Good Luck To Anna who is due soon. I hope you get your healthy son.

Jill and Josh were on an ad on CNN today, for tornado relief in Arkansas. Jill looked good, but Josh just looked super sized..his upper arms were totally huge.

ennvee said...

The CNN footage was taped days ago. My computer went down on Friday and I saw it before then (I think I saw it Thursday...at any rate, before they left for Niagara Falls).

Speaking of Niagara Falls, check out the video on the link below. They were in NF and the surrounding area this past Friday (6/3). I cannot BELIEVE that Anna is out traveling two weeks from her due date (and she looks every bit as miserable and huge as someone two weeks from their due date). I know that the full family makes the best impression on the public, but jeez, Mackynzie came 10 days early, which would be what, this coming Thursday? I know they have a book tour and all, but geez, get her back in the comfort of her home to have her son!

- a million, Jim Bob and Josh. Bad move.

Pretty boring video of JimBob speaking a ton, but watch Anna get off the bus... she looks incredibly uncomfortable. Whose idea was it to have her travelling on a crowded bus in the last month of pregnancy?

SuzanneDeAZ said...

I think TV makes people look bigger than they really are. Or perhaps Josh is training using weights.

Shelly said...

Oh wow! Anna sure is one of those women who get HUGE when pregnant. She looks a month overdue!

ennvee said...

Josh ain't working out with weights unless he's also on steroids. His face is bloated, an indicator of too much salt in his diet.

Face it, the guy is plain ole fat; he looks more like 43 rather than 23. Interestingly, it seems like Anna feeds the baby healthfully, why can't she translate that to cooking for two adults?

Unless, as I suspect, Josh has his father's penchant for junk food and has a stash in his desk drawer at work.

Duggars on The Today Show:

GROUP THINK. Out of all those kids, not a one of them has any other aspiration than to 'go forth and multiply'?

The Duggars have their brand downpat. Like politicians: Michelle with the loving, humble head tilt toward The Patriarch whenever he speaks and all of them rotely repeat their brand party line, no matter what the subject.

Baa! Baa!

Alli Byers said...

I saw them this morning on The Today Show promoting their book, "A Love that Multiplies." I could NOT believe that Anna traveled to NYC this late in her pregnancy!! She is due in about a week! And Mackynzie came 2 weeks early! Josh and Anna weren't on the set of the show. They were still at the hotel. Michelle said they were out too late last night and couldn't get up this morning, or something to that affect. I was like- so Anna flies all the way there in her last week of pregnancy and doesn't even get on the show. I really hope the real reason wasn't that she was having contractions! SCARY.

The Duggars were on the Today Show this morning. Here's the link:
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/43309004#43309004

Nobody's pregnant (except for Anna, who was resting in the hotel room with Josh).

All the kids say that they want to have a large family. They seem to really genuinely love their brothers and sisters, but considering the way they've been raised, I don't think they would ever go against what their parents did.

Sharla said...

Even worse about Anna...she's been on the bus and was spotted last Friday at Niagara Falls descending the steps of a bus and walking to a designated spot where the producers wanted everyone and she looked HUGE and MISERABLE. The Today Show appearance was pathetic and it's official: Jana will be home a while longer since Michelle has passed Josie down to her. I'm glad Josie seems to be doing well, but the doctors told these people not to expose her to germy situations for two years. Last time I checked, Josie is only 18 months old. Jim Bob cutting off Jessa and his own wife showed why the family is so "well-behaved" (a phrase used about 5 times in 5 minutes. Note to Michelle, even your most ardent fans know you aren't struggling to financially "make it" some months. That and the thrift store clothing memes need to be retired for good.

(Edited no @ people, please.) Ennvee

Thanks for posting the clip of the Today Show. I think it's natural that on TV the children would all appear to tow the line. I wonder whether they are all as happy with the situation as they make out. I think Joy looks so miserable in this clip and have often noticed that her body language expresses discomfort, boredom and unease. I think it must be particularly hard to be a middle child in such a large family.

Mr. Duggar is the ultimate politician/used car salesman in his less than completely honest spin on how he continues to feed his Super Size Me family.

Despite the obvious, he continues to claim his own early real estate alleged business savvy + Dave Sammons philosophy to explain how he now provides for his family, which, BTW, now includes 5 post high school, but still not in college or supporting themselves, progeny.

Never does he mention the $$$$ made from the usual TLC income package, which includes even the adult kids having to traipse (and film their pretend joy and excitement) to whatever Duggar demographic-pleasing destination TLC dreams up for them + the standard TLC-promoted book and its promo tour income, and, of course, the TLC-procured interview slots.

Yes... as in The Wizard of Oz, 'pay no attention to TLC behind the curtain' - Duggarville is Oz and Jim Bob Duggar is the Wi$ard.

Since Mr. Duggar claims such lucrative rental properties, why not set up his adult daughters in one of his rentals so they might, at long last since their 'graduation' from home school high school, get at least a whiff of what it is like to work outside the home to support oneself and make one's own adult decisions?

