Daily Mail has a story about the Derick-Jim Bob rift. Nothing new, really, but Daily Mail is located in the U.K.
Well last night TLC began the old Counting On Shows starting with ah sigh Duggar pregnancies & gender reveals. Watched yet again Lauren complaining then I just couldn’t take it any longer so switched TV channels
How much longer can the show go on? I think the kids pausing on the subject of getting married and having children is becoming more apparent. Without any real news or any real changes how is the show supposed to survive.
Counting On week after week the same old show. I find it insulting & offensive when Jim Bob & Michelle are on camera spewing their inane advice that’s clearly shallow, self absorbed, dishonest & just wrong!
IMO, the Duggars and Bates are going to have to decide if they want to lose their shows through viewer boredom, or actually start telling the real stories. Its that simple. Its up to them in the long run. Vacations and weddings are great but there has to be something more after all this time.
Willow,I agree.The Bates are more interesting,even when there are no weddings or births going on.
There are only 2 births this year so far,so I'm guessing Jb will pull something out of the hat,like a double wedding for the twins,Jer and Jed.Nothing would surprise me anymore.Jmo
Ok so the Duggar’s Counting On show returns June 30th. Apparently as advertised the show will focus on Jinger’s pregnancy, other Duggar pregnancies, perhaps a courtship & the grandkids. So basically the same old worn out & tired, boring show. Obviously TLC chooses to ignore any of all comments from viewers. Not surprised. This season will not watch Counting On as there are far more other program choices to watch.
Are the Duggars no longer going on mission trips to Honduras and El Salvador? Maybe Derek will write on his book whose idea was it to live in El Salvador.
I still don't want to see Jim Bob OR Michelle on camera, let alone speaking their 'words of wisdom'. They have nothing to say at this point. After the Josh scandals were revealed and NOT BY THEM, they need to practice the humility they preach to others, take a seat and shut up. Their way of raising children did NOT produce 19 'cookie cutter children' who want exactly the same thing as they did.
Obviously the pseudo mission trips to El Salvador & Honduras was all for show to capture the viewing audience. I believe JB was the one who forced Derick & Jill into becoming temp missionaries again for the viewing audience. Jim Bob is minus ethics, integrity, manners & respect. He’s self absorbed his attempts to “act” in front of the camera definitely fail or fall short. Both Jim Bob & Michelle have NO wisdom.
In order to attempt to raise the numbers Jim Bob will probably arrange a marriage for Jer & Jed SS he’s that desperate to keep the TLC money train rolling in. By now most viewers are tired of Jana will she or won’t she find a husband?
Frankly Jim Bob does not have the intellectual level to keep up with Derick as long ago Jim Bob barely made it through HS.
How much run time will be devoted, do you think, to Jed(?)s political running? Will this season be used as campaign fodder? Is that even allowed in the States (I’m not American)

