Does anyone remember if Jana Duggar or Jessa Seward passed the GED test? I saw it posted that Josh, John David, Jill and Jinger took and passed the test. I wonder if they realize it’s never too late to study and take the test?

Wynonna said...

Oh, Jill. I can’t believe you posted the BBQ Tuna recipe thinking it would be a hit with your fans or Joe-public. You really need a PR image coach. You’re either really desperate for any attention or you’re completely oblivious to how the internet works. Seriously, what were you thinking?

Emma said...

I sometimes wonder if Derick posts some of this crap because he knows the reaction its going to get, I think he enjoys stirring the pot. I remember the episode where JB made this and most of the kids wouldn't touch it, so why post it as Pops BBQ tuna making it sound like a legit recipe, they really must be desperate for attention!

sandi said...

I think JIll is too afraid of mice to go into the kitchen much! LOL!
Seriously, she should conquer her fears by going to the pet store and getting a mouse or rat for a pet.Once she sees how cute and smart they are,she won't fear them any more.
Either that,or get a cat.But I'm not counting on the Duggars learning anything

Mickey2942 said...

This entire family is too self centered for the responsibility of taking care of a pet. Animals need care, training, and stability. I haven't watched the show in years, didn't they have a dog, and it just "disappeared"? Didn't seem like anyone cared much.

Ginny said...

Mickey2942......I believe I remember them having a dog for a short time, and also a couple of kittens once. I was always surprised that, with all of the land they are sitting on and all of the kids that they have never had animals. I think you hit the nail on the head though......it takes time and commitment to have animals. I am an animal lover, and the one thing that I see with this family, is really how detached they are. It started with the parents and has trickled down. I don't see a deep level of compassion and passion for even their relationship with people....and there is a part of me that feels like these kids don't (or can't) really get attached to animals. They don't necessarily know how. I've even watched as the girls have become mothers. From my perspective, it has taken each one of the Dugger girls time to learn to REALLY love their babies.......and bond with them. Anna was a different story. I always felt that even though she was raised in the same religion, her ability to bond on a deep level with her babies was there from the beginning. I do think I have seen a bit of that with Jinger, but she and Jeremy waited a little while to have their baby......and she seemed just more mature and ready to become a mom. I know I kind of veered off "topic" a bit......but what I'm trying to say is that essentially, these "kids" (now adults), never really learned how to bond, love etc. on a deep level, because their parents never taught them compassion, empathy, passion (really for anything except the RULES of their church).

Mia said...

I agree that the Duggars are detached. One thing I have noticed is that in some of these extra large families, they enjoy being by themselves and doing things with family only. I do not know if it's because it is too expensive to have friends over but it starts to seem selfish after awhile. They just sort of keep to themselves.

Only asking said...

Doesn't anyone else find it strange that Jill is so afraid of a mouse when she lived is a foreign country, in the middle of the jungle, while they did missionary work, with all the various types of critters that certainly must have made their way into her home, at least occasionally?

sandi said...

Mickey,I say that tongue in cheek.I don't think the Dillards will really get a pet.Much less a mouse.
I recall one of the younger girls also had a guinea pig

Remembering said...

I also remember the time the Duggars had all the kittens, many more than two. I believe the younger kids found the kittens in the big home they were all renovating, the house Jill & Derick lived in for a short time, before they left to do their missionary work. We haven't seen that house again since they moved out. Back to the kittens. The kids brought all of them home to Michele. They were so small they needed to be bottle feed & she promised they could keep all of them if they took care of them. We haven't seen the kittens since that episode either.

I was wondering if they have ever shown any of the Duggar kids or the grandchildren being Baptized, or as in some churches the children being "Dedicated." A ceremony very similar to a Baptism? The Duggars claim to be Baptist & I know that in some Baptist churches, the Baptism takes place when they are teens. I attended my best friends Baptism when we were teenagers. That would certainly make a good episode, the entire family gathered for this type of ceremony, instead of the usual wedding ceremony. I was amazed that no religious ceremony, either for Baptism or Dedication, or just some sort of Blessing by a real minister instead of Jim Bob & Michelle just praying over the baby, was ever shown for Josie, when she was such a micro preemie. As a nurse I've seen babies either Christened or Baptized in the NCIU, when they were so frail & that the outcome for their lives was uncertain. I've never seen the Duggars even have a religious ceremony for even naming their child. Does anyone know their beliefs on this? I do remember Jim Bob Baptizing Amy & being Baptized again himself, in the water in Israel that was full of rats. However the entire family was not baptized then & it was not a serious religious ceremony just Jim Bob showing off that he could Baptize Amy himself. I never understood why he wanted to be Baptized again himself. I thought all churches believed one Baptism was enough.

sandi said...

