Tuesday, February 17, 2015, 9:00 PM, Jill"s Secret

The episode could also be named Jill kept a secret for all of about 10 seconds.

The TLC description does not want to copy.  Basically lead up to Jessa's wedding including fake drama of how will they get it done and Jill shares a (completely expected) announcement.  Oh how will the Duggars react?

Ratings:  3.328 M viewers and a 1.2 rating.

Oh how will the Duggars react?? Hummm let's see. With the same over the top, staged, reaction as they do to any other big surprise. From the promos it looks like they must have been on 'Take 27' based on the older girls reactions. Why have the sit down announcement when I am sure Jill called her family before the stick dried.

Isnt staging stuff and passing it off as real... lying?

Wow. It hasn't been a secret for months.

Jill already WAS at her parents' house when she urinated on it. It was at her sisters' suggestions that she take the test in the first place... some "surprise".
It is a shame that all of the Duggar kids are starved for interaction and affection across the board and age appropriately so. Jill was obviously "skin starved" for anything other than a chaperoned hand holding and only AFTER an engagement announcement is made. So, she was finally able to give derickdillard a kiss on the cheek in broad daylight and in public no less, was able to actually hug him and know what that feels like, and finally was able to sleep with him, etc..
How dare they say that "dating" has NO purpose..what do they know about dating? It is a learning experience all around. One does not have to include sex in dating. A maturing person learns a great deal about themselves and about other people out there during that process. Dating does indeed have a purpose and for the Duggar girls, who have never had any experience in that area of life to absolutely comment about what it absolutely is or isn't is insulting to the rest of the world. Has anyone EVER really explained to them what dating is like they have explained to us what courting is? IMO, courting is a waste of time as no one knows one another before marriage at all, except for surface approved information.

Rosie Banks said...

Its so ironic that they need do much accountability, dont they trust them? Ha.

Carol said...

I was watching the Bates and saw Alyssa and her husband comment on how their conversations have gotten "more real" since they were married. Thankfully they look happy but they really hit the nail on the head as to the weakness of courting. Everyone is on their best behavior. No one would say anything that might be reported as unorthodox to m and dad. The true measure of a person is how they act when there is no one watching!

Anonymous said...

The Duggars have the nerve to have that quote about "when no one is watching" in their kitchen, yet they give none of their children the opportunity to live that out and prove it to themselves and everyone else.

Anonymous said...

I don't have tv so don't see the ads for the show. But let's face it. The Duggar show is all about sex. How not to have it, when not to have it, when to have it, how to show off that you get to have it, how to keep having it, etc., etc. This might be the most sex-laced show on tv. The very title, "19 Kids and Counting" directly implies sex and pregnancy. This show was never predicated on loving one's children and parenting them well, but on owning one's children and getting them ready for marriage and sex. Lots and lots of sex. What a sham.

Anonymous said...

Couples should have "real conversations" before they marry; not these uncomfortable, on display surface talk they have during courting, as no one is relaxed and themselves as they are "being watched". It's just so backwards, it's painful. What if something discovered after marriage that normally would have been revealed prior to the wedding were said or discovered? They're already married; can't change your mind...So sad for all of them as they marry strangers.

Well said and I agree with you completely. This show has no real purpose for being on television, other than flaunting their private life activity and their religious beliefs. Yet they deny that this show is about either of these, yet all of them. They consistently speak in circles and don't answer the real questions that we all want explained.

Anonymous said...

I will not be watching this sham this season....good god we know that Jilly Muffin (what a sick name Jim bob bestowed on the princess of the family...he IS a sicko) is pregnant, having a boy and by the time the season is over he will have been born.
The younger kids will be obnoxious on camera and the older kids will have to go on educational field trips with the family.
YAWN!!!

Carol said...

I sincerely hope that Jill has all boys. Or at least the first six. Maybe that way they can avoid turning the girls into servants a la Mikinzie (or however you spell her name). Not fair making her responsible for her brother only a year younger than her.

Anonymous said...

They need to just scrap whatever footage they already got for this season and show the wedding (which we all want to see!) a very brief bit about dear, sweet Jilly Willy and her baby Dilly and then how about 1 episode about each of the kids minus the bangs and the boob?
At the rate they are going they are going to lose all the viewers, they are showing all old news.