I agree with Sparkey. I believe that is why JB keeps such close tabs on his childrens' education and careers. He is afraid they will figure things out and show him up in no time at all. I don't think ALL of JB's kids are smarter than him, but definitely SOME of them are. Poor Jim Bob.
The new season was scheduled to start on June 30th but the date got moved to a week later. I wonder what was taken out of the show? I imagine JB is kicking himself for having taken Jill all the way to Nepal to meet Derick, now that he is keeping them from the family. Too bad he won’t keep Josh away from the family as well, especially with so many young nieces who are going to be taught that wearing jeans is a way to tempt men and will be made to feel guilty for getting abused.
Did TLC or JB & Michelle pay for the Duggar girls weddings? Did TLC or the parents of Anna, Abbie, Kendra & Lauren pay for their weddings? Many of the Duggar’s honeymooned in Europe. Did TLC or all of the parents pay for these trips?
Ok I believe JB could be intimidated by Derick. Surely JB now realizes Derick is far smarter than he is. The only true issue that JB is capable of discussing is the sick Cult, marrying off his kids & promoting continual pregnancies. Not much more thought to his brain. Oh & JB’s archaic opinions on a marriage which imprison women & wives. Disgusting.
Oh you know some of the Duggar kids will eventually determine their Dad is a Big Fraud who for most of their lives has chosen to deceive them specific to limiting their education & brainwashing via the sick Gothard Cult.
It’s clear that JB & Michelle have never really held Josh accountable for his despicable crime against his sisters. It was evident of their behavior during the Meghan Kelly interview. Yet JB shuns Jill. The whole situation is a huge mess. Once again JB demonstrating NO Respect for women. TLC needs to eliminate JB & Michelle from ALL camera time.
Jed Duggar’s political career is going nowhere quickly. Majority of people consider the Duggar’s to be a laughable joke. Especially Jim Bob who long ago completely lost all credibility.
I agree with you! But now I can’t help but wonder why were Jill and Derick the ones to go there? It could have been Josh and family to keep him away or any other of the children.
This is the most bizarre family on the planet (that I know of). I feel for the women but at the same time I want to shake some sense into them. I’m hoping the rumours of Derek’s book are true and will expose truths about the how JB supports women’s oppression and absurd ways to “train” children. No education, no exposure to the world around them, no hope of ever developing individual thoughts. Programmed, robotic bobble heads that nod simultaneously when he preaches. Sad, sad world they live in. And now it’s repeating itself with the babies born into the madness. Patriarchy is an accepted, unquestioned, way of life for this crew.
KB All of the Duggar women project an air of not thinking for themselves. Sadly each seem to be content to live in an unrealistic world obeying their husbands with only thoughts of continual pregnancies. Each of these Duggar women send normal women sprinting back to the 18th century. In today’s world women have worked so hard & progressed in many careers once male dominated. Because the Duggar kids Gothard Cult way of life the women will always be held back & never permitted to pursue a career other than a wife & a Mom.
I hope at least some of the kids have critical thinking skills,and will use them when they leave home.Or maybe time will have them grow into their own minds.I know that happened for me,although I wasn't raised nearly as conservatively as fundie kids are.Like Jinger and Jill seem to be having kids when they want them,not just mindlessly.
I hope Derick's book exposes a lot as well.

With a few of the married Duggar guys & sons in law (Ben) not really employed. What happens when the TLC gravy train stops rolling in?
It isn't just Derick who is disgusted with Jim Bob. Many Independent Baptists do not approve of JB OR Michelle because of how Michelle pawned the little kids off on the older girls back in the day. THEN, the Josh scandal happened and the crap hit the fan. That is when other Indep. Baptists said, "See? they should have raised their own children!" I am not making this up. Many felt that the Duggars were too free & easy with their children.
Nan,Thanks to tlc,I think Jb has many investments,and can keep the gravy train rolling.He doesn't seem to be too worried.If he was,it seems he would get the guys into some sort of gainful employment,but he seems happy to let them do nothing.Sad existence for them all.Jmo

Yes Lauren is Latina. She is Salvadoran on her mom's side.
On another note, I wonder if there will be anything new-ish when the new season starts. It has been so quiet on the Duggar front lately. I think they probably pushed the first show back a week due to the special that Oprah Winfrey had on all the Discovery channels.
I would give anything if they would actually tell us what all the "men" do for a living (besides "help" Jim Bob). LOL. They said a long time ago that Joe had a real estate license but can you picture him out working the neighborhood and showing properties to people? No. Not even. He "works" at the "car lot" and everyone knows it.

Kate Joy, well the fact that it’s rumored both Joseph & Josiah we’re forced into arranged marriages is no surprise. Sandi, I am hopeful TLC could be managed by a few educated people so why does it appear that uneducated & despicable Jim Bob have some sort of hold over TLC? It’s perplexing.
From what I read about the Duggar IBLP/'religious' rules many other child-breeding women pawn off the other children to the older daughters to raise for them. Michelle wasn't/isn't the only one to do so. It's in their belief system that the eldest daughter, especially, is the care taker of the children. Sad but true.
When Counting On begins again I do not anticipate anything new. It will be the same tired drawn out scenario as before. Basically ignorance on parade!
Obviously when these girls are pregnant & wearing taut clothing it’s to gain attention to show the physical side of their marriages. I really believe these girls are more interested in the pregnancy then the child.

