Austin's answer about why he wanted to court joy was very sad. He does not value her for HER. His very short list only concerned things that involved her lifelong indentured servitude.
The scene between him and JB was WEIRD! both of them together just creeped me out.
What common ground do they have besides God? Is that the only thing they talk about? Cleaning, laundry, chores?
What the heck is wrong with her parents? Why can't they let her live?
Agree so much with another commenter on another topic that the children will never know who they were really meant to be. Out of all the reality of the situation, that is it.
Poor. Poor joy.
Didn't watch honeymoon ep, but did see pics.
Great to see and hear they seem happy and natural.
Not great to see them acting overly PDA, they can't control themselves?
Honestly, we, and no one else wants to see that.
Wish Jana would run away. But she would be like a little lap dog. Wouldn't know how to survive in the wild.
Methinks Jim Bob will be MUCH more careful about possible suitors for her now that Jeremy has seemingly begun transformation on some things jinger.
The deader inside about anything other than religion sounds right up alley.
13 babies born to this family since 1 special aired is my count. If I am off, sorry.

So it looks like Princess Jessa filmed her recent birth. Life is precious, indeed. If she truly had cared about the safety of her baby she would have delivered in a hospital. It's all about Jessa, though. She is so in love with herself.

More stories surfacing now about a ? Imminent break up between josh & Anna. Is this for publicity or why don't they just get it over with already?!?! Poor joy - entering into another, probably more strict, life of servitude. Sickened!!

In regards to Jinger and PDA, she doesnt know any better, having parents that act the way they do, im hoping once Jeremy parents saw it, maybe they can talk to them and tell her, nobody else will..

Would laugh my butt off in glee if this was true but who knows. Sadly I kinda hope people judged and laughed at Anna to show her how dumb she is.

Jim Bob can't risk letting on adult child escape his grip......All it would take is one child to open their mouth to the truth and Jim Bob's entire cover will be blown.

Did anyone see the articles about Jinger and Jerbabe allegedly discussing their sex life? Basically they talk about planning, or rather Jinger looks to Jeremy and it will be decided by their higher power . And then a separate article says they are planning to wait awhile to have kids! How do you leave it up to God and wait awhilet unless you're abstaining? As usual they are talking in circles.

We all know Anna is living in her own private hell, being tortured by the thoughts of Josh having sex with the stripper. If he ever touches her, that has to race through her mind as it would to any other woman, leaving her low self esteem even lower. No longer can she gaze at Josh with adoration. No wonder we have not seen them out and about. I wouldnt' be surprised to hear she is in a depressed condition right now. What is Josh doing now to support his family of 4 children? Working? Hanging around a secluded house Jimbob provides? Whenever Josh leaves the home, Anna must be in fear of what he is up to. Whenever he is on his phone or computer, she must have the same fear. Let's all hope someday she wakes up, gets a divorce & writes a tell all book to make some money on her own.

Hello said...

I don't believe Anna will divorce Josh. The women are trained that their husbands are their authority figures and they are to obey them at all times. IMO, Anna has been made to believe that Josh cheating on her was her fault. The men have been trained to believe no matter what they do wrong, the women are to blame. The Duggar girls were responsible to make sure their brothers didn't look at any immodestly dressed women by yelling Nike when they saw one. Did Jboob and Mullet think their sons would go crazy if they saw a woman's shoulders or knees? Mullet was so concerned about making sure the camera crew blacked out her knees while she was wakeboarding, but has no problem with Jboob dry humping her on a mini golf course in front of their courting daughter, and having Jboob ask if that turns her on.

betsy said...

Doubt Michelle's knees would drive any man into a sexual frenzie!! These Duggars are so perverted.

Judy said...

I don't think Anna will leave Josh but I don't think they are having sex either, because she would be pregnant now if they were. I think they probably just ave sort of a deadness in their marriage and neither can figure out how to get out of it.

Bird said...

Watching the Bates, sad Kelly takes them to her school and talking about the great times and great teachers, sadly, none will be allowed to have the same experience.

Dont get it said...

Dana Alton, I believe Josh is working at selling used cars like he used to. I dont believe either that Anna will divorce him anytime soon. She has no education or training and 4 young children to raise. She will put her children first and try to believe that Josh will change. But the trust is broken. We dont know how many women he slept with. Im sure it wasn't just one, he was on more than one dating website. Anna has said she wants her marriage restored. The sad thing is she never had a real marriage. It was all a lie. Josh was indulging in porn and who knows what else long before he married her. He had a sexual addiction that i'm sure he thought would be cured with marriage to a pure and loving woman. Poor Anna would have had some red flags if she hadn't been part of this weird courting style of dating and been allowed to date like a normal person does. Now she is trapped.

Real World said...

Don't get it said... You bring up an excellent point. If Anna and Josh were able to date in a more modern day way, Anna may have been able to get to know Josh much better. And she would have had the opportunity to see how he spends his free time and learn more about his personal life. You cannot convince me that Josh just started his porn indulgence that one time he got caught.

The Duggar courting is more based on tween romance novel -- pretend love, flowers, candy and chaperones. I cannot imagine having to get to really know someone AFTER getting married. What recourse do the Duggar girls have if they learn something about their husbands that is a deal breaker AFTER marriage?

Sabrina W said...

Michelle & Jimbob scammed innocent Anna into marriage with Josh, hoping a wife would cure his sexual perversions. The pre marriage Lego sex talk with Jimbob, the innocent first kiss, the song Josh sang to her at the wedding, all a ploy to portray Josh as an innocent fine young man. The truth was never to be known about what he did to the sisters, their friend. Those girls kept their mouths shut about it instead of warning Anna. Anna must realize this now and feel betrayed by all of the Duggar family. She's done everything they wanted of her, having 4 children so quickly, even having TLC film her at the toilet birth. This poor girl has been used and abused by the Duggars in the worst way, a way that has taken her life from her and stuck her with the huge responsibility raising 4 children. I feel sorry for her and hope she can escape Josh soon.

Mindi said...

Absolutely all the stories about Josh & Anna divorcing are false. That's never going to happen, unless Jim Bob gets to the bottom of the barrel publicity wise & has nothing else to put out there. He cares nothing about his children's happiness, what kind of lives they are living. In the back of all publicity, is good ole Jim Bob & his wallet, or should I say bank book at this stage of the game. Any father that would say he is "milking everything about his family for all it's worth," is worth nothing himself. Right now he has publicity about Josh & Anna divorcing, as well as Joy & unknown boy, Austin marrying. All these stories (front page) about Josh & Anna divorcing are false. Jim Bob knows that any publicity about a divorce in the family or another wedding is gold for him.
I too wanted to mention about how they all must remain modest (that's a laugh) & then you have Jim Bob dry humping his wife in front of his engaged daughter & her fiancée & asking her if it turns her on. What in the h#ll is wrong with Michelle? She is acting like a young teen herself, instead of a mother of nineteen children. Apparently neither parent knows that children learn what they live. This behavior will continue to repeat itself with the next generation. Jim Bob & Michelle are a disgrace as parents. She never does the normal things that a regular mom would do. Strange that women who work at highly successful careers, or some that stand on their feet for hours at a supermarket or Walmart store, can take still manage to care for their home & children & can accomplish as much in one day as Michelle accomplishes in one year or more. Jim Bob has no worth as a human being. He is abusive to his children in ways a normal father would never think of. These arranged marriages, letting his sons sit around all day accomplishing nothing. He is vulgar, crude & just plain indecent but he thinks he's raising modest, Godly children. I think both parents are mentally unstable.

