Monday, July 3, 2017, 9:00 PM, A Boy or Girl for Jill

The Seewalds are adjusting to being a family of four.  In Laredo, Jinger and Jeremy learn Spanish and test their skills at a local restaurant.  Meanwhile, Joy enjoys dinner with Austin's family.  Then, the Dillards reveal the gender of baby number two!

60 minutes

Once again how enlightened that they know the infant's gender so far in advance of when the infant will know it.

Ratings:  1.380 M viewers and a .34 rating.

I actually feel sorry for their new baby as it has blanket training, tight swaddling and must ride in an inadequate car seat.

Another snooze fest. TLC and the Duggar clan need to look up "time is of the essence ". We've already seen media posts and magazine articles that states or announces that it's a boy and his is named Samuel. Geez. It's like watching someone else's home videos that you've already heard about six times already. Boring.

What do we want to see? Michelle explain her homeschooling program. And why does miracle baby, Josie look neglected and dirty. I cringed at last weeks episode where she was sitting at the kitchen counter by the muffins prepared for the baby shower and she looked filthy. I'd love to see an episode totally on Jana and John David. Everyone is intrigued by them.

I would love to hear Michelle explain how the older children were disciplined and TRAINED..and why the younger children are so wild and unkempt? Also, exactly what does a typical day for her include? When was the last time SHE prepared the family's Thanksgiving dinner mostly by herself? Why is Jana so busy with things that should be HER responsibility to do around the house? When did God tell her that it was 'ok' to switch from pantaloons and prairie dresses to this 'now modern modest' attire? Did the Lord change His requirements of her? Why HER PERSONAL conviction to NOT wear pants, shorts or capris turned in to a rule for her daughters to never wear them? Why it's ok for her to not follow Arkansas state law requiring PARENTS to homeschool their children and have a teacher they call a 'tutor' do it instead? Why her daughters never seem to wear proper shoes? Why she circumvented the REAL REASON her daughters 'decided themselves' to have one bedroom for all of them...because they felt safer 'in numbers' so their brother wouldn't sneak in their rooms at night and touch them...she neglected to include that one. Oh, so many, many, more to list.

Re: Heart in Florida - Yes. exactly a great start for all the questions the Duggars should be answering to make amends with the public that they lie to. If they ever decided to answer those questions honestly, they wouldn't bug me.

Heart in Florida: I would also like to cast a vote for "A day in the life of Michelle Duggar." Are you listening, TLC? We have seen someone sit down with the sister wives, 90 day fiancé cast, the Breaking Amish group and others to ask the deeper questions, usually in a two-hour special of some sort. Why not the Duggars? And Megyn Kelly does NOT count! That entire "interview" was completely scripted and slanted. (The Jill-n-Jessa follow up was rehearsed as well). This is not about Christian bashing, either. As a Southern Baptist, fellow Christian from Arkansas, no less, I would never be in favor of that. I WOULD, however, be in favor of Jim Bob and Michelle having to answer questions from this handy dandy list I have composed:
For Michelle -
1. Your daughter, Jana, seems to carry the load at home, especially with cooking and childcare. Other then "supervising" her, just what exactly do you do all day?
2. When was the last time you bathed any of your young children?
3. How many eggs does it take to feed your family at breakfast? How many loaves of bread for sandwiches at lunch?
4. Can you tell us a specific, funny anecdote about either Jennifer or Jordan?
5. Why do you allow your husband to make inappropriate, sexually suggestive remarks or gestures in front of your children and grandchildren?
I was going to do a Jim Bob list but I think I've used enough space for one day.

Andrea said...

I predict well under a million viewers. There is nothing interesting about this content.

Meme, well done!! As a fellow Southern Baptist transplant, now in MN, I cringe when tv audiences think these people are an accurate representation of Christianity. TLC has become the Duggars' own personal charity. Why? Is it because they cannot make it in this world on skill alone? And when did procreating as quickly as possible until your eggs dry up become interesting anyway? Women have done that for thousands of years, but now, we don't. Why don't we, Michelle? Because the rest of us see the devastation upon the Earth caused by overpopulation, and now we know babies don't come from the Holy Spirit but from one sperm and one egg, and 1 or 2 people's personal sexual desires. And finally, Michelle, because bringing children into the world is an enormous responsibility that should never be taken lightly, even if you think it's ok to make them raise each other! And ... TLC, find something actually interesting for crying out loud!

Meme - I don't know if she would know the meaning of the word anecdote to be able to answer that question.

Pregnancy, birth, baby...snooze. this show is for people with a pregnancy fetish.

I have a question...

How do you plan on supporting your children?

Mickey2942 said...

