The engagement announcement is out.
The wedding is supposed to be this Saturday. Let's see how it's handled.

I would be so displeased if my fiance asked me to marry him in such a way-clearly this was done by the production company! Let's see...what's JD into? Planes-okay, let's put him in a hanger. But we need some brightness so the scene pops on camera-let's add a marquee sign.
Two words... SPARE ME. They are marrying their "best friend"
Is it just me, or does John David look awful in the photos they put out there? Way too scraggly-, scruffy-, and unkempt-looking for me!
Well that didn't take long. Surprise surprise.... not! At least she's not another teenage bride.
Very staged "The Bachelor " type proposal.
I hope and pray they have the wedding in Oklahoma and then settle into a nice house and life nowhere near the Duggar compound.
It irks me that every time there is an article online about any of the Duggar kids, the first thing you see when you open the link is that huge photo of Michelle gawking lovingly at JB as he gives their "using birth control is sin" testimony for the zillionth time. Then and only then can you scroll down and read the article. So now John-David is next to marry and "take one for the team" to keep up the dwindling interest. Happy for them and hoping Abbie has a great time decorating the house that John-David built.
Re:Cindy's comments I'm not sure if Cidny is aware that John David already owns a house near the Duggars. He has owned it for a number of yrs. Something the bank gave him in exchange for work he did for them. However, Jim Bob told him he couldn't live in his house until he was married & so he has lived at home even though he has owned this house for yrs. Based on the fact that he already has this house I would be very surprised if they lived anywhere else. I know John David did a great deal of renovations on this house so I'm sure it's in fairly good condition.
I'm sure everyone is very surprised that John David & Abbie are engaged already. I didn't expect an engagement announcement for at least another week or so, but I guess we need to consider it's going to be the start of a new season, of "Counting On,". I'd be wishing them a happy marriage & a lifetime of love, if the entire thing wasn't so staged.
Courtship, marriage, honeymoon, pregnancy, gender reveal party, baby, repeat. The next one in line is Jeremiah.
Just an observation but suddenly Abbie Burnett went from just "Abbie" to "Abbie-Grace". Is there another Abbie waiting in the wings for Duggar courtship?
Mickey2942 is right on target with what's coming up on "Counting On." This will continue as long as viewers continue to tune in . I so wish that the very people who feel for theses young people, would realize, that they are exactly the reason all these, courtships, engagements, weddings, honeymoons, pregnancies, gender reveals, babies births, are taking place. Viewers bring in money & we know there's someone in the Duggar family that loves money more than anything else.
According to the TLC contract, from what I have heard, JB and Michelle only get screen time with their kids, in "special occasions". WTH?! This family can fabricate a "Special Occasion" on demand, with birthdays, showers, weddings, parties, on and on...it seems like JB and Michelle are front and center every single show, it is "19 Kids and Counting", just rebranded. We don't see, "He Who Must Not Be Named", I think JB tested the waters on that, and it was quashed. We also will not see the "Self Appointed Bully of Jazz", another one who will not be named or acknowledged.
Bully of Jazz?
So, how long do we think it will be until the Jabbie wedding?
Maybe John David could arrange for his house to be "uprooted" and moved to a far, far away location.
Tondo..."Bully of Jazz" being Derick, who refuses to shut up about Jazz Jennings, which I'm sure is what got him and Jill kicked off the show.
I haven't seen or heard anything from Derek re: Jazz in atleast a month or so.... let's hope he's learned his lesson and everyone can move on. Frankly I'm sick of hearing about it. Just leave well enough along.
Regardless of his age, I think it's ridiculous for John David who had never even dated to now be engaged so soon. I notice everyone of them except, Jill who was in love with someone she never met, tries to convince people that they have know each other & been friends for a number of yrs. before they bring the bride to be or groom to be, onto the show & announce that they are courting/engaged because this person has been their best friend for years. Supposedly they know each other from church functions etc. Those kids were never allowed to have a friend of the opposite sex, as long as this show has been on TV. Since some started courting at 18 they would have had to know each other from the time they were very, very young. All the time John David was running for constable & when he got his house, it was never mentioned that there was any young woman in his life. He's had his house for quite sometime now & all of a sudden he has a young woman, that he knows very well, if fact he's known her for yrs. & he loves her deeply. If he had this girlfriend why didn't he move out of the Duggar compound & start preparing for courting & engagement, before now?. What a scam these engagements & weddings are & what a shame to bring innocent babies into a family where the parents of these children barely know each other. Jim Bob & Michelle didn't bring babies into their family for almost 4 yrs. & yet they are the cheerleaders for more babies, more babies, more babies. Jim Bob has a count in his head of how many grandchildren he wants, he's talked about it for yrs. & he's hell bent that he's going to get them.