I disagree about Anna being trapped. She could divorce. He would be ordeted to pay child support. I have no doubt she could , perhaps with her family's help, do better than her current situation. Get out Anna!

Michelle said...

Yes Trish, Anna could easily get out. She would have no financial worries because she could take Josh to court and get child support. A good lawyer would be able to get her enough money to support herself and the children.

Don't forget her brother offered to help her as well. She is not trapped.

Daddysgirl said...

Just saw the photo for Josh's 29th birthday on people, why do they always have their back to mykenzie, this annoys me so much! Guess they're training her that in their world women are worthless.

Anna would have to work said...

Many people have completely erroneous ideas about child support. It's a percentage of the other spouse's income. She could easily end up with her children only half the time and no child support. Josh has family in the area to help him care for the children and could ask for and get 50% physical custody time. That would reduce his child support immensely and the court would likely tell Anna she had two years or less to get a job. Spousal support and child support are not an easy free ride these days.

So, they've done it. The Duggar Facebookpage posted a photo of Josh and his family for his birthday. In the photo, Josh and all of sons are wearing shorts! Now, I've been defrauded by Jodsh's knees. Need I repent?

Joy's now engaged. Poor girl - another duggar female sold to the highest bidder. At least she hasn't adopted the doe eyed worshipping look her sisters have all had. I just wish they had an opportunity to get to know their future spouses before it's too late.

Sawdust said...

So when did they actually get engaged? It was announced today, but they showed previews of Austin wanting to ask Jim-Bob in previews for next season on "Counting On" which would imply earlier since the episode aired last week. If they follow the usual get married in 3 months schedule then the wedding would be around June or before. 4 months for courtship, 3 months to marriage. Is that the fastest track to marriage of all the girls so far?

Opie said...

At least Joy can now get out of all those chores at the Tinker Toy Flop house. The rule is when you in a courtship or engaged, you act too goofy and are not expected to do anything.
Sorry useless Duggar guys, you will have to fix your own meals and pick out your own clothes and do the laundry and clean your own toilets....it's not like you have anything else to do.

Just Me said...

Re: Wendy Heusel's comment. I remember the episode with all the Duggars men running in the dungarees. They said they could run just as fast as any one else. If I recall it was for the filming for the movie they were in. Because they were filming for a movie they had to keep running over & over again in the heat. I remember one of the boys said they must have run miles, although it was really only a very short distance because they had to keep doing it over & over again.

dinda said...

So weird that birthday photo of Josh. His 2 boys are wearing dress shirts and ties but shorts and so is Josh wearing shorts. Thought this wasn't permitted to show legs. Anna was wearing a rather short denim skirt...not down to her angels. Josh looks as creepy as ever but Anna looks very pretty in the pic.

TotallyANanny said...

Poor Joy. She's going to be married and pregnant before she knows it. Since they seem to want to have a wedding for each tv season, will Jana or one of the boys be married off next? They can't keep going down the girls since Johanna is only 11.

Arlene Carter said...

I fear this will only be a short break from chores for Joy. She will put on the I'm so goofy in love act. But just after the wedding and honeymoon, at the campground she will know what real work is as Austin and his family eagerly await the girl with good work ethics. Austin said he admired how she works to Jimbob. Poor child, Joy is being used in many ways...TLC ratings, slave labor and soon birthin' babies. Let's all pray this girl does not have to give birth in the campground.

Hello said...

It seems like Jboob is trying to marry off as many of the girls as he can so TLC will pay for the weddings. Joy will get married in June and announcing thay she is expecting in July. I can't see any of the boys getting married anytime soon. They have nothing to offer a prospective wife. Who would want to marry one of them? They all seem to sit around the house all day doing nothing while the girls do everything for them. The only time they do any work is when they clean out houses that Jboob buys.
The only one I feel bad for is Jana. She will be stuck at home raising her siblings until all the younger girls are married off by Jboob. If she doesn't start courting until she is in her forties will Jboob and Mullet make her have a chaperone and monitor all co versations with her future husband?

Chela said...

Why are they wearing shorts? Thought that was a no-no!

Bebe said...

Let's get this clear Josh was paying for sex with MORE than one women.

And besides being a massive pervert and sex addict he most likely wasn't getting what he wanted from Anna, being "joyfully available" doesn't mean excited for good lol.
Josh wanted something else he settled for Anna and forced himself to be happy while living a second life. YUCK

I'm excited about the lawsuit coming up. Don't forget the DJ who's picture Josh stole for his dating profiles is suing him, for lost work and fallout. It will be interesting to see, hopefully this one follows through and it helps bring down this weird family.

Just asking said...

Opie, what makes you think that the boys will be doing all their own chores instead of Jana just taking on all the extra work with possibly Hannie helping fold wash & put it away?

Wondering said...

Just because Joy will be allowed out of chores during her engagement, just think about all the work involved in running a campground. Someone has to clean up after the campers. I don't think Austin comes from a large family & maybe his parents are tiring of all the work. The solution is to bring in a young daughter-n-law to share the workload. You know Austin's lifelong friend.

JakefromStateFarm said...

Does anyone else get a creepy feeling from Austin? I don't sense any chemistry between these two. Austin now gets to be a part of the Duggar "dynasty"; People magazine money, TLC money PLUS his family can hop on the train by using Joy Duggar to garner publicity for that retreat camp business they have. Of all the engagements that I have seen (I missed Josh/Anna courtship/engagement/wedding) Austin and Joy don't seem to be IN LOVE with each other.

Aunt Bea said...

Joy was engaged back during Christmas. She's marrying in April by all signs. This family, who continues to deceive and plays with timelines, is indicating that this just happened now, in early March. Just not true.
Why would the Duggar sons start picking up the slack for their sisters now? That's what Jana is for. I bet she does all of those things with the oldest of the younger 4 as her helper now. No need to bother the penises. I'm sickened to a degree that Jana will sleep in an elementary school dormitory in a few weeks. I hope she's already moved downstairs to the 'grandma Duggar' bedroom off the kitchen. It would be more convenient for her to get breakfast cooked. That grown woman needs some privacy. It's the same for the Duggar "son/men" to share a bedroom-dorm with J'Tyler and the younger boys...just not healthy...but since when is the Duggar family 'healthy'?
I, too, remember that running in dungarees episode. It was quite a while ago. We now see some Duggar sons and Anna's boys routinely in shorts. Why no explanation from Jim Bob as to why that is ok now? They don't address even the easiest most obvious things to their "fans" and followers, do they? We are left confused as to what their dress belief system is. I think they are one of the most disorganized families I know of, yet they claim to have a minute by minute schedule for their daily activities hanging on their kitchen wall....??

Captain Crunch said...

From the few times Ive seen him on camera, he strikes me as a very serious young guy. Joy doesn't seem too happy or truly in love with him, but the show must go on.

Wednesday said...

Joyanna is 19 years old. 19!!! That is way to young to be married to someone you only marginally know. The Duggars are so horrible. I know plenty of people who marry their high school sweethearts, but this is not the case for Joyanna. 19 year olds who are sheltered and have no dating history at all have no business being married. I wouldn't even be so disgusted in this had Austin and Joy actually have been dating for the last 2 or 3 years. This family is out of control and gross.

Duggarsbegone said...

Dollars to donuts the wedding is the last weekend in April as that weekend is showing as being booked for a private family event at Austin's family's camp.

Andrea said...

