Nancy posted some Asia trip pics under the "November Open Discussion" area, and, as predicted, the family did indeed line up like monkeys on the Duggar number line at the Great Wall. And, wait for it...the girls/adult daughters were wearing skirts and FLIP FLOPS! Flip flops to climb stairs at the Great Wall! Plus, it seemed to be raining heavily and they all had rain jackets on, and STILL the girls had to wear skirts and flip flops. Unbelievable.

Also, many of us I think feel a special affinity toward Josiah, who seems to be going through such an uncomfortable stage in his life. In two of the photos, he appears to be carrying/holding younger sisters (Jordyn and Josie, respectively, I think). Does this mean that Michelle has decided that, as the "sensitive" son, he should start toting around the toddlers like his older sisters do?

I don't think Michelle cares who takes care of her blessings, as long as she doesn't have to do it. She certainly doesn't have time to do it with all the speaking engagements she does and she needs extra time to be able to look at Jim Boob adoringly every time he opens his mouth like he is the smartest, handsomest man in the world.

I visited the Great Wall in 2002 and it was a VERY difficult hike - it's not like you're just going for a stroll along a raised walkway. It's a pretty hardcore climb and every step is a different height than the next one, so you have to pay a lot of attention to where you are putting your feet. I had a hard time doing it in jeans and sneakers. I would've been very hard pressed to do it in flipflops and a skirt.

Most of the same pics, this time with an article detailing how they "did" the Great Wall. I'm curious about the "sponsor families." Were they really proselytizing there, because I think that it's against the law (unless the group is authorized?). I have no clue how that works.

I believe as well that the Mother of the Year doesn't care who cares for her blessings as long as she doesn't have to tend to their needs. She really doesn't have time with all her responsibilities, and certainly her 'private' time with her beloved husband. After all, another blessing could be announced any day. JMHO.

Sorry to go yet another round, but I just gotta say it-latest pic on Josh's Instagram of Anna & Amy at the "Joseph" show: Anna looks pregnant. Or, why on earth does she just wear the most unflattering clothes ever...

ellenorepickles said...

I think I liked the show a couple of years ago more than I do now. I don't like the contrived, bike riding, fencing, shopping trips or even the fishing trips. When did the Duggars go from being frugal and making homemade signs to shopping at Micheal's-- and buying cartloads of junk. Without new babies, or any courtships or weddings the Duggars seem to be getting pushed to be more "entertaining"I'd like more time interviewing the kids about their lives and hopes.

Nancy said...

They were at SDC both Friday and Saturday. Both days, Anna wore very unflattering clothes that I'd never seen before. Friday, she wore a red frumper with a few layers of sequins or beading around the neckline, then there was that empire print number she wore to the Joseph show last night.

I voted pregnant before, but this time, given what Josh has been posting on IG about trying to eat better, but failing two days later, I think Anna is sailing on the same ship. One apple won't mitigate the damage done by a caramel frapp.

Leigh Ann said...

If you read the story posted later, they didn't climb the wall in flip flops, they took a cable car. It sounds like the club really enjoyed having them. It also says they were all up and about and having breakfast by 8:30 a.m. They can be places on time, I think most of the time they just can't be bothered. That always makes me think of the book Cheaper by the Dozen. They only had 11 kids (one of the oldest girls died young), that's not 19, but it's still a crowd. Their dad would blow a whistle near the front door and time how long it took all of them to get down there, including remembering to bring whatever babies and toddlers there were. He would sometimes have a surprise for all of them or sometimes just tell how fast they made it and if they beat the record. They knew when they heard the whistle it was time to drop everything and run. While on the surface it was all fun and games the real reason was so that if there was ever an emergency they could get out of the house in a hurry and everyone be accounted for. If the Duggar's had a fire, I don't know if they'd really all get out in a hurry. With an intercom they can actually say "it's a fire" but I wonder how organized and speedy they would all be.

Leah said...

Anna looks just like she did the last time we thought she was pregnant. So, I'm going to assume she's not. Josh just likes posting pictures that stir the pot, and he knew she looked pregnant in this picture. What a jerk.

Count me in as someone who used to like this show, too. But the Duggars today are not the Duggars of the first specials. At all! You know you've sold out when you allow a camera to get a close-up shot of your vomiting child. I always have to remind myself: there IS a person filming this. Try and picture how this scene looks from the child's point-of-view, not the camera's point-of-view. Imagine throwing up while someone films you. Ugh, totally gives me the creeps.

Melissa said...

"You know you've sold out when you allow a camera to get a close-up shot of your vomiting child." Exactly, it's just weird and rude. We also know they've sold themselves out when they are starting to use the same excuses Kate G used "oh the kids just love the cameramen, they're like famiy. they're so used to it.... blah, blah" What is normal about being video taped all the time?

roddma said...