Duggarettes Do Adulthood: it's time.

msrylee said...

Mr. Duggar could easily set up his adult daughters in a rental property owned by him. However, if the elder female blessings were away from home, who would take over their responsibilities, such as caring for Josie, laundry, cooking, packing for the enjoyable trips, etc.? Jana will remain in Duggarland for a while yet, as she has been given the care of Josie. IMO, Mr. and Mrs. Duggar know how to keep the knot in the tie tightened.

It reminded two years ago when they traveled to Pigeon Forge and the Bates. Anna had to do all that walking plus at the Bates sleeping near the bathroom. I know some pregnant women work on up to the baby is born but others aren't so lucky and are put on bed rest. Maybe the doc said it was ok for her to travel but still if I were Anna I would be at home with my feet propped up under the AC. It is hard to tell why the kids look miserable. Given their ages,it could be teen hormones or just plain exhaustion from traveling. I read their bus broke down.

I went to their book singing tonight in NJ. Poor Anna looks so uncomfortable, but she was very nice. As were the rest of the family.

heavennoseven said...

I didn`t know they were on. Poor Anna. She will never cacth a break. If she has a kid every 1-2 years.

Bostonista said...

I just saw that JInger's bio on their family website says that she wants to get better at photography. What are the odds that she'd actually be allowed to go to art school or just even a couple of photography classes at a local community college? B/C I'm sure that college-plus doesn't offer any such thing (especially since, as far as I can tell, it isn't even an online school so much as a Christian based college counseling/consulting organization.) But an art school environment would probably be too threatening of a situation.

sandi said...

Poor Anna! where was Josh? I thought he should have been helping his wife down the stairs. She looked like she could hardly walk! I hope she delivers soon.

Allison said...

I also went to their book signing last night. It was set up so there was a line of people and as you went up, you met with Josh and Anna, who inscribed your book and wrote their names, and then the book was then just passed along from child to child. There wasn't a lot of opportunity to talk to everyone, because there were a lot of people.

Of course, I was a bit nervous, so a few questions I wanted to ask I immediately forgot what they were (next time I need to write them down), but of note:

- While we were in line outside, I didn't see the big bus, but I did see a Hummer with a sticker that said Duggar Towing. So I wonder if some of the kids are traveling on their own.

- Before the signing started, I saw Josiah and Joseph talking to one of the booksellers near their college prep books. I don't know if that means anything or what they were talking about.

- I did see Michelle getting ready, and instructing Jackson and Justin to "follow their buddies."

- I saw Josie while I was in line. She looked to be about the size of a 10-to-12 month old baby. Still very small.

- They had at least 2 women traveling with them to watch the younger children. I didn't recognize either of them, but I suspect one of the women was a McQuery, only because she looked like the mom.

- At the signing, I asked Anna if they had picked a name yet, and she said it was a surprise and that we'd have to tune in.

- I also asked Anna if she was going on the entire book tour and she said "That's the plan."

- She did seem very tired, almost like she didn't really want to be there. She wasn't as chipper as I expected, but she was very polite.

- I asked Jill if she was still pursuing nursing and she said she was praying about it, but that she was doing her pre-requisites (CollegePlus, I'm assuming, though she didn't mention them by name). I asked her if she'd be going someplace in Arkansas and she said, "Yes, there are two schools right by my parents." So Jill *is* contemplating a brick-and-mortar nursing school. I thought that was interesting.

- The older boys looked a bit bored.

- The girls (who are my favorites) were all spread out and busy signing, so I couldn't really get my picture taken with all of them. I asked Jinger if I could come behind to take my picture, and she said that she didn't think people were allowed to. She was very nice and funny, reminded me of a normal teen.

- Michelle and Jim Bob were also very polite. Michelle was super excited to see everyone, including boring old me. They both introduced themselves and shook our hands. When I asked if I could get my picture taken with them, Michelle said, "Sure! Give the camera to [their staff photographer, don't remember his name]. He's great!." And so I went behind them, and then Michelle motioned to my fiance to come behind me and was like "Come on!"

The only question I wish I had asked was asking about why Josie was allowed to travel prior to 2 years, so I'm really sorry that I forgot! But they might address it on the show, or if someone else goes to their signing, maybe you can ask.

It is very obvious from last night's episode that the older Duggar children love being still part of a large family. They love their younger siblings. They function well as a family so having Mr. Duggar give them a rental property for them to live away is moot.

**********************************

It's important to be able to separate the TLC brand and characters played from the actors in these 'reality' series.

I imagine some of what we see about the Duggars may have some truth to it, but just like every other reality program, the Duggars are willing to portray the brand as assigned by TLC.

I don't put any stock into the rote and now predictable statements about how all 19 kids LOVE being in such a big family, plan to follow in their parents' footsteps, and are happy to stay in the nest long into adulthood.

Duggars = a brand.