I can't even watch Jim Bob and Michelle's congratulatory message to Joy and Austin. Again, Jim Bob and Michelle make it all about themselves! Michelle: "Congratulations Joy and Austin, we're so excited for you." Jim Bob: "Michelle, it feels like just yesterday we got engaged. I remember . . . " I stopped the video there. Jim Bob and Michelle (or any one of their PR / image consulting professionals): Joy's engagement is not about YOU. It's about her. These parents and their children need some serious psychological help. Never mind, a 19 year old getting engaged. Madness. She should be in college learning to live her life.

Happy to report, I haven't watched or recorded any of the recent episodes. I did not have cable for several years so kept up with the Duggars here and on other fan sites. Now that I have TLC again, I'm entirely uninterested in following them and their stupidity.

Annie said...

Re: All the comments about Anna being trapped vs. not being trapped and getting away from Josh. Yes, she has been offered help from her brother and theoretically COULD get away from Joshua or she could put her big girl panties on and do it like lots of others before her and just LEAVE. It would be hard and she would struggle to take care of those littles but she could do it. The problem is something called "learned helplessness". It's where a person is in a situation that is negative and is told/prevented from getting help or leaving for a period long enough (in Anna's case probably her whole life because of the Patriarchal leadership of the family being absolute) that even when the person has a clear escape route or nothing, absolutely nothing preventing them from leaving or taking care of themselves-they won't. Not because the help isn't there, it's because they don't think that it's possible. It's a "why bother? I will just get smacked back down again anyway." So, the person will stay because of perceived safety.

If she tried to leave, she would get smacked down by lots of people around her that wouldn't like to see any change in a WOMAN. Women shouldn't be doing things like being independent and protecting their kids from perverts or bursting the bubble of the perfectly godly family.

Paris Mueller said...

Once again, a Duggar girl chooses to marry someone with either just a job or a dream, not a career. When are we going to see the Duggars sitting there waiting for a spouse to come home from work like the Bates women do? One of the Bates's sons-in-law cleans restaurants in his free time (after work). Another refinishes furniture in his free time (after work). Mr. Jilly-Dill was close... but then he quit working to become a freeloader (I mean, missionary). Now, this new Dugger spouse has a "dozer business" or something of that sort. How about a career? Is a career un-Godly? Jesus was a carpenter, wasn't he?

Ainsley said...

Yikes poor Joy. I was reading some of the articles about the engagement, and of course the same old "Duggar speak" is everywhere. Joy is so happy to be marrying her "best friend." She can't wait to get married and "see what the Lord has in store for her future." They really don't learn any new phrases. Of course since Austin comes from the same background, I'm sure this doesn't seem odd. How in the world can you be best friends with someone you have never had a private conversation with, and have only been "courting" for a few months?? Of course if someone asked me what I liked most about any of my close friends, I sure as heck wouldn't say their ability to organize people or delegate responsibilities. Maybe if I was recommending a co-worker for a job! IT's so sad. These girls have no idea what friendship is. They parrot these overused phrases because they are taught that "Godly" women marry their best friends, and live happily ever after with as many children as possible. Not marrying your bestie suggests you have somehow messed with God's plan. Of course 2 seconds after she gushes like a 10 year old about marrying her "best friend" she talks about planning the wedding, and how she can't wait to get to know him better during the process. Ummmm ........are you marrying your "best friend", or are you still getting to know him? When I was engaged and planning my wedding, I never in a million years would have said that I was so happy to be getting to know my future husband. Those are the things you do BEFORE you get engaged. These poor poor girls.

The next Duggar girl to be married is only about 11 years old so now Jimbob will have to search the world for pure girls to be given to his clueless sons in order to keep TLC in a story line. Jana is all but forgotten when it comes to "a courtin". Did she refuse possible husbands or is Jimbob keeping her home to manage the household? How weird it would be to see one of those hapless boys court as they seem so afraid...NIKE....probably scream NIKE on their wedding night and hang their heads in shame, all confused and scared, not understanding how to do the Lego bit.

Yep, the boys are next. About time if you ask me. They all got to sit around on JB's couch and watch their sisters be bought for TV ratings, all the while enjoying their sweet freedom. The only thing the guys have had to do is sit on their duffs and answer lame questions about the courting sister( Ex:what kind of cheese would Jinger be? WTH?!!)
Jana is the only daughter left, but we all know she is JB and Michelle's lifetime servant. They wouldn't give her up that easily! Maybe in 7 years, when Johanna is 18 going on 19, there will be another girl wedding. Then, maybe they will either grant then -35-year-old Jana to court and Johanna take over her role. But if they deem Jana is irreplaceable, Johanna will be a courting. I do think they believe Jana is irreplaceable. Time for the guys to man up and keep the show going (*Eye roll*)!

Kimmy said...

I doubt there is any girl who will be given to a Duggar boy. Obviously, no families, even Gothard devotees are offering up their daughters. Sorry Jimbob, you have not been a good father to these boys, not encouraging independence, education and work to support themselves. Where would they live and support their families? There is just so much cleaning & helping out at the rental houses. It is not normal for any of those boys go from a child's dormitory to a marriage bed in one day without ever kissing a girl. It is different for the Duggar girls, being led by the husbands who are more worldly (not BoyBen but Jess is the leader there!!). I am seeing a bunch of giggling, bald middle aged men still hanging out in the Duggar compound in 15 years, carefully guarding their virginity.

When I first read the US Weekly article and discovered that Joy was already engaged I felt sick. None of her sisters announcements of courtship or engagement made me feel that way. It's not her age, well maybe it's partly her age, but I'm absolutely convinced that she is being coerced into this relationship and rushed into marriage. She does not seem happy or in love. He does not seem to value her or love her. No one should be pushed into marriage just because it will make the family money and get a large audience and a free wedding. The rest of Joy's future truly depends on who she marries.

Dusty said...

How very sad that Joy must marry so soon to a boy she has never been alone with, be an available girl on the honeymoon and have no control over the fact she will be birthing a baby by winter 2018. There should be a law against this brainwashing and control of children. May God be with Joy.

Re:Dusty's comment about Joy. You are absolutely correct, about Joy. However the other girls that married, were pretty much in the same position. They may have been chronology older, but they were absolutely just as emotionally immature as Joy is.

I think the reason Joy's engagement is jarring to many is because the viewers were introduced to Joy as a fun-loving, free-spirited girl. Her older sisters were in early adolescence and were firmly put in their places. With Joy, we really got to see the Duggar parenting practices where females are concerned. Joy went from being an innocent child transformed into a "little mommy" of her younger siblings, to future wife-in-waiting.

Tiger said...

I remember when they were going to put on something like that "dinner theatre". Little Joy was trying to work with the younger kids but couldn't get them to mind. She was going to go get Jill, I believe.

