Honestly, when will be seeing Henry's birth? Henry Wilberforce was born at the beginning of February. All the other labour and deliveries have been television specials. What's going on? I can understand Henry's birthday getting bumped due to Joy's wedding, but getting bumped for Spurgeon's birthday?! Wasn't that like more than 8 months ago?

As far as I'm concerned, you see one Duggar birth, you've seen them all. It's just the same thing different, mom & dad, different year.

Jessa and Ben definitely win the award for picking the ugliest baby names that I've heard in ages.

Wow! how interesting. I think these people has just about bored the viewing people into oblivion. Does TLC really think anybody is interested in a child's birthday unless the child is a relative. Nothing against the little boy, but his parents are uninteresting. If these young people really did something with their lives, besides procreating, the show might survive. As it is, I can't see it lasting another season. The wedding was OK, but my thoughts watching it were, "this is just for the television audience". The couple did not even want to hang around. How many times must the viewing audience be subjected to JIMBOB crying his crocodile tears? There is nothing else to see or learn. If even one of them had talent, it might be worth watching, but listening to them is akin to taking a sleeping pill. The next thing will be somehow putting Josh back on the screen. They must know the show cannot last much longer. Better start getting jobs somewhere else because money is going to "Dry up" soon. JMHO

Ah yes, the obligatory "smash" cake. Really, these things are to be avoided at all costs, except from close family. And even that is limited.

Who on earth would want to actually watch this?

Tanya T said...

I still cannot believe they allowed cameraMEN to video them during labor and delivery and broadcast the moment on television ( censored obviously) and then preach modesty and not even allow the girls to wear normal swimming suits. That's messed up!

Grandma Wagner said...

Right Tanya, making a big deal about wearing long skirts, no shorts or bathing suits but it's okay for Jessa to spread her legs wide showing her most private part to camera men while pushing out a baby is twisted and shocking. Wonder what the camera men had to say to each other after that Duggar experience. They might be traumatized!! What woman reading this here would do such a thing? What husbands would feel right about it?? Okay, guys come on in the room and aim your cameras....how uncomfortable for them but obviously not for the pious Jessa or Ben who posts a lot of criticism about others on the internet.

Heart in Florida said...

I agree with you, posters, that it is ridiculous for them to film labor and delivery but pontificate about the immodesty of wearing ANY shorts, pants or even a more modestly cut bathing suit. We all know these young women have 'those lady parts' as they advertise them quite brazenly when they constantly talk about being pregnant. Twisted thinking if you ask me.

Aimee said...

Why one earth does being pregnant mean that Jessa cannot play a birthday party for her own son?! If she is too tired/too busy why even have one? I was surprised to see Joy doing it instead of poor Jana. Actually...we didn't really see Jana at all. I wonder where they are hiding her?

I can't believe I wasted brain cells on this show. Totally boring but here are my observations:

1. Jinger has lost all of her spunkiness that she used to have. She seems so childlike being married to Jeremy.

2. Jill and Jessa still get on my nerves.

3. Anna looks very pretty these days but of course she has stayed with her loser husband.

4. What is up with Josie's hair? Always looks greasy and unwashed.

5. Austin seems like a very hardworking nice guy- so far, he's my favorite.

6. When everyone was getting ready for Spurgeon's party at the Duggar's house, note that everyone who were walking barefoot in the house had nasty dirty feet! Gross!!

Heart in Florida: Didn't Josh take Anna to a birthing centre (can't remember which M kid it was for) because the female doctor was away and unavailable for the birth, he couldn't take her to a male doctor. It was however ok to let a male film crew be present and point a camera at Anna's chuffie, then broadcast it for all to see (all burred out if course). Very twisted thinking yes, but its amazing what people will do for their image and a big enough paycheck.

LilBit0318 said...

Emma...Point well taken. But it was actually Mackynzie's birth the doctor was out of town for. They hemmed and hawed around the house about it, called Jim Bob for advice (As if he was in any way qualified!), and then decided to have a home birth. Then Michael was the infamous "toilet birth" at home again. And Marcus was the last birth of Anna's that we saw. That was the one where they went to the birthing center (After waiting around 'til the last second for Michelle to get to the house, then putting her in the front passenger seat shooting daggers out her eyes...) and Anna was scared to death that the baby would drown during a water birth.

Heart in Florida said...

Emma: Anna had M1 at home in the mold house because Dr. Sarver, her female gyn was out of town. M2 was born at home in the famous "toilet birth", M3 was born at that quack 'midwife assistant's shack in a bathtub and they had an hour drive to her house. Anna was scared to death that she would deliver in the minivan. Miss Teresa, another unqualified lay person, a birthing assistant if that, was in the car with her; Michelle looked fit to be tied during that ride as she was in the van too and Joshie was driving. Anna was afraid that M3 was going to drown being born under water and no one was particularly concerned about Anna's fear of this. Josh had her up and out of that place in about 2 hours after delivery and she had that awful hour ride back home to the mold house with, you guessed it, ALL OF THE DUGGARS there.
That's the way I remember the first M3. We all know M4's birth was a national security secret.

Aunt Bea said...