I so totally wish I could "unsee" that mini golf dry hump event. That was beyond disrespectful. My SO would never act like that towards me.

Hello said...

The Duggars sell info to People magazine about courtships, engagements, weddings, pregnancies, and births, but then they still make sure to film these events to make more money.
I hope the Duggars girls authority figures have a backup plan to get jobs and make money so they have some way to support their families when the filming eventually stops. Jillymuffin and Derick will no doubt expect their fans to continue sending them money as a source of income. I hope one of the younger Duggars writes a tell all book one day exposing all their secrets and lies and makes millions.

Meme said...

Here is what I want Jim Bob to be asked during a hard-hitting interview:
1. Even though your television show days are numbered, you still have enough money set aside to support the rest of your children. Your grandchildren, however, will not have access to those dwindling funds. Since you never put any of your children through college, how do you propose that your sons & daughters feed and clothe all the children they are having?
2. On that note, why do you oppose higher learning? Does it have something to do with your own learning disability?
3. Why did you protect your son as you consistently failed to protect your helpless daughters? Why was the burden put upon the girls to protect themselves from their predator?
4. Why are boys so highly valued in this cult? Why are girls so devalued, blamed and enslaved?
5. Why are you claiming to be mainstream, Southern Baptist Christians? Do you even realize that you are in a horrendous CULT?
6. Why do you insist upon sexually abusing your children and grandchildren by making vulgar statements and gestures in their presence? Why do you make impossible "rules" for them - no dating, private talking, hand holding or kissing...as
you tease (abuse) them by kissing and simulate having sex in front of them?

Heart in Florida said...

Meme: I have your answers from Jim Bob...It would go like this.
1. God will provide.
2. Colleges and universities bring forth 'other beliefs' and would challenge my children to think about what "I and Michelle" have taught them to think.
3. Sons are more valuable than daughters.
4. Because God said that boys and men 'lead' the family and females ONLY follow their lead.
5. We are INDEPENDENT BAPTISTS..which mean we can make up our own rules and do what we (the men) want.
6. Because God and Mr. Gothard said that's what we should do. We want to be morally superior to you heathens out there who actually practice self control during dating and mature with life experience. Maturity leads to thinking for your self.
How's that for a Jim Bob answer?

Beyond Belief said...

For anyone who has not seen the ads for this weeks episode, apparently TLC realizes that most viewers already know the gender of the baby, so now Jill & Derick are at the sonogram, discussing whether or not Jill's baby "may," or "may not," have any physical disabilities, due to the fact that she was pregnant & living in CA. It's a lot along the lines of, if Jessa was having twins...both times? It's a terrible thing if they are doing this just to increase viewership. However I believe they know viewers are getting bored of pregnancy after pregnancy, gender reveal after gender reveal, home birth after home birth, & they need something more interesting to keep them watching. If they are truly doing this just to keep viewers interest then it's disgusting. They have lied enough & all the speculation about who's pregnant, who's having twins etc. cannot compare to tossing around the possibility that this baby is not healthy. They lie all the time but this is beyond belief.

LilBit0318 said...

Beyond Belief...If we're thinking of the same commercials, I don't believe they were referencing anything being wrong with the baby. It looked like Jill was having an ultrasound of her carotid arteries since Dr. Fedosky heard something strange when they all went for check-ups months ago. But still...Point well taken. Not to mention that that ultrasound should've been done months before it was. You'd better believe that if my doctor told me anything like that, I'd be in the cardiologist's office ASAP!

Hello said...

Most people would be following up with a cardiologist, but this is the Duggars. They are probably waiting for a cardiologist "friend" to show up since they most likely don't have medical insurance. If they are using the possibility that something is wrong with the baby then there is something seriously wrong with them.

Who Knows? said...

Wouldn't it just be Jillymuffin who had a serious medical problem. She has always received all the attention & I don't begrudge her all the attention & medical care she might need, but I still wonder how she could wait all this time to have a thorough check-up. As others have said, the Duggars play fast & loose with their health & safety & sometime it's going to catch up with them. After all, Jill returned to CA after being told that the Dr. was suspicious of something with her arteries. Who does that? They haven't accomplished a thing in their missionary work, not even learning the language but they can put off having all the necessary tests to see if she really does have a serious problem. Can you imagine if she does & she goes through a difficult labor & delivery again. I just hope this is not for ratings for the show. LilBit0318 is absolutely right about getting yourself to a good cardiologist, ASAP. You don't stay with Dr. Fedosky & his wife Ms. Theresa who they all seem to admire so much.

Dana Alton said...

