Tuesday, November 1, 2016, 8:00 PM, Duggars at the Altar (Episode 11)

Take a look back at the Duggar daughter marriages! In two super-sized weddings, Jill and Jenna (it was Jessa but TLC seemed to forget) walked down the aisle just months apart, Jill with Derick and Jenna with Ben. Relive each ceremony and first kiss!

60 minutes

The desperation reeks on this one.  TLC is so uncaring that they said Jenna instead of Jessa.

Ratings:  782K viewers and a .18 rating.

I believe they said we are going to see Jinger walk down the aisle in three weeks time, so I'm guessing next week will be all Jill's wedding, and the following week all about Jessa's.

Ridiculous! How many recaps can they do? I haven't watched since the whole Josh story broke, but really how can anyone sit thru this crap week after week??

*LOL* The Jenna thing! I saw it on my cable box's on-screen guide and couldn't help but laugh! I noticed this morning that they'd fixed it, though.

And desperation? You bet! Looks like week after next is a clip show, too. All about Jinger. Good God! Even if I could somehow stomach that family like some of the sheeple out there do, I don't think I'd bother watching the next two episodes!

3 recaps in a row?!? Really TLC!? At this point a don't even care about jinger, she is getting really old and really annoying. There is nothing intellectual or amusing about her. It seems she is always surprised or star struck, I'm not watching the next three weeks of this, I'm really over it already.. can we start a petition to ask tlc to just follow Jana around and give her like a morning Cooking Fresh with Jana segment then watch her get creative and design houses. I cannot watch the others anymore, the are as boring and uneducational as a sack of nails..

We'll probably be able to FFWD through this whole episode since it will be all old footage.

Another freakin' look back episodes. I've been saying all along that TLC is trying to cut production cuts way low. If that's not a proof, I don't know what it is.

Jeanette said...

Are the years middle and younger Duggar kids not doing interesting things? I would like to see them, too.

Hi

If they are doing "look back episodes" the end must be near. TLC is not spending any money

Re:Sarahi Conde's comments. Never mind the next 3 boring week or starting something with Jana where they will make her look like a ridiculous house maid of some sort. Let's just get them off the air before Jim Bob starts passing out questioners to viewers.

I wish Jinger Duggar would discover another adjective besides "super". This woman has such a limited vocabulary, just like her siblings...bible "speak", platitudes and "super" is going to be quite boring to Jeremy and his family.

I don't feel that Jana is ready to do a cooking show. I watched two youtubes, I don't know if Jana was there or not I can't tell the J girls apart. One they made "pickles" and added too much salt, the other they made alfredo sauce and didn't let the butter foam before they poured in a whole quart of cream!
I would think it would be a workable idea to have Jana join a real cook like Ree Drummond. That might be a good match because she is more of a home cook than a professional chef. King Arthur Flour store has fabulous baking lessons, it would be nice to see Jana & other Duggars boys and girls to go to New England and take a class.
I think it would be a good change to see one of the Duggars honestly learning something instead of exaggerating what they think they know or can do. Refreshing.

Counting On is supposed to feature the adult (over 18) siblings not the underage ones. This is why we don't see them featured in these boring episodes. I'm sure it has something to do with the "distancing" from 19Kids..

Cat said...

So im guessing Michelle and her wedding and 19 blessings will be part of this circus show....

Ginny said...

Re:too, bad,so sad. It was Jill that was making the pickles along with the little kids. She even made the remark that they would need to sit in the refrigerator for a full day or overnight. However the kids started to take the pickles out of the refrigerator within an hour or so & Jill didn't say a word. Of course, we don't know when TLC does these tapings, so I suppose it could have been a week later.

Willow said...

IMO, these Duggar girls are also just plain jealous of each other. Jill and Jessa probably couldn't stand Jinger getting all the attention, so glad to have their weddings re-run at this time. Michelle had the same problem with her girls. We had to re-live her wedding during the Jill and Jessa wedding shows. Remember Jessa re-releasing her wedding pictures on the internet the same weekend that Amy got married? Poor Anna - She could have had her wedding re-played also but couldn't because Josh.

Derick is no doubt being paid by the home church. That's normal with church plants.

Heart in Florida said...

I'm confused about the Dillards, their missionary salaries and home church? What is Derick's home church and where is it located? I thought they were loosely affiliated with SOS Ministries? How does this organization relate to their home church? I also thought that the Dillards were rejected by the local church as missionaries representing them in CA and were just given a blessing for this "mission trip". If anyone can explain it to me, I thank you...

