Wow, another cake tasting. Booorrrrrriiiinnnnnggggggg. The only exciting event in this family at the moment is waiting for Dillard's next wacko posting.

Opie said...

Or hearing about Joe's 3 second time limit on side hugs. So ridiculous!

Dusty said...

What is that.....? Joe allowed only 3 seconds for a side huge. Was that a control thing directed at a more affectionate Kendra? This guy could be screaming NIKE on his wedding night. LOL These Duggar kids have warped minds. How in the world can he go from a 3 second side hug to baby making during his honeymoon??

Ruby said...

Opie, really? You're joking, right? 3 second limit?

Mousechester said...

Is that really the title of the episode..Let Them Eat Cake?! How appropriate considering Joy's hateful attitude toward the prospective guests at Jinger's wedding..to the tune of, this is what we're serving, so if they're expecting something else, Too Bad.

Opie said...

One of his rules when they were courting.

3 second side hugs LMAO
I don't think he actually likes her. He's doing what he's told and being a good god and Jim Bob fearing boy. His is his life, being with someone he could care else about, just like his older brother but unlike Josh look like Joe is scared of anything sexual, Nike must have been burned into his head

Gerti said...

When a young man, or any age man, is in love with a woman, he does not put restrictions on affection. People can decide to postpone sex until marriage, but telling the girl she may only hug you for 3 seconds show he fears any sexual feelings. I cannot see how this will change immediately upon the wedding night. It seems as if he would have strict rules regarding making love in marriage. I sure hope I am wrong and smiling, innocent happy Kendra is not put under some weird control by her husband..

Mickey2942 said...

I wonder how he was affected by the behavior of Josh. The Duggars may have really repressed their sons, in fear they would act like Josh.

Jonina said...

When the message "Sex before marriage is bad." is pounded into your head on all fronts -- church, home & Christian school chapel times, it often gets condensed down to "Sex is bad." A person is made to feel guilty for perfectly natural urges --even with their spouse. As socially-stunted kids, these two "adults" are ill-prepared for marriage. Joe has been trained by a narcissist who gets what he wants when he wants it. Kendra has been trained to stay sweet and do whatever it takes to please her master, umm, I mean headship. Children learn by example.

Tori said...

Mousechester: I have noticed before that Joy has quite the haughty attitude at times, infact I think that some of the duggars think they are a cut above the great unwashed public, so I am not surprised. Remember who said those words and what happened, the ratings were not very good for the opening episode, fans are fed up with the way TLC is airing the weddings first and then going back to the prep, then showing the wedding again. I think it is only a matter of time before the show gets the chop!

Auggie said...

I think the 3 second hug is about both of them following their Dads' rules. They say they made the decision, but we know who leads them into these decisions. They've also been taught they need round the clock chaperones because they can't control their urges. A 10 second hug might get those urges stirred up!!!! Only once they're engaged do they get to hold hands, because at that time they only have three months to wait until they can......drum role.....KISS! (& then satisfy their urges like rabbits)

Captain Crunch said...

I couldn't stop laughing when Joe and Kendra stated that 'they are limiting thier side hugs to just two a day, one in the morning and one in the evening'. Kendra's giggle is as weird sounding as Jessa's.
And shock!! JillyMuffin was actually wearing pants (heavens to Murgatroyd) when they showed the happy dipstick couple down in Central America.

Lizzyb said...

Some takeaways from this episode: Joy seems very immature and too young to be getting married. Jinger and Jeremy seem to be happily married and are not anxious to get tied down with kids right away. Kendra is just adorable- can't help but like her as she is always smiling and seems so sweet and really loves Joe. I think that Jessa is happy but Ben doesn't have a lot to say these days- wonder if he is feeling trapped and tied down with 2 small children at such a young age? I like Austin but I think he has his hands full with Joy. Jill and Derick are always boring to me.

Andrea said...

Didn't watch the show but did read this: "In Central America, "mid-husband" Derick helps Jill, who is in her second trimester, listen to Samuel's heartbeat." Is this for real? The extent of her prenatal care was her husband listening for the babies heart beat? I live in Canada, if you turned up to the hospital and had not had any prenatal care Child Protective Services would be called. I'm not joking. To even suggest, that was her prenatal care is entire irresponsible of TLC / Discovery. Total madness.