Jim Bob is an absolute idiot. Of all the foolish things we have seen him do & there have been way too many to even mention, nothing has been as stupid as the talk with Austin. Yes I know it was scripted but even so, those who would sit & watch while a young man is asked not only; "how would you support my daughter," but even worse; "what do you like about her?" If a young man wants to court a young woman with the expected outcome of engagement & marriage, because that's the only outcome there would ever be for the girls in the Duggar family. Although, apparently the boys (Josiah) get a pass on that. What father asks "what do you like about my daughter." Of course the answer loosely translated was really, "she will work like a workhorse at my families campground." I was one of the very first to refer to the girls as being auctioned off but even so, I didn't realize it would go as far down the line as to Joy this soon. I don't think even Jim Bob realized that the courting, engagements & marriages, would not just be pure gold in his pocket but they would accomplish something that not even the best PR team could accomplish. A fantastic secondary job of getting Josh & his scandal off social media & the front pages of various magazines & newspapers, i.e.Enquirer, In Touch, etc. Jim Bob is not alone in this, TLC is just as compliant. They have merely changed the places where the girls will be slaves. The location is the only change for the young women who have married. All this for a few pieces of gold in Jim Bob Duggars pockets, as well as in the coffers of TLC. What happened to this Godly, Christian family that was there to show us all how to live an upright life? They aren't gone, they haven't disappeared, they just were never there in the first place.

no this was not jarring to me because we know that this was going to happen. easier to give a girl away then a boy? and joys wedding date just like jingers will not be told until maybe a week or two before. and the boys courting will not happen for a while because no one in their right mind will want their daughter to marry into this family. I still wonder were all these men came from out of the blue. Ben i could easy seeing coming out of the blue since he is not a working kind of guy and would easy fall under jim bod care. Derrick keeps leaving because he does not want to be controled by his father in law. Jermery I think we will not see to much he likes not being seen and so does jinger. this austin will be controlled by Jim bod.

I just watched the Bates episode where the two little boys, in the words of Alyssa, "lit the house on fire." The one observation that stands out to me is that the Bates kids seem a lot more connected to their parents in a very genuine way. For example, when the little girls had evacuated the house and were sitting outside, one of them said, "I want mommy." I've never observed a single Duggar kid go to their parents for comfort. And when Gil was talking to the little boys about fire, one of the boys genuinely hugged Gil (and it was a front hug).

OAN, Alyssa cracks me up. She seems so over the large family chaos. The way she said, "my bothers lit the house on fire," sounded like she was used to the chaos but so glad to be away from it.

When Joy and Austin marry, which father will be the ruling patriarch? That will be very interesting to see.

Aimee said...

I think Joy's rushed courtship/engagement just goes to show how awful things are at the Duggar Compound. She has watched the older ones and she knows the only way she will get out of the house will be to marry. It seems, since they are long time friends with Austin's family, that he is one of the only other teenagers that she knows. I am sure she thought, "He seems nice enough. He's okay looking. Let's do this!"

I also think that the hurry to get married by each of the kids has been because it's the only time they are allowed to be the center of attention. For years they have been just one in the line up but for a few months leading up to their weddings they actually get to leave the house, eat out, go a few places. I am sure each girl loved getting a NEW dress for once. Jinger kept saying "Well, I want the long dresses because none of my sisters had them" or "I want long sleeves on my dress because my sisters didn't have them" Proof they aren't just a # but actual people. Their weddings are their only chance to be singled out.

I am hoping that Austin is just awkward for the cameras and that he has more personality with Joy. I also hope that his outdoor style life will be right for her and allow her to return to her tomboy ways. Maybe...I hope!

Real World said...

Aimee, I agree that it would be great to see Joy happy if that means returning to her "tomboy ways." The only problem I see with this outdoor life is that Joy will be required to do it all in a skirt, baby on hip and wearing some shoes that are in no way meant for the outdoor life. Why do the Duggar girls hike, camp, etc in flip flops or some other shoe that is in no way meant for these activities? Are gym shoes against the rules?

Interesting that the film crew just happened to be there filming when the Bates house caught fire.

Amazing how it always works out that they have a storyline of a wedding or a baby.

Sounds like someone is doing some planning.

Guess they needed some new filming drama so the conveniently house was set on fire to perk up a Bate's show. Also, guess the camera crew was hanging around, waiting to be called to film Jessa's baby birth. Can you imagine a crew of men showing up when you are in labor to film you pushing out the baby from your most private area yet your life style is so prim & proper, you have to do side hugs with family members and not show your knees in public? No, I can't!!

Re: comments about which father will be the ruling patriarch? I can't believe anyone thinks that Jim Bob will step out of the spotlight as the controlling patriarch. So far, he has been able to remain the controlling person in his married daughter's lives. You notice I said person & not dad. There's no reason to think that anyone in Austin's family, even if we hear that Austin's dad is a controlling patriarch himself, can take on Jim Bob as the; "King of the Castle." Also I will never believe that Austin & Joy have been "best friends" for all the yrs. the are claiming. I see Joy as a wife, mother & campground cleaner. As a daughter-in-law, in a family like that one, she will take over many of Austin's mother's jobs, just as she has had to take over her own mother's jobs at the Duggar compound. There will be no going off into the sunset to enjoy married life in their own little home, with Austin working outside the family business. I know many sons stay on in a family business but their wives are not expected to do manual work for the family, business, while pregnant & raising a brood of children. She's trading one fire for another. As far as the Duggar girls hiking, camping, etc. in flip flops. I remember well, one of the Christmas episodes when the Duggas were doing a Christmas missionary trip with the man from SOS missionaries & he chastised the girls for wearing flip flops, in an area where there were snakes & various bugs as well as rocks & other dangers. Both Jill & Jessa said on camera: "US Duggar girls can do anything in flip flops." It was a huge insult to the man in charge & Jim Bob just stood there as usual, allowing the girls to speak to one of their elders in that manner. In other words "we are the Duggars we can do anything & no harm will come to us."
As far as the film crew just happening to be at the Bates home when it caught on fire, it's sort of like the way they are always at the Duggars filming when something like Josie's seizure happens.

I doubt that Joy will get the opportunity to be a tomboy again after marriage because it's not easy to swing from a tire or play football when you're pregnant.
I also think Joy wasn't too excited after "graduation" from Duggar Academy to be home and help mama with the younger kids like she said. What would be so different for her upon graduating? Helping mama with the kids and helping around the house has been her life since she could carry someone's underwear to the laundry pile.

Hello said...

Joy will now get out of helping Jana raise her siblings and do housework since she has courting/engagement brain. She will be too busy thinking about her future authority figure 24/7 just as her sistes did. She will take lessons from Mullet on how to gaze adoringly at her future authority figure while he speaks as if he is the smartest man in the world.
The Duggar boys still won't be expected to do anything except lay around the house and have their sisters wait on them. They will grill Austin to make sure he is good enough for Joy even though he is the one Jboob picked for her. Jboob is going to have a hard time picking out wives for any of the boys unless he finds one that is willing to joyfully submit to them and be willing to have as many babies as possible.

Carrie said...

I fear life will be the most difficult for Joy, compared to her married sisters. She could suddenly discover the harsh reality of being told to clean 20 toilets a day at the campground, scrub the showers, vacuum the cottages, make the beds, do the massive amounts of laundry that must pile up daily, like towels and bed linens, then have father-in-law inspect to make certain it's done to his standards. On top of all that, she must smile adoringly at Austin as she presents herself joyfully available whenever. It wouldn't surprise me if her visits to the campground were designed to be fun and exciting to lure her into the family. All this and being pregnant and nursing would take it's toll on anyone. She might be the one to crack under the pressure.

Perhaps this camp asked for guests to bring their own linens because the Forsyth family was short one maid. That would fit in right with Joy marrying in. I think they'll provide linens after the wedding and she can launder and replace them for the guests.

It's good Jinger has a man who can take control of the baby making situation and knows about using birth control. It's important for them to bond, to get to know each other since they never spoke privately before the wedding. They have many years ahead of them to start a family. Why are the Duggars always in a mad rush to get pregnant right after the wedding, with a man they do not even know who is suddenly a husband? It's like their first high school crush....and woooooops.....married with baby within a year.

