No one has even commented yet on this weeks episode. Interest must be waning. We're all just so bored of the same script, just different faces. Sad but true.

I noticed a crucifix hanging over the front door of Magarita’s house when they were there for Jinger’s baby shower. I gotta wonder if she’s Catholic, or if she just has all the intelligence of a Duggar and doesn’t know that’s a Catholic thing. She said Jeremy married her and her husband, and I can’t see Jeremy hanging out with us heathens (*INSERT EYE ROLL*), so I’m guessing the latter.

Jessa and that long, stringy, dirty hair hanging down while she prepares food in the kitchen. GROSS. BARF.

I also noticed the crucifix over the door. I wondered why that family had that symbol as it is a Catholic symbol. I wonder if the Duggar/Vuolos asked them to take it down since Margarita attends Jeremy's church. I also wonder why they attend J's church if they are Catholic. Perhaps the Church wouldn't marry them because of prior marriages so they went to the Vuolos' church? I hope the crucifix made the Duggars uncomfortable. Catholics have the crucified Jesus on the cross because it depicts the moment of redemption, not because we believe the Jesus is still on the cross. He rose and ascended. How is that wrong, I'll never know.

The crucifix over the door is Catholic AND cultural, I believe. She may have someone in her home that hasn't converted or it may be its a gradual thing to let go of customs if you will. I thought they were so sweet to host Jinger's party. I kind of enjoyed this episode. Didn't enjoy seeing Jim Bob but did enjoy seeing Jeremy's parents. On another note, however, Austin is starting to get on my last nerve. Is he trying to be funny? Does he have a weird sense of humor that we don't understand yet? He carried the germ thing a little too far. He makes all the other husbands look super sweet.

I used to watch the original Duggar show but lost interest and now only.vaguely follow the family’s sagas. I happened to stumble on Counting On Monday night and decided to sit through the episode. I have a few questions that maybe some of you regular watchers can answer:

Joe and Kendra live in a pretty cute house, a house that looks nothing like what I’d expect to see in Duggarville. Is it part of the Duggar compound?

I know that Derrick got fired from the show for his outspoken opinions and Josh fired for being a pig, but are they (and their wives) estranged from the family offcamera? I didn’t see any sign of them at the Jinger Gender Reveal, so does that mean Josh and Anna and Derrick and Jill get left out when there are cameras rolling at family functions? Weird to see Jessa hosting her sister Joy and brother Joe and their spouses, leaving out her other local married spouses.

Finally, in the scenes of Kendra and her mom, they look a little formal with each other. Kendra greeted her mom with a cheery, but sort of stiff hug, and I never saw any other physical interaction between them. I don’t know what I would’ve expected - a spontaneous arm squeeze? - but there was just something a little staged about how they looked together. I always thought that was something strange about Michelle and her many kids - no real warmth displayed. Is there something about their church teachings that discourages physical contact between Moms and their offspring?

I have friends that are other Christian denominations, besides catholic, that have crosses on their walls. What they don’t have are the saints (pictures or ceramic figures) around their house. It all depends on their home church.

A cross on the wall is a universally Christian symbol; it's the crucifix with Jesus upon it that is Catholic..perhaps Episcopalians and Lutherans have the crucifix too as their symbol because they are so close to Catholic.

Usually in an Episcopal Church, if there is an image of Jesus on the cross, it is a risen Jesus and not and image of him being crucified.

I did see Anna filmed on the fringes with some of the other Duggars, just after the gender of the baby was reveled, but I didn't see Josh. I'm sure it was Anna shown briefly at the shower for Jinger too. I have to say, of every party of any kind, I have ever seen given for an immediate member of the Duggar family or a future in-law, whether it was an engagement, wedding celebration, baby reveal, there was only one word or Jinger's shower :CLASSY! The woman that organized it did a marvelous job & I think it was because Jeremy's mom was so involved. Everything from beautiful decorations & favors was top notch. Also none of the gifts looked like they came from a thrift shop. I don't think Jim Bob liked Jeremy being in charge of the gender reveal. He was actually ordering Jim Bob around & that certainly doesn't go well with the Duggars, although it appeared that it was mostly Duggars & their in-laws that were at the gender revel. However the shower was a totally different animal, they were pretty much left out in the cold & all thanks & attention was given to the friends that so generously provided everything for the shower, along with thanks to Jeremey's mom for coming up with the idea for the shower to be in Laredo. I'm sure Jeremy's mom & dad helped out with the shower. It appears that they have class & social skills & know the right way to do things. The Duggars usually drag out that roll of white paper & make signs for every occasion, have very little food (only munchies) never anything like floral arrangements & corsages for the grandmothers, beautifully wrapper favors, house decorated inside & outside. Well done to Jeremy & Jinger's friends & his parents, who seem just over the moon, thrilled about becoming grandparents, to this little baby girl.

Catholics also have the risen Jesus on the cross. It just depends on the parish church. I've attended a catholic church with the risen Jesus. I think newer, more modern parishes have the risen Jesus. It's all good to me.

If I was Jinger, I would have told Jessa, thanks but no thanks, when it came to decorating my baby's nursery. I don't know why Jessa thinks it's her job & only her job to take over decorating someone else's nursery. I think Jinger & Jeremy were perfectly capable of decorating their baby's nursery. I don't think they needed any of Jessa's thrift store bargains for Felicity. Jinger lives in a dirty house & her boys never look exactly "spit & polished" when she takes them somewhere special. I realize they are little boys, & they certainly can get dirty but when you go somewhere special, attend a special occasion, you usually see little ones, boys included, dressed in their "Sunday best" clothing." Apparently they either don't have any dress up clothing or Jessa is so busy handling everyone's else's life that she doesn't bother with dressing the boys up except for pictures. If she can dress them up for pictures for magazines etc. she can dress them up or special occasions, especially since she now seems to be the official spokesperson for the family, at least it appears she has something to say about everyone's marriage & children. She definitely didn't think Jinger was capable of decorating or shopping for Felicity. It seems that many of the Duggar grandchildren are going to look just like the ragamuffins their parents did as little ones. Josie still always looks a mess. I noticed Jim Bob holding Josie in his arms at the gender reveal. Did he ever hold Jordyn or Jennifer like that?

Unbelievable: I think you meant Jessa lives in a dirty house. You mentioned her boys and Jonger only has one little girl. Jinger's house didn't look dirty to me.

Heart in Florida said...

Why is Josie, who is 8 or 9 years old still being held like she's a two year old?

Willow said...

Unbelievable: Yes, I agree 1,000% with everything you stated so well.

What was the surprise the Duggars had for Jinger?

Re: unbelievable
I think Jessa is desperately trying hard to stay in the spotlight and take as much attention away from the siblings and in laws as possible. Even if it makes viewers as annoyed as hell, she comes across as bossy, condescending, bitchy, and a know-it-all. She's overcompensating for a lack of education and career by pretending to know something about home decorating. I wish she'd go home to the dirty-diaper filled, mold house and start homeschooling those boys of hers.

IMO, Jill and Jessa are definitely the lazy ones, out of both the Duggar and Bates families. I could go on for the whole page, but you all know what I'm talking about. Its a shame Jill didn't get to be a REAL midwife, but I think there are several reasons for that and one is just her laziness/lack of ambition/lack of brain power. Sorry to have to be so blunt.