I think Jb baptized Amy in the Jordan river on their trip to Israel.I guess that was just for the show.
Yes,that would make for a good episode;the Little Couple did that with their kids, albeit they are Catholic, which the Duggars disapprove of

double bubble said...

If the Duggars are all for continuous pregnancies and babies, would they feel the same about cats or dogs in their care or would they have them spayed and neutered?

Mickey2942 said...

The Duggars seem to make up their Cherry Pick Christian religion based on whim or idea for show at will. Don't expect it to make any sense or actually be based in any reality. Ironically, for "reality tv ".

Cindi said...

re:sandi's comment You are absolutely correct the only Baptism I have seen was the one in the river Jordan, which I'm sure was for the show. I know others have said thy have seen Baptisms but I have watched the show since it started & have never seen anyone but Amy be baptized unless you count Jim Bob being baptized for a second time. Which I didn't think was appropriate. I thought you were only baptized once. Just Jim Bob showing off

Agree said...

Re:sandi's comment The Little Couple has more class than the Duggars. I don't care what church anyone is baptized in, the important thing is the that the children were Christened or Baptized. If my micro preemie was as ill as Josie was, I would have had her Baptized.

Emma said...

I don't think the Duggars believe in infant baptisim. Their church only baptises you when you are ready to make that decision for yourself (or JB says your ready). They also seem to baptise more than once, which is really strange to me, surely if you are baptised once you are 'saved' and that should be it (Josh must be permanently soggy!!), maybe they see it like re doing your marriage vows? I also find it strange that none of the Duggar girls has a biblical name but all the boys with exception of Jackson and Justin do (their is a saint Justin but that wouldn't fly with the Duggars!), I suppose there were no J girls names in the bible, but then its ridiculous to give all 19 of your kids the same initial.

Emma said...

Remembering: The house Jill and Derick lived in after they got married was sold by Jimbob, they just lived in it as 'caretakers' until it was sold. Don't forget Jillymuffin was Daddies favourite at that time so they got the big house and Jessa got a shoebox! The Dillards moved into the big house with the pool that Jimbob owns after they came back from El Salvador but moved out saying the rent was too steep. Josiah and Lauren did something similar when they got married, they moved into a Jimbob owned mansion of a place which needed doing up, (Lauren seemed a bit creeped out by it), but they said recently on instagram that they are now renting somewhere smaller.

Aunt Bea said...

Jim Bob Duggar is not a bona fide minister. Therefore, he has no authority to baptize anyone. Their 'baptisms' by him in the Jordan River or not are not valid Christian baptisms.

Willow said...

Seems like I remember Jill posting pics on Instagram of one of their babies being "dedicated" at the Cross Church. The pics were taken outside of the church. I think Erin and Chad Paine mentioned that one of their babies was "dedicated" but I don't remember for sure if there were any pictures.

Something is brewing with Jana. First, the new social media presence. Then, Laura DeMaise moves out and accepts a job in a different state. Now, Jana, Jimboob and Mechelle went to Laredo to visit the Vuluo’s. I predict we have a courtship in the making. Just my gut feeling.

I’m calling it that Lauren is pregnant. Josiah’s Amazon account wishlist has prenatal vitamins and a nursery rocking chair listed.

Abbie said...

You’d think once the single Duggar adult males realize if they get married, they get a clean house with actual meals cooked and clean clothes and bedding to sleep on. You’d think there’d be a mass exodus out of the stink house in Tontitown.

I’m thinking Jessa, Lauren and Abbie are all preggers. Now, just for Jill, Joy, Kendra, and Anna to get baby-on-board, zJimbob will have ratings gold!