JimBob's speech impediment really shows up in that first video, even though he's obviously worked very hard to overcome it. A lot of people who lisp tend to slide back into it when they've tired.

I'm really surprised that Anna and Josh came along on the book tour! She is less than 2 weeks away from her due date for pete's sake! Plus, she had Mackynzie a few days early, so who knows how early this baby might be. Wow. There's no way I would be traveling so far away from home with less than 2 weeks to go.

msrylee said...

The Duggars are a brand, produced by TLC, plain and simple. Just because all the blessings appear to enjoy travelling with the family, living with them, working for them, doesn't mean all of them are truly happy. This is a reality show, and the Duggars are expected to act in certain ways as per their brand. Maybe they are happy and don't want to leave Duggarland, but maybe not. What we see may not be the way it actually is in fact. JMHO.

Re Anna Traveling:

I propose the following scenarios...

They are planning another "home birth" and as such do NOT need to stick close to THE hospital, just close to the midwife and or doula. Since we don't know who the two women traveling with the Duggars are (I didn't see what you guys were discussing so my guess can work) they could very well be a midwife, or a doula. With w/e training Jill has gotten (or Jana or which ever one it was) and Michelle there as well... unless something really bad happens they will be fine...

IF something serious happens they are in larger cities where there are hospitals not that far away. I was two weeks late with my first and I traveled 2 hours away by car, didn't hurt me any... but had I NOT gone and something had happened I had no way to a doctor or Hospital since all my rides were going on vacation (My doc okayed the travel too)...

Last but not least I don't know too many people who AREN'T miserable in the last few weeks, traveling or not... It hurts to sit, it hurts to walk, it hurts to lay, it hurts to stand... traveling in that big ole bus Anna has the option of doing ANY of the above it any position if the first posisiton hurts after a while. (and there is plenty of room in that back room to give birth as well... just saying)

Shelly said...

I still wouldn't feel comfortable traveling around with only days to go. Anna is braver than I would be!

hart&sole said...

Since Anna married Josh Duggar, knowing full well that the family stars in a reality show, she no doubt knew that she would be traveling whether she was pregnant or not. Anna has come a long way from the girl she was to the woman she is. There is the possibility that she actually likes the Duggars and enjoys their company. Anna also has been exposed to many places and events that she had probably never dreamed of. As for Josh, he certainly seems to love his wife and daughter. If he has flaws, well which of us doesn't?

Delta88 said...

That bus is not that big with 24 people on it, including piles of toddlers, rowdy boys, etc. I really cannot possibly imagine anything more miserable at the end of pregnancy than being cooped in a bus for EVERYTHING, including sleep, with all that noise and commotion.

Also, my doctor told me not to travel more than an hour from home for the last MONTH before my due dates. I know Anna is planning a home birth, but the thought of a bus birth is just plain..well...icky, with all those germy kids around.

I am sorry I have been meaning to post this for like two months now, but forgot my google password! John David bought the hummer from Josh that we saw two seasons ago. He has turned it into his main car for his business Duggar Towing! Besides the big red tow truck, which he only drives when he is towing certain types of cars,SUVs at certain weights. The hummer allows him to be able to tow cars too, without having to get out the big red truck. Side note, I know lots of towing companies that have a hummer or two hummers like he does to use for towing purposes.
Via my litle spy," lol old spy my pop pop" John Davies is a diesel 42 gallon tank, which the reason for the diesel hummer is because it CAN trudge through snow, sleet and 30 inches of water. Vs a gas one that is made for show, " think when you see some rich people going drink around in one, it's more than likely a gas as it's not a working class's hummer like the diesel." diesel is also what the army uses too.
But for ARK,OKLA, TEX and MIS. Back country, tows and pulling out tractors in farming fields. It's the perfect vehicle for it. ( it really is, Esp, for when you have farmers who get combines etc, stuck out in the middle of fields, where you can't even get out to the field, much less in the middle of a field, in a normal tow truck .).
I don't know if he thought of the idea to buy it or what, but the nearest tow truck company that drives one is like 20 miles away in east springdale. I know some of you will think but the diesel is so high. If you aren't driving one on a interstate at 65 mph , you can actually get 16-20 mpg on country roads etc. But if your using it as a everyday car to go 65 mph on the way to work, and I mean going everyday using it to go everywhere, your not going to get good gas mileage.
'My pop pop and uncle had him pull out one of their bobcats about two months ago. Which is when I tried to post this, but forgot my password. they said he was super professional!! He came out by himself, Hooked it up and did a great job for a fair price! He talked shop with them for a while too.
I drowned them in questions! pop said if he didn't know who he was to start with, you would think he was just any other ark boy!
Well I thought y'all might enjoy a little info on John David. I know I am two months behind of when he pulled out pop pop. But at least I finally remembered my password and I finally got this posted. I didn't see any other locals posting on it. So if y'all already know about his business and him doing really good in it, I'm sry typing a big long thing about it. When I could have just posted the pop pop part.
Going to get my hair cut a the major gossip salon next week. i am sure they will have some Duggar gossip. I use to not share it, but I can't when it's good gossip!!! Lol

===================================

I wonder if this is more of a rider situation for the book tour; Barnes and Noble provides a couple of local church ladies to corral the younger kids at each venue. I doubt they're traveling with the family as babysitters. Grandma fills that role. Did anyone see her?