Just crazy said...

Laura's is absolutely correct about Austin's answers to Jim Bob's questions about Joy being indeed very sad. After all, he certainly knew from the past experience of the other men who wanted to court Duggar girls, that Jim Bob would be putting him through those questions. Seems to me if he really cared for Joy he could have come up with better answers.

Yam Erez said...

Jennifer, where did you hear that Jeremy believes in using birth control?

Paris, one of the tenets of fundie Christianity is to do semi-skilled labor and own one's own business. I think the idea is to be one's own boss, not to be dependent upon anyone financially, and to pick a service that will always been in demand in the foreseeable future, i.e., Ben Seewald had a car windshield repair business, JimBob's in real estate, so Austin contracting out bulldozers and doing excavation work and restoring houses are two perfect examples of that; you'll likely never be unemployed.

I caught a recent episode of "Bringing up Bates" Alyssa/John surprised the family with the news that they were expecting their second baby. Everyone seems totally shocked since Alyssa had told one of the sisters she was "waiting util Allie was older." This was the first time I had heard either family mention waiting for anything when it came to children. Hopefully more will follow suit as 19 children (or even 9) isn't right for everyone.

Heart in Florida said...

When did Jeremy say that he believes in birth control? I'd love to read/ hear that. I hope he does and lives a real life with Jinger. Tough luck on the Duggars as they would have to tolerate that. I also hope Jeremy urges Jinger to dress the way SHE wants in front of her parents, not like the married Bates women have to do.

Sharon said...

If Jeremy doesn't believe birth control is allowed, I'll be shocked. I haven't met a conservative Christian yet who thinks a glass of wine is allowed who doesn't also think that birth control is acceptable. There may be some groups out there who have those beliefs, but Jeremy's home church is not quiverful nor are his parents.

Meme said...

Sharon, won't it be interesting to see the effect Jeremy has on Jinger? Now that they're married I feel sure that he is going to show her that many of the beliefs she's been raised to accept as truth...aren't. He will show her that certain Duggar beliefs are not biblical. That alone should place a light bulb above her head. Which may actually lead to QUESTIONS!!! Jinger may be freed after all.

Chela said...

Well, I think there is hope for Jinger because she wore sleeveless dresses and leggings on her honeymoon. Now, we see her wearing shorts & shoes--not flip flops! I also hope Babe begins to deprogram her. They look genuinely happy--I really hope they are!

What will Jimbob's reaction be to Jinger wearing shorts? They are the ugliest shorts I've ever seen but they are shorts. Style will come to her. She is just becoming deprogrammed.

dinda said...

Jimbob probably puts the kids in flip flops because they are cheapest footwear known to man.
The kiddies even showed up in NYC wearing flip flops hopping on and off subways plus hiked and climbed walls in those dangerous things. I'd say flip flops are not modest wear with those naked toes in full view but cheap wins out over modest when it comes to Jimbob's tight wallet.
Glad Jeremy is buying Jinger shoes and new clothing.

Re:Bates sons-in-law hobbies
Just because the Bates sons-in law have a side hobby or a kid called for "doesn't make them better. In fact, I see them as more deceitful than the Duggars. Consider Chad Paine's fur BIL accused of rape in college. He seems to be self-sufficient but there's still the fact he was accused of a crime. Plus he is let around the Bates and DUggar kids and grandkids They already let the kids be around GOthard.
And I cant see Gil or Kelly tolerating them doing rap like Ben even gospel style. Note it was the boys who were allegedly started the fire. There still seems to be gender expectation.

Anyhow not defending them but couldn't the Bateses have taped the fire incident themselves like the Duggars may have taped Josie's seizure? I don't think camera crews are around for everything.

Ben is 20? 21? What is he doing scolding everyone about the latest movie that he doesn't like? Get a job, Ben! Geez

Grandma Wagner said...

I seems Ben considers himself a great authority on religion and how others should live. Where did he acquire this egotistical attitude? He does nothing but sit around with a hat on his head in the house his father in law owns. If he could pass the subject matter, he should proceed to get his degree in teaching. Perhaps that sort of job is not allowed if a chaperone must be present at all times, even if he is married. Also, he'd have to dress properly and get up early in the morning and Jessa would be on her own for 8 hours. Would she need a chaperone in her own home if she is alone, to make certain she's not inviting men over or whatever the family fears if one is alone? I'm confused about the "go by twos" rule after marriage. I recall married Jeremy needed a child to accompany him to the airport to greet his friends.

Ruby said...

grandma wagner, their extra biblical rules are confusing and unnecessary. Look at Josh, he had all the safeguards in place, yet because he wanted to cheat on is wife and family he found a way. This cult-like, ruled-based religious system they have created cannot last even another generation.

With regards to Josh, it steams me that he framed his proclivities as an addiction. By doing so he elicits sympathy for checking himself into "treatment", instead of just admitting he's a scumb_g. By his definition of addiction, a Muslim who drinks a beer, say, in contravention to his religion, should publicly confess and check himself into alcohol treatment. Uh, no. Just no. Calling his pastimes an addiction is a ploy to avoid accountability for his actions, pure and simple.

Yam Erez said...

Grandma Wagner, what is the "go by twos" rule? Never heard this one. Even marrieds must never go anywhere alone? As a safeguard against adultery? Wow.

Mindi said...

Re: The two by two rule. At least when it comes to the girls there has always been a rule in the Duggar home, that no girl goes anywhere by herself. When Jill was studying to be a midwife, Jana had to go along to study how to become a doula although she always said she had no interest whatsoever in becoming a doula. If Jill was called to attend a birth Jana also had to go along. Michelle has always said they sent them out in "two" because that was the way Jesus sent his Disciples out. So that's the answer we have always been given. Straight from Michelle.

Grandma Wagner said...

Right Yam Erez. They bible says something about going out by two's so Michelle & Jimbob took it to mean whenever a kid/dult leaves the house, they go in twos to check up on each other. This is supposing both don't have the same wild idea such as the sin of talking to someone of the opposite sex. It is true that 28 year old married, preacher man Jeremy had to have one of those Duggar boys accompany him to the airport to pick up his friends. We aren't really sure now how it works with the married ones. Josh sure didn't go out in twos when he met up with the stripper. Maybe the rules have been tightened after Josh's scandal.

Mindi said...

I meant to add in my post that I wasn't sure about the boys in the Duggar family needing to go out in "two's." I never saw that come up when they were going anywhere. It always seemed they were going to help Jim Bob with property or something like that. It's not as if they were going somewhere like a school to study or to the movies, someplace to enjoy themselves. I missed the part about one of the boys chaperoning Jeremy to the airport to pick up his friends. I would think he would have been so embarrassed but maybe he just passed it off, as if he decided to bring one of the boys along with him. As I said, I missed that episode..thank God.If anyone tried that with my son he would have decked them, by anyone I mean Jim Bob as he would have been the one making sure there was an appropriate chaperone. Of course that would have ended his chances of having Jinger for a wife, which would be fine with me, nothing against Jinger, I just wouldn't want to be involved with the Duggar family in anyway.

The Duggars have managed to "twist the Scripture to their own destruction". They use the Bible to support their ideas of how to live and control their children instead of letting God's Word guide them. As they continue down this road they will deviate further from the Bible down a path of rules and legalism.

Auggie said...

Re the Duggar kids going out in two's. I've heard Michele refer to it as an accountability partner.