Donald: There is a LOT of speculation that Lauren has had a miscarriage. In the latest promo for the show they are shown telling the family something and there are hugs all round then it cuts to Lauren obviously distressed and sitting on her own and the producer asks 'so what happened?'. Someone on another site said they had watched the episode on preview and confirmed that Lauren and Josiah were going to tell the family she was expecting. Its so heartbreaking to loose a pregnancy and a first one too. Lauren is so young so for TLC to use this as a cliffhanger promo is beyond disgusting and for the family (JB and Josiah are the people I would point fingers at here) to allow it is just beyond horrible, this is a new low for them, although they milked Annas hurt over Josh for all it was worth too, so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.

Heart in Florida said...

Jinger's parents and Jana were in Laredo because Jeremy got a new church location. So many empty seats in the photo they provided.

June said...

Josiah and Lauren released a video statement today that she was pregnant but has miscarried.

Ellie On a Roll said...

It was disclosed today that Lauren had a miscarriage. I’m sorry to hear that. However, the Duggar’s have a tendency to take advantage of a situation for ratings. Do we really need to know exactly what happened when Lauren went into the bathroom and sat on the toilet? No. TMI. I can’t help but think back to the toilet birth of one of Anna’s babies. The minute these teenagers get married, they are exploited by Jimbob at every opportunity. Time to boycott Counting On.

Sunday said...

ellie on a roll--yes, JimBob and Josiah are both exploiting Lauren's unfortunate miscarriage for ratings. It is shameless and I am boycotting Counting On.

Sue Sue Heck said...

Let’s hope it’s announced that Jana Duggar is courting Chuck Vuolo. Ratings gold

HistorianMom said...

Aunt Bea, Some Christian denominations believe that any believer can baptize another. Even the Catholics allow midwives to do emergency baptisms when they deliver babies that might not make it until a priest arrives.

HistorianMom said...

I actually think it was brave of Lauren to talk about her miscarriage. Many women feel alone after a miscarriage, and some women find that talking about the loss helps and makes the baby seem real. I would like to think that no one is exploiting the tragedy by forcing her to go on camera and talk about it.

Danielle said...

I’m glad they announced the miscarriage. Too many people were harping on them to get pregnant, and they were a nice glimmer of support for those of us who’ve lost babies.

Mickey2942 said...

Gee, Lauren had a miscarriage, score! Ratings gold! Will they name the baby? Have a funeral?

It is tragic and heartbreaking that this young family is being so ruthlessly exploited. Lauren has so much more value than to be treated like her only status is pregnancy. Or miscarriage. It is the most callous abuse of women ever.

Mindi said...

Re: Donald's comment about all the married couples expecting babies at the same time would be ratings gold. I don't think so, as all that would be is repeating the mass pregnancies that we've seen ever since the first Duggar young woman was auctioned off for marriage to increase ratings. All you need to do is change the names of the coupes that are expecting, otherwise it's the same old same old.It also took a little pressure off the Duggars dealing with the Josh scandal. I agree with Ellie on a Roll, enough is enough, time to boycott Counting On. After all that show has been used to bring in the dollars ever since 19 Kids & Counting was cancelled by TLC. They have had a better run with that than they deserved considering everyone knows what the episode is going to be about as they have already seen most of it, or they have read about it in People.

Very sad said...

I agree that using Lauren's miscarriage as a cliffhanger definitely has Jim Bob & Josiah fingerprints all over it. I don't think Jim Bob is a very loving & devoted father-in -law or father for that matter. It's all about what will bring in the money & keep the show on. That show is way past anything interesting. It's strictly about pregnancies & weddings, occasionally with gender reveals thrown in, nothing about the younger kids. Are they still being homeschooled & if so by who? Is that strictly Jana's job? Has Michelle retired as the teacher of TSOTDRT?

Another Nurse said...

Historian Mom is correct about some denominations believing that any believer can baptize a baby. I know, in the NICU a nurse can baptize a baby, in an emergency situation, at the request of the baby's parents.

Aunt Bea said...

Michelle has 'retired' from everything a mother is supposed to do a long time ago.

Not my religion said...