I may disagree with 95% of what the Duggars do but I can't understand putting them down for not getting up early. Josh's car lot isn't the only business that starts later in the morning(like he's ever there anyway). Some people are more inclined to be evening and night people and they are adjustable. It isn't meaning they are lazy. They just prefer certain times to work.

tulip said...

When the Duggars joke around about not being morning people, same with Duggar time, and they show this time and time again in front of millions, they shouldn't get any sympathy. Some people are definitely more inclined to early risers or nightowls, but the Duggars issue is showing lack of discipline, and respect, and then joke about it. They have commitments to others that depend upon them being certain places at certain times, and when they know this full well, they still show Jana cooking lunch on the stove when they were supposed to have left 10 min. ago. Same with Josh. If my family were "famous" and pulling in those TLC paychecks, as well as a Christian family, I wouldn't be showing The Today Show, or any other organization, such disrespect to the crew, who woke up and traveled much earlier to meet them at THEIR house, by lazing around in bed til the very last minute and then still complain about it because he's just not a morning person. How rude of an example when there are others who wouldn't consider themselves a "morning person" either, but have to get up and punch that time clock, or their family doesn't eat. If these people are going to promote themselves as good, encouraging, Christians, etc., they don't need to be loafing around, using lame excuses and making jokes about it.

Beth Anne said...

Re: "they didn't climb the wall in flip flops, they took a cable car."

OK, that makes me feel a little better. But, it was still pouring rain as evidenced by the photos, and those girls/adult daughters were STILL in flip flops. What is so ungodly about wearing galoshes or full-length pants to prevent the discomfort that would inevitably ensue from being bare-legged from the knee down and basically bare footed in the rain? Ugh!

Having said that, I do truly hope the kids had a good time, especially the older ones. The young ones (or "babies" as Michelle calls them, even when they are 5) may not remember this trip when they are older.

Melissa said...

Tulip, I agree the joking about it and putting it out there like no big deal (about being late) is annoying. As you said, any other job, this wouldn't work! My organization has the rule that four tardies equal one unexcused absence.
Also, isn't it weird that they can magically get up at the crack of dawn 4 am and drag those little babies out just to do a special for the Today show? If they really have such an evening schedule (which would be fine since they're homeschooled and self employed), then they should be consistent about it. I wouldn't make my toddlers wake up before the chickens just to be on the Today Show, but that's just me!

I would really like to see the girls wearing some good walking shoes on thse ventures, esp. if they did much walking on the Great Wall.I know some do the whole walking tour and they walk up to 7 hrs on day on it..flip-flops are hard on the feet,as any good Podiatrist will tell you,and they don't protect your feet very well.I hope thet get to invest in a good pair.I got heel spurs that way,and they aren't fun.JMO.

tulip said...

I wonder when/why the flip flops "style" started-in the first specials, the girls definitely didn't wear them. Actually, they wore the little house on the prairie dresses with gym shoes-I specifically remember Jana in her thrift store gym shoes and ankle socks. What really got me was in David & Priscilla's wedding video-Jill carried Mack (flower girl) down the aisle because she had her temper tantrum, and when they get to the end of the aisle, you can see Jill is wearing...yup, you guessed it, flip flops.

Josh & Anna are expecting again. At least it was strongly insinuated in a post that Josh RT on his Twitter this morning. Congrats to them! Hope it's twins this time ;)

tulip said...

Josh needs some attention?...The world was just informed yesterday that Will & Kate are expecting, so Josh is sneaking in an "announcement"?. I'm only thinking of believing this is true because it fits Josh's narcissistic way of doing things.

"Hope it's twins this time"
...why? IMO, one baby is more than enough when they already have a 1 yr. old & 3 yr. old, unless of course it will extend their show another year, and Josh can cash more TLC paychecks to add to his stash in the bedroom closet?

Elspeth said...

Which post is that exactly where Josh hints on twitter that they are expecting? I can't see anything like that. Thanks.

tulip said...

Josh Duggar twitter, click on "View more tweets"-Blake Brewer comment retweeted by Josh Duggar: A Congrats, followed by something about catching up to him & Anna once they pick a letter.

I fear that's ambiguous at best. He could have been congratulating Josh on losing 5 pounds. Although I admit the last couple pics of Anna look like she's in maternity clothes.

Re: "Tulip, I agree the joking about it and putting it out there like no big deal (about being late) is annoying. As you said, any other job, this wouldn't work!"

I agree, too! However, given that JimBob's ego is fairly large at this point, he probably feels that, because he followed the "right" blueprint for Christian living, he is able to "work" when he wants and have a very fluid schedule that allows homeschooling and other activities to take place whenever the family gets around to it. In other words, us "minions" have to get up early and be at work on time because we are beholden to our companies' rules and regulations, having not done things the Gothard way. Whereas, he is SO holy and did things SO right that he can do whatever, whenever.