I think Joy 'planned' the birthday party because this season is supposed to highlight HER and her courtship/wedding. Joy is, dumb as a post, though.

Elspeth said...

M3 was born at that quack 'midwife assistant's shack in a bathtub
Not quite accurate. Jill is the one who saw the midwife with the "shack" in front of the house. It was simply a shed in reality. Anna's midwife has her business in a house and is an entirely different person. Anna also did not deliver in a bathtub but in a birthing pool.

Meme said...

Wonder what Michelle thinks of Jill asking Jinger if she is "pregnant" yet, rather than asking if she's "expecting?" That brazen "P" word! Did everyone notice how dirty Josie was? Her hair was awful. Michelle and Jim Bob do NOT physically care for those children, as we know. Most all the big girls are gone now and it shows.

Emma said...

You guys have impressive memories! All of Anna's Televised births have kind of melded together in my mind. The point heart in florida highlighted about Anna thinking her baby would drown in the birthing pool really shows their ignorance about childbirth, which for a family whose main purpose in life is to push out as many blessings as God will allow is astonishing. Most mothers to be read, research and talk to professionals and friends and family to educate themselves so they can make informed decisions (I had two books which were dog eared by the time no 2 was born). This lot remain blissfully ignotant and fly by the seat of their pants, but then they don't hold much candle to book learning, don't seem to have much professional care during pregnancy and family and friends are all of the same mind set so not much help there. Poor Anna to not have a good support system around you when you are going through childbirth must be terrifying, and Michelle is useless as she probably thinks 'i've done this 19 times what are you worried for (I am sure shes also envious as hell that her DIL is getting all the attentìon and not her), just sad.

watching this show makes no sense what 17 year old boy wants even to get married or even plans it at that young of age? and what dumb girl like joy fixes house in a skirt and no saftey gear and no socks. seems Austin does not know much about saftey? would not want to work with him?

Natalie Jervis said...

Expecting in her tummy?? That's Michelle's way of speaking, like to a young child. These sheltered girls, wearing long skirts their entire life seem very comfortable taking off their underward & exposing their private area to camera men as they birth another Dugger baby. I just don't understand it.

I wonder if Jessa and Jill have a calendar posted on their fridge to make sure everyone who darkens their door can see if they had a period that month.....like Mama had. It is a wonderful conversation starter and makes for nice filler for an episode.

Elspeth: Yes, I stand corrected. Anna did deliver M3 in a home-type labor house. The woman was the wife of that awful doctor Derick saw who had lost his license I understand in the past. Yes, she delivered in a birthing pool, which was like a roman bath tub to me. I think I have the rest correctly. She than had to ride back soon after delivering M3 in the mini van for an hour and the whole D family was there within minutes at the mold house.

Elspeth said...

The woman who delivered Marcus was an actual licensed midwife. I can't remember who was riding in the back seat with Anna. That may have been the doula Teresa Fedosky wife of the awful doctor or it may have been midwife trainee Mrs. Query. I just don't remember who it was.

sandi said...

It was Ms Query with Anna.I think Teresa's Dr husband had a scandal by that point and lost his license,so it seems they haven't been on the show since, iirc

Re:lisa mcginges's comments about Joy working on the house with no safety gear. All the Duggar girls have worked dressed that way on various projects, that Jim Bob has had for them. They usually always wear flip flops too. But to quote Jessa "us Duggars girls can do lots of stuff dressed this way." May not be verbatim but that's then general answer she gave when asked why they didn't have on any safety gear while working on a house project for Jim Bob. So that's nothing new they always work that way. When they cleaned the McMansion that Jill & Derick now live in, even the littlest children were in there cleaning with no gloves on, or anything covering their hair etc. Seemed pretty dangerous & extremely dirty to me but not to Jim Bob. That was one of those days when the kids came down stairs & he announced,"I have a surprise for you, today we're going to work on a project I have." Sort of like when he surprised the girls by taking them to give blood. He always makes it sound like they are going to Disney World. So no surprise with Joy working that way, they are all used to it.

Just thought of one more thing. Was anyone else rolling their eyes at Jeremy not knowing the difference between a vegetable peeler and a cheese grater? Hmmm...One's boxy with an open bottom and blades on the outside, and the other is a essentially a small, hand-held blade. I know that even with almost no kitchen skills! And this guy's supposed to be the educated, smart, worldy son-in-law?!

InVA said...

Yes, I too was dismayed to see Austin and Joy using a power saw with no safety goggles.

Somehow these Duggars seem to escape injuries that they easily could have in situations like this where they don't even take the most easy of precautions. Glad for them, but it's a matter of time before luck runs out, right?

Saw that Derick and Jill went on a "babymoon". Someone made the point that they beg for money but then go on trips like this. I'm sure it won't sink in for them, if they even care, but it just highlights again how messy they are.