Jimboob just posted his Valentines Love letter to Mechelle. Seriously, who wants to read that and what would possess him to think we want to read it????? Get over yourself!!! You disgust us. You both are a bad example. Go away, please.

Ginny said...

Not My Religion - I have always struggled with their "shows"......the birthday videos, congratulatory pregnancy announcement videos, videos of each family member congratulating another for an engagement the letters posted etc. Those are personal.......between two married couples......or between family members, kids etc. The whole world doesn't need to see all of that. I have always felt these were for show, and to just keep themselves out in the public eye. What is think is really interesting is that whey the show was in it's "hey day".....we didn't see this type of stuff. Interesting....

Mickey2942 said...

Ditto. JimBob is creepy.

TT said...

Surprised no one has mentioned that Josie Bates is pregnant.

Ginny said...

TT - I saw the announcement that Josie is pregnant as well. What crossed my mind is that the Bates girls seems to be drinking the "we HAVE to get pregnant right away" Koolaid even more than the Dugger kids. At times, they seem more "normalized", but then there are times when we realize that they are just as much controlled by the brainwashing of this religion as the Duggers are.

Ervine said...

Oops posted my comment about Josie Bates Balka in the wrong place. Love most of the Bates but Josie is so immature, too into herself, showing off all the time and the way she talks....UGH!

Not my religion said...

I’m going to call it. Anna’s expecting.

Andrea said...

I honestly believe the Bates are actually better more involved parents than Dim Bulb and Me’chelle therefore their children are more interested in continuing in the faith, having oodles of children, homeschool, etc. That said, odd that all the girls now appear to wear jeans.

Emma said...

Three of the Duggar sisters have recently been promoting an online grocery company called Thrive Market. Jinger started the ball rolling then Joy and lastly Jessa all promoting it on their instagram pages. Today I read that after people contacted the company they have decided not to continue doing business with the sisters/family. I have mixed feelings about it, on one hand I understand that the Duggars religious and political views mean they ruffle feathers and people hate to see them promoting goods/services for companies with a very different ethos. On the other hand I feel these young women have been in the spotlight most of their lives and with no other skills to earn a living they are taking the offers to promote things that are put in front of them, and are using their 'fame' to their own families advantage and who could blame them? Jill had the same thing happen to her with the fab fit fun box company, their name still seems to be toxic, just wondering what others think of it?

Not a Mocker said...

I wonder what would happen if one of the Duggar’s started courting someone who had no interest in being on the show. Like didn’t want to at all. No courting videos. No wedding special, no camera crew chaperones honeymoon, no episodes on their pregnancy and birth. Like they wanted to be with the Duggar person but not the Duggar TV show

Who Knows? said...

I hate to think of any young woman Lauren's age having to make an announcement to the entire Duggar famiy that she was pregnant but has miscarried. I don't believe anyone in the family truly cares about her feelings & that goes for Josiah. As far as the Duggars are concerned it's, oh too bad, just try again but make it soon, we need something of interest for the show. Lauren just seems so young to me, she may not be any younger that any of the other Duggar brides were but there's something fragile about her & I feel bad for her. I do hope that Jim Bob & Josiah are not using this for PR purposes.

Mia said...

Emma, I found that interesting, too. I guess the Duggar name makes some people/companies nervous. Still, there could be other factors. Jessa and Ben, for instance, don't appear to work for a living so maybe this isn't in line with what a company like Thrive wants to portray? Not sure. I would also like to know what others think. At any rate, it seems to be getting harder for many of them to earn a living.

Mommy in PA said...

Not a Mocker - I highly doubt JimBob would even approve any courtship with someone who refused to be on the show.

Enough of this circus said...

As far as these Duggar’s being such good Christians and being so religious, when was the last time we saw them doing anything Christian like? (besides Jeremy & Jinger and Jill & Derek)

Attend a church service?
Help the needy?
Study from the Bible or even display a bible? Attend a study group or circle? Help out in the church kitchen?
Encourage anyone? They don’t seem to even encourage each other let alone anyone outside the “family”.
Invite their neighbors over for a bbq, coffee or a bonfire?
When was the last time you saw or even heard of Jim Bob or Michelle leading a youth group or class that did include their own?