I've been reading this blog for ages and finally decided to join the thoughtful posters here for one reason specifically...knowing how the "couch sessions" are filmed post-production (I'm in the media world), I re-watched a few times, Jill's comments about being back in the states and being home for the birth in case, as I summarize, that something would happen. If you're a reader of facial expressions, look at Jill's demeanor become stilted while still smiling at the end. I'm not one to add to birthing speculations, but her projected expression wasn't lost on me. Also not lost one me are all of the shows and after-specials the past couple of months, this episode included, before Joe and Kendra got married, that Joe checks out Kendra's beautiful figure. That guy had side-eye-body-scan in a bad, bad way. Good for him! Love this blog!

It would be good if the Duggar boys could witness a girl who could in-line skate without struggling and giggling and falling on the nearest guy for help. Jackson needs to lose that nasty hat he always wears. It is dirty. Jackson and James meet the Duggar criteria for good chaperones. They are good tattletales.

Meme said...

Honestly, I haven't seen much, if any, evidence of lust or longing in the young adult Duggars, with the exception of Josh. (The hand sex with Anna). Beginning to wonder if some of them are asexual. It's not normal to be that repressed, rules or no rules. I had a very strict father too, but I sure managed to buck the system when my husband came along. These "kidults" are either enslaved by Jim Bob's control over their money, or they're CHOOSING to be this way, like Goody Two Shoes Jessa. And yes, the Duggars ALL believe that they are better than you or me. They will never admit to it but they absolutely do.

Just Furious said...

I am just furious with myself & a member of my family, who won't fess up to watching a show on TLC last night& then leaving the TV on that station. I had fallen asleep myself, so I guess it counts as if I was watching the Duggars, which I wasn't. Everyone in my house knows my rules, that if they see TLC on & for some reason,& I have fallen sleep, they are supposed to shut the TV off. So I guess the Duggars got credit for me watching although I was sleeping. Now that I think of it maybe many viewers are actually sleeping through the show. Of course, I had fallen asleep because I am one of those terrible women who go out into the world, & work outside my home instead of staying home & birthin kids.

Captain crunch, Are you serious about Jill wearing pants?! I never would of thought she would do something other than what JB taught her was right. I can see Jessa wearing pants, especially now that her bestie Jinger proudly demonstrates how good they look on her.

imaamy said...

I know I only have myself to blame cause I continue to watch, but all these family members seem to relish acting stupid and revealing their lack of worldly knowledge. Chorizo is sausage

Mickey2942 said...

1.2 million, the trend is moving down. Apparently, what brings in viewers is a birth, or a wedding. Anything else is lower.

I have not watched the show for years, I wonder who the advertisers are...

Why is TLC so devoted to this dysfunctional family?

Aimee said...

Don't hate me but I enjoyed the bit with Jeremy/Jinger driving when he spilled the coffee. It was a REAL moment. Not forced, no googlie eyes, just people being people. Dare I say that they seem normal. Like real people normal.

Mickey2942 said: "1.2 million, the trend is moving down." Sorry, the numbers say otherwise, 1.2 million of us watch this on Monday night. Why? I guess the Monday night football game was not especially interesting? I personally didn't watch but it's on my PVR when the feeling strikes.

Mickey2942 said...

I was comparing this season to previous seasons, not individual shows. Look at the last few seasons, the trend is going down, less interest.

Shelli said...

So Joe and Kendra limit themselves to a couple of 3 second side hugs per day BUT side thigh to thigh in the truck. Kinda the same thing isn't it? These courtships rules are getting more incredibly stupid with each couple. By the time the little girls start courting they will have to keep 50 feet away from their intended. I'm surprised good old Jim Bob hasn't instituted chastity belts for all single females. Probably shouldn't give him any ideas.

For the record, Jill doesn't wear pants to my knowledge. Those pajama/palazzo pants she had on under her dress was solely for shooting the scene where Derick used the Doppler on her to hear the heartbeat. That was an exception 'moment' so she would stay modest and covered up. There simply was no other way to shoot that scene in their bedroom in CA. I highly doubt Jill has 'converted' to pants-wearing.

Kudos to Ben for actually knowing what chorizo is. He had to think a minute, but he was right. He and his family are more worldly than all of the Duggar kids put together.

The sin of the Duggar parents (although there are others, IMO) is that they have purposely made their children quite UNAWARE of the world and even the good things in it. They are quite limited and insular and have not been allowed to develop ANY curiosity about anything but Jesus and modest wear.

Cari said...

Best part are the scenes with Jinger away from the other Duggars.

Captain Crunch said...

Yes! She had on a long red shirt and gray pants in the last 15 minutes or so of the episode.