Re: So Foolish
We're being lied to. It's all about what Jimbob wants us to believe. Anything to keep up their righteous lives. It's all a joke on the viewer.
John David was just tapped to be in a courtship, engaged and soon to be married for ratings and money. One of the twin boys will be next. Jimbob will marry Jana off only when ratings hit rock bottom as a last ditch effort to save the show.
Some day I hope one of them writes a tell all so we can connect the dots.
Jabbie om gosh make me laugh
I hope Jana connects the dots and gets out and able to have a life before she is 40. That would make one heck of a story- i'd buy it.
I wonder if JB will arrange a double wedding for Jer and Jed.He might think that will up the ratings.
As far as JB getting 200 gkids,I kinda doubt it.That means each of the offspring would need to have,on average,10.5 kids.I just don't see that happening. They aren't cranking out the babies like their parents did.I suspect they won't reach 200 until they get into the great gkids stage of life
Nope. She is already the stay at home nurse for JB and Michelle when they get older. Jana has been brainwashed since birth that her role is to help others and be selfless. She has embraced this persona. People like this actually have a self centered narcissism in their vow of selflessness. I don't feel sorry for her at all, and I have no doubt that her constant chirpy Christian charity spirit can be somewhat annoying to others at times. She is so holy and perfect now.
Re:sandi' comment about Jim Bob not getting the number of grandchildren he wants. I think it's entirely possible he will get to the magic number as they keep bringing in these young fundie women who are devoted to church & family, it's all they know & of course daddy is a pastor/minister. There are more ministers in the Duggars family then I have met in my entire life. Also Jim Bob keeps repeating about the number of grandchildren he wants (actually requires) each & every time a baby is born & his kids will not let him down
That's all we need is to put the idea in Jim Bob's head about a double wedding. I'm not really sure he would have thought of that himself but desperate times call for desperate measures.
The photos are kind of cute, but it bothers me that John didn't bother to shave. He looks scruffy.
I suspect Jb has already thought of a double wedding for the twins. He isn't going to do it with John David and Jana,so maybe the next set of twins popped into his mind. He's always looking for the next thing he can exploit for $.Jmo
Jana is twins with John David, where will JB find a male "best friend for years" for Janarella? That girl will never be allowed out.
Re: Mickey 2942
Lawson Bates would be someone who's been friends with the whole clan since birth.
I am surprised Lawson is not hooked up yet. Maybe.
Mickey2942- absolutely agree with you comment about Jana. I've posted before that if she really wanted her own life, she would leave. She is not in prison. If her parents have somehow indoctrinated her to believe she can't leave, then that's her own fault for being so gullible. I've always thought she's the smartest and most capable of the bunch who apparently has many hobbies and interests. She's living the life she wants to live- otherwise she would do something different.
I hope we will be seeing more of John and Abbie soon.
Response to LizzyB - I don't necessarily agree with it being her fault for being so gullible. When you are brainwashed from the time you are born, it is very difficult to break free, especially if you are taught from a very early age that you simply CANNOT leave the house/compound unless you are married etc. These kids/adults live in FEAR of their parents because it is all they know. They have also been isolated their entire lives and don't really know how to live on their own. My heart breaks for all of them as they don't know any different.
Ginny streeter your comment I wish every free Jana believer would read
Whatever happened to the surprise engagement of John & his new very best friend Abbie, then called Abbie Grace? I thought there would be episode after episode, of them being chaperoned, planning the wedding, remembering each of them as children, seeing John's house that they will live in. They could certainly use something new in that show & right now that's all they have & they aren't even using it.
How is it that each couple falls in love very quickly. EVERY SINGLE ONE. What's the rush? Oh yeah...the ratings. Forgot about the show...er...I mean, ministry. Sigh.
I am actually looking forward to hearing and/or seeing a little of John and Abbie's wedding as it is going to be in her hometown (from what is rumored) so it may be a little different.
I absolutely agree with Ginny Streeter. Thank you, Ginny, for saying what so many of us who have studied this understand. One example of why Jana can't leave although legally JB cannot force her to stay is the analogy of a baby elephant whose leg is chained. It struggles and struggles to get free. Finally it gives up and doesn't try although it is growing everyday and at some point could easily break free.
I will say a prayer for Jana.