Kimmy said...

It's a sad day when a parent does not trust their own children to follow their moral teachings when the parents are not in sight. Do Michelle & Jimbob not feel they have done a good job of teaching so they must do the accountability partner thing even for the adult children? Do they ever consider that the two children would plan to do something together out of the control of the parents? Maybe that is why they stick a little kid with an older one. There is a day when a parent must say, I have done my very best and now I need to trust my children will lead good and moral lives, but as they see fit, not me.

Auggie, you are correct, Michelle does often refer to two going out together as, "accountability partners." However when questioned by people when they have had those segments where ordinary people can ask the Duggars anything they want & get a truthful answer (enter sarcasm here)she always goes back to, "that's the way Christ did it with his Apostles." Of course, that's the same time they are telling us how they don't have a huge carbon footprint because they buy used & save the difference. There is never an answer to the questions about all the paper & foam plates as well as the plastic utensils used in that house. They have never had a question asked during this "ask the Duggars segment," regarding all the disposable diapers they have used over the yrs. I can't even imagine the diapers they have gone through, as there have been times when they have had at least 3 kids in diapers. Of course, Anna was bragging about using cloth diapers when she was driving the huge hummer. "I may be driving a hummer but I save by using cloth diapers," is the way she put it.I'll bet she doesn't use cloth now that she has 4 kids. I realize Kenzie is older now & probably does her own laundry & perhaps her siblings. All this, is just to reiterate that Michelle & Jim Bob use whatever language they think the public will swallow. They try to make it more palatable, so one minute it's "accountability partners" the next they are following in "Christ's footsteps," (huge egos there) by saying they treating their children "as Christ treated his Apostles." Actually they are scared stiff that one of their unmarried girls, will have a conversation with someone they don't know when they are in a store shopping. I've done that myself. I've asked a complete stranger, a man in fact, if he could hand me the divider that you put between your grocery order & the one behind you. Fortunately nobody in my family ever found out about that. Everybody remember Jim Bob rushing into the water on one of their trips, when some men were striking up a conversation with a couple of the girls? Actually they were only asking where they were from. Of course, they may have been wearing their "modern modest swimwear" but they also had a huge camera crew filming them, & I think that's what caused the men to be interested enough to ask a couple of questions. They were in a foreign country & I think it was quite unusual for people to see a camera crew filming these girls in the water & they were just curious. Of course, Jim Bob bolted into the water & announced to the men who were only asking a couple of questions, "I'm their father." Guess what Jim Bob? Nobody cares!

Well, the Duggar must have hired a new public relations team because they released the Josh and Anna baby news late on a Friday afternoon and that's the textbook time you announce something when you don't really want people to notice.

They said the baby boy is coming later in the year making it sound like fall. First, they already know it's a boy so she at the very least about 16 weeks. The only reason to announce is because she's probably having trouble hiding it because she's probably due in the spring, May or June. I personally thought she was hiding her belly under a blanket at Christmas time in some photos I saw. She also wasn't to be seen during the Jinger wedding episodes either.

We all knew she would stay with him, but to the people who don't really follow them like we do, they will finally realize that she is NOT leaving him.

Well People.com tells me that Meredith is just 19 months old. That puts Baby #5 just as close together with the other kids. So despite the scandal, therapy, time away, etc they are still popping out babies about every two years. UGH!!!

The thought of this poor 5th child being added to an already overwhelmed mother of four is heartbreaking. I wish Anna could have said "no" to him. I honestly think that they married way too young and she doesn't know any life other than living under her father's rules and then Josh's. The Duggars won by having her move in with them. They kept her away from her family, from the media, and from having any real contact with anyone who could have helped her. They hid her away until Josh was out and then she went right back into her life with him.

Remember when Michelle had the entire family in person and on the Today Show to "surprise" the blessings and announce she was pregnant?
Things have really changed since then.

At least we are spared Jimbobs stupid, corny, non-funny, non-clever, wanna-make-a-sexual-innuendo comment "we don't know how it happened" comment that was ALWAYS said and Michelle ALWAYS laughed, and Josh laughed and thought it was the height of comedy, while Jinger made a face - whew- at least we don't have to see that part of the announcement anymore.

And i have to be careful how critical I am to this announcement because people will say "a new baby is a blessing" "how can you say a baby is a mistake " etc so I'm limiting my comments to how the announcement was made. No Today Show appearance, no cutesy photos, no magazine announcements, no hearing Anna talk about how many weeks she is, or if she has morning sickness, or how it compares to her other pregnancies, or how it compares to Michelle's pregnancies, or is it twins. I suppose we can enjoy that Josh is missing out on all that attention he craved and money that was handed to them for nothing. I do also blame producers for those silly pregnancy questions. The production can't think of anything new to talk about either.

I know that when JB and M got the boy Tyler they thought the news was going to be knocking down the door and they were going to re-invent themselves. If they can't re invent Josh really doesn't have a chance.

I guess I was holding on to Anna's words: "I know if I went off of what I was feeling, I would turn a mess into a disaster." She spoke those words in one of the first episodes of counting on and at the time I thought, she's just planning her exit. WRONG. She's in and she's in for life. Poor girl. She's clearly either very dumb or deeply abused. Either way, it's not good.

It was reported a while ago that Josh and Anna's net worth was around $500,000. I think they can afford a few trips to Aldi for their growing family especially since they're living in a free house, driving daddy's cars and have no medical bills as they use unqualified people to treat them.

Anna is right on schedule announcing #5. She seems to go 14-18 months in between babies. If Meredith is 19 months and she is at least 3 months pregnant, since they know the gender, it puts the spacing 16 months. Meredith with be near two when this baby is born.

I don't think anyone is shocked by this, but disappointed.I kind of feel for this child since he will always be the after affair or scandal"band-aid'baby.

The Bateses seem to have time in between pregnancy around the same, possibly a hair shorter 12-15 months maybe. Brooklyn Elise Paine is 7 months, Carson is nearly two. Allie Jane Webster was born April 2015, and Lexie Mae at the end of January. Bradley Bates was born October 2014, and Kacie sometime in June 2016. It seems Alyssa has the shortest time in between. I don't look for a baby announcement from any of them this year but who knows?

Whew that took some thinking but interesting when you compare it to families a century or more ago. Some had less than 6 with no birth control. Then they had many kids for far different reasons mainly for lack of birth control and the hope some made it past a toddler.

We are always wondering about the Duggar finances and I had s theory last fall during Counting On.

1. I think Jimbob is the Manager of Michelle and the kids, the whole gang. Just like Kris Jenner and the Kardashians always say she makes 10% of everything they make. We can assume Jimbob gets 10% of everything but I wouldn't put it past him if he negotiated a better deal than 10% but we will go with that if that's what the Kardashians are doing it's probably the standard management fee. So he's a "Momager"? What's a dad/manager called?
Any tv proceeds, magazine photos or interviews etc I assume Jimbob gets s piece and I think that is always how he has done it except with the underage kids and unmarried daughters I think he kept their money and MAYBE just maybe gave the son in laws s dowry of sorts for the money they earned over the years but who knows.
2. He got the deal for the Counting On show. He is getting $ when Derick and Ben film and go on ridiculous bridal dress shopping trips. Which is why they go and why Jimbob quietly approves of them not having really jobs.