I agree with you 100percent. I am sick of their dos and don't and when too's. Ughhhhh. Ole' boob is one sick ticket. What a crazy life they lead. Sad for the kids.

I'm pretty sure that the Bates fam read through all these postings and compiled a list of what annoys people about the duggars and do their best to not do that. Just watched their shows on demand and they are actually not creepy. No talk about anyone's sexual status. Full frontal hugs for the boyfriends even! Still weird courtship rules but I don't see Gil or Kelly exercising the degree of control Michelle And JBoob do.

--------------------------------------------------------
I saw this clip and questioned why TLC or Boob and Mechelle would have wanted to film it. I guessed they wanted to dangle it in front of us so that we will tune in. You know......for ratings.

I wonder what Jill's secret could be? hmmmmm........
By the time TLC gets to showing us the birth (I hope Jill and Derick opt not to) baby Dilly will proably be 1 yrs old.

Anonymous said...

Im sorry, but if anyone, let alone my child had a seizure while filming, I would have told them to shut it off and told them, no more! I guess they figured it will make great tv and high ratings. There are no surprises left, they told People magazine everything, unless Michelle did invitro fertilization and has 6 more blessings, move on....

Pam said...

Shame on the Duggars. My son had 7 seizures in one day and it was horrible and terrifying. No way would I want that filmed. It makes me sick.

Anonymous said...

Whaat, Jim Boobie nicknamed Jill as Jilly Muffin? I thought it was something someone here had come up with. Eek, that makes it much more creepy and I feel uncomfortable using it now.

Rudy Tecat said...

Wait...Jill is pregnant? Why didn't anybody say "spoiler alert"?

Anonymous said...

I have always been a huge fan of the Duggars. But the last few seasons Michelle and Jimbob just make me want to vomit. I still enjoy the kids. But after watching the Bates you really see just how cult like Jimbob has raised his kids in comparison. Truly sad. I truly wish the Bates show was more popular than The Duggars. Its way more watchable. They are more real. The Duggars kids are plastic in comparison they have no comparison because they are always "on" for the cameras. And Michelle's fake mickey mouse voice is so stupid.

Anonymous said...

I have a question about the baby rules. So the women are told to always "be available" to fulfill their husbands' righteous desires or whatever, is there any obligation to the men to do the fulfilling? Like are they allowed to abstain if they feel like it? I never hear that discussed.

Anonymous said...

I actually would watch it if she was going to give birth to her own child by herself.

Anonymous said...

Yesterday I watched the rerun of the wisdom teeth episode. Jill was quite frightened of the procedure and Boob said that Jill is afraid of needles and pain...How in the world is she going to deliver baby dilly? I sincerely hope that girl is going to a hospital to deliver where they can help her out with any need; forseen OR otherwise... Jill seems to act like this is going to be a piece of cake for her and is prepared to do it every 1.5 years for the next 30 years? Wake up, girl.

Anonymous said...

Michelle delivered the majority of her babies at a hospital--why shouldn't Jill? and Anna, for that matter.

Anonymous said...

Because at home deliveries get better ratings.

Anonymous said...

I don't understand the obsession with cupping hands around the belly to show off a pregnancy. It's not like the Duggars invented pregnancy. But they probably think they did. For being "modest" Jill sure does wear form-fitting tee-shirts around that ever expanding pregnant belly. Does she think there is a prize for having the largest belly prior to giving birth?

Wampascat said...

Shoot, we all know they're a bunch of hypocrites. Michelle will fuss at Josie for taking her little jacket off at the wedding, but show her stripped down and passed out on an ER gurney for ratings. Don't show knees while water skiing, but spread those thighs and say cheese for that toilet birth, Anna! Big payday!!! Don't hold hands before you're engaged, but lick the icing off your husbands fingers! And hump your wife on the golf course! Oh, and don't give a second thought to weirdos with foot fetishes tuning in each week!

Jill L said...

Saw the preview for tonight and the Dillard's must have kissed 6 times while eating dinner. We should guess to see how many times they kiss in the premier. My guess is 25.

Anonymous said...

Just spotted a People mag cover of Jessa & Benseewald. Sounds like they are planning to adopt.
There is also that steamy photo of them kissing with the tagline "sexiest Duggar alive".

Allison said...

