So much of this reminds me of Leah's Remini's series on Scientology.

Makes me wonder how well Jinger will do "out in the world." Some of those interviewed were in/had been in therapy.

All cults are about controlling people so there have to be similarities from one cult to another.

The thing I notice most about the Duggars is how completely and totally inarticulate and unintelligent they appear. Where did the Filmmaker find Gothard grads who can actually speak? Wish more main stream media would report on the Duggars / ATI and we may finally put the show to rest and allow the children some semblance of normality. Remember many of the Duggar children are still minors and do deserve a chance at a normal life.

It seemed like all of them had been out for a few years, gone to collage and even therapy. They probably had to unlearn gothardese

Thanks for posting, Sharla. Really interesting and helpful to understand why the adults 'bought into' Gothard's teachings and also helpful to understand how deep is the brain washing, & fear of living any other type of life. Do Anna & Jana have the choice to choose a different life? They'd lose the protection of their father or husband and be open to all kinds of evil if they did. Poor souls.

I wish they had went more in depth, but its a start I suppose. Gothard is old. Do you think the cult will topple when he dies?

Gothard has been removed from the organization and it still continues. Although they've been losing money and members for a few years now. How long they can continue, who knows?

One thing cults have in common is a charismatic leader. Bill Gothard is an old man but just imagine him 20 years ago when he was probably attractive and more energetic. Also, cults don't just attract unintelligent people. Look at Scientologists. Bet you can name a few famous members. Those of us who remember the cults of the 60s and 70s can tell you that highly intelligent people were very much involved in them. Charles Manson still get bags and bags of mail every week.
Bill Gothard was born in Illinois yet he's carried his ideas all over the U.S. Lots of people are still listening, though Gothard was dethroned sometime ago. Scary, isn't it?

Perhaps this is why the Duggars seem to be pushing ALERT on their family page. I'm tired of seeing this and advertisement for that family camp Joy's marrying in to. I hope these adults who were gullible to buy in to this ridiculous belief system will "see the light" and realize what they have done to their children and GET OUT. Nothing wrong with living a more main stream life and have faith in God.

Watching this video has actually made me understand Josh more. He was apparently abused or taught this behavior at the institute. I think he'll be the one to break away. He needs to move far from his family get real help, and live his life in peace.