Reg Jana comments:
It is possible that Jana may not have a dime to her name. Yes,she has extended family but they may not feel comfortable getting involved and feel because she is an adult she should go it alone or maybe her parents said some things about her that her relatives believe or maybe her extended family feels that they are owed something. Maybe she has tried to leave and she was threatened or those who helped her were threatened. Family can be a funny thing sometimes.
I'm hoping that Jessa S. and Sierra R. are just invited guests. NOT in charge of anything. It always ends up messy, tacky and disorganized if Sierra is involved. Jessa would insist her way is the only way and John & Abby won't have the wedding they truly want.
I'm very interested in Abby's siblings. I'm hopeful that they will be front and center in the wedding and supportive of JD &Abby. Hopefully we won't see any adult Duggar women in the wedding party except Jana!
Miss Cindy seems like a lovely lady and she does a good job with the weddings, IMO. She is also really good at getting a lot of helpers, etc. The lady in charge of the cake, etc. this time seemed to do an excellent job. I do think it will be fun to see Abbie's wedding, however. I am assuming it will be done by her family in Oklahoma. It might be something a little different. Anna's wedding was a little different, good for the Keller family. If Abbie's family wants a smaller wedding, I hope they hold strong with the Duggars and get what THEY want. I am so excited about John and Abbie. They are adorable. Josie Bates is getting married this Friday so hoping for some pictures from them since both shows are on hiatus now.
If Josie Bates is also getting married this weekend won't that split the attendance for each wedding? That would show who really likes which family better, although it might come down to which wedding is closer to them.
The reason Anna had a different wedding, with plenty of food etc., was because the women from her church did the entire thing. Those ladies let her pick out any wedding cake she wanted from a cake decorating book & she picked out one of the largest in the book they show her. Her cake was huge with one large cake & bridges extending to other cakes on the side of the main cake with replicas of the groomsmen & bridesmaids. They had every type of sandwich imaginable because the women asked them what type of food they wanted & offered, finger sandwiches & so much more I can't remember. I do remember Josh saying a number of times, "if we had to pay for this ourselves it would cost a fortune." I guess the Duggars didn't kick in any cash. The women also did all the decorations, bridesmaids bouquets & Anna's bridal bouquet. In fact they did everything. The Duggars just walked in to the reception & enjoyed everyone else's work. I believe that church does this for longtime members which Anna's family was, although I'm sure most don't have a thousand guests. My church does many collations after special occasions such as Baptisms, Funerals etc.& they don't charge the family. Different groups of women in the church rotate for these occasions & & donate their time, talent & treasure. Most families that benefit from their generosity donate money to the church as a thank you. I think the Duggrs were perfectly capable of paying for the food at Josh & Anna's wedding but Josh said they didn't. Although Anna didn't get a special trip to pick out an expensive dress in another state for her ceremony, her reception was much better. I always felt badly for the ladies that worked so hard on Josh & Anna's wedding when they learned about Josh's infidelity.
I felt all the women, including the woman in charge, that worked on the wedding cake & other goodies i.e. cupcakes, were totally incompetent (I'll use that word instead of idiots)here they were full grown women & they didn't know enough to wear gloves when handling any type of food. The day that episode was shown, I had been in a small local bakery, in the afternoon after school hours, they employ high school girls probably late teens. These young girls always use gloves when they are touching any pastries. They are also careful to not touch any money & then touch any food. Now I realize the women who worked on the wedding are not professionals but any adult knows you don't touch any food that someone else is going to eat without wearing gloves. I know Lauren's family should be responsible for the reception but these days it's common for both families to contribute to the cost of the reception. In the case of all Duggar weddings you get what you pay for.
I couldn't believe John saying he just walked into the Duggar home one day with Abbie & said, "this is my girlfriend." It's always been a big deal that viewers hear there is someone in one of the young adults lives that has been a family friend for yrs. Now that friend has become more than a friend. Then they go through the steps of asking the father for permission to court, they court, then there's asking for permission to become engaged, etc. When has any member of the family just walked into the house with a girl or guy & announced this is my girlfriend or boyfriend? I'm happy for John & Abbie, although I did notice that Abbie said, as a nurse she enjoys working with geriatrics, maybe that will let Jana off the hook & Abbie will take care of Jim Bob & Michelle in their old age.
I truly believe that 'hey this is my girlfriend' bit was for the TLC viewing audience. John David absolutely had to follow Jim Bob's rules of courtship too. They already knew those two were a couple. It was acting on their part. John introduced Abbie to the viewing audience, not his family during that scene. He also had to discuss his 'feelings' with JB before he could approach Abbie's father. Business as usual here, folks.