Fifteen minutes in and I'm already so annoyed. Did Michelle really say: "It's only been 2 weeks since Jill's wedding and we're already planning another wedding"??? Seriously??

Also they are overlapping Jill's pregnancy and Jessa's engagement but they happened two months apart?! TLC must think viewers are just idiots. Ugh.

Boy Michelle has the crazy eyes going in full force. I thought the little girls sleepover was cute and sweet of Jill. Jessa and Ben seem much closer .

Anonymous said...

Zoey: My thoughts exactly as to why would Josie still be spoon fed? She is 5 years old...?
That "we're expecting" scene was totally fiction and staged. Jill was at the house, took it there at the suggestion of her sisters. They already knew..doesn't Derick have a family? His mother didn't know or they didn't bother to include her?

Anonymous said...

Zoey, I was thinking the same thing about Jill feeding Josie. Shouldn't she be feeding herself at 5 years old?

Anonymous said...

Ha ha, I loved Michelle's reaction when JimBob said "she may end up,angling more than you did."

Allison said...

I thought it was totally weird too, but then I thought maybe Josie has some motor control functioning problems that they haven't talked about. I mean, we have seen footage of her having a seizure, so she can't be completely healthy, right? I don't know, just a guess.

Either that, or Jill is just that desperate for a baby.

Anonymous said...

Worse, Anna gave birth on that bed. And let's not forget the toilet-baby she had, because giving birth on a toilet is so much better than in a hospital. Cannot stand Anna Duggar, baby obsessed wingnut!

Bonnie Washington said...

I was watching Jill set out the snacks for the sleepover and I couldn't believe the amount of sugar. No fresh foods at all. The Duggar diet is really unhealthy. They even have a soda fountain in that huge kitchen at Duggar central with no diet coke option. With Josie's digestive problems it would have been a good time to revisit the whole family's diet. These parents are setting their children up for life failures on multiple fronts.

I missed the beginning of the show, was Josiah part of the opening credits? I didn't see him during the parts of the episode I saw, was he mentioned or shown at all?

Watching the 2 hour special, waiting for the new show. I forgot how awful those bridesmaid dresses were and how odd they all were at that wedding. Loved Anna's comment, judging by that first kiss, i bet we'll have neices and nephew's very soon, lol

Anonymous said...

Apple clearly does product placement on this show!

Tater Tot said...

Thank goodness Jessa was trying to be considerate with her bridesmaids' dress choice -- something with sleeves, someting long enough. She knows how to shop around. Smart kid and good for her. Although they could have been a lot more formal....

I loved Grandma Duggar's comment about $100 for a bridesmaid's dress being the going rate. Um, even higher than that, too!

Didn't like the two-hour buildup of "nothing" (I forwarded through it) to the "big announcement" which of course they broadcast several times before the premiere even aired.

Dar said...

I haven't seen the Jessa's wish list for her wedding gifts, but she sure wasn't going to make a big deal of the people who attended. She stated she wanted about 1,200 guests. (And I think she considered that to be a small number). She sure wasn't prepared to give that number of people a nice meal. Hot dogs and ice cream was what she planned. I'll bet there were quite a few expensive items on that registry. The guests should should have been told to just throw your gifts in the door and then leave. The wedding was just a money grab or gift grab, if you will.

Jessa also did not much care about the bridesmaids or their opinions regarding the dresses. The one we saw on the door was just ugly. It certainly was not for young, pretty girls. I guess Jessa thought that all attention should be on her anyway. I don't think TLC has done this family any favours. Being on television and being the focus of so much attention has created some very unlikeable traits in some of the older siblings.

BLB said...

Jill fed Josie the cereal because instead of using a real dish, she used a styrofoam bowl. A five year old eating by themselves with that flimsy bowl would make a giant mess and not get much food out of it.

Michelle seems completely uninterested in helping to plan Jessa's wedding. And who serves just ice cream at a reception for 1000 people? This is CRAZYTOWN!

It's all crazytown in Duggar-land. I propose a drinking game in which the participants down a shot every time Jill and her hubby/best friend kiss and every time Jim Bob says "grandduggars."

Missy said...