Again, he doesn't realize that his freedom in this regard is courtesy of TLC paying his family big bucks for being exceptionally large, and that, conversely, there are many good Christians out there who STILL have to get up early and go to work, or their families don't eat. The ego has taken over!

I don't know if anyone commented on this or not. There is a picture of a tattooed crew member on the asia trip with them. A comment was next to it saying that, "...some people think that he and Jana are in love, LOL". Now I have to ask, what would eb so terrible if they were? Really if they trust him to be around her in the first place and he is a truly good person, what is so wrong with the thought that she might be in love with him? I would be willing to be he would treat her much better than Josh does Anna or any other Gothard husband treats his wife. From what I understand it just seems that the women folk are treated like maids and such and then are expected to lay down when ever the husband wants her to. Much like the all to common response of, "It sure is fun trying". In my opinion this is just plain and simple abuse and not at all respectful. I know there are abusive husbands outside of their beliefs, I'm not stupid. I just also think that there are far more men who live in the real world. They understand there is a give and take, and that if your wife is not into it, then chances are you are not going to have as much fun with it either. Life is not about dominating the one you "love" it's a partnership, and should respect that as well. JMO

I have another comment re: the flipflops.

I've lived in China. I apologize for the being uncouth, but a great number of the public access toilets are simply a hole in the ground. That is, a ceramic basin set into the ground that you place one foot on each side of and squat over.

Trust me that you don't want to be wearing flipflops when using these, or you will find yourself washing your waste off your feet after each use.

I sincerely hope for their sake that no one needed to use the facilities until they were back at their hotel.

Hmmm....after a post by David (Anna's brother in law who was on the show - the guy who is a little light in his loafers) mentioning they visited the Bateses, I went to the Bateses site to see if any mention was made.

Strangely, their site is scrubbed of all posts dating back to about the time when they updated the site (last May or thereabouts). Very odd...

A pity David scrubbed the story about pilfering a huge bag of pecans from a field and trying to blackmail the farmer with his upstanding Godliness (and a $100 bribe, this after complaining that a $50/night hotel in an undesirable part of town was too expensive). His emellishments about the "jolly African American" sheriff, the evil owner, and David's "cautions" about taking the pecans that he supposedly had and confessed to the cops (as well as a few nicely placed racist remarks made by the evil farmer), was pure fundie comedy gold.

I'd love to know what caused the Bateses to scrub all those posts and what kind of responses David got to make him take down one of the most unintentionally hilarious glimpses into how these Gothardites operate that we "wolves" will ever get to see.

Betsy said...

David and Priscilla are too naive to be let out alone.

Blackmail? I didn't see that. Perhaps bribe. Most of his story seemed a little too far fetched. Although if the trees had already been harvested, I'm not sure why the farmer went ballistic (if he did). Asking them to pay for the pecans that he had allowed to be left on or in the ground seems like it would have solved the problem.

Nancy said...

Thankfully, someone cached it:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:-c3h1dDRorcJ:davidlovespriscilla.com/2012/12/04/the-pecan-story/+http://davidlovespriscilla.com/2012/12/04/the-pecan-story/&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

As for "bribe" & "blackmail" I tend to use them interchangeably, although I'm aware of the semantic difference. frankly, either works here. Davey didn't want the cops to give them a citation AND tried to make amends with the owner with the money. If anything, if one wants to get picky, both happened.

Someone in law enforcement read Davey's hyperbolic post and said it could never have happened. Cops would never have passively waited for backup if a guy was running around with a cattle prod, threatening gun violence. Also, no way the first responded was a trooper. That's = highway patrol and they were miles away from anything resembling a highway. Also, how convenient that the evil owner was also a racist, some cop was tall (compared to who?), and the sheriff was a jolly black man. It had every stereotype in the book, down to the evil landowner supposedly finding the Lord a couple of days later.

All that and stilted fundie writing, always in passive voice.

Josh is such a prankster; why hasn't he posted a bag of pecans on Instagram? This happened almost a month ago!

sandi said...

Is there anywhere we can read David's post? I hate I missed that.
As for the pecans,it's called gleaning,to take what has been left behind after the harvest;however,I would never do that without the farmer's permission. That would be the gracious thing to do.JMO.

Betsy said...

No, no blackmail.

"blackmail is a crime involving unjustified threats to make a gain or cause loss to another unless a demand is met"

David made no threats that he reported.

Nancy said...

I dunno. I'd say the quid pro quo of cash for no record isn't quite the same as greasing the palm of the maitre d' at a restaurant for a prime table. ;)

Pris certainly played the emotional blackmail card, even if she didn't realize it. David, scared out of his wits, tried to defend himself by parroting the "Good Person" test to avoid trouble. When that didn't work, he offered cash.

Just take the ticket and LEAVE!