Since I doubt Josh and Anna have more than basic health insurance, even with TLC money, they can't afford to have a doula traveling with them for the duration of this two week trip. That's why I tend to believe the ladies are part of the Duggars' agreement with B&N and will not be the same ladies you'll see on Sunday in Little Rock.

For those who aren't familiar with riders, they are written agreements between a celebrity and a TV show, hotel, bookstore event, stating what the show, store, etc. must provide for the celebs' comfort. For instance, the "Real Housewives" who travel to NYC to appear on the recap shows have riders that indicate what kind of drink they want on set. It's that nit-picky.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Duggars ask for a little extra help at the churches/bookstores so the kids aren't running around unchecked while their parents and older family members work the crowd.

Cyn said...

But the circles the Duggars run in having a "friend of a friend" that happens to be a doula wouldn't be a stretch. Even if they aren't a doula (I did say it was a guess) it's not a stretch to bring a few of their ATI "friends" along to help. They would be "doing Gods work" by helping out the Duggars during this season of their lives, and helping spread the word through deeds.

I love the Duggars more than most but I do know very well how the game is and can be played. Michelle's friend who is a NURSE came and helped with Josie while they were in Little Rock, and baby sat Josie when Michelle left town. The Amish and the Mennonites "hire" out to help; if they aren't related in anyway. Relations don't get paid they just come and help out for a few months, or if they are really sick or disabled they move them into their houses...

My point is they wouldn't have to have hired some one, just mention the need, pray a bit, mention it a bit more so others can pray about it and "God will provide"...

I did not see Grandma at the bookstore. It also looked like these woman were quite familiar with the children. They were dressed very similar to the Duggars (ankle length skirts). That kind of attire is not really seen much in New Jersey! I could be wrong, but that was just my perception.

Also, regarding everyone being in the bus all together, I did see a Hummer in the parking lot with a "Duggar Towing" sticker. I wonder if the family is staying in hotels paid for by the book publisher and that they are not all crammed into the bus this time. Someone has to be driving that Hummer...

I absolutely agree. They must be benefiting from it monitarily or I presume they would not be going.Still,Anna's and the baby's health should come first.I really think she should not be traveling this late into the pregnancy.

heavennoseven said...

I dont like how they play things so close. Anna can or could of given birth and you never know what can happen during a birth. If she did, she give birth she would take a new born baby home on a house with all the germs.

sandi said...

I have to wonder why the Duggar's timed the release of this book so close to the due date of their 2nd grandchild.. coincidence? I don't know how publisher's work, but surely they could have requested a date not so close to it,and they could have put off the tour for another month or so.It seems quite inconsiderate to Josh and Anna, not to mention quite thoughtless.

Me either. The kids say these things because they know no other way. Given the facial expressions whenever a pregnancy is announced, , I don't see 19 kids in Jinger's future. None of the girls looked excited when they announced the last.

msrylee said...

I also assume that for Josh and Anna, no appearance means no pay cheque. It sounds like they are planning another home birth, and I have no problem with that provided adequate medical care and attention is available.

Anna could go into labour while on the road, and give birth at the side of the freeway, in the Duggar family bus. There would be several little ones there, and it probably would be chaotic. The nearest hospital could be several miles away, and time is important should there be an emergency with mom or baby. I fail to see how this trip was in the best interest for both Anna and her unborn child.

Amanda said...

Sandi--No, publishers don't really care about your opinions as to when your book should be released AT ALL.

They do what is best for them. So even if the Duggars had requested another time, it's quite probable they were told no.

Also, publication dates are frequently set months--even years--in advance, and it's quite possible that Anna wasn't even pregnant when this date was set.

I feel for poor Anna. I wish her a safe and healthy delivery.

sandi said...

Thanks Amanda.I'm not blaming Jim Bob and Michelle. It's up to Josh to take care of his very pregnant wife, and I feel for her as well.

===================================

I read the book (what an informercial for all the stuff they promote on their website) and it reads as if most of it was finished before Josie came from the hospital the first time, 4/10. Hannie is constantly referred to being only "four years old" and Jackson, "five." Another MAJOR editing gaffe, especially in the section devoted to Duggar dating, was the mention (more than once) that Josh and Anna were married in OCTOBER 2008. Heck, even I know their wedding date because a)it would have been my Dad's 80th birthday and 2) I was attending a performance of Othello at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival that SEPTEMBER night.

FWIW, the uber-conservative, controlled family portrayed in the book bears no resemblance to the happy, shiny family with happily rowdy young sons we see on TV.

FWIW, Michelle admits to blanket training and hiding in her room because the older girls can handle the fort, so to speak.

