Motivation by Deanna

What I really do wonder, is whether Jim Bob knowingly signed on to be a reality TV star, and whether he realizes now how far they have strayed from their original intentions to "motivate" others? Can we really blame TLC completely for this family's complete betrayal of their supposedly original values? Even if they did sign an iron-clad contract, would they not have seen that filming births, premature infants, etc. would not be in line with the very message the family purports to want to send?

Or is Jim Bob just a very savvy business man who looked at his giant family as a personal cash cow, one that could make them very rich? In other words, when they staged all the scenes discussed above, did he do so willingly, because it was ALWAYS all about the money?
What do people think? Were they sellouts from the get-go, or did Jim Bob just get lured in by the money after awhile?

Duggars Dance to the TLC Tune?

I know we are all fascinated, as a viewing public, by the events in these people's lives. We all love to see little people, giants, people born without faces, morbidly obese people, people with multiples face adversity and overcome obstacles. I think the original intention of these reality shows was to depict triumph of the human spirit. That was a good thing.

But these reality shows, with children in particular, have become like a circus. Their lives are being played out on national TV, with all the family drama (G family, little people). It just isn't right or healthy for children, including the Duggars, to grow up with TV cameras filming their daily lives. Being a reality TV star because your parents were so foolish as to sell off your childhood is really dangerous. In many ways it is far worse than other child stars (of movies, etc), because none of the little Duggars had a choice or even believe that they are "acting".

These reality shows have gone too far. They are exploiting families, and the families go along with it because they love the money. Jim Bob and Josh probably couldn't provide for their families, at this point, without TLC. They have gotten themselves into exactly the same position as the G family---greed has a way of doing that.We should boycott ALL reality TV shows with children. They're all exploitive!

Josie Report

Cousin Amy has reported that Josie is up to 2 lb 4 oz.

Sun, Jan 31 2010, Special Duggar Delivery

Complications arise when Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19th child, Josie, arrives prematurely.

UPDATE: 19 Kids and Counting Premieres Jan 31.
Less than a year after welcoming Jordyn-Grace into the world, Michelle Duggar gave birth, months prematurely, to her and husband Jim Bob's 19th child and ninth daughter, Josie Brooklyn, in December 2009. And there's more room at the inn -- the Arkansas family's 7,000-square-foot home -- as the couple say they'll continue having children as long as Michelle is able. The Duggar brood also includes MacKynzie Renee, eldest son Josh's daughter, also born in 2009, with wife Anna. (From MSN)

The Duggar family is no stranger to welcoming a new baby to the family. But when complications arise, Jim Bob and Michelle meet baby nineteen, Josie, earlier than expected. Watch as the family welcomes Josie with a Duggar-sized amount of hope and love. (From TLC)

Will update with other sites as they become available.

Please do not report a date change. Going to the schedule from the Duggar page does not show the episode on Jan 31. However, the master TLC schedule has it on Jan 31.

Free Discussion January 2010 Part Two

Please use this for Duggar sightings, speculation, or general discussion. Note that this is Duggar discussion not other families, TV shows, or personal stories. If you wish to discuss other TLC shows, please visit TLCwithoutpity.blogspot.com. Thank you!

I closed the other thread both because of it's size and how things were getting overly contentious again. We understand religion is part of the Duggar's life, but we need to keep the discussion there on what is part of the show and not venture into each other's religions, please. The problem usually arises when there are no new episodes and people start speculating about the Duggars.

Anonymous Comments

The question was sent through again about not having anonymous comments since it gets confusing who has which opinion. I put up a poll to see what most of the readers think of the option. Please vote if you have an opinon or you make select don't care if it doesn't matter to you.

I received a comment about the poll and find some info is in order. Your choices when commenting aren't only to have a Google account or be anonymous. You may select name/URL and put in the name of your choosing without bothering with the URL portion.

The poll closed and we will continue offering the anonymous option. 103 voted to continue allowing anonymous plus another 60 selected don't care. That is against 92 who wanted to end the anonymous option. Thank you for voting and making your wishes known.

Fact or Fiction

I often get frustrated when I see misinformation quoted as fact in a discussion on the Duggar family. That misinformation is then passed on and in the minds of others, becomes “truth”. What misinformation has caught your attention in these forums and elsewhere? Even better, can you post a link to the correct information?

Thanks to Somebody's Nana.

Comments to the moderators

Please read!

Comments and questions to the moderators sent through comments will usually not be addressed. As suggested in our rules, please send questions or comments solely intended for the mods in an email. We will not normally respond to mod questions sent in comments unless it is a general concern. Also we have multiple moderators so your question may be seen by one while someone else was actually processing the comment or comments in question. Thank you.

Also, please remember not to tell other commenters and readers how to act, think, or feel. Their opinions and feelings while possibly not matching yours are as equally valuable to them as your opinions and feelings are to you. I just rejected another comment that was perfectly acceptable until the last sentence. That sentence was an admonition of how to post during this difficult time for the Duggars. Some people may be very sympathetic to the Duggars at this time and others may not be. It is too much to expect that everyone commenting here will be in consistent agreement. Thanks!

Also please remember the topic of the blog is the Duggar family and show. It is not about homeschooling in general, teacher aides or not in various states, religion in general, etc. We're getting quite a few comments about rejected comments. Most were either too far off topic, were directed at another commenter, or were trying to tell other people what to think or behave.

Links are limited to those relevant to the Duggars. Links to various stories or blogs of other preemie families are not appropriate as it will lead to discussion of that child and family.

Duggar Recipes

How many have tried a Duggar recipe and what did you think? What did you change or would you change? I admit I made the Duggar rolls for Christmas this year. I didn't tell the family where the recipe came from until after dinner. Anyway, I seem to now be signed on for making them again next year. They were very good. One thing I changed was to use butter instead of "shortening." I can't bring myself to use solid Crisco. I made the rolls more rectangular than truly crescent also.
