Very interesting news about John and Abbie and the Philippines. I suspected something along that line was in the works. Nathan Bates is also a pilot and has been spending a lot of time in the Philippines. I hope they will do an episode and tell us more about this. I expect it would be difficult to tell this story as there are two networks involved, but maybe they can just do them separately and we will all get the idea. Nathan said on their show last week that he is training on helicopters now. This could be new and interesting episodes IMO.

The Philippines are a great place for the Duggars. All those nasty Catholics who are just ripe for the conversion. Way better than bringing school supplies or medicine to some poor, struggling village. Please, please let us see JohnDavid and Abbie do something charitable and Christian instead of something narrow-minded and shallow. So very tired of this family and their twisted idea of “helping”.

I believe the work the Bates and Duggars are involved with in the Philippines is much more hands-on, actual hard work than what the Duggars usually do in Central America. As far as the "preaching" part, well we know they do some of that. I believe Nathan said they are trying to put in some sort of water system and a way to fly patients who need medical help. I will try to re-watch the episode a week ago Thursday. Its where Lawson, Nathan and Trace are talking to Gil at their new church building.

Re: Irish Rosie’s comments

You pretty much summed up my thoughts as soon as I heard the Bateses talking about Nathan going to the Philippines. Yeah, if he’s working on a 911 system, that’s great, and it’ll likely save lives. But I have a feeling that the intent is really no different than the Duggars’ when any of them have gone to Central America. Convert those “evil Catholics” to their fundy ways. Well, I’ve got news: I’m one of those “evil Cathloics”, and we’ve got faith already. The last thing any of us anywhere in the world need is for people like the Duggars and the Bateses to come in and tell us we’re damned to Hell if we don’t convert to their twisted way of life. And it’s also just another example of the Batses being just as awful as the Duggars, but just managing to make it more palatable somehow.

Actually, the Southern Philippines is Abu Sayf territory. Several Christian missionaries have been killed there. Visaya and some of the other southern provinces are largely Muslim. For some of those groups, kidnapping offlanders is a way to fundraise.

Abbie needs a good 1 hour bath scrub-down. She’s so grimy looking and her hair is awful. Just greasy. I’ve always thought the Duggar’s were dirty looking, but Abby takes it to a new level. Well. she fits right in with the Duggar’s. I wonder what her feet look like. LOL

Oh, God. I just connected the dots on Abbie wanting to keep her nursing certification but she didn’t mention wanting to work. Since Dr Jill, no-medicine woman can’t be on the show overseeing home births, I bet Jimboob is planning on Abbie being the new mid-wife nurse. Abbie has no idea what she just married into.

Jeremy's grandparents were so cute! They are in their 90's and still cooking dinner for everyone. Amazing. They seemed so thrilled when Felicity smiled at them. Felicity has so much personality!! I also thought the trip to the Philippines with Abbie's sisters was very interesting. The part I did NOT like was Jackson getting driving lessons. How boring. Several grown men and teenagers went with him for this event. Really? They have nothing better to do? It was just strange. Of course we know the main reason was to be able to include Jim Bob in something, again. They were just standing around to get camera time. They could get camera time by showing them at work or something real. I guess I just don't understand why TLC doesn't understand they could have a decent show if they would just get together with the Duggars and have them do something interesting - show the real life stuff for a change. Oh well. Jim Bob is his same boring self and now he is taking up screen time from his kids again.