It's most likely that the Today show announcement is about Anna having the baby. If Michelle were having #20, they would probably wait until after the grandbaby was born so they wouldn't be stealing Anna and Josh's thunder.

It's official: Michael James arrived at 5:55PM (I'm assuming Arkansas time), didn't get a length, but he weighed in at a hefty 8 lbs. 10 oz. Amy has confirmed on her facebook.

I hope to God they don't make poor Anna go to the Duggar homestead for the Today Show appearance (because they were obviously on-call regarding the "official" birth announcement. But then, this is the Duggars we're talking about here and Josh is even more about pimping out his little family for cash than his father (and that's pretty bad).

Go to people.com they have a picture of them, with article. Also they had it at the Duggars hOuse, at least that is what is going on around town. And in the newspapers it's saying tontitown, which would be the Duggars house, not Josh and annas, because they live 20 mins away in Springdale. I love the picture of Josh, Anna, mack, and micheal! It's really cute...

Jennifer said...

Josh and anna do not live in tontitown, they live in Springdale, not sure why the people article is saying he was born the same place Mack was born. Thats not true at all. The town was all a buzz the past couple of days, at the beauty salon we had a baby date contest, the money all goes to the big charity the Duggars do for tontitown. The winner who guessed the right day got a free cut and color. I was a day off!!!
By the way I've never mentioned this b score, but the duggars work and put together over 30 charities in the NWA area, that's just that area. They even give a lot to t he public schools, which they don't even attend.
Also heard they toured one of the Christian colleges in Nwa lately. Hopefully they will get to go. They are very strict, trust me I went to SNU, in OKC, an d it's all girls dorm, NO BOYS PERIOD in the girls dorm. freshman have a 10pm curfew, you Have to be in ur dorm room by 10pm for roll call. Then on top of all the Christian classes that are mandatory, you have 4 times a week hour or longer church service, in which At the end you have to have you id card scanned in ordered for them to know you were there. I am a Christian and a good good kid, but even I got a D on of the Christian bible classes, crazy huh? The schools is niai/private and cost about 50 grand a year!! I believe they touring one of it's sister schools, mid-America! so hopeful
they get to go to school .

Also to answer the hummer question, it's John davids. He drove it. Due to him pulling back another smaller tow truck they bought at a police auction on their new York trip.
But Duggar towing is john davids, name Duggar towing is also owned by him! Read my above post and you will see.

I also wanted to ask if anyone had seen the new tlc show about travelers and gypsies. They are worse than the Duggars. One the man marries his wive, even if she doesn't like him, her dad can give her to him. From then on, that man OWNS her. They have to move into a trailer with no toliet, " which is done on purpose, th ey go outside to the bathroom." then his wife is NOT ALLLOWED work period. She has to clean the trailer, wash laundry by hand, hang dry, then cook lunch and supper, then wait for him to come home. she is also not allowed to watch tv. She cannot even go to the store to get food unless he , his brother or father take her. Because he owns her. When they have kids, he never holds the baby, feeds it or changes it's diaper, cuz that is women's work. How crazy is that. They also move on to land, that they don't own, and the land owners cant do anything about it.
You just have to watch, it's unreal. If you think the Duggars are bad, they are anGELS compared to the gypsies!!
Ps. I am telling you I saw Josh a few days ago, he is not as fat as the people mag picture looks. He has gained husband baby weight, but he is not obese nor even fat! Just a little pugdy.
Everyone have a blesses day!

Also most daycares and having worked in the biggest church in dallas one point. We daycare people come in and watched the children of the guests we have, example like the Duggars. That way the parents know they are in safe hands, and aren't being lost in the shuffle of things. in fact the summer I stayed with my aunt, the Duggars did come to the church back when they had 14 kids, and we watched them while their parents spoke. Which was weird cuz they recognized me from the ttown area.

Wow, I can't believe they moved the special up to tomorrow night! Obviously, they had all the pre-birth stuff ready to go like the last time, but wow, I would have been fine waiting till the 26th to watch.

I wonder if they're going to have a live feed and "officially" announce the name (and also wonder if they changed it since Suze blew their cover. But if someone heard something with the name "Michael" bleeped out, then I think they'll stick with it.

Especially since they obviously had a name at the shower, since Amy has known the name for a while.

Josh and anna do not live in tontitown, they live in Springdale, not sure why the people article is saying he was born the same place Mack was born.

---

They may have gotten the town wrong, but the new baby was born in the same place as Mackynzie. She was born at Josh and Anna's home, and if they had another home birth, then this information would be correct.

The 19 Kids and Counting Facebook page says the special will air on Sunday, at 8pm. So they didn't move it to tomorrow. I'm not sure if it was originally on a different day, but it's not tomorrow. It's on Sunday.