Also, a lot of those pics are stock. The truck doesn't have govt. plates, the house in the background isn't red, etc.

Patrice said...

omg. Just read David's story. It sounds like something a fifth grader wrote in creative writing class. Even for a fifth grader, I would have given a low grade. What the heck? Jolly black man? And did the farmer really say he knows black people come by and steal at night but these decent white people should know better? Good lord. The whole thing does sound like something David made up to teach the "pagans" in the world not to steal. Sorry, Davey, we already know that. These two definitely need a chaperone. I believe this is a good argument against keeping your children infantilized until marriage. They seem to have the mindset of 10 to 12 year olds. Hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

tulip said...

Just read the pecan story, and I think David & Priscilla deserved every bit of it. This is the real world folks, not the Gothard bubble. Even though the neighbors knew the farmer, they did not say, or even imply from what I read, that it would be okay to pick his pecans, let alone start filling a whole bag...look at the bag! The pic of them holding that bag-it was stuffed! That land is not public domain, it is owned by the farmer, which they knew, and it's his livelihood. That would be like walking into my next door neighbor's backyard with a basket, and just start picking apples of their tree filling my basket! Farmers can be very protective of their land, and for good reason-they should be. I really do think some of the young Gothard followers believe they can be above the law...I can think of a few examples right now of things Josh has done, and posted publicly, that were technically (or not so technically) breaking the law, and then there was Jill who knew she was breaking the law speeding, and oops!, got caught. Nice. I definitely think David was trying to bribe the farmer with the hundred dollars cash-good for the farmer for not taking it. No wonder they took down the post...bribery, "jolly" African-American? Not to mention, I can just picture David talking to these "tall" (as he described them), tough cops and the farmer holding his cattle prod and wanting a shotgun, in his khakis & loafers with his man-boy voice.

Melissa said...

wow, that pecan story is something else. I really thought David was beyond that. Now, I could expect something like that out of Josh Duggar...but David??? And, I have a feeling Priscilla was coerced into this being the submissive wife and all. Wow, wow, wow.

David edited the post (I know people) The farmer wasn't saved, the women in the Prison ministry learned a cautionary lesson about stealing!!!!!

"As we drove down the road, I asked God, 'Father, why did you allow that to happen?' The answer came just two days later when we went to the Prison and shared this story. It was the day before Thanksgiving and many of the ladies were really missing their families. This story really hit home because of some recent situations that the ladies had encountered. We encouraged them to always listen to the prompting of God’s Spirit."

Gag me with a a chocolate-looking dessert stuffed with a pecan inside.

David and Priscilla are prime examples of how Gothard's methods train people not to be able to function rationally in the real world. Josh and Anna may be delusional, but at least the show exposes them to more interactions with people unlike themselves. Not that they enjoy it, but they're semi-functional when faced with "sinners."

Speaking of...I can't link it, but I saw a NIKE x100000 pic of Jim Bob and Michelle posing at some beachfront eatery on one of their recent weekend jaunts with a group of girls...in tee-shirts and BIKINI BOTTOMS. There's a reason JB posed in the back (insert Beavis and Butthead laughter here).

That pic goes to show that they'll stoop to anything. Who knows if those girls were really fans? It could have been a prank pic, or a dare. Yet, Michelle, whose "baggage" was mowing the lawn in a similar get-up is now posing WITH HER HUSBAND who has guilted her about her what she did before they met. Egads, how many ways can you spell hypocrisy and truth--bending with these people?

This isn't a Duggar/Bates post, but it seems to be the topic of the day. I finally got around to reading David's elementary school level essay. There were several spelling/grammar errors. Maybe Gothard's institute doesn't offer post-secondary English courses. How can this couple put their brain cells together and not come to the conclusion that they shouldn't take something that doesn't belong to them? Isn't that a lesson their ultra-conservative, hyper-fundy parents would have taught them?

Strange, in the latest link to the story, all references to race and color have magically disappeared! Does our little newlywed couple read this blog too, or did Joshie get on the horn and tell them what is being said?

So many things wrong with that story. The police don't just drive around the country. Someone called the police. Priscilla didn't cry because of a gunfire threat, she cried because she was scared the police were called and they got caught doing wrong.

They said police came first, then the owner came out and yelled and had a weapon and threatened to get a gun? IF POLICE WERE THERE THEY WOULD NEVER ALLOW SUCH BEHAVIOR. They first get everyone calm and seperate everyon, hence Priscilla being put in the car. They were getting her story, DaveyBoys story, and the owners story. The fact that they received an actual cititation is HUGE! For such a minor thing they were still written up?

Priscilla's face is RED from crying and they take and post pictures? 1st think police asked Priscilla was how many months are you? Why did David even say that? If the police did say that it was to calm her down because she was scared of BEING CAUGHT NOT BECAUSE SOME MAN THREATENED A GUN.