After seeing a repeat of Anna giving birth to Marcus this morning, I have to admit I'll be furious if they choose not to show Jilly Muffin with her legs spread apart while being filmed giving birth. It's not that I'm anxious to see Jill exposed that way, but to think what they have done to Anna with regard to filming the births of her children, I think it's only fair that Jill be subjected to the same indignities. After all they call Anna their, "daughter-in-love," why should she endure being filmed that way while Jill ends up covered up. I haven't heard it mentioned but I'm sure Jill will have a home birth given her involvement in midwifery, if even for a brief period of time.

Anonymous said...

BLB: Just how many sets of real dishes did Jill ask for on her wedding registry? It's ludicrous for anyone to feed a 5 year old Fruit Loops...something is amiss with Josie; it's obvious by the way she is uncoordinated and makes a mess of everything. It's not Josie's fault; it's the fault of the "adults" who should be in charge of her and get her the assistance she needs.

A priceless comment from Jim Bob to Michelle about Jill having more babies than Michelle....did anyone notice the change in Michelle's expression? It went blank...she was NOT a happy grandma-to-be again AT ALL. No one should out due her record....Selfish bitchy spoiled brat of a girl...is Michelle.

Anonymous said...

The Duggars seem to carry the side hug technique to the extreme. Sisters side hug each other and Michelle side hugs the girls. Weird.

Anonymous said...

Re Jessa's dresses. If your mom isn't the least bit interested in your wedding then it's up to you to do it yourself & the Duggar girls are not exactly stylish or knowledgable in these type of things. I don't think they know what an average wedding consists of. They know they about registering for gifts & I'm sure dad was more involved in the gift part than mom was, but they have no idea about the size of the average wedding & certainly not what type of food is appropriate. You can't blame a girl that hasn't been off the compound except under her parents guidance for trying to throw together a wedding with only her sister's wedding as a guide.

Carol said...

When you invite people to your wedding and you know they're coming from far away you at least owe them a sandwich. On the other hand this is par for the course for cheapo duggars and anyone attending must really have syncophantic tendencies they're satisfying so maybe it's a fair trade off.

Carol said...

One more thought - in NJ we "pay for your dinner". Cash only gifts for weddings. I was surprised to learn when I was at college that other parts of the country give actual registry items, but, again, they have crappy food at their receptions.

I didn't watch the whole episode but it seemed like a repeat of last year. I am noticing that the older she gets the more behind Josie appears. She acts like a toddler in the interviews and does NOT talk like a 5-year-old. I think that Michelle and Jim Bob are so wrapped up in themselves and all their public appearances that they are ignoring their blessings. I have watched this show for many years and they are not the same people that they were when the show first went on the air. Fame has definitely changed them.

Betsy said...

I know every Duggar wedding there is wailing about the food. It is quite normal for their social group just as a sit down meal is for others. They would be talked about if they served a meal by their friends. There is a reason that their weddings are at 1, 2, or 3 pm. People know that they are getting a very light reception afterward at those hours. I have attended many, many weddings like this and it as cultural for them as feeding people is for others. It isn't uneducated, it's what they see at the other weddings that they attend.

Anonymous said...

I was thinking about how in the first episodes, we saw how they actually saved money - went thrift store shopping and made their own detergent. In this episode, saving money was so staged. Jessa just kept saying she wanted her wedding to be cheap, cheap, cheap. We didn't see how she accomplished that (or how much the wedding dress cost) but even if you are frugal, who says they want their wedding to be cheap. You dont have to spend $20 grand (although Jim Bob said the weddings average 10-20,000 - I have no idea how, they avoid the biggest expense of catering, drinks and decor) But even if you don't want an elaborate wedding, if your family has some money, I don't see why you would keep saying you want your wedding to be as cheap as possible. That's something you would say if you were broke. It's still an important day, and you still have 1000+ people coming to see you. If she truly wanted it to be cheap, she could have gone to the courthouse. That whole wedding planning scene seemed so staged to me, just to show viewers they haven't changed. Yeah right.

Anonymous said...

After watching the Bates family, and how they react with their kids the more disgusted I become with the Duggars. Michelle could not have acted any less excited about helping Jessa plan here wedding. Jessa is pretty full of herself and Ben is really nervous on camera or just plain stupid.

This TLC timeline is driving me crazy, Michelle says it's two weeks after Jill's wedding and were already planning Jessa's wedding. Jessa says we have two and a half months to plan the wedding. Jill made her announcement in July. Both TLC and the Duggar's think were stupid, they need to stop all this overlapping. And I thought the way Jill made her announcement was goofy.