I thought it was ridiculous to have all those boys, as well as Jim Bob in the car with 14 yr. old Jackson, as he was practicing his driving, on top of that they picked up the police officer. I was surprised that the officer didn't order the boys out of the car saying it was a distraction, because it certainly was as each of them had something to say to Jackson, while he was trying to concentrate. I am always surprised when a 14 yr. old has a learners permit. Where I live you can't get your permit until you're 15 & a half, then when you're 16 you can go for your license. Of course, I realize they live in farm country but even so, a 14 yr. old doesn't always have the best judgment & with everyone shouting their directions & opinions from the back seat, it's worse. Jackson has always been a little on the wild side anyway. The more I think of all those boys plus J.B. in that car or van, whatever it was, the more ridiculous it is. That was just for camera time, I guess because viewers keep saying they realy want to see what the all the kids are doing. Well that's apparently what they are doing, all of them riding around with a 14yr.old practicing his driving, either that or constructing the pop-up bridal salon. Anything but working a real job. They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Guess this episode proves that Jim Bob & probably Michelle are back for good or at least for as long as the ministry lasts

Felicity's adorable said...

I loved seeing Jeremey's parents & grandparents with Felicity & Jinger. You could tell they were just overjoyed to see that baby. I also heard Jeremy's grandma tell Jinger, how very much she loved her. I wonder how often Jinger has heard that from her own mom? They couldn't stop hugging Jinger & there were absolutely no "side hugs" at all, just really warm & loving embraces. Jeremy's entire family just love both Felicity & Jinger. Jeremy's was laughing thinking for a moment that his grandma forgot that he was even there but grandma said, "oh I knew you were here too but I just had to get to that baby." That's exactly how it would be in my family too. Jeremy's grandpa was just as thrilled. Of course Feicity couldn't have been any more adorable with those those huge smiles & cute little noises that sounded like she was trying to talk to her great-grandparents. Those great-grandparents were both amazing, in their nineties cooking all that food & serving it & just delighted to be able to so & have their family there, as well as Jeremy's friends & their children. I hope Jinger realizes that it's possible to have a close, loving family without needing to produce 19 kids to prove how much love there is in your home. There was a great deal of love in the Vuolo (sp) home with warm & welcoming grandparents & great-grandparents. I wonder if J.B. & Michele can even remember the names & birthdates of all their grandchildren or do they remain more concerned about getting to the very special & precious number 200. I remember J.B. saying once that he couldn't remember the birthdates of all of his own children.

It's a shame to see Abbie all dressed up for her wedding (saw the previews) & her hair still a mess & yes she does look like she needs a good shower or bath. I noticed someone was working on her hair with a curling iron or some such device, during the preparations for the wedding ceremony. I don't know if it was one of her sisters, or someone else from the wedding party but can't believe it was a professional hairdresser, someone should have washed & styled her hair better for the wedding. Where was her mother? I know I would have told my daughter that she had a beautiful gown & it was the most important day of her life & she should let someone who knew what they were doing take care of her hair for at least that day. Also regarding Abbie continuing her nursing career. I agree that she doesn't sound very committed to returning to work as a nurse, or anything else. Just because she maintains her nursing license doesn't meant she's going to work as a nurse. I rather doubt it. I think she will use that as an excuse to continue her "missionary medical work". I noticed that John said he & others were preaching the Gospel, while Abbie was working. Abbie's sisters were also working at the medical tent with her. I was surprised when Abbie said she had only been a nurse for a year. As a nurse myself, I continue to renew my nursing license every 2 yrs. That means I must maintain a certain number of Continuing Education Units & of course pay the fee for my license, every 2 yrs. I have not worked as a nurse (in a hospital setting or for an agency i.e. Visiting Nurse)for several yrs. due to chronic back problems that cause severe pain. However at least for me, nursing school was difficult & I considered it quite an achievement to graduate at the top of my class & then pass the exam required for licensure, so I still continue to maintain my license. I still enjoy studying the courses I need to renew my license every 2 yrs. I feel I am keeping up to some extent, on what's going on in the field of medicine. I worked as a Hospice Nurse for many yrs. & when possible I have now helped out a number of friends & close neighbors who have needed help, along the lines of a private duty nursing care for a family member, which can be very expensive & not usually covered by any type of insurance. As you can imagine although these are friends or possibly even family members & I am not taking a dime, still when helping by working as a nurse, I always feel more secure knowing that I have my nursing license in my back pocket, so to speak. I was surprised that Abbie said she did a lot of home care nursing, as it usually requires a good amount of hospital experience before working in a home setting. This may vary in different areas of the country.