THEY GOT CAUGHT BREAKING ACTUAL HUMAN LAWS, & RESPECT

Lawlessness & immature

Aside from all the other details called out by others here, just more proof to me David's account is beyond embellished.

Loved Josh's comment about it being an "early morning" flight. He took those pics at 10am Arkansas time. TLC must be taping, since other than Razorback football games, he doesn't get out of bed before noon.

Given his support of Michigan's right-to-work bill, I'm going to derive great pleasure watching him struggle to earn a living wage once the TLC paychecks go away. Jim Bob does NOT own the lot where Josh is presently located (he owned the 3 prior lots, though), so there's rent to be paid and some sort of salary to RD for his admin work on top of any commission he gets for selling those junkers.

Josh will be begging for bargaining rights in no time.

If it was't for this website, I would not have known it's illegal to pick up pecans from the ground. I think it's sad that someone would react that harshly to an honest mistake. If pecans are that big a cash crop, there should be signs up declaring groundfall is not to be removed.

I think these poor kids, some just born after it started, may need therapy not only from this whole experience, and not normal living, but how there treated (or lack of attention, etc) from both parents. Plus, with that horrible education, trying to make it in the real world, get a job, etc. Sadly, I think it will be very hard for them, I really hope they can do it, but they don't have the tools too!

Nancy said...

Given that they aren't from the area and were in a decidedly rural part of the state, maybe it's assumed that people know that there are unspoken rules and it's an area that doesn't get many outside visitors? That would be typical of a Gothardite homestead; much cheaper to raise megafamilies out in the middle of nowhere (ask Anna and Priscilla, whose family trailer is in the middle of Nowhere, Florida.

If I was to go to that part of the state, walk in an orange grove, and take a bag for my personal consumption (I'd need several bags to equal the profit you'd get from that one bag of nuts Davey took), I'd take my punishment and pay my fines. I live in a city, but we have plenty of fruit trees (lemons and limes grow especially well around here, even at this time of year). It's unspoken that you don't go into a yard and poach, even anything on the ground. However, if a branch hangs over into your yard and fruit falls, it's yours.

Thanks for the article, Sharla. It validates the farmer's position, whether he had cattle prods, threatened violence (doubtful...the cops would have restrained him at that point), or just yelled at a couple of kids who have no concept of real world law because they're so busy trying to be "of" it rather than "in" it.

Newsflash: trespassing, poaching, bribery...ALL against the laws of THIS world. Laws they obviously think don't apply to them. And what happened to the picture being a lesson for their son?

Poor Davey. He thinks he's in a position to be highly placed in Gothardland after the old guy kicks the bucket, but this stuff was very badly played. Heck, even if he were just a mere mortal than the rest of us, it was a failure in storytelling.

Lastly, the way all of these people write in passive voice KILLS me. Josh actually "sounds" almost human when he writes. Then again, he only writes a couple sentences at any given time. I'd love to get my hands on one of his holier-than-thou papers; something credited to Zach Bates written during Santorum's campaign was so awful I couldn't even snark on it. I think Josh's work would be more forceful than Davey's, but still arrogant. Maybe in active voice, but if so, more by dumb luck, since everything they read (except, ironically, for parts of the Bible) is written in passive voice.

I wonder if JD will ever be allowed to fly solo or if he'll always need a chaperone until he gets married? I'm sure the instructor is a Gothardite; can't have even the slightest chance of impropriety occurring. /eyeroll

Exactly. As a child, I spent many a wonderful time picking blueberries that were encountered on "with permission to walk" land. My parent's mountain acreage is not fenced off. There are some huckleberry bushes that are on the lower half. Occasionally the two closest to the road get picked clean. My Christian parents just shrug it off, despite the fact that organic Huckleberries would bring a good price at the Farmer's Market.

I think what happened is both parties over-reacted to a situation, David Keller didn't realize the full significance of being the brother-in-law to the daughter-in-law of Michelle and Jim-Bob Duggar, told a few anecdotes and now knows better. He'll have to "stick to just the facts ma'am".

Yes, that family tree is correct. David Waller married Priscilla Keller, sister of Anna (Keller) Duggar. That makes him the brother-in-law of the daughter-in-law of Jim Bob & Michelle.

Another point here is: why do these people believe that they cannot think a single independent thought? Instead of saying "I found my lost pair of shoes" they will say "I prayed and the Lord led me to my shoes". (I always think God has way more important things to do than look for shoes or other menial tasks). Now by the same token, David writes "Lord why did you allow this to happen?" Instead of saying "I was a dumbass who tried to steal this dude's pecans". Why do these people not realize that they were given a brain to think with and make some or all of their own decisions in life? More Gothard thinking-blame God for everythng, good and bad, and then you will be off the hook for everything! Why take the blame when you can get out of it by blaming "the Lord"? This whole thing is so laughable. I can't see this guy getting too far in life, somehow.