I will say one thing for Jeremy. When they asked for the couple's one year plan he said they would be serving in Laredo. When asked for their 5 year plan he said they would still be serving in Laredo and maybe will have started a family. For Jinger's sake I hope this is his real timeline - I hope that she is allowed some time to grow up, grow away from her family, and then she can begin with the babies. I find it very encouraging that they have been married since November and no pregnancy announcement has come yet. I realize that for the rest of us this is totally normal but she is really going against the family with this. Who cares if the man doesn't know his kitchen gadgets?? At least he has figured out how NOT to get his wife pregnant right away.

Aunt Bea said...

Jinger doesn't seem like she's pining away for babies. I think she's ok with it for now to wait.

Andrea said...

Didn't watch but will say this: 1.379 M viewers and a .31 rating This show really isn't ending any time soon. I guess the take away is people really will watch anything. Personally I didn't watch. I will however watch the birth episode because Jessa really did nearly die the first time so I'm wondering how she's going to react to giving birth at home the second time. I really have a hard time believing she didn't suffer from a serious case of PTSD after her first home birth. I mean, she gave birth at home and then had to call a ambulance and leave your baby behind. I'd love to be a fly in the wall of the ER when Jessa came in bleeding, without her baby. Are the ER Doctors and Nurses kind or annoyed? Befuddled by the stupidity? What do they say? How can they not impress about her and her family the seriousness of the situation?

It was the only math taught around the homeschooling table...how to calculate fertility, pregnancy, and due dates.

Sigh.

Lynn ODonnell said...

I was thinking the same thing. The Duggars are convinced birth control caused Michelle's miscarriage and that's why they don't believe in it. As long as he assured her it won't cause any issues maybe she's okay with it.

Done with Duggars said...

Personally, I don't think there's anything interesting about Jessa giving birth to her second child. Nothing has even been mentioned about any Dr. or midwife or any type of prenatal care for that matter. If she's not going to mention her prenatal care then whatever happens during labor & delivery is her reward for ignoring something so important, especially after the last time. I'm sure it went ok as she would have been dropping hints to any magazine or any place she could get publicity & that hasn't happened. We would have heard something by now. Also the fact that when it as Spurgeon's 1st birthday & she hadn't even had her second child, all she & Ben were again talking about was adoption & foster care for another child. Makes me sick. She has a small child & is ready to give birth to an infant & all she can talk about is adopting. Don't these people think a child of one & an infant need all their love & attention & the talk of adoption, which is really just all talk, can wait until their babies are at least in the terrible twos. I'm done with them

I couldn't get past the dirty feet going out on a date. Clearly, she had not bathed. And they all need a haircut, shampoo and a good scrubbing.

Just Saying said...

Re: Susie's comment. I also couldn't get over the black feet. I don't think those kids are ever bathed. I remember the ritual when my children were small; first a bath, then p.j.'s on, teeth brushed then a bedtime story. I have a 14 month old granddaughter, who is now following the same routine. I wonder if the Duggar kids ever had a bedtime story (other than Bible verses) & were they smart enough to let their parents know (if the parents were reading the story) that they had skipped a page accidently or even just to get it over with? If you never bathe your children when they desperately need a bath, then you have too many children.

Stephanie from Virginia said...

It was just stupid. Anna had Mac and everything went as smoothly as those things go. Then she gave birth to Michael in the toilet.

Well, what the heck were they trying to prove by driving an hour away for just another stupid home birth?

Wait, I remember now, Jill was doing her fake midwifery classes and Jana was her accountability partner and was forced to pretend to "doula" I looked up doula back then and it's s helped that fetches water and sheets and other things. Why do you need training to fetch water?

sandi said...

Idk about doula's there, but where I am,they help coach the mom through labor, and act as a liaison between the Dr and mother,if needed. They help her stick to her birth plan and encourage her, provide backrubs and such;things that help with pain.So it does take some medical knowledge, just not as much as a real midwife requires.
Jana lightly patting the mother's hand really irritated me,as she looked totally disconnected from the situation and the new mom.Being a good doula means setting aside all of your own emotions, and taking on those of the new mom to get her through it!
It requires someone with a lot of empathy, and I'm not saying Jana doesn't have any,it just seemed more like something for her to do and for tlc to film, than anything else.Jmo

Aunt Bea said...

sandi, Jana never wanted to be a doula. She had to go along with Jill to be her accountability partner when Jill had to go in the 'field' and observe and/or assist in deliveries. Jana had no intent of her own to pursue this. As you can see, as soon as Jill quit, Jana quit too.

sandi said...

Aunt Bea,yes,it showed, too, that Jana didn't really care to be there.I wish she could pursue something she would really like to do,instead of sister mom and family cook

I am hoping the Spurgeon bday party was just a story line to focus on Joy...I have never heard of a mother pregnant or not pregnant not being activein participating in the planning of her baby's first birthday party...also what does Michelle do???Is she an active part of her children's care...the minors who are still very young...??it seems she has relinquished all responsibility of beingmother and the keeper of the home to the older daughters...I have no issues with the kids pitching in and helping but it seems the older women are running the home...

Heart in Florida said...

Did anyone notice in the episode when Joy was preparing for Spruge's party and the camera panned across the island/counter that Michelle ducked out of the way? I don't think she was supposed to be filmed. She was caught in the panning shot. I thought that should have been edited out. I didn't want to see her any way.