It appears their “religion “ is about sex, control, reproducing, gaming the system for money, covering up the truth, and gifting. We can see right through this, Jimbob, Michelle and TLC.

Sunny days said...

Just what makes Ben qualified to tutor the young Duggar kids? As far as we know he's not college educated but of course the Duggars never had anyone that was truly qualified to teach or tutor their kids. Michelle & Jim Bob themselves have a terrible command of the English Language. Jim Bob constantly says "Michelle & me" instead of Michelle & I. It's like chalk on a blackboard. It's one of the easiest rules in the English language. If you say Michelle & me went to the store (or wherever)simply remove the word Michelle from your sentence & you then have, me went to the store, not I went to the store. Jim Bob has never been able to figure this one out.

Enough already said...

I agree that Lauren should not have to make any announcement to the family or anyone else regarding her miscarriage, if they don't already know she's pregnant.I know many women who have suffered a miscarriage who have chosen to keep that information to themselves. Of course the Duggar family is so focused on these pregnancies it's ridiculous. They are not focused on the pregnancy because of there will soon be a beautiful new baby but because of the ratings for their TV show, as well as Jim Bob's obsession for 200 grandchildren.

To Tell The Truth said...

Re: Comments from, Enough of this circus. All the good Christian deeds mentioned were originally the basis for the Ministry/show, until the truth eventually came out.

Ginny said...

Sunny Days - Ben does have a two year degree and I am NOT a Duggar fan, but I am going to throw this out there. I know many, many, many people who are not college educated who have done an amazing job of homeschooling their kids, and/or tutored others in certain subjects.

On May 16, 2015, Ben graduated from National Park College with an associate's degree in political science. After graduating, Ben began studying with the intention of going to seminary. (from his fundamentalist wiki page)

I am almost 60 and Ben's dad is 15 years younger then me but Ben and my son are the same age.Guess being young married and parents run in the Seewald family.

Sunny Days said...

RE:Ginny Streeter's comments about homeschooling. I absolutely agree with you that you don't need a college degree to homeschool your children. However, I feel that the Duggars in particular, have never cared who taught their kids as long as the job didn't fall to the parents. It seemed they were constantly bringing in various family friends that nobody knew a thing about & turning their children over to whoever would do the job. I really do apologize for not knowing that Ben was so educated. What does he do for a living with his education? Of course, I know Derick has a college degree & so far has not settled into a job to support his family. I think Anna appears to be working at homeschooling her children, but when they showed her, she had all 5 of them together homeschooling them, one was an infant. It reminded me of when Michelle would have every age & stage at the SOTDRT.

Just asking said...

Ben graduated from National Park College in 2015. That college was only established in 2003, so it was a very new college. From the courses listed, I'm not sure why he chose that particular college. Did he do the online college experience or actually attend classes with other students? I don't know anything about his college experience..

Heart in Florida said...

A man like Ben needs to be employed with a real job and career path; whatever it is, not homeschooling his child-sisters-in-law. It needs to get real soon. He will have 3 children of his own to take are of soon.

Willow said...

Ben does have an AA degree. There have also been rumors for years that he is taking online classes from Moody Bible College. No info, that I have heard, of him finishing anything, or having any regular job other than "Jim Bob". I really do not understand the thinking that went into Ben being a tutor for the kids. Its very weird to me. Are there no jobs to be had in NW Arkansas?

Emma said...

I wonder if the Duggar girls will bring their own children to the "Big House' to have them tutored when they reach school age? Did Michelle or JimBob graduate from high school, it baffles me that people with such a low level of education can be allowed to homeschool their own kids, its like the blind leading the blind. Ben does have a level of education well above anything any Duggar has ever achived, so it must be an improvement in one way, and its a big step up for him from cleaning toilets and cutting grass! I read on another forum someone said Anna had a degree in education which isn't true, I remember some mention of an online course she took in childrens education but she does not have a degree or any qualification which makes her a teacher. The Duggar children were all fail educationally and its sad to think of another generation being failed too. I think Felicity is the only one who will get a good education as I don't think Jeremy would allow her to not attend school.

Melrose said...

Anna finished a four year online degree program in something like Christian education from a non-accredited school.

Question said...