Re: He'll have to "stick to just the facts ma'am".

You nailed it! I think this was a naive, innocent, and dumb mistake that should have been filed under "life experiences" and taught the young couple to be a little more wise about conducting themselves. However, David made the situation worse by embellishing the story and pulling the "gleaning" card, then painting the farmer as a racist and making caricatures out of everyone else.

Note to David...next time, just say, "We make an honest mistake and will never again assume we can 'glean' off of someone else's land without asking!"

Alberta Rose said...

One doesn't. David Waller got a harsh learning experience about being a fringe relative of the Duggar family. What he'll probably do from now on is stick to verbal anecdotes. His days of being able to make a fanciful blog or attempting parable writing for family and friends are done. He'll have to limit himself to e-mailing or make his blog a subscriber blog.

If they get married, Amy will be a diva in a Vera Wang, while Reed stands at the end of the aisle in jeans and cowboy boots.

The pic Josh posted of himself with his two friends, he looks really heavy when right next to other people-his face is so round and puffed up, I don't see how anyone can tell him he looks like he's lost weight. It actually looks the opposite.

I had two miscarriages around 11 weeks and gained about 10 lbs. each time despite eating/living well. Despite what Michelle Duggar thinks, miscarriages happen; pretty much every woman of childbearing age his suffered a miscarriage, whether she knew it or not.

Duggars are on a caroling spree tonight; seen at Hobby Lobby, WalMart and the Fayetteville Town Square where they apparently handed out candy canes with tracts (hopefully not Ray Comfort's atrocious "$100 bills") attached.

All filmed for posterity.

I hope JORDYN gets a birthday party OF HER OWN filmed on her OWN birthday, which is the 18th (tomorrow, if this is posted soon, today, if posted as I expect, or the 18th if you're reading this at a later date).

Nancy said...

Apologies for piggy back posting, but there might be a story with the caroling. Three months ago, a guy named Kaden "hung out" (according to his younger brother) at Silver Dollar City (AGAIN? Sheesh!) three months ago. He's pictured with Jinger in one while another brother (?) is sitting between Jinger and Jessa in a van during the same trip (Kaden is seen in the back). This guy appears to be the polar opposite of David Waller (no combover, wears tee shirts).

Same family is caroling with the Duggars tonight. There wasn't anything going on when they taped the talking heads after the Waller wedding, but that was last February. Jessa and Jinger were absent a lot this summer. Maybe Jinger was at HQ at Gothard music school, maybe she and Jessa were visiting this family?

Time will tell; these girls are getting up there into Old Maid territory in Gothardland. Then again, my fervent hope is that few marry and those that do marry late, raising fewer children in the lifestyle....IF they stay in after Billy G shuffles off this mortal coil.

Alberta Rose said...

Given the number of children Michelle had in her 30's and early 40's, even those who marry later in life will still have more then the Mainstream Societal standard of 1-2 children. Also, the Bible clearly states the widows and orphanns are to be cared for, which means some might get married in their late 20's and adopt children. The Duggars are like anyone else, they don't 100% follow a human leader. In their case they have never 100% followed Gothard.

Melissa said...

wow, that would be interesting indeed if Jinger (fourth in line of girls) gets involved in a serious courtship and married off first. Although, that worries me- Alberta Rose, I agree with other women who post on here- that the LONGER these girls can wait to be married off, the better... Even if they get married in late 20s, they'll have considerably less children (if they follow inherited their mom's "fertile" genes- they'll get pregnant every 13-18 months if they follow the same cultural/religious beliefs after getting married)....
I think we all just desire for these young girls to stay safe, healthy, and happy.

sandi said...

Melissa said...

Alberta Rose, I think the point that some of us are trying to make is that if the girls can wait to get married til late 20s/early 30s, they'll have considerably less children (even if they have a lot of kids that are considered "more than mainstream"). Only have 10 kids as opposed to 20 kids is still a huge health benefit for these young women who are subjected to this culture.

SisiL78 said...

Somehow I don't think that the Duggars would mind Michelle having a health scare and/or another miscarriage or special needs child. They will sugar coat it and milk it for all it's worth.
Jubilee wasn't a baby to them, it was a way to continue interest in their brand.

As much as they talk about children being blessings they sure don't treat them as such. JMO, but I think if Michelle was to die during pregnancy we'd see JimBob back on television after some minimum amount of time with some reality version of father knows best, complete with him looking for a new mother for his children.

I don't think there is a limit to the fame wh*re attitude these people have.

Alberta Rose said...

I think we all just desire for these young girls to stay safe, healthy, and happy.