Elspeth, am I right?
Re: Aunt Bea's comment about John announcing that Abbie was his girlfriend. I totally agree, it was for the viewing audience. Just like the wedding marathon was set up for the viewing audience to take the publicity off of the Josh scandal. I believe Jim Bob would marry off Hannie & Jackson if he could get away with it. As soon as John's wedding is over, watch for both twins to each start suddenly courting their very best friend, that we have never seen or heard about before. Then there will definitely be the big double wedding. These people don't even have enough imagination to come up with something new. It's weddings & babies & weddings & babies & repeat over & over again.
Brenda I agree with your comment out Jana & the analogy of the baby elephant who cannot leave even though free, because he has been chained for so many yrs. Did anyone see Elisabeth Smart recently on TV, where she spoke in detail about how people thought she was a victim of Stockholm Syndrome but she absolutely denied this. She said when you have been help captive for so long & have been severely threatened in various ways, especially your entire families well being, it just doesn't matter if you are set free & there's a policeman standing in front of you asking your name, you won't give your name or try to leave. You are just totally brainwashed. Something or someone is holding Jana captive & we should feel sorry for her instead of criticizing her for not pulling herself up by the bootstraps & getting away from Duggaarville & her servant duties there.
What's happening, thank you. I will say a prayer for Jana to be able to get free. Jinger's father-in-law helps those who gave been brainwashed, doesn't he? Maybe he cab help reach her via Jinger and Jeremy.
I see each of you guys point of view.
The thing that sets the Bates apart from the Duggars;
Is the Fact they can sort of date the person of their choosing.
They get to be with them and then call a courtship, engagement and then marriage.
And remember Zack And Nate called off their courtships when it seeem it wasn't working out.
Micheala waited 5 years for Brandon.
Josie had to wait for Kelton cause Gil and Kelly Bates felt they were too young.
It seems like a more relaxed from the Bates Compound.
Really? I cook and bake for people all the time, and I don’t wear gloves. I do wash my hands often.
I cook & bake for people all the time too but the people I cook & bake for are my immediate family. I don't believe the comments made about not wearing gloves pertained to cooking & baking for your own immediate family, I believe it had to do with the fact that the food that was prepared was for the wedding reception which supposedly had 1,000 guests. It was the fact that all these guests would be eating this food that was prepared by women who didn't wear glove & were not shown washing their hands. Very seldom if ever, do they show anyone washing their hands while cooking or baking, including the little kids cooking in the Duggar home.
Any reports of the stink-bus heading to OK for John-David’s wedding ????
I saw the article link for Peoples and honestly it took me a moment to realize it was John and Abby.
Is it just me, or are all the weddings the same? Same colour of suit/tux. Same style dress/hair/veil. Same church background/decorations?
Not a Mocker said;
I agree with you.
Everything is the same!!
I thought it was going to be different cause Abby lived someplace else.
And a slight older bride.
But sadly no.
Ugh. Well crap. Abbie is moving to Arkansas. I had so much hope for them . What a waste.
So it looks like John David will likely win his reelection as constable.
What was Mechelle thinking wearing a plaid flannel shirt tied at the waste to her son’s wedding??? Omg. And that baby voice and insincere happiness is nauseating. Just go away.
So...I guess John and Abbie WALKED down the aisle? How dignified...I hope he didn't carry her...I hope they didn't run. Anyone know?
looks like John David will likely win his reelection as constable
While I'm glad he's doing SOMETHING other than sitting around the house, for those who are unfamiliar with the constable role in Ark, here's the skinny: They don't have to have ANY training unless they want to be certified, which allows them to make traffic stops and arrest people. They are "on call," so they don't have regular hours, but can patrol on their own schedules, or when asked to do so by local law enforcement. Although constables are elected officials, most are not paid. In fact, they pay for their training, uniforms, equipment, and all other expenses. MANY of them are retired law enforcement officers, although as JD proves, you don't have to have any law enforcement background or training if you're willing to pony up the money and convince enough people to vote for you.
Curious to know if John David flies them to their honeymoon destination. Will they live in the house he already owns? So quiet out there.
Not something I normally read, but when you're waiting in the Dr.'s office & forgot your book, etc. you'll pretty much pick up any magazine, actually just any reading material & pursue thru it. So I ended up reading in US Weekly that John David & Abbie, "had known each other for YEARS but never met in person, until earlier this yr. when John attended church in OK." They married following a 3 month engagement, which of course followed the obligatory, 1 month of courting.