It's my experience that a family doctor will set up an appointment with a specialist if there is a problem that he cannot diagnose. If you have 1/2 a brain and the doctor does not refer you, set it up yourself and get checked out, especially if you are carrying a blessing from God and going to a 3rd world country. Would Jill not want to do her best for her baby? On second thought, not really as she bragged she was in labor 24 hours, enough to stress out a newborn. How can Derrick, who has been to college so he must have some sense, not see to it that his wife get immediate care. Oh yeah, he's puking with some mystery wasting away disease himself. Why didn't her parents get on the case?? If it were my daughter, I'd be getting her to a cardiologist asap and pay for it, like any parent would, except maybe Jimbob if it requires him to open his wallet.

I do not agree that just because Derek went to college he should have common sense to have Jill's health on his radar.

I worked in HR and can assure you that there is a term for people who may have gone to college but outside of their field of study they are as dumb as a box of rocks. Educated idiots.

They can read a book and make an A on the test, graduate with honors but cannot reason things out....they need a book or YouTube to teach them step by step.

Aunt Bea said...

Why wasn't there a "Duggar bride to be" chaperone with Joy when she drove to Austin's family's house? Isn't one of their iron clad courting rules supposed to be that the GIRL'S family supply the chaperone? On that note, why was Austin's FATHER their chaperone when they were working on that house? Joy was alone with TWO males that were not her blood relatives. How did that pass muster? These are the things we would like explained during those very boring episodes...Perhaps it would add SOME interest to hear explanations.

I didnt watch the entire episode because it was so so slow and boring..however..in the beginning, JessaBlessa states twice that 'BengermanBenSeewald is back to work'. My question is doing what? Is he back being Jiminy BillyBobs gopher, choreboy, servant? Or did he actually escape the Duggar compound and manage to get employed 'on the outside'?

Heart in Florida said...

It would have been interesting to hear what Ben's work "IS" these days. Much more interesting than watching Jessa read her bible, AGAIN...how many times have those kids been through that book? Do they understand that the plot is the same and the end never changes? I could understand consulting the Bible is there is a situation in the household that someone or the couple would like to read up on, but is that the only book they have read over and over again..besides that "Waiting for Prince Charming" book written by that spinster?

So far we have been reminded that cooking for the Duggars requires large amounts of food by Jill, Jessa, Jinger and now Joy. Whats the big deal with this? They only open cans or cook ground beef. Open 1 can and buy 1lb of beef. There, not too terribly difficult now was it? It's called "math" and it's what elementary school children learn ................. Riiiiiiight. I forgot, Michelle was their teacher and Lord knows she is as dumb as a bag of hammers.

Elizabeth Ann said...

Wasn't Ben the bathroom cleaner at one time? We have not heard much about his work so it must just be serving Jimbob. If he had a real job, can you imagine the bragging? I thought his job was to change diapers....so who is doing that for Jessa now??

Gone with the wind said...

Re: Why there are so many changes in what the Duggars say they do, & what they actually do? I believe that between TLC, the Duggars PR team, & the Duggars themselves, they change their iron clad rules as quickly as the wind blows, i.e. Joy going off for an hour & a half drive by herself, when she was never even allowed go to the grocery store without a chaperone. Jill & Derick couldn't even make a private phone call in the church, to his mom at the hospital to see if she was going to be able to make it to the wedding. Jim Bob actually asking "do they have a chaperone for the phone call," & then saying it was ok, because whoever it was (I forget) was a good chaperone. I've always said that Jim Bob & Michelle lived their lives exactly as they wanted to, but then imposed these rules on their children. All the while keeping them under lock & key in that house with no outside socializing with other kids. Jim Bob even made them give up their weekly games of broom ball when the facility started charging admission. So the answer to why all the changes take place is, that they never truly believed in these rules & when it's convenient they abandon these strict rules. Most likely for the sake of the show & the money it brings. I've often wondered what Michelle's daughters thought of the pictures of her in her cheerleading uniform, compared to what they were forced to wear. Michelle & her friend Cindy used to go on overnight trips with the football team when they were cheerleaders. It makes no sense compared to the way those girls were raised. Those girls never lived their lives as real teenagers the way Michelle did. However the boys don't seem to have any of those rules in place, they just do what they want to do while discussing among themselves, if a certain man is a fit husband for their sisters. It's none of their business who their sisters marry. This is no "Ministry," it's a scripted TV show & that's why their iron clad rules change with the wind.

This show is beyond boring. How much longer will TLC keep viewers for this show? They are the most boring reality show family.

Just asking said...