There are different levels of health. For example, I am happy and emotionally healthy until someone questions and judges my lifestyle choices. It's one of the reasons why I like the Duggar family so much. They help offset those who feel that I'm living life wrong. It's also why I come here. I don't pity Duggars. I admire them. I don't embrace every single they do but I'm definitely like them, not marching to the Mainstream Societal drummer.

Nancy said...

Most people don't march to the Mainstream societal drum, although I know people who have to own this kind of car and live in that neighborhood and attend that church for social contacts.

However, where the Duggars lose me is their condemnation of people who make choices that they don't approve of. No one is stopping them from being hyper-religious zealots, but if they had more power they'd take away every right that society has worked so hard to earn. If I'm gay atheist, or want to have some wine, buy a lottery ticket, dye my hair green, and/or have an abortion, what business is it of theirs?

FWIW, some of the brightest young people I know have hair colors that don't occur in nature. The Duggar daughters themselves alter their hair color (especially Jana, whose gone from natural dirty blonde to blonder, and now back to her natural color). Jessa's gotten some highlights as well. And Jinger? Jury's out, but her hair was more of a regular brown before she started crunchy-perming it (glad she's let her hair relax).

What makes them (and people like them, ie. Gothard, the Wallers, etc) the arbiters of society, especially given their choice to isolate from a lot of it; they don't even know about half of the stuff they criticize, the stuff they say about us "wolves" (and yes, that's what they call anyone who isn't in the Gothard cult, including mainstream Christians, who are their main targets) is ludicrous.

They talk about de-regulating government and all that, but ironically, their lives are all about rules and regulations. At least the Bateses cut the cord a LITTLE bit by allowing some of their kids to go to that Clown College, but when you dig into what goes on there, the students are treated like children, down to bedtime!

They don't even get the paradox of their lives. I think most of us here just want the kids to have the same ability to CHOOSE this lifestyle for themselves, and be allowed to leave it without fear of repurcussions, if they CHOOSE. Joy's already been to indoctrination camp twice in less than a year; the other girls didn't start going until they were in their later teens. Looks like they see that someone needs to be put back in line.

Re: "They help offset those who feel that I'm living life wrong."

Be proud of who you are! I know you might feel "validated" by what you see with the Duggars on T.V., but if you feel you are living the life you were meant to live, then feel that joy, no matter what anyone else says!

I think a lot of us at one time enjoyed having the Duggars on T.V., because they DID represent something "different." They were openly Christian, seemed to love one another, and appeared at the beginning to work diligently at making a good home. Over time, however, much of the legalistic stuff starting to come out, and investigating all the Gothard, ATI, etc. stuff turned me off quite a bit. I agree with what Nancy said about they don't even know about half of the stuff they criticize, and it makes me upset that they assume anyone outside their isolated world is so evil and wolf-like. Jesus was out in the world, not isolated from it, and therein lies the hypocrisy that has made me an "un-fan."

Alberta Rose, I understand that there are different levels of happiness. I am not trying to make them change their beliefs, etc. However, as a nurse, I see a definite safety risk in birthing 20 children. The girls may not be as fortunate as Michelle has been with only having extreme complications with the last two children.

Furthermore, adding on to that... the girls may not get so lucky to have a husband who has a stay at home business and is helpful with the children (the way Jim Bob seems to help with the youngsters..one thing I do admire about him-he says his FAMILY is his HOBBY). We all see the negative consequences on Anna with the way Joshies helps (or doesn't help) her.
At any rate, Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Elvira said...

I don't think TLC tries to make the Duggars look bad any more than they tried to make Kate Gosselin look bad. I think in the beginning of each series, they try to select only the better parts and leave out a lot that is truly there. We get "sanitized" families in the beginning. As the people get more used to being filmed and think of the crew as friends instead of workers, more and more of their natural behavior appears before the camera. The editors either get tired of them or are directed to let more of the real people through and thus we see more of who they truly are and less of what the family wanted to project at the beginning of the show.

The old adage of they can't show what you didn't say applies. Although as the shows get older, there is more for the editors to splice together. But still given hairstyle and clothes there is only so much the editors have to work with. Kate Gosselins temper tantrum over pizza in the RVs couldn't have been manufactured. Poor Jordyn's orphaned and super sad expressions are there too often to be editing.

sandi said...

I want to add,I don't know how the contracts w/ tlc work or what they state, but I know with some other reality shows, like American Idol for instance,in the contract it says that they can portray you any way they want.So if they want to edit to make you appear stupid, clueless, selfish,or whatever other negative portrayal they can come up with, once you sign the contract, that's it,you have already agreed.
That said, that's probably why tlc was allowed to film and show Anna's toiiet birth..contract signed, they had no choice but to agree.JMO.

Ah lucky Jinger. For her 19th birthday, she got special "parent time" sponsored by a local radio station who had the three of them come in for a Cubicle Judging Contest. I'm sure TLC filmed it to show that HEY, the girls CAN work in an office.