I liked seeing Joy and Austin's future home and the work that they and others will do to make it livable. I think she SHOULD be proud that they will be the first of her siblings (other than John-David who owns a house but isn't allowed to live in it) to have her own home with her spouse! How sad that the rest of the siblings are at Jim Bob's mercy for housing, of all things!!!

Continue to respect Jinger & Jeremy for not drinking the Kool-Aid and having babies immediately. Kudos to *some* individual thinking on their parts.

It must be so nice to have siblings available and willing to help remodel a house. This must be the benefit of having nothing else to do, no jobs to commit to, so that you are available to help with their projects.

Anyone have thoughts on who will marry first? Jana or John-David. Couldn't this be available for betting on in Vegas? ;-)

I re-watched the episode last night. That cake tasting scene WAS painful to watch. I have never seen a more Unenthusiastic couple in my life. Joy acted like preparing for her wedding (to the man she supposedly loves AND is her best friend)was comparable to dental surgery. Just get it over with so my mouth is ok and I'll be able to eat. She wanted to be married already and not enjoy ANY preparation FOR IT.
I didn't like her very much in this episode. I think her personality has changed on camera, at least. Perhaps that's who she really has been all along and her 'acting' was for the show previously. Austin does give a controlling, serious vibe, more than Jeremy does to me. Not happy for Joy at all.
I feel sorry for Kendra and Joe because they had absolutely NO chance at life OR developing anything about themselves before they got married. Kendra is about 12; Joe, about 16 years in age to me. I hope Kendra loses that annoying laugh when she calms down a bit. Those two gave a nervous vibe to me when they were together and really didn't know each other before they married. They're still on their company 'behaviour' with each other. More so than the other ones.

I agree. I really used to like joy but lately she comes across as arrogant and snobbish while actually just being very immature. She is becoming a Jessa clone. Actually I kind of like jessa better than joy now that she has become a mother and mellowed out a bit. Glad that jinger hasn't gulped the koolaid like the others. Jeremy has been good for her. Derek is such a disappointment, really expected more from him..

Re: In VA's comment about Joy & John David being the only ones to own heir own homes.I thought Jinger & Jeremy just bought a home of their own . Nothing was said about Jim Bob buying it for them. I thought they did it on their own.

Heart in Florida: Really astute observations about the couples. How in the world does any parent think it okay for such sheltered, immature youngsters - and yes, I mean youngsters - to marry and have babies? I'll tell you how. They're all taking a knee to their almighty CULT, and sacrificing the most precious things in the world: their children.

Take Joe. He's a nice kid. He's spent his life hanging out with his siblings and has been on a few free trips, which were probably the highlight of his existence so far. He's done odd jobs for his "Pops" and probably swings a mean hammer thanks to his big bro John David. So. What now? A job and an apartment? A stint in the military? Young love with a first gifrlfriend? We all know what came next...and all at the same time. Joe will be feeling just as trapped as Josh and just as old & tired as Ben before he's 25. His wife will be eternally pregnant and his many children will always be hungry. Joe will not have any sweet memories to revisit...no adventures with friends (he wasn't allowed any of either), no carefree moments, trips to the coast, etc. Don't we all love to remember the times when we looked and felt our best? When our hair was fullest, our feelings the most intense? Most important, those first moments of INDEPENDENCE away from our parental units?! Whoopie! Freedom! Those wonderful tender years! How sad that the Duggar kidults will never even know what they have missed!

You know, my son is in his first year of college and is having so many positive experiences. And this is where I lose my ability to relate to Jim Bob or Michelle. How they can willingly deprive their children of such a wonderful stage of life is especially mystifying considering that they themselves were given the chance to experience it. They didn't wanna go to college, though. Jim Bob wasn't bright and Michelle was a follower. So, no college for anyone, including the kids. Case closed. Life over.

So Sad said...

Re:smokey's comment about Joy coming across as arrogant & snobbish. I totally agree with you but I have been saying this for quite sometime. I think the change came when Michele decided to make a "lady" out of her & make her stop being a tomboy & enjoying activities the other girls never did. I think she thought, well I'm now the mom in the house & I'll do thing my way. I tell the little ones what to do & how to do it & let them know I'm in charge. I don't think Jana would interfere with her. The same thing is happening to Hannie. She is being reined in big time. Poor little girl who once answered the question, asked by the producer, what do you want to be when you grow up, she immediately answered; "a Doctor." How sad to do this to your children, who have some hopes & dreams for their lives & don't realize they will never have a choice in how their lives turn out. Daddy will decided that.

Elspeth said...