Re: lisa mcgingness's comment about the cheesecake. Had to laugh as that was my first thought too. How do you know someone, who is your best friend for 15 yrs. & not know their favorite dessert? Guess it's because so much needs to be kept private, even between courting couples. Did have to give credit to Austin, when he sat down at the table to eat, the first thing he did was remove his hat. Did you hear that Duggar boys?? Also, as an oncology nurse, I was wondering if Derick's mom, Cathy has had a return of her cancer? She was definitely wearing a wig, usually a sign that someone is undergoing treatment, but her hair had grown back in after Jill & Derick's wedding. Also we never see Cathy's husband in any of the filming. I agree that it's ridiculous that Jessa is carrying the baby around constantly. Usually, you put your baby down in a crib instead of carrying it around all day, or just putting it down beside you on the couch. I think Michelle did the same thing though, so maybe that's where she learned to do that. I think Spurgeon is unbelievably spoiled & not just due to the new baby. He was very spoiled way before she had Henry. There were many comments, even by Jana that they would need to tame him down a bit after the baby was born.

I wish they had something new going on.

Just asking said...

Re: Captain Crunch's comment about Jill's fourth of July post, which showed Cathy with her own real hair, instead of a wig. I haven't seen those photos that you referred to. What I was referring to, was film taken when she went along with Jill, Derick, & of course the most important grandmother of all, Michelle. They all went to the ultrasound, to find out the gender of the baby. It was only my own personal opinion that it looked like she had a wig on, but as I mentioned, as an oncology nurse, I see ladies constantly, who are wearing a wig, due to undergoing treatment for their disease. Of course, I know I could definitely be wrong. However, that was my immediate first opinion, when I saw her. There are also some exceptionally good wigs now, so I believe that many times we couldn't really tell, unless we saw her in person. I was just concerned about the possibility of her having a re-occurrence of her illness, & hoping she wasn't going to be heading back to CA with Jill & Derick when they return. She probably realizes that Jill will need plenty of help when she has two children to deal with.

Bubbles said...

Joy probably had to be on FaceTime throughout the drive.

Did they film from inside the car? If so, then the camera person must have been the chaperone. And we know how well TLC vets their employees and contractors

Sigh...

LilBit0318 said...

Bubbles...They did film inside the car, but I doubt a cameraman was in the car. Too mich bulky equipment and stuff. And I've seen them use GoPros on other TLC shows. If you keep a close eye out, you'll see them mounted on and inside vehicles and such every now and then. I'd have to watch that part of the show again to see if I recognize the slight fish eye look GoPro cameras tend to give, but I'd say it's a safe bet that's what was going on.

I had to chuckle at this. I've a friend from college who loves cheesecake. I hate cheesecake. We both learned this about each other after knowing each other for six months and we weren't even particularly close friends.

Re:A comment by Just asking, about Jill's mother-in-law Cathy. As a nurse, I work in both the chemotherapy as well as the radiation clinics. We have a program set up for women expected to loose their hair. We deal with a couple of wig shops & encourage women to go there before they start to loose their hair, so the women there can see the color & texture of their hair. We also suggest they take a close friend or relative with them. If that's not possible we make arrangements for someone from clinic to accompany them. Having said all this, after seeing Jill's MIL, Cathy, on this weeks episode. I definitely believe she is wearing a wig. I hope & pray she doesn't have a re-occurrence of her illness but can't help but wonder. I agree with Just asking, she is wearing a wig. I notice after a comment was made, that we never see Cathy's husband, he appeared in this weeks episode. I didn't watch it the night it was on but saw it at a later time on social media.

I have to disagree with you there. My family's habit has been to sit the babies on the couch or on the floor when visiting others. The only time that they've ever been in a playpen is when they're at home. I'm deeply hesitant to call a toddler spoiled, especially if the only evidence is the Duggars saying that they need to "tame" the child. After all, the Duggars follow the Pearls, who think that an infant is spoiled and wicked because they're hungry or exploring their world. As long as Spurgeon isn't constantly throwing tantrums (which, AFAIK, he is not), I wouldn't call him spoiled.

Dana Alton said...

I'm glad Spurgeon is a bit spoiled which indicates he was not subject to abusive blanket training. Israel is another story.

Frannie D. said...

Still no at home photos and video's of Jill and the new baby, Israel with his baby brother, etc. Considering the Duggar passion for showing the world all the "wonderful" happenings in their lives, what's up with the video/photo blackout from Jill & Derrick. Just one pic of her in the hospital and having stayed in the hospital so long surely indicates a problem they do not care to share. Nothing wrong with finally being more private but since the Duggars "joyfully" announce everything to the media, this silence is strange.

Grandma Wagner said...

Jill situation could be that her uterine wall was still weak from the C-section only 2 years ago, her 40 hour labor didn't help the condition and when the C-section was performed, additional surgery had to be done to solve the situation, even perhaps a hysterectomy. This would be devastating to any young woman but especially a Gothard follower who could not longer birth babies for the cause.