Ginny- I think I didn't express that post well enough. I wanted to make the point that cooking is not just pouring ingredients together, but it is being able to demonstrate technique and then explain the reasons behind the instructions. The Duggar youtubes show they have not learned any techniques as demonstrated by the use of knives, the proper addition of ingredients, etc.

I personally think the Duggars, although not their fault just an outcome of being on tv and having great praise over everything they do, have developed the Dunning Kruger effect. Duggar kids don't ever seem to be able to have the experience of being with a large group of very talented students. They can't compare themselves to others and get a sense of reality of what excellence is. Even Ben and Derick's writings would be improved if they had to compete with gifted writing students and receive reviews, edits by other writers.

In real life I would never criticize anyone for their lack of excellence, but if you start to put out youtubes teaching others how to do things, then bring your A game and check to see if your way is right! It isn't their lack luster performance, it is their promoting the idea that to spend energy and time in learning is not needed. In 2016 we all need to keep learning.

Re: Michelle jealous, you are right, didnt she have her wedding dress at Josh and Anna's wedding? Plus getting pregnant at the same time and trying to get all the attention

Arelena said...

We were told Derrick and Jill were not accepted as missionaries so why would a church pay them ?

Beyond Belief said...

Michelle's dress was displayed at Jill's wedding. Derrick's father's was a policeman who had passed away, so his uniform was on display at Jill & Derrick's wedding, to either honor him or as a remembrance. Guess when Michelle heard his uniform was going to be displayed she thought, well heck, I've been mother of the year, so I should be honored in some way too.The strange part is, Michelle wore Jim Bob's mom's wedding dress when she married Jim Bob. So it may have been the dress she wore at her wedding but she didn't even own it. I wonder how they will eliminate Josh from all these repeats? It was at Jessa's wedding that he grabbed Anna out of the processional kissing her & dipping her almost to the floor. He was jealous of the fact that Anna was in the wedding party & he wasn't.

Jeannie said...

Was Josh's Hollywood kiss at the wedding during the time the devil made him do the stripper??

Totally is not an appropriate answer when asked for you hand in marriage.

My 'favorite moments' from tonights exhilarating episode of 'Dragging On', Erin Bates Paine's banging on the old ivory keys..like she was trying to beat that piano into fundie submission. .and who could forget Meechelles silver 'TinMan meets a Christmas tree' dress she wore to JillyMuffins nuptials...with that added panel of gray lace at the chest for proper modesty included. Eegads...

Re:Gens comment
I hope it really hit Derrick right then that he is spending the rest of his life with a 12 year old when she said totally.

Ella said...

Totally is an answer a middle school girl would give......so it's appropriate for Jinger.

Judy said...

I don't know how TLC can put together 100% completely already viewed material and call it a new episode. There should be a law against that.

gen said...

For anyone who has doubt that TLC is trying their hardest to salvage a sinking ship: Those d... episodes made up of mostly old crap that we've seen before. They cost nothing so whatever little advertising money they can get goes a long way. Plus they present the previous week's episode without commercials... TLC is rerun central but I personally don't remember another rerun that was presented without commercials like this. If I were an advertiser I would use the Duggars trouble to drive the price down. There are less big-name advertisers so my bet it that they had to lower the price and smaller companies have been able to afford having ads during counting on.

Also, the fact that we have not heard one thing about Jinger's wedding, even their darling People Magazine has not said anything about it. Keeping everything secret insures that anybody who wants to know anything about Jinger's wedding will have to tune in. That episode is going to pull in amazing ratings that's for sure.

Counting on is a real heard scratcher. It goes against the most basic television rules. I've said it before and I'll say it again: there is something fishy. Networks don't usually put this much time and energy into saving a show, no matter how popular it used to be. Especially considering the large "cast". Counting on' cast is smaller, but still. I don't think the Duggars will ever pull the viewership they once had. There is not such thing as loyalty in TV so it's not a reason for a network to do what they've been doing.. Someone as an As in their sleeve that's keeping this show on. I don't know who does or what it is, but one of these days it's gonna come out. Nothing about any of this makes a lick of sense.

Willow said...