When Abbie speaks of "nursing", I wonder if she's an RN or BSN, or is more of a CNA. CNAs can visit the homebound to provide assistance with bathing, dressing, wound care, etc. Much less training required, and though continuing professional education and relicensing are needed. She may not be providing the kind of complex medical care RNs provide.

She vouco still work as a "medical missionary" providing the most rudimentary kinds of services and refer more complicated cases to those with advanced licenses and training.

Abbie is an LPN.

Elizabeth I remember thinking how unspecial her hair looked for her wedding. It looked like it did any other day. That is the foremost thought I have besides how scruffy john david looked.
If getting married is such a huge deal why do they look like they are at a backyard bbq? She seems very nice and natural but now that everyone has been posting their thoughts on her image, I can now chime in without feeling bad. Yes she looks dirty and gross. Too bad as a grown woman, but... birds of a feather.... on the whole though they seem like the most innocent and sweet of all the grown duggar children besides poor stunted jana.
I see them as children in adult bodies playing adult games. this has been disagreed with in the past but I cant help how I see them or how they display themselves.

Elspeth is correct. Abbie is an LPN. A Licensed Practical Nurse. Although this is a licensed form of nursing, it is from a technical school, not a college & is nowhere near the R.N. either from a Community College, which is an Associates Degree in Nursing or an R.N. from a College Degree Program. The R.N. from a College Program has a BSN, the R. N. from the Community College has 2 yrs. of study & training & receives an Associates Degree in Nursing but normally doesn't work in areas of the hospital requiring more extensive study & training, such as the intensive care units, unless there is an R.N. there on duty. Either way Abbie is nowhere near an R.N. The LPN has slightly more education than a Certified Nurses Aide, which is a few weeks of study and practical work. They work under the supervision of an R.N. I'm sure Abbie probably does have the most education of any of the Duggar women. She certainly is far & above Jill, the midwife we have heard about for all these yrs. & probably would have known when to ship Joy off to the hospital for the delivery of her over 10 lb. baby after all those hrs. of labor. I also believe she would have recognized that Joy required a C-section because the baby was breech. Although, I was surprised to hear Abbie say she had only been a nurse for one year. Of course, Austin was an EMT but didn't know that Joy needed to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance for skilled medical care to save both her & the baby.I'll never forget how Joy suffered & I hope when she's pregnant again pregnant & she definitely will be pregnant again, she will insist on going to the hospital & receiving the care & compassion that Jinger received. Having an epidural hasn't made Jinger any less of a good wife & mother, in my opinion, so I don't know why these young women continue to insist on all the suffering, unless it's just for good TV. If that's the case then it's a crime..

Boy, Jana is a take charge kinda girl, isn't she? I think I know now why she is not married: she probably knows EXACTLY what she wants! Good for her. I only wish she could have gone to college instead of raising all those guys and little girls.

So I need some clarification. Abbie says it's hard giving up her job, yet she also thinks it's time to do just that? John David would support her working, though? I don't understand. Maybe I missed part of the episode?

Re: Mia's comment on Abbie saying it's hard giving up her job but she thinks it's time to do just that. Abbie said in the episode where they went to the Philippines for the Medical Mission work, that she had only been a nurse for a year, she also said she was going to keep up her license when she was living in AR.& that John supported her continuing her nursing. Who goes to school for nursing then only works at that for a year & gives it up? I have know women who decided after a few yrs. of nursing that they didn't want that job for the rest of their lives but they went back to school & studied something along the same lines i.e. pharmacology, working for the Food & Drug Administration etc. I think Jim Bob heard that Abbie planned to continue as a nurse & that was the end of her nursing career. Jim Bob does seem to have a great deal of influence over his children, married or not. He said he wouldn't allow John to move into the house he owned until he was married & it certainly appears that he has remained living there in the TTH until now.
