This will be exciting...NOT!

In theory, the Duggars' courtships, weddings, and birthings should be interesting, but they'
re really not--unless one is excited by formulaic situations in which the players are completely interchangeable. Bland, low performing young men and naive, minimally educated child-women, each could substitute for any other. Kendra could substitute for Anna and no one would notice. Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy could fill one another and no one would be the wiser. Ben, Derek, and Jeremy might likewise be lego figures (as Jim Bob has counseled) and one would have exactly the same results--under-resourced family units eking out an existence, convinced that criticism of their "ministry" is the work of The Enemy, and that they deserve the best because they "walk with their Lord". It would be ludicrous, except it's a tragedy for the children they deprive of any kind of enrichment or horizon broadening.

Can you imagine one of the Duggar wives on "Celebrity Wife Swap", taking the place of Kim Kardashian or Kendra Wilkinson? Now THAT would be interesting!

got2bdrc: a great post. Yes, the Duggars and their spouses are quite bland and interchangeable. I, personally did not find Joy's proposal interesting in the least. I'm not an outdoorsy type of person, perhaps that's influencing my opinion. Austin is completely inexperienced about how to do 'those things', he was trying to make it special, etc., but they're both so young and haven't developed any personality of their own really, yet. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. He has parents who hover over him. I'm not a fan of his father. Did Joy have to have an audience watching ove them when he proposed? How did Joy's brother get there? I didn't see him at all before then.

I'm absolutely amazed by the ratings!!!!! :-(

I had zero interest in watching, but even just the description of the episode sounded sooooo boring.

So, was this the last episode this season? During the "Outdaughtered" marathon today they had a commercial for next week's Counting On and it shows like a couples q&a. That means if the show manages to come back in the fall we will just then see the wedding dress shopping etc? Will Jill have a birth special?

ok jess is already forcing joy to help do housework and help with her two kids. joy is already saying I want as many kids God wants us to have. and cooking lunch for Jessa. Poor Jesse does not go out with two kids. is must be fansty island or something.

Kendra's dad is very youthful looking. If she and J decide to have a honeymoon baby, people won't believe he's the granddad! Dare I say, her father looks the same age as Josh.

Jill said she was four months pregnant in this episode. Is it just me, or did she look bigger than four months? Maybe the tight shirt makes her look bigger or maybe because she has large babies?

I doubt the 'tell all' with the Duggars next week will be very interesting especially with Dr.Oz's daughter as the interviewer. She probably knows nothing about them.

I loved it when the producer, or who ever it was, asked if the Duggar kids missed Jill & Derrick. Jordyn's answer -total innocence- was, 'of course who wouldn't? She was corrected by one of her brothers with a more Duggarized answer.

Again, poor neglected Jordyn. Josie gets a dress from Jinger, while most of the younger kids, including Jordyn get candy and some goofy masks & Jessa's kids get boots.

Jess has been raised that way she has watched her mom have babies and everybody else does all the housework "I have a baby and one on the way I can't clean my house or go to the store" :( And when Ben said to clean the sofa can't he clean the sofa if his baby spit up on it sad .Just saying

Jill looked big. I thought the same thing. The girls have babies so close together they just seem to stay heavy after the first one.

I really thought Derrick looked good after his haircut. I was surprised he grew his hair so long as I thought that might be breaking some type of male rule about having long hair.

We have to remember that Derick did not grow up either IFB or Gothard. He was and still is Southern Baptist. The standards are different. Southern Baptists aren't nearly as legalistic as Gothard.

Kendra's dad looks like he's 20! Holy smokes.

Derick doesn't seem to be living a Southern Baptist life. It appears he is living a Duggar-type of life. Don't see many differences; if he thought differently, perhaps Jill would be more like Jinger is appearing to be.
Once again, thanks, Elspeth, for your insightful post. Let us know more facts. Thank you.

All I have to say is: hallelujah, the man bun is gone!!!!!

roddma said...

I think Derick's man bun was gone three or four months ago. Some say he was trying to 'blend in' with the citizens and other say he was trying to look like Jesus, which no one knows if He had long hair. Anyhow, it didn't become Derick at all.

The show is crazy behind the real times. It was before Jill & Derick took their last trip to CA that Jill cut his hair and he looks somewhat normal. Now he's getting the grungy look again, like a rebellion against Jimbob's neat boy's cuts. Wasn't it Jimbob's supposed doctor friend who did that scary job on Derick's mouth & teeth? Jimbob has always been wanting good hair and good teeth for his kids (even though the boys do not take after him with a good head of hair. The young boys are loosing hair like 60 year old men.

The level of crass, tacky, and "Gibsmedat", of this family, continues with the next generation of Duggars. A wedding registry, for fans, to buy wedding gifts.

If they want a really good show, it should be in sequence!!!!! this is crazy!