National Park College which is an associates degree program, appears to be a technical school. If you look it up, every picture shown on their site is of auto mechanics, Licensed Practical nurses, etc. Certainly good skills to earn a living. I am just wondering why he would go to a school like that, if his interest was in the ministry?

Another Question said...

I have no problem with taking some online courses, however you get so much more out of college, or any school when you have socialization, students debating each other or just discussing various issues, making new friends etc. How is that done over the internet?

Aunt Bea said...

I agree with the assessment of the educational future of these children being homeschooled. I'm not so quick to assume that Felicity will attend a school either. Remember, Jeremy's beliefs are horrible. Perhaps he would opt to choose a better homeschool curriculum for HIS children, but Jinger will be woefully underqualified to 'teach it'. Time will tell.

Linda said...

National Park is a state community college and offers all the normal CC classes and is a fine way for many people to get the first two years of foundational classes done.

LilBit0318 said...

Good Lord! I just watched this weeks “Bringing Up Bates”, and their command of the English language is no better than the Duggars’ at all! Lawson—a grown man who’s supposedly graduated—tried to us the word epitome in a sentence, and pronounced it “ep-uh-TOME” rather than “e-PIT-uh-me”. Yup...Fine job homeschooling there, y’all!

Emma said...

Melrose: Annas 'degree' is probably worth as much as Jills midwifery certificate, it would not be accepted in any school to allow her to teach, in the same way no hospital would ever hire Jill. Another 'fundie degree' from a non accredited online college qualifies her for nothing in the real world, although it does give her a head start on Michelle, so hopefully the little Ms might stand a chance of a better education than their aunts and uncles!

Mickey2942 said...

Michelle is so childlike and naive. She explains that education is not needed, that her children are all going to be self employed, or learn skills through "internships". Okay. Not docking self employment, my husband was self employed for 35 years as an architect. But he went to school for this. He was not literally prevented from attending college.

The Duggars put down higher education, because they don't value education.

Heart in Florida said...

Yes, LilBIt0318: I notice Lawson's incorrect pronunciation of epitome right away also.
Really, an "ep-uh-TOME'...this is from an adult in his later 20s whose family gloats about their superior homeschooling curriculum? I think this speaks volumes about it.

roddma said...

Not starting a religious debate but I grew up in a sect that didn't baptize infants. I'm not really religious anymore but wouldn't baptize an infant anyway while not forbidden, there is no mention of in the Bible. The idea is babies don't know right from wrong or anything about 'accepting Jesus'..

As for Jill being scared of normal sounds in Central America, I gather things are pretty rough according to those who lived there so I don't see giving her a hard time for that. But still they chose to go .

Snow Days said...

The Duggar family constantly talked about Anna having a college degree & being a teacher, when she first came into the family. You would have thought she graduated from Harvard, or some other Ivy League college. However in truth, her education was exactly as Melrose wrote in her comments; a four yr. online degree in; "Christian Education," from a non-accredited school. People apparently don't realize that these "degrees" only allow people to teach "Christian Education," from booklets like the ones Michelle was so proud of. Michelle is worse than childlike & naïve, she along with J. B. have deliberately tried to keep their children uneducated, because they don't want their children to have any more education than they do, apparently because they might possibly start to question their parent's beliefs. Don't they realize that your children will eventually learn more than you have taught them in your own home? There's a lot more to be learned than what can be learned just by internships with their father. I am not putting down internships either.I know many plumbers, electricians etc. who have learned most of their skill from their own father but they have still attended a technical school of some type & have a degree or certification in whatever they studied & I'm very happy to see them show up at my home when I need them. The Duggar kids who have worked with J.B. in all these housing renovations, may have some level of skill in certain areas, but they don't any licenses or certification. If they do work in someone else's home & there's a fire etc. the insurance co. won't pay a dime. My dad owned rental property & although he could do quite a bit of work needed, he had to hire licensed people, so there would never be any insurance problems, when something went wrong. There's a big world out there & the Duggars have exposed their children to it, by putting them on TV & in the public eye. They cannot go back & have children who eventually become adults, & live the rest of their lives with only the knowledge they received at the SOTDRT. You can't stop your children from growing up.