2 if he's getting 10% of Jes, Ben, Derick,Jill, Jinger and Jeremy, Joy, Anna, Jana, that's nine people 10% for the tv show and maybe small fees for the other adult boys but basically Jess's is really fronting this entire tv show.
3. My conclusion is Jesss currently and since she was pregnant with Spud, has had the burden of the TV show on HER shoulders. So Jess's is supporting the ENTIRE Duggar clan including Jimbobs family because he's getting fees for brokering those "deals"

4. I say Jesss because she is the backbone of the Counting On show. Jill is not always around, she has had two babies on TV. Jinger wedding helps but they are now out of town also. joys wedding will help but them she's out of town. jesss is definitely the anchor of the show. So she's supporting her family of 4, Jill's 4, Anna's 7, Jinger 2, Joy 2, JB and Michelle and the rest including Tyler will be 17 from their home technically for s total of 36 (including two inutero). I guess that's why I give Jesss sa break because I honestly think she's the one who is the backbone of their finances the past 18 months.

Jimbob and Josh aren't selling that many cars odor managing that much real estate. He's another Kris Jenner. She pimped out her daughters sexuality for money and Jimbob is doing the same thing. People hate that camparison but it parallels in so many ways

Jennifer said...

I think it's much worse than a 10% management fee. Almost all of their current "public" type income is from TLC. They have an entertainment company that contracts with TLC. It is headed by Jim Bob and Michelle. Unless TLC goes against Jim Bob and contracts with someone individually (who then may be cut out of the family funds), everything goes through him and his entertainment company.

These people have always been monsters at making money. People really need to get this. Because the Duggars come across as "crazy zealot hillbillies," the public assumes that the Duggars are stupid. NO. The Duggars are uneducated...there's a big difference. Jim Bob was groomed to do what he has always done, which is to not only make money but to make the absolute MOST out of any and every deal he's ever negotiated. Why do you think that sweet lil ol' Grandma Mary was the one to declare herself Amy's manager at one time? Because there was $$$ involved, and she was not about to let anyone else handle something so important, that's why. (Plus, if Amy got any kind of deal, Granny would get a cut). The parents' (and grandmother's) goal has always been to keep their $$$ and let someone else pay for them. Which is why I have such harsh feelings towards this detestable couple! "Buy used and save the difference" translates "don't pay anyone's fair price...stick it to 'em!"

It goes something like this. The family needs goods or services so JIm Bob, the king dealer, handles the transaction. If the other party does not offer or agree to what JB thinks is ideal, he will do a quick assessment of what he's determined to be the person's weakness (he is GREAT at reading people). Maybe the person's business will be featured in an episode, for example, if JB senses that the person wants recognition/attention. It is his way of bartering instead of paying. What Jim Bob MOST enjoys, however, is beating someone at their own game. The family restaurant, for example, where kids eat free. He would absolutely smirk when he took that entire herd through the door to eat free fried chicken dinners. He not only didn't feel badly about the place losing money, he RELISHED the whole idea! Just as he (they) thought it was perfectly fine to take every Duggar adult, child or pet to collect free doughnuts. Yeh, another knee slapper.

Let's put this in language that the Duggars will understand. Jim Bob, Michelle and Grandma: If you make it to heaven, congratulations. But you can expect to live in secondhand housing. No mansions for you.

Why does Princess Jill get the HUGE house to come and go to from as she pleases and Jessa/Ben/Babies get the small house.

Meme you are correct. My 10% theory is a guess simply because no legit reporter has ever asked them how they work out the money. In ten years they never explain the TV money.

Meme, do you remember the time they were traveling, Josh was probably married but it was several years ago, they stopped at a restaurant chain like McDonalds and Jimbob actually had the guts to ask the cashiers for a special deal.
These people working their were working on their feet at minimum wage and this guy with TV cameras and a bunch of kids wants a discount? It was such a slap in the face. I wish I knew what restaurant it was. It was some place big enough that no one there had to power to give Jimbob a "deal" so he had to pay for everyone like normal.
I remember when he bought tires and explained his bargaining strategy and it started with finding out who actually made the decisions or had the power to lower prices. Big chains can't do that. He would have to work with local or regional stores for something like that.

What makes me sick about it is, like you said, any money he "saves" is the equivalent of taking money from an employee at that same business. Why can't he just pay s fair price?

I just thought about that. Any deal he makes involving his kids, I wonder how badly he rips them off? I think he has pocketed all of their money and they will never ask him for it and they won't ever legally fight him for it either.

Why is Jinger living in an apartment when she has worked on tv for ten years?

Why is Jessa in s rental house when she has worked for ten years and is currently anchoring a TV show and giving birth on TV?
Why is Jill . . . . . Who cares?

I remember when Josh was offered the D.C. Job I was impressed. I really thought that Jimbob was actually jealous because I think Jimbob always wanted a high profile D.C. Job. But,
Since the cult doesn't believe in a man having a boss/employer, I guarantee they blame the real world outside their cult for the Ashley Madison downfall of Josh.

Sandi, excellent post. I agree with you everything you said. In this day & age there's a Social Worker on every corner, if your own family will not help you out. There are many in much worse situations than Anna & they pull themselves up by the bootstraps & get on with their lives & 4 children. They don't go on with a 5th child & more & more, until they are snowed under. Certainly there are many troubled marriages, where a husband has an affair & the wife forgives him. However to let a husband who has not only been with a stripper, but will continues to seek out more strippers & prostitutes, as well as being addicted to pornography, near you & your 4 beautiful children is beyond the Ten Commandments, that the Godly Duggar family say they live by. Get yourself away from that pig of a husband & Jim Bob & Michelle. Also your own blood family won't help you out in anyway, except perhaps for your brother who offered help, which you turned down. You are in it for the money & fame as much as all the other Duggars. A good decent woman, Christian or not, would have been out of there long ago, instead of enjoying all the perks that come with being Duggar. Those poor little girls of yours, I can't imagine what they will think of their parent & grandparents when they get older.

I don't have an ounce of sympathy for Anna. She stayed when she could have gone. She's as bad as the rest of them. She's a true Duggar & has been since she married Josh. I don't care about those vows she took in that church at her wedding. Didn't he take the same vows? Even writing & singing that stupid song about how faithful he was going to be. That's why I can't for the life of me figure out why so many feel so bad for Anna. They both vowed to be true & faithful to each other. He broke that vow. I understand why people would feel sorry for a young woman with little kids whose husband broke their wedding vows so soon after their marriage. It's one thing to feel sorry for her because of what he did to her & their children but it's another thing to feel sorry for her because she stayed & now continues to bring more blessing into the Duggar family. I remember we'll that it was said that it was a covenant that she would need to keep. If she had to keep the covenant why didn't he??

I am really disappointed in Anna. She had an opportunity to leave, with the help and support of her brother, yet she decided to stay. Choosing to stay was poor decision #1; but choosing to bring another child into this mess is just ridiculous. I have come to the conclusion after watching the video, " The Cult Nextdoor", that this family truly operates like a cult. They have so misinterpreted the Bible and Christianity. The Duggar grown adult children have no clue as to how twisted this life is they are living. Jinger is the only one with a chance of getting out. So glad Jeremy and his parents didn't drink the koolaid!

I am really sad for Anna, but not surprised. I would venture she is much further along than 12-16 weeks. It doesn't seem like they get much prenatal care, and they don't go to actual doctors or midwives for real sonography but rather they go to those "commercial" places that do them for "fun," and I think those places require you to be a certain amount of weeks if you're going to determine for gender. I would guess closer to 18-20 weeks if they are announcing just as they found out. Who knows? They might have known for a long time already. Now we'll slowly watch Anna and Josh come back on the show and I wouldn't be surprised if we get a birth out of it.