"Also heard they toured one of the Christian colleges in Nwa lately. Hopefully they will get to go. They are very strict, trust me I went to SNU, in OKC, an d it's all girls dorm, NO BOYS PERIOD in the girls dorm. freshman have a 10pm curfew, you Have to be in ur dorm room by 10pm for roll call. Then on top of all the Christian classes that are mandatory, you have 4 times a week hour or longer church service, in which At the end you have to have you id card scanned in ordered for them to know you were there."

THIS qualifies as a college experience???? Sounds more like a convent/seminary or indoctrination/propaganda camp.

Sad.

Oh, yippie skippie, another patriarch born into Duggardom.

And ye olde 'same first initial' plan.

How creative. How profound. How completely Duggarific.

It's a minor point but Anna and Josh don't live in Springdale or Tontitown. They live in Fayetteville. When I passed their house around 5:30 last night, there were 5 cars. When I passed it again at 7 there were 7 cars. I wondered if that meant she was having her baby and, sure enough, that's what it meant. Congrats to Josh and Anna.

I wondered about that Hummer. I've seen it around town and always thought it was excessive. It was at their house last night too I think (or at least there was one Hummer on their lawn).

I attended both a Christian college and a state university and they had basically the same rules that the college that was described by a blogger as a potential school for the Duggars.

Neither school allowed boys into the dorms. I even got in trouble once when my room mate's brother left an iron outside of our door. That was at a state univeristy in the early 70's.

So do some think that because some schools had or have rules of no opposite sex allowed in the dorm that it is not a college experience? That means all those who attended schools like I did did not have actually college experience?

I look back and view both schools truely a wonderful college experience and no one can tell me elsewise. Neither school was an indoctrination or a propaganda camp. Have standards does not degate a true college experience.

==================================

The TLC interns need to be fired. I forgot to include the link with my post this morning, but at that time it said the special would air Friday at 8. It's subsequently been changed to Sunday at 8.

Sorry, just reporting it as I saw it in real time. At any rate, it's been bumped up for ratings because apparently there are some fans out there who don't know the baby is named Michael James.

Would they dare change it since they had a shower with gifts that probably included embroidered stuff with his name, just because Suze blew their cover (apparently didn't get the "hush, hush" memo...makes me wonder how close the sisters are now? (I'll discuss details in the public thread).

Public universities have revised their dorm rules in the last 40 years. Most of them have men and women on the same floor now (as long as the bathroom situation permits it). You have to specifically request a floor that is limited to one gender if that is what you want. There aren't usually any restictions on visitors in the dorm, or what time you have to be in at night either. College students are now considered adults, and their parents don't even have access to their grades.

Religilicious said...

Time always marches on. What was considered valid in 1970 may or may not be relevant or even correct, as new discoveries and new understandings have occurred in any 40 year span. Medicine, technology, human enlightenment continue along toward greater comprehension. Change has never been more rapid than it is now. Concepts and technologies become obsolete and we are all called upon to keep step with the ever-changing world. Most colleges have kept pace, since their mission is to to educate and prepare young adults to contribute in the real (and, therefore, constantly changing and growing) world.

Keeping young adults so strictly monitored and controlled as described in same-gender dorm floors and strict curfews does nothing to encourage students to take responsibility for conducting themselves as adults now that they've been emancipated from living in the parental home.

The Duggars do their offspring a huge disservice by continuing to control their even adult children to the extent they do on the Duggar compound.

Colleges have become enlightened with the times. Conversely, the Duggars raise their children for a reality that does not exist in modern times.

The Duggar parents have put their adult children at a distinct disadvantage by keeping them monitored, chaperoned, and controlled as if these Duggar adult offspring are incapble of making responsible adult decisions for themselves.

I consider Duggar parenting to be substandard on many levels. JMO.

It doesn't look like the sisters are all that close since Susanna did not end up going to the baby shower. No mention of Rebecca going, either.

I don't think whether or not a college has mixed-sex dorms or permits opposite-sex visitation or imposes curfews defines a college experience. Even if someone chooses to go to a single-sex college (and there are still a few out there), they will have a "college experience," as long as they are exposed to critical thinking, critical research, and examination/comparison of alternative/opposing views.

Someone who attends a school that presents only one possible explanation/viewpoint, and does not encourage or even permit any examination or discussion of that viewpoint that might reveal contradictions or fallacies or inconsistencies -- THAT'S the person who is not having a "college experience." They are just experiencing indoctrination.

If any of the Duggar children attend a college or university for part of their training/education, even a Christian one, I would hope that the experience would include the opportunity (yes, even "encouragement") to think for themselves and do their OWN research to determine their OWN opinions on subjects - not just those given to them by Gothard and their parents. And yes, I do accept the notion that they might still choose to believe that way, but unless they are given the opportunity and freedom to honestly examine their beliefs, it's not really a choice on their part, is it? Adults CHOOSE their lives, whatever those lives may look like. If you want to go all Biblical, that was part of the responsibility laid on humans after they ate from the Tree of KNOWLEDGE. Regardless of what our lives have been, we are all free at any time to choose something different.