I will never understand why these people take so many tests. Do they not know how HcG levels work? You'll get the best results after you've already missed a period. Even the early result tests have a lot of false negatives if taken before a missed period. If you think you may be pregnant, just take your prenatals and wait for your period. If it comes you're not pregnant, if it doesn't, then go get a test.

Sharon said...

A couple of things-

1) Does Jill's pregnancy seem like the longest pregnancy ever in the history of conception?

2) I wonder what the Duggars give as wedding gifts? Do they always re-gift, or do they buy off the registry?

3) If I remember correctly, all the boys were dressed alike for both weddings. I have never been to a wedding (and I have been to a lot of weddings) where family members who are not part of the wedding party are all dressed alike. I may be wrong in my memory of Jill's wedding and the few pictures I have seen of Jessa's wedding, but I seem to recall that they were all dressed alike. Is it because TLC pays for it, or is it because it makes a better picture for promotions? Were the younger boys ushers?

4) Derik has a job and Ben does not. Could that be a subtle push from Jim Bob to Ben that if he wants perks, he needs to get on the ball and make some money?

5) A lot of weddings I have been to, where money is tight, the head count was large, OR the couple were young, don't serve a meal. I grew up in the southwest, and that was common for that place and era. I remember that it was not until I was married for 15 years and living in another state that I met a woman from New Jersey who said she married a man from Colorado, and they had a wedding shower for her, in Colorado. She was expecting cash and a huge meal, and she got punch and cake and the first gift she opened was a blender. She had also been married for 15 years, and was still shocked about it. She could not imagine that someone gave her a blender. I think that for a wedding of 1,000 people (with no RSVP's) this is common for their peer group.

They take pregnancy test over and over, because thats all they know and all they think about. It's been drummed into their heads No college, just get married (mostly to strangers) then start having kids. These kids are robots, they seem so plastic and unhappy. I seriously hope they are allowed to watch the Bates new show. They might realize how goofy Jim Bob and Michelle really are. At least the Bates kids joke around with each other, they act really happy, and they have jobs and some attend college.

I saw an item about the Duggars on GMA this morning. I felt sorry for George Stephanopoulus having to report such nonsense -- it was basically about how Jessa and Ben are planning to adopt and didn't know they would have to be married for two years to do it. Where are they getting the 40-50000 they need to adopt a child? They are also being pretty mum about biological children.

While watching one of the reruns of Jill's wedding I thought I heard Jim Bob say to Jessa that he didn't think he was ready to give another daughter away. Jessa looked at him and said "you wouldn't want us to go elope now, would you? I hope I heard that right. She's definitely more outspoken than Jill!

Anonymous said...

The show last night was just a disjointed mess. All of that hopping from one topic to another and back again was just awful. The timeline was way off - Jessa got married in November, Jill announced her pregnancy in July and if there was a 2 and a half month planning period for the wedding they wouldn't even have started till mid August I would think. One more observation - these people are terrible actors.

Looks like Jill & Derrickdillard announced the news to his family over Skype. That must be a big letdown for his mom & stepdad after Jill's side of the family was given the news in person and on TV. Maybe the 2 of them had to watch the episode to hear the news of their coming grandchild.

When I got pregnant, my husband and I were able to tell his parents in person the next day. Even though it was tempting to pick up the phone, I waited another week until we were able to get together with my parents. This is important news and should be shared with immediate family in person if at all possible.

Anyone who is not of direct Duggar bloodlines is a 2nd class citizen and treated as such on the compound. I'm out of the country and unable to watch the episodes right now. I think I will save time and just read comments here. When I do watch the show, I end up fast-forwarding most of it anyways. Can't stand JB & Michelle in the talking heads segments.

Who serves ice cream for an outdoor reception in November when it's 50 deg? To conpound that disaster, serve iced tea to drink with that? What is wrong with these people? I was a little horrified when Derrick made the comment that Jill had said they used to have to run to the bathroom with some food to make sure they got some (not sure of the exact wording). And did you see the look Jill gave him? That's a horrible endorsement for having a big family.

Also I felt a little bad for Michelle when JB made the remark about Jill maybe having more babies than her. It's after all, Michelle's "claim to fame" (I mean that in a nice way) and I thought JB was insensitive. But what should I expect, right?