The house buying is all about production lag time. Joy commented about the house in May. Jinger and Jeremy purchased their house in June.

Mickey2942 said...

The question is, when Josh became an adult, and escaped the compound, the constant control, he went hog wild, going to strip clubs, meeting strippers...did that mean that the other children in the Duggar family were controlled even more, as adults, so they wouldn't do the same things?

It is sad that the parents stole their children's future, and choices, by keeping them ignorant and uneducated.

InVA said...

Lindsey! You are right! Jinger and Jeremy do have their own home! Oversight by me and perhaps as of when they recorded Joy saying that they hadn't bought their home yet. Thank you for correcting me! :-)

Lindsey said...

InVA, no offence taken. I just thought Jinger & Jeremy should receive credit for purchasing their own home. I wish Joy well but wonder just how much work she will have to do in her condition, in order to make the house livable. It must make Jim Bob furious, that so far at least, Jeremy & Jinger are not living the kind of life he ascribes to. He must be embarrassed in the circles he travels in, after all he picked the sons-in-laws as well as the daughters-in-laws. I'm sure the daughters-in-laws will abide by the rules & regulations.

The silliest comment I heard in the first few minutes (I couldn't watch the entire show) was the kids skating and Kendra saying she asked her parents if it was ok if she got help from Joe while skating. They gave them permission for her to grab his arm but not his hand.
WHAT? Are these people serious? Kendra's family is as bad as the Duggars. No hope for that couple.

Well, you can't be too careful these days. Joe is so in tune with his hormones and sex drive. If Kendra holds his hand, he might drag her away from the chaperones and kiss her or ...you know, more. But probably he'd just be freaked out by a girl (his fiancée) touching his hand.

Ruby said...

Kendra giggles incessantly which is Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo annoying, she wears a heap ton of makeup and she's all about rules. Does she know how to think for herself? What a mind-numbed robot.

Elspeth said...

They were just courting during the skating date. The engaged couples are allowed to hold hands.

Aunt Bea said...

It's just so unnatural for someone to be 'freaked out' by someone, who is not their sister holding their hand. That's one of the stunting issues many have with this family. They intentionally shelter their children and keep them from NORMAL development. Absolutely nothing wrong with not being promiscuous before marriage and not having sex....but these controlling parents actually stunt their own children from maturing. They, then marry them off with no emotional grown and maturity and expect them to jump in bed with their spouse asap.

Gina Marie A. said...

How can Kendra be expected to suddenly do her wifely duties when she's been so restrained, even by Joe and his stupid 3 second hug rule?.

InVA said...

Yeah, it killed me too how innocently and seriously Kendra explained that she had discussed with her parents and gotten permission to grab Joseph's arm if she were about to fall. Clearly there's no room for independent decision making and/or problem solving in her family either. Based on this how in the world are they handling marriage/living on their own? I can't imagine that either of them have been empowered to make any decisions!

I think that her giggling is coping with nervousness. She doesn't really know this person, yet wants to impress him, is convinced that she loves him and is so lucky to be marrying him. What a crazy roller coaster of emotions this young woman must be having!

Does anyone know where they are living? Who supplied the house? Are they in the McMansion since Jilly moved out? I need details! ;-)

Meme said...

Agree w/ Aunt Bea about the lack of normal development. Old man Gothard turned out to be a perv, yet these people still ascribe to HIS doctrine. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that women must wear long, frizzy corkscrew hairdos or avoid physical contact with others, yet they all do. So is Gothardism "in" or is it "out"? Can't have it both ways. No one seems to recognize that the followers have become like Papa G. himself. They adopted not only his personal beliefs/interpretations of scripture but his personal PREFERENCES as well. HE likes long hair on women. HE believes that men should have their own businesses, etc. These beliefs are not scriptural. They are simply one sick little man's daydreams. As in all cults, though, no one is aware there's a difference.

Speaking of Joys haughty attitude Tori - have you seen her fb page? She starts out saying....Remove yourself or I will if you don't like it, but I'm going to say this....then she goes on to talk about Josh's deeds, how he was a "young" teen, he's been forgiven, he's family, blah, blah, blah...! The whole thing just reeked of attitude. Most responded how wonderful! Bring him back on the show! I only found maybe 3 negative comments. Surprised they weren't deleted. Then again, she probably does what the rest of the high and mighty Duggars do, have some lowly peon manage her fb account! Austin approved of course!

Grandma Wagner said...

Diana.....The entire Duggar family is infected with narcissistic personality disorder which is quickly spread to those they marry.