Philosophical and theoretical discussions of college boarding arrangements aren't on topic here unless and until we see a Duggar in one. Thanks. :)

Also the Kellers possible family issues aren't fodder for us unless the issues appear on the show or in a book, etc.

Congratulations to Jill for being able to care for her four younger sibs/blessings all on her own. She volunteered to care for them while the rest of the clan (except Michelle) cleaned one of the newest rentals. And, it appeared she didn't have any helpers with her.

Any thoughts on the Tuesday night time slot? I'm thinking that 19K+C will certainly dwindle in viewership no matter what now that it's up against Discovery's Deadliest Catch. In fact, I found it hard to believe that TLC/Discovery would be that dumb, putting those two up against each other.

Many people have commented that Michelle seems so detached/indifferent especially when it comes to affection and quality time with her children. I noticed it too and I wonder if maybe she has a problem with depression or feelings of being anxious overwhelmed? I have no background/authority in psychology or therapy of any sort and I'm just curious....I also fear that if she does/did have an issue she wouldn't admit it or wouldn't seek the proper help.

Duggar sighting on 6/8 during the book signing tour. The two "helpers" that people saw apparently traveled with them. One has been identified as Brittany, the girl from "College" Plus, but the other girl remains a mystery; it doesn't look like Priscilla Keller. Josh and Anna are absent, which makes sense, since Anna had to save her energy for the appearances, but JD and Jana are also MIA.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/wschertz/5828407060/in/photostream/

I imagine JD had to go back to work sometime; the Hummer was IDed as his, so that makes sense. But again, it's like Where's Waldo with Jana in those days leading up to Michael's birth before she left for the Journey to the Heart on the 18th, 3 days after Michael's birth. Not sure where Montrose is, or who the Duggars could have left her with in that area to possibly leave for Gothard HQ from a closer place? I saw a picture of this year's participants and can't ID any of the Bates girls. Do the Staddons have any daughters?

And why didn't any of the other sisters, save Jill who was needed for the birth, go on this "Journey?" All four of the oldest went a couple years ago. So many questions and a picture:

http://www.livingthejourney.com/

Jana is easily spotted in the front row in white with a red undershirt.

Typo in my last post: the date of the signing was 6/9 and the poster came from Montrose, OH. The Duggars did signings in Akron and Homestead, PA that day. Mapping it out, this was more than likely taken in Akron.

Oddly, another blogger was at a signing the next day (either Columbus or Cincy) and said all the Duggars, plus Josh and Anna were there. Here is a link to that blog. Maybe she missed JD? I can't make out which signature could be his, but Jana is photographed, so she was still with the family at that point.

http://jennunbound.blogspot.com/2011/06/meeting-duggars.html

I'm not sure where in Ohio Michelle's family resides, but maybe she stayed there and didn't finish out the book tour? It would have been a much easier trip for her to get to Chicago from there than finishing out the tour in Little Rock, then having to pretty much turn around and leave again.

It had to be something legit like that; JimBob doesn't miss a chance to trot out the entire group; those kids are his bread and butter. Especially after a birth. Obviously, she missed the Saturday Today Show appearance because that was the day that she had to report to HQ in Chicago before shipping out to the camp in Michigan.

Apologies for the string of posts, but the identity of the second "helper" has been solved thanks to a sleuth at TWOP. The blonde girl with glasses is Anna Bontrager, the family who traveled with the Duggars to Niagara Falls. Looks like Anna stuck around with Brittany, the "College" Plus girl (also pictured).

Scroll down to the June 9th entry. All the girls in the picture are captioned. The blond girl with glasses seems to be the same girl pictured in my links above and recognized by bloggers as one of two "helpers" the Duggars had along on the book tour.

http://bontragersingers.blogspot.com/

Possible courtship material for JD? Girls, girls everywhere! In the book, as the Duggars describe the courtship ritual their children are going to follow, there is the "get to know you" stage in which the fathers have okayed the potential for a match; it's up to the young people to see if they're compatible. Actually, it's a test to see if the girl shows any interest in the boy. Before they even get to that stage, the boy approaches his father who must approve the girl. Once approved, he approaches the girl's dad, all unbeknownst to the young woman. Brittany is with the Duggars for a stated reason; Anna Bontrager? Not so much.

Hmmmm.....

ennvee,

I like the theory that Jana stay with Michelle's family in Ohio. It makes a lot of sense.

As a fellow Buckeye-state native I'm very interested in where exactly Michelle's family is from. Anyone have any ideas?

ennvee said...

Small correction. Anna is not a Bontrager, but she has been pictured with the Duggar girls before.

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/view?q=anna+hackel&uname=106632063052826142154&psc=G&cuname=106632063052826142154&filter=1#5620322852756232818

I think she's fairly local; the date of this picture pre-dates the Duggar trip to Colorado.

In other news, if any of the Duggar girls were pining for Zach Bates, they're going to have to put away that disappointment: he's officially courting.

http://gilbatesfamily.com/2011/06/25/its-official/

Maybe THIS is the reason Jana had to go back to the Gothard camp and why she seemed so "down" in episodes taped over the last 6 months. Her religion tells her to wait for "Prince Charming," but she's only human. It's just odd that she was the only one who went, is all.