It was good to hear in last night's episode that the Duggars let Grandma take a break from laundry duty so she could scrub the moldy spots in the house Ben and Jessa will be renting. That woman is a saint! Or maybe more accurately, a slave.

It does not take $40-50k to adopt domestically. I'm fact, if they were to adopt through the state of Arkansas it would essentially be free.

The Seewalds don't even have speaking engagements to claim as a job. Jessa is going to show up at some "women's show" and answer questions about herself. All this makes them look idealistic and/or lazy.

Mocking others' comments may likely be rejected.

I'm not at all interested in reading and moderating a home birth vs hospital birth debate or an epidural vs no pain med birth debate. The Duggars obviously are not opposed to hospital births as Michelle had several of them. How Jill gives birth is hopefully her decision. The other issues have been beaten to death over the years of Duggars being on TV.

To the person who said the wedding was cheap, cheap, cheap. Jim Bob says he spent anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 on the wedding. I still am baffled how.
They had volunteers make a lot of the desserts they served and they don't offer a hot meal. With Jessa's hot dogs and ice cream can't cost that much. They don't hire a Dj or I highly doubt a professional photographer. They got the cheapest bridesmaid dresses they could for Jill's and Jana did the alterations as well as make ties for the boys. I am really shocked if he spent that much on any of the weddings.

Jessa and Ben now receive their own separate pay checks for interviews, appearances and the TV show episodes. They are paid handsomely for all. They are NOT broke. They also live in a house although remodeled and hopefully cleaned out of mold, provided by Jim Bob....they have money to continually eat out, etc. That's for now as long as the show in on the air, they need to make some good investments with that money for their future or Ben seriously needs to complete some type of education and/or training.

Saw on E News that Anna is pregnant and is SO HAPPY to be pregnant at the same time as Jill.

Also, Jordyn is making comments that Jessa looks pregnant and is giving Jessa a complex about being fat - I don't know any young kids that talk about someone being pregnant!!

Apparently the ONLY thing that matters in this world is having BAAAY-BIES!

I wish the Bates were on TLC because I am tired of the Duggars getting all the attention. I was shocked how different and normal and happy the Bates are in comparison to the Duggars.

Jim Boob is a multi-millionaire and Joshua was well off even before he took the job in DC because of the show. Both Jill & Jessa are pretty well off (for their age & having no jobs) due to being paid for "their shows" & of course all the pics & their book. Their days of buying second hand to save their pennies is long gone. They are no longer who they were before TLC put them on easy street. Can you even imagine how much freebie stuff they are given?

Jim Boob likes the fame, sure BUT he loves the money even more AND wants his "adult kids" to take advantage of it for themselves too.

As to Jessa (or Jill) paying for their own wedding -- I doubt it. I can see Jim Boob capping the dollar amount to keep it the same for Jessa as Jills'. They did go to Paris for their honeymoon & unless the trip was gifted to them they might have wanted to save $ from the wedding to do the trip.

The show is absolutely highly scripted AND they are playing out a storyline to make their episodes. I laughed when Jim Boob stopped what he was saying mid-sentence (as scripted) BEFORE he was actually interrupted by Jill & Derrick coming in the front door to announce their pregnancy to the family. As to her Jill coming to the house the day before to use one of Michelle's pregnancy tests -- give me a break -- ya right!

These Duggar kids just can't pull it off the way their parents, who chose this life, have. I think the show would be so much more interesting if someone, anyone would break the mold, even just a little bit! The show would be much more interesting if some of them would reveal that they are actually choosing their own path. Who can stomach watching the same format 16 more times?

Allison said...

I really hated how Jill played up that she "stole something" the day before... she said last summer her sisters told her to use her mom's pregnancy test, so half of them already knew what was going on. Geez. And do they really think Jill didn't tell her sisters afterward what the result was? They need to own up to what really happened, or at least explain why it didn't happen the way we would all think it would (like asking Jill why she didn't tell her sisters after she took the test). The "big announcement" wasn't even much of a reveal anyway, so why the drama?