TLC pays for everything. Otherwise, the weddings would be held in the backyard, with punch and cake. Everyone would borrow a wedding dress, or shop at Goodwill, not a fancy bride shop.
Honeymoon would be at a camp, probably the one run by Johanna's husband's family.

I remember she once said she is Salvadorean though I’m not sure if she was born there or one of her parents is from there. Her being Salvadorean makes me wonder why were Jill and Derick the ones to go to El Salvador when it could have been any of the other kids such as Josiah, perhaps because cracks in the relationship with Derick were beginning to show so they had to go away. Josh could have went but I guess he had to be kept close in order to protect him.
I don't particularly like Jeremy or Derelict, but at least they are not lumping around the compound, eating table scraps given to them by JB.
The way it played out on the show was that Jill and Derick went to El Salvador because they wanted to. They had originally planned to be missionaries anyway. My question about JB would be whether he pressured them to go to El Salvador instead of back to Nepal. I had the feeling at the time they wanted to go to Nepal. I think, just my guess, JB and maybe even Jill, wanted El Salvador because it was closer, right?
I so agree about Jeremy and Derick and might I even add Austin to that list. lol You would think the Duggar boys would get some ideas from their sisters' husbands, but apparently not. Even if they did, JB would squash it.
Lauren Duggar is 1/4 Salvadorean. Her mother is half Salvadorean. Not much of that left in Bella. The Duggars and Ruarks have been in the US for hundreds of years. I once ran across a family tree line of Michelle and Jim Bob. Their families came here in the 1600s and 1700s from Great Britain and that area.
Re Derick & Jill... I recall the aft they became engaged. Here was Derick a college grad & man sitting in a restaurant with Jill & 2 of Jill’s sisters as chaperones. I mean how friggin antiquated was that scene? A grown man requiring a chaperone is just really lame & stupid or both.
Derick & Jeremy never required a chaperone. Was surprised they both went along with JB’s moronic rules.
Josh Duggar is the Prince of table scraps! Curious as to how far Josh’s leash extends from JB? Poor Josh stuck in a marriage & now with 6 kids he’s one who will never grow up & why should he as Daddy JB controls the $$ there’s no motivation to provide for his family. I don’t believe Josh has the respect of his brothers particularly JD or the brothers in law as well.
I think Joy was Jill and Derick's chaparone.Iirc,she asked Derick if Jb said it was ok for them to hold hands,and she was their chaparone on the day of the wedding
I think JB and M have decided that Josh will take care of them when they are old and inherit the property. Its clear that he is the child they will never give up on. I think in a few years he and his family will move on in the main house. I think the only reason he hasn't done it yet is because Jana lives there.
My belief about Jeremy and those courtship rules are that Jeremy played along with Jim Bob to be able to get to know Jinger. Daddy Vuolo advised his son, Jeremy, to play along with it and after they were married he advised Jeremy that he could do as HE pleased. So, Jeremy went along with it. As we see now. Jinger dresses to please her husband and HIS rules prevail. Nothing JB can do about it.

After Mary Duggar’s husband passed & later if Mary had met a man she wanted to date at age 78 I believe JB would have insisted on a chaperone as stupid as that is well JB doesn’t have both oars in the water.
Why on this Earth would Derick & Jill require a chaperone on the day of their wedding. Can we say Absurd!!!!

I highly doubt that Jill and Derick ever wanted to be missionaries. If that were the case, they would have never settled in Arkansas full time, instead, they would be spending their time living between different countries.
Even TLC knows there's nothing else interesting to film, but they must be making money, otherwise why bother? TLC also knows that in spite of all the complaints about the show, people will still watch it because it's like a train wreck. It's awful, but you can't take your eyes off it.
I agree with Sparkey that the show is definitely ignorance on parade, but human nature being what it is many will watch this freak show which means that TLC will keep it on as long as possible. If all the people who don't like the Duggars stopped watching the ratings would go way down.