Am I the only one who finds the sentence; known each other for "YEARS" but only met in person for the first time earlier this yr. ridiculous? How can you "know" someone well for years, although you have never even met or spoken to them in person? Of course, I guess that was the case with Jill & Derick." Remember Jill's famous statement,"I'm in love with someone I've never even met." They appear to be running low on ideas for the ministry. Since we never see any available young women or young men visiting the Duggar home & certainly no dating allowed, I'm sure the next announcement of a courting or engagement will be very similar & most likely one of the twin boys, or possible both of them. Jim Bob we've already thought of that scenario, so that won't even be a surprise.
They may have known "OF" each other for years, but have never met. They obviously met recently. JD and Abbie just met; they were really strangers to each other. This family needs to proof read their own statements to see if they make sense.
I watched the TLC clip of John and Abbie's wedding. I didn't want to like it but I did! Abbie seems to truly care for John and aeven though they have not known each other long they are much older than the last few who married and that really showed. They were both very calm and steady in the clips shown. I loved their handwritten vows - especially her "I'll fly where you fly" They seem to have taken their short courtship/engagement to get to know and appreciate each other far more than the younger couples. -- Also, did any one else notice that there is zero spark between Josiah and Lauren? Gone are the googlie eyes and giggles.
I really liked Abbie's dress. I still don't get the Father of the Bride having to marry the couple. How is everyone a preacher? Totally agree about Josiah and Lauren, she's dead in the eyes. And now completely trapped. I hope all these couples are happy but I don't see any spark or chemistry with Josiah and Lauren.
I’m regards to Josiah and Lauren, well when the the thing you like most about your girlfriend/wife is that she’s “just like my mom” I guess there isn’t any spark. Josiah saying that was cringeworthy.
Regarding John: he’s in love and I’m happy for him. That’s what it should be like and it’s not like when the Duggar girls have a crush on their boyfriends. He waited, didn’t let Jimbob pressure him and when he said his bachelor days were over real quick after reconnecting with Abby that’s when you really fall in love. Good for him.
I’m on the fence about the kiss. I’ll have to watch for clues like if they say “our first kiss as a married couple at the wedding “ etc comments like that
Yes, the daddy performing the ceremony just seems a little too familiar. I’m surprised Jimbob hasn’t wanted to do that with his daughters.
I was really, really glad to see John and the groomsmen wearing tuxedos, that’s a first for a Duggar wedding.
The difference in age is what’s at play here — John David is 28; his siblings have been between 20-23 at marriage. The maturity thing is real. It was delightful to watch. I didn’t like when they made the comment about John David trying to have more children than daddy. He probably said no such thing, and him bob hates being undercut in any way.
Watched the wedding last night. The most cringeworthy/creepy moment for me is when John David was told to kiss the bride, he started kissing her hand/body before he actually kissed her lips. That should have been saved for when they were alone in a room. An almost 29 year old man kind of embarrassed himself up at the altar. There was nothing normal or cute about it.
Does anyone really believe that this couple actually knows each other after courting for 2 months? How could JOhn David and Abbie have kept their texting and meetings a secret when they are accountable to their parents for time like this? Didn't JOhn have to ask her father for permission to communicate with her? Didn't John also have to keep his parents in the loop? Why didn't they address this as they went out of their way explaining their courtship rules to us out here in heathenland? Not buying it. Their story is 'modified' for the viewing audience, IMO.
Oh my word, YES Jak&Jill!!! I thought the same thing about the kisses! At first I thought he was just going to kiss her hand and then go down the aisle for a private first kiss like Jessa and Ben but then it just got really weird. I cannot imagine being at a wedding and that happening. Poor Abby! How intimate and embarassing to share! :(
The first kiss was cringeworthy.I don't think JD knew enough about sex to realize it was, let's just say, foreplay. Not that his father would have taught him any better, given his mini golf antics. He's all for whatever brings in the ratings, imo
You guys hes just being his father's son. Poor guy doesnt know any better. Poor guy has probably never been happier in his life, now he gets more freedom. I'm going to overlook his weirdness with the kiss because i like him, Jana and jinger, although I feel like jinger is still a sheep under a different clothing, the most.
Not only that but he was the next sheep in line to be herded up on the stage for ratings and money.
I feel the most sorry for Jordan Jenny and Johanna. I feel the most scared for the twins, as their lives are the next to be forced into an arranged marriage. I have the most disgust for josh, a narcissist with no shame, just like his dad.
I shake my head the most at jessa and jill, misguided bumpkins. The rest, enh, I'm bored and my coffee is getting cold.