Jessa won't be beautiful and interesting to the media forever. You can't make a career out of that. At least one of them needs to have some kind of stable job situation, college educated or not. Otherwise they will be in for a rude awakening when they are up to their eyeballs in kids, dirty diapers, Jessa wont be able to spend hours preening herself, she'll be fat, tired, and preoccupied with running a house, getting food on the table, homeschooling, taking care of sick kids, and all the other things that happen in NORMAL life. One of the many kids may lose her iPhone and then she won't be able to take all those selfies and post them to Facebook. Then she will be just another regular frazzled mother. Doubt People magazine will be interested in her then.

Wampascat said...

I'm not sure where Jim Bob pulled those figures fore the cost of the weddings. The biggist charges would be church rental and gown cost but the gown is probably a freebie. The food comes from Sam's or Costco. The flowers are silk. The clothes are cheap. I can't see them paying a photographer much. Postage for over a thousand invitations would be a pretty penny, but with all the slave labor they have, they get by super cheap on their weddings considering they make out like bandits on the gift end.
As far as the Bates family goes, yes they are a little easier to swallow, but they are cut from the exact same cloth as the Duggars and the only reason their show is different is because they need to portray themselves a little differently than the Duggars and not make the same media flubs in order to stay on the air as long as possible. Other than that, they are exactly alike. They control their children and have babies, babies, babies on the brain.

Anonymous said...

Just a thought on what all of their lives will be like once the show is off the air. I look at the little kids and wonder what their life will be like in 15 years when the cameras have been long gone. I worry about Jessa and Ben. Do either of them have a real job? What will all of their lives be like when the cameras are no longer recording?

Wedding Budget - Jim Bob actually said 10 or 20 grand for a wedding. I assume he meant Jill's. He said he paid for the venue, which was at the church. Our home church charged us nothing so why did J imbob pay for the church that they consider their family church (their wedding, maybe the baby's service)? I'm not sure why that would cost more than a few hundred dollar donation.
Next, weddings ate usually quoted "per guest" the more expensive the more expensive per head. Example $150 per head, $300 per head and this usually excludes children, and includes sit down dinner, a band/dance floor, wedding cake, professional photographer, church ceremony, and venue change to hotel or country club that can accommodate a formal sit down reception etc.

Lets say a wedding planner quotes $250 a head for the above (depending on the ppulance etc). Take $250 times the amount of guests and there is your wedding budget. A large wedding would be 300 guests in normal world so $250 × 300 = $75,000 wedding. Thats a VERY fancy large wedding in my opinion and I'm not including any children in the head count and am including alcohol which is very expensive.

The Duggars wedding is 1300 invited guests and they are giving each guest (children included) cupcakes, root beer, and some other type of snack. How much "per head" do you think that wedding cost? Keep in mind they have teams of volunteers doing all the labor and work. They would have to go to Sam's or Costco for food and utensils. Jill didn't even have rental chairs for people to sit down and eat ice cream Joy was serving the floats like a servant (bless her heart sweating) Jana was Cinderella slaving away on the cheap wardrobe. I am sure they had a Got hard volunteer for the photographer.

WHERE DID J IMBOB COME UP WITH $10,000?

The only thing I can think of is Michelle said something about the plumbing falling apart so certainly he paid to repair that. That is the only big expense I can find.

My final point bare with me please. A Duggar wedding actually MAKES money because the guest probably buy nice gifts (according to registry) while the budget per person is less than $40.

Please help me out if you think you understand my point. Even with 1,000 guest J imbob did NOT spend 20,000. But I bet Jill received a sizable amount in gifts financially.

stephanie said...

Jessa and Ben didn't seem too "over the moon" about their new accommodations. Ben should be happier, its a step up from the warehouse sweatshop but I could read Jessa's mind (rare talent friends) and she was thinking "Jill's dinging room and woodwork, beautiful foyer, two car garage, large kitchen with island. But to the producers she said "I am glad I don't have a big three floor house to keep clean, that's alot of work".
Yeah right Jessa we believe you.

I just saw the big announcement episode with Jill & Derick arriving at the Duggar home to announce their pregnancy. Did anyone else notice that the last person to get up & go to Jill Derick & hug & congratulate them was......you guessed it Michelle! Michelle spent the entire time while everyone was around Jill & Derick with her arms around Josie saying; "Josie, Jill's going to have a baby." But it was a while before Michelle went near Jill & Derick. She was definitely the last one to even go near them.