CindyLouWho said...

Why oh why did Anna let him touch her? Hopefully she was a willing participant in a loving situation and not forced to tolerate his 'needs and desires' for bedroom roughness. I wonder how her family feels about this since her brother offered to help her leave.

Will Jim Bob let them and the 5 children move into the 'guest house' or will it sit empty waiting for Jill to come back to have baby #2? Surely it is big enough for Josh and Anna's family to live there and to host Jill's family. Anna can coach Jill's toilet delivery!

I have zero pity for Anna. Most grown up people recognize their weaknesses and work on themselves. Many women have come from worse and actually become strong and intelligent members of society. This is a woman who chose to have a water birth and then started screaming and praying that her baby was going to die in the water. Why didn't she educate herself on a water birth? This is a woman who toured the country condemning other people's lifestyles for money and lobbying for bills to repress others who don't believe in her dogma. This is a woman who is as smug as her husband. This is a woman who paints herself orange and (hopefully) pretends to be dumb for the cameras as she "tries to navigate DC traffic alone." This is a woman who thinks the earth is only 3,000 years old and doesn't bother to take science class to learn about science - all the while teaching her multiple children that science is evil. I don't condemn her choice to stay with Josh. That is her choice. I don't pity those who won't help themselves, just as I won't pity an alcoholic who is tearing their family apart. Do you want people looking at your life and feeling pity for you? Probably not. Anna doesn't want your pity either.

RE Stephanie's comment about stealing from businesses.
That always bothered me too. There is a meme somewhere about how buying from a small business is helping pay for a little girls ballet class, and a little boys baseball team, and is not going into the pocket of a rich CEO. Jim Bob is the opposite of that, he's stealing from the little guy just so he can get richer off their backs.

Aunt Bea said...

If I remember correctly, Anna sat with a blanket around her middle during their Thanksgiving group photo on a couch. She could have been expecting and showing a bit back then. I don't think it'll be long before this baby is born. They simply had no choice but to announce it now.
My take on religion or simply the belief in the existence of a higher creator authority/power is this: I remember Jesus' teachings from the bible and my Sunday school and church services...the Almighty simply is a loving creator who is interested in our lives. This power wants us to live on this planet to grow in understanding about what our creator is. It is a journey for us. This belief doesn't come with a book or 'wisdom booklet' filled with restricting and stifling rules and regulations about wearing flip flops, long hair or skirts. There is so much growing and learning that these people restrict themselves from it's a real shame. The Duggar parents don't want their children to grow in any way; only taller and older. This type of lifestyle filled with restrictions and one that inhibits grown and knowledge is not any type of religion IMO. It's simply a cult that chokes the very life out of someone. The complete opposite of what they claim.

Meme you are absolutely right about the way Jim Bob wheels & deals. Do you remember how he explained getting the lowest price on a hotel room? He gave several examples of how to get the rooms cheaper. Then he explained how if they really wouldn't give you a room at a lower price, you should always use the "walk out threat". That's where you threaten the owner or manager, that you will walk out if you are not given a discount. Jim Bob is positive that the hotel would rather give you the room at a much lower rate than not rent it out at all. Again the maids & all other employees are working for minimum wage & he's making a game out of it. He's truly a disgrace & I would never walk into a hotel or restaurant with a husband who actually enjoys ripping off hard working people & people who own a business & need to pay their employees & feed their own families. I remember he even tried to get a discount or an upgrade on the motel room the kids got for them or their anniversary. Although he didn't get an upgrade he did get them to give him a hot tub. So they did give in.

I agree that Anna is gonna do what Anna wants to do. Wednesday, you made some great points about her pretend helplessness. That girl knows exactly what she is doing. She's not ready to give up on her dream of becoming Little Michelle Duggar. Okay, fine. But what about her vulnerable, voiceless little girls? Because of her they are forced to live with Josh the Perv. I remember when the scandal broke and people were discussing it on Dr. Drew's show. A photo of Josh holding his daughter flashed across the screen and Dr. Drew began to squirm in his chair because "it made him so nervous and uncomfortable." How interesting that it never made anyone ELSE nervous. Anna, Jim Bob and Michelle were all good with it. And they still are.

Dont get it said...

I am not surprised that Anna chose to stay with Josh. However, I am shocked that she would choose to have another child, especially so soon. Josh did not get out of rehab until last March. It seems so foolish to add a 5th child to a marriage that clearly will take years to recover, if ever. If he is truly trying to fight his addictions, having a newborn along with 4 other very young children to support is not going to help. God expects us to use common sense. What is wrong with this woman?

Meme said...

Always: Yes, I remember. Just a bunch of wheeler dealers, the whole lovely lot of them. Like you, I would NEVER go anywhere with that man. Many men are so warm and generous with those who work for minimum wage, it's a wonderful thing to see. What a shame that Michelle will never experience that.

I used to think Anna cared about her other children, she seemed loving to them but now I do not think she cares about them and only cares about the "next baby". What I don't get is her name is already mud being married to the "failed" Duggar why does she have to keep impressing the ATI crowd by popping out a baby every other year? She could have used the rythym method or gone on the pill while he was gone at his fake camp. I think she is more married to the Duggars then to "him" and she could take or leave the lump on the couch who doesn't do much beyond impregnating her. Love, betrayal and trust never entered the equation, if she loved the guy at all, she would have left.

Auggie said...

I don't believe for a minute that Anna made a choice about anything in her life. I don't believe any of the Duggar girls have an original thought. They do what they're told, they think what they're told to think. In the patriarchal Gothard teachings that the Duggars follow, girls are taught that they're always at fault. If a husband is unfaithful or even abusive, that's the women's fault and the solution is to be more available to her husband. They are deeply brainwashed & I'm sure another reason why they don't go anywhere alone. There's no chance to engage in a real conversation with someone outside the cult without the 'accountability partner' interfering. They're taught to step outside the 'protection' of their father or husband will bring all sorts of evil into their lives. Even if by some miraculous chance Anna were to have some doubt to the teachings she would know if she left Josh she would never be able to associate with either her own family or the Duggar family or anyone else in Gothard land. And I'm sure JB would tell her he would take the kids from her and she would never see them again. Not knowing any better she would, of course believe him. As for her brother who 'escaped', she would have been taught he's going straight to hell.

The link is an interview with Kristina who explains just how deep the brain washing affect is.

I just watched the interview with Kristiana Miner reference above by Auggie. It was very insightful for someone who is not very familiar with the cult of Gothard. She is very articulate and clearly explains the systematic brainwashing that is indoctrinated into the children - clearly physical, emotional and psychological abuses.

It made me incredibly sad for the Duggar children, but specifically for Jana. In the interview, Kristiana explains how the cult is especially difficult for the eldest daughter in the family, because she is given a mountain of responsibilities at a very young age. As a result, education is totally neglected due to home responsibilities.

It also always stuck a cord that Jana does not seem to have a buddy in any of the older girls. Jessa and Jinger are besties and Jill and Joy were like mom and daughter. Jana seems especially isolated with no one to lean on in harder times. And none of the older girls seems to have any empathy for Jana or is trying to seriously befriend her. I can only hope that one day, one of the boys helps Jana.

He and Michelle have no confidence in their religious teachings if after 20 years of brainwashing & teaching, a young adult cannot be trusted to do behave in a reasonably moral way. What is a reasonably moral way....who says kissing and front hugs are wrong anyway.