If I am not mistaken, I am pretty sure the timing lines up that Josh was in his "dating around" (ha) days at the time of Jessa's wedding. Wasn't Jessa's wedding the one where Anna had to take the kids on the plane from D.C. by herself (3 of them). She said Josh had some spur-of-the-minute business meetings. Later, they showed Jim Bob waiting around for Josh to get there (at the church) as Josh was supposed to be the M.C. Josh came strolling in just in the nick of time wearing his shades and Jim Bob seemed so relieved. I didn't watch the re-run this week, but does anyone else remember this? I remember it didn't dawn on me at the time, but later, I remember thinking he could have been "busy". Its just so unseemly when one is looking back with what we know now.

Heart in Florida said...

Willow: Good memory. I too remember that episode and YES, Anna had to take all the kids on the plane herself and Josh made it to the wedding in the nick of time. Good thinking on your part...I believe he had an appointment "he couldn't resist".

Willow said...

I'm sorry but Josh is just despicable. I used to think that the job in D.C. had sure gone to his head, but then I would remember that it came out he was up to some of these "things" before he even left Arkansas in the first place! I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it turns out he is the one who wants the divorce.

Little Bits said...

Re: Heart in Florida's comment. Willow is right on target with her comments about Josh having a business meeting that delayed him in getting to Jessa's wedding as well as him wearing his "shades" in church no less.

After watching the rerun episode, can anyone tell me why Jill and Derrick ran out of the service after they were introduced as husband and wife? It looked so childish.

Jut Me said...

I don't think they showed anything with Josh in the recap episodes.

AveragePerson said...

Re: And another's comment. Nobody can tell you why Jill & Derrick ran out of the service because the Duggars are always doing something that they average person cannot understand. I believe they thought it made them look even more special than they are. Why else would someone get all dressed up in a wedding dress & veil & then go barefoot to the service itself? My guess they wanted even more publicity than they usually get.

Elspeth said...

Probably Pinterest. Jill's wedding seemed to be mostly from Pinterest pins. It's full of bad ideas.

Re: why Jill and Derrick ran out of the wedding. It's all about being "cute" and/or different and getting attention. These people are not Southern Baptists though - I've been one all my life and you would NEVER run, roughhouse, wear shades or neck in front of the congregation. It is not cute or funny, it is completely irreverent and disrespectful. As children we are taught that church is God's house and that we should whisper in the sanctuary. I guess the Duggars' conduct comes from the book of Gothard.
On another note, I am PRAYING for there to be some feisty merriment at Jinger's reception! I've learned that Italians love family, food and having fun. Maybe Jeremy's folks will show 'em how it's done!

Ratings: 782K viewers and a .18 rating. Season low - Hurray!! I can't see tomorrow's episode doing very well in light of the presidential election, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I definitely see the November 15th episode of Ginger's wedding bringing in the numbers, but after that? . . . I guess a story arch about the honeymooning and GInger settling into life in TX, Jessa's labor and delivery in February 2nd . . . And so it continues.

Jennie said...

This will continue with Joy being given to a man next season and on the story goes. Who is after Joy?? Has the family forgotten they have grown men in the family who are not working, not "a courtin", not going to school......doing nothing, like Ben. At least the kidult Duggar boys, including Ben, could start a business of their own to earn their keep and a future. THe older brother is the only man among them who shows any ambition and even he is not permitted to live in his own home, is still living in a dorm setting with young brothers. IF they do not marry, when can they move out of the dormitory?

Why people find this show exciting I will never know. Just ordinary people doing every day things like getting married and having babies. Big deal.

That event was never held. It was cancelled due to protests. The site refused to host the event.

Yea, the site is owned by the Salvation Army. They wanted no part of it when they heard the purpose of the event.

Re:Jennie's comment. You hit the nail on the head & it was exactly what I thought would happen. Joy is the next Duggar bride. Have they no shame & what happened to their devotion to the Lord? Seems they are really just devoted to their bank.

Jennie said...

I didn't think it would happen so fast for young Joy. Shocking she is already"a courtin". Joy does look happy but all the courtin girls look happy in the beginning as they are finally experiencing some attention, being special among the crowd of Duggars. Maybe Joy and Austin will be happy together. He's not a stranger suddenly showing up to marry her, like her sisters had, but a boy she has known.

Windy said...

I'm not so sure that Joy & Austin have known each other for the length of time the Duggars are saying they have. When we saw Jim Bob take the girls to the Rock Camp it was only father's & daughter's & we didn't see Austin anywhere