For those who might not remember, the Reiths appeared on one of the Duggar episodes during the remodel of the Bateses' house playing some pretty awesome bluegrass.

As for the possible TLC/Discovery error in pairing up The Deadliest Catch and 19 Kids and Counting I, for one, tape both shows, and both shows are on later in the evening, as well. Another possibility is that the Discovery Channel family of networks just assumes that different types of people would be drawn to each of the shows. In my case, they would be mistaken. At my age, 68, it isn't possible to have a whole lot of vices, but a wide range of cable TV channels is one of them, as well has having the DVD option.

And yes, the Duggars do need a courtship, but how many women want their intimate moments fodder for our viewing pleasure and how many men would want JB for a father-in-law?

sandi said...

Aww too bad for the Duggar girls if any of them were interested in Zach. He's very handsome and appears to be very sweet and hardworking.
I imagine he just thought this lady might be a better fit for him though.Nothing personal, imo. She's very pretty.I wish them the best.

msrylee said...

In Duggarland, there are no intimate moments prior to marriage. We have heard it stated many times that even the first kiss is saved until marriage. However, what is reality we don't know. I think there are men who wouldn't want their daughters or sons to marry into the Duggar family, in part due to the reality show. There also probably are men who would want their sons/daughters to marry into the Duggar clan because of the show. JMO.

ennvee said...

Even though a married Duggar daughter would be living somewhere else (presumably still in the South or a border state...that's their main migration pattern), what young man trying to make his own way in the world would want Jim Bob as a Father-in-Law?

For all of Michelle's talk of "sweet Anna," that relationship seems a bit forced (Anna took away her favorite? Anna can have babies and it's looking more and more like Michelle is done? who knows). They've never shown Anna and Jim Bob relating AT ALL, although who DIDN'T laugh when she said the baby looked like Jim Bob during the ultrasound?

Religilicious said...

"For all of Michelle's talk of "sweet Anna," that relationship seems a bit forced (Anna took away her favorite? Anna can have babies and it's looking more and more like Michelle is done?"

***********************************

I agree the relationship between Anna and her MIL seems staged to appear on camera more than it is in reality. I'm guessing you might be right about it being a hard adjustment for Michelle that her DIL is now the star brood mare of the family, since that has been Michelle's sole goal and contribution for decades now.

I doubt Josh (or any of her adult kids) are Michelle's 'favorite'. Michelle, like Kate Gosselin, seems to be most interested in her children only while they are cuddly babies. Even now, with no pregnancy on the horizon, it seems that Michelle has pawned off the lion's share of Josie's care onto her grown daughters - right on schedule, about 18 mos, just like in the days when she was pregnant with the next 'blessing' by this amount of time since the previous birth.

Michelle and Kate Gosselin seem to be all about the attention grab of pregnancy and very early baby days. No one in their right mind would constantly wear that silly "My Brest Friend" get up, especially on camera, unless they WANTED attention about being a mom, and a breast feeding mom at that. Those who do not want or need this kind of attention typically find more discreet/less showy ways to breast feed their babies.

Once the kids hit the toddler stage, Michelle Duggar seems to always delegate most of the mothering to her live-in nannies, er, uh, I mean grown daughters.

hart&sole said...

To Michelle everything and everyone is 'sweet.' She and Kelly Bates have a 'sweet relationship,'everyone of Michelle's children is 'sweet,' unless they are like Joseph, 'sweet AND hardworking.' Somebody send her a thesaurus!

I never noticed any of the Duggar girls looking interested in Zach Bates, nor he in them. Maybe 20+ years from now we will see Judson Bates and Josie Duggar, ya think?

So I'm not the only who who is suspicious of Amy's claims to be Christian. After admitting on FB last night that she and Caleb were no longer an item, amongst all the "God will find the right man" stuff, Rebekah McDonald, Anna's sister, chimed to say what a lot of people out there are thinking. If you're a "friend" of Amy (who is now exhorting people to "follow" her on Twitter, further making the point to follow, here's the exchange:

Rebekah: Quit putting "God" in all this. You just love the attention. This guy wont last that long either. [OUCH!]

Amy: Rebekah if you believe that way- then I [hits enter key here] feel sorry for you. because beleiving in God is apart of me. and when the right guy comes along its definitely going to be a "God-thing!"

Remember, Rebekah's the sister who left Gothard, but remains a conservative Christian. Amy, OTOH, appears to have asked Sean to edit out the Caleb scenes she knew were to come on this episode; about 10 days ago, she asked Producer Sean to "redeem her" on his FB. He blew it off. This was between the time Anna had Michael and the Very Special Episode, so I think Sean had better things to do than go back to a show that's been in the can for five months.

In retrospect, it looks like Rebekah and right; Amy is far more concerned with her image as a Christian than actually BEING one.