Not unless it's a cubicle for Gothard, and for some reason I bet he doesn't allow cubicle spaces.

I wonder what her birthday gift was; in the spirit of the hospital gift shop and the pawn shop, she probably got a secretary's coffee mug (hey, she likes coffee!). If she was lucky, she even got some stale coffee. Yay!

I wonder whether or not Jim Bob or Michelle have ever stopped to analyze how they are raising the children. It seems they take what Gothard says at face value.

Speaking of Josh, I wonder about that rumor that TLC was taping at a cardiologist's office a few weeks ago and voila! all of a sudden, Josh is attempting to diet and exercise and posting articles about 1st born children in China apparently having the propensity for diabetes. Sure, his article about Chinese children had more to do with the one-child policy, assuming all Chinese children are first-born, therefore more prone to be diabetic.

Josh is first born too. I wonder if he was at that doctor and got some scary bloodwork results, hence all the pictures of apples, unsweetened iced tea, and sad attempts at weightlifting.

There are secular people who expect their children to not question how they are being raised. I've helped enough co-workers deal with that sort of thing to know it's definitely not a Gothard or even religious household.

The oldest twins of the Duggar family aren't questioning their parents, they're just quietly living life differently by postponing marriage and not being on camera as much as they used to be. Being a midwife is a very demanding profession. It's not a decision you make lightly, and it's definitely not a "man catcher" career choice. John David seems to be branching out from the towing business to doing some landscape cleanup and repair. That might be fun but when you're starting up a business, you don't think too much about courting.

It really makes me feel bad for the guys that work there, knowing that they're busting it to make a paycheck, while the owner goes galavanting all across the country. He has got to be the only local, small business where the owner is never there. Honestly, I don't see his lot staying open too long after the show ends.

The elder blessings may indeed be living their lives differently than their parents, but again we truly don't know. Are they making their own choices or are their choices made for them? JMHO.

Happy New Year and take good care.

Beth Anne said...

Re: "Being a midwife is a very demanding profession."

Not to nitpick on New Year's Eve (Happy New Year's, everyone!), but Jana, the oldest twin, is not a midwife. You may be referring to Jill, but Jill is not a midwife, either. She is a lay apprentice, and there are links elsewhere to what that means, which is NOT a highly licensed role with stringent education requirements. I am not dissing Jill for doing the apprentice work, I am just pointing out that we cannot call her a midwife, because she is not one.

I agree that Jana and John David are "different" in the sense that they didn't marry at age 17 or 19, like their parents, but their life pattern is still similar, with the expectation that they live at home during pre-approved "work" until marriage. I know, I know, other children live at home until married or do only what their parents want, but I think the thing most of us cringe at is that the Duggar's profess Christianity, but discourage exploration of interests or living conditions (i.e., Jinger in the city) that God might actually intend for them to explore. Each young adult Duggar should listen to his or her own inner voice and, through individual, private prayer, discover God's path for him or her. You may argue that those children DO this already (Jill's a midwife! Jinger's a photographer!) but JimBob and Michelle would NOT allow Jinger to move to the city, get an apartment, and try to start up a photography business, even if God is all for it!

sandi said...

IDK about making their own choices, but it appears Jim Bob and Michelle have a say about what is put out there for public consumption.I.E.-Josh and Anna proclaiming they will let God decide their family size.(That is JMO though, feel free to think what you want about it). It's in the 2nd Duggar book as well.

Nancy said...

Just to be super clear about Jill and Jana, NEITHER are lay midwives. According to the official website set up by the woman with whom the Duggar girls assist at births, Jill is an "Apprentice Midwife" (hasn't she had that title for something like 2 years now?) and Jana is a "Birth Assistant" (ie. Jill's chaperone). They both have email contact addresses, but, not surprisingly, no phone numbers as do the other Apprentices. Poke around and you'll find the site is strongly religious (quotes the "Quiverfull" Psalm verse) and pro-life. Definitely have to be a certain kind of person for this group to deliver your blessings.

Regarding the question of if the Duggars are compensated for their many visits to Silver Dollar City. Obviously they are financially compensated when they film there, through TLC. Now even if it were free, there would have to be more to it for me to pack up twenty or more people just to go visit the place every month or two. It seems that it would soon become boring. How much fun can there be in packing up and driving there, then shepherding around all those small children. Pushing strollers and keeping an eye on the rest. Waiting in line for rides, constantly having to take small children to the bathroom or to change diapers. Feeding everyone, and what to do during nap times? No, just having it be free wouldn't be enough for me, especially if I were Michelle, Boob, or Smugger. So why do they do it?

I think the answer lies in the multiple photographs of them standing there with a crowd around them having their pictures taken with their fans. I think they keep going back because they need the attention and the admiration they get there. I've heard they're really not well liked in their own town, so why not drive a couple hours to a place where they're treated like stars?