I noticed that about the sleepover. It's fun to have chocolate fondue but they should have had a real meal first. Actually, cheese fondue with bread and vegetables would have been fun and then the chocolate for dessert. It looked like they didn't have any dinner.

Anonymous said...

I don't see how Jill's wedding could have cost $10,000 dollars, much less $20,000. It just looked so cheap the clothes, no lunch or dinner, just snacks and don't forget the root bear floats. They could afford a much better wedding. My goodness she didn't even wear shoes.

Anonymous said...

1. I think it's gross how Jilly keeps kissing Derickdillard while eating and with a mouth full of half chewed food. YUCK.

2. They put so much emphasis on modesty but they showed little Josie naked from the waist up while hooked up to machines in the hospital. Modesty isn't the only issue with this (it's only the easiest and most concise to focus on), but when going along with their crazy beliefs it stood out. Th adults can't wear skirts above their knees but they will show a naked 5 year old. I'd rather my 16 year old show her knee caps than broadcast my naked little kid.

3. They aren't even married yet and already Benseewald seems over Jessa and all the bs. He doesn't seem as into it all as he once was.

4. Those girls spend so much time on their looks (nothing wrong with that, I also spend time on hair and makeup) and none of them try to update Meechelle's hair? Subtle sabotage?

5. I don't buy that Meechelle doesn't wear makeup. Her skin is way too perfect to be completely makeup free. I don't even mean having an even skin tone, her skin is brightened in al the right places, blushes in all the right places, highlights in the right places. No makeup my bootay.

Anonymous said...

I remember Michelle's birthday when the girls took her to get an outfit and a hair makeover, her friend surprised her and showed up. Michelle was so rude, actually all of them were. She likes looking like an 80'S throwback, all they kept saying was it would grow back.

This may be old news as I haven't read through the 200+ comments on the last thread, but these are Jessa's bridesmaid dresses. Michelle even commented on the $50 price tag (she liked that!) while Jessa was looking at them on her laptop. Wonder if they know they're doing business with teh ebil Mormons!

Did anyone notice how Joy Anna literally threw her bible on the coffee table immediately following the fake pregnancy announcement?

Jim Bob said that the weddings add up quick with the chair rentals and all. What chairs?? The church had pews, and there were no seats at the outdoor reception.

Another thing that had me saying "huh" out loud was when the family gathered in the LR for their Bible reading (or whatever) AND the very first thing Jim Boob said to them was a formal "Thank you all for coming." If this is a routine weekly family session why is he thanking them "for coming" to the LR from their BR's. Makes me wonder if their formal religion practices has kind of gone by the wayside like home schooling. Just weird to me.

I laughed out loud when Jessa fondly remembered Michaels toilet birth while in the bathroom. This family just doesn't get how ridiculous the make themselves look!

Now that I think about it, that family Bible time was during the day. When they've run down their family schedule in the past they've had a family devotional at 10 at night. Why are the Duggars still on TV? They sell announcements to People magazine and then air the same announcements on their show months later. Jill could give birth any day now and they are just showing her telling her family now. They sold the exclusive rights of their wedding photos to People and showed the preparation and wedding on their show months later.
Michelle must be so jealous that her days of getting pregnant and giving birth are over. I am surprised Jessa and Ben haven't announced they are expecting yet. Jessa doesn't seem to be the type to want a bunch of kids. She is just repeating what she has been trained to think all her life when she says she will take as many kids as god will give her and that she wants to adopt. I wonder what would happen if her and Ben were using birth control and Jimboob and Michelle found out.

I'm sure JB and Michele are already aware that Benessa isn't going to follow the quiverful lifestyle fully. Jessa said something in a previous episode about having a baby in a year or toe after they're married. Only one way to avoid that and it isn't praying about it. She pretty pathetically stumbled over her words about why they got the crappy house but seeing that she's planning on making the second bedroom into a guest room says plenty about their family plans. I say good for them. JB and m had four years to get to know one another before having a family. And grow up too, come to think about it. Benessa are not my favorite people but I like their apparent ability to think, even just a little, for themselves.

I may have missed a comment, but am I the only one that was really skeeved out by JimBob's comment about "I guess they figured it out"? There was just something really wrong with some of his comments to Michelle after Jill announced she is pregnant.

I mean it is one thing to tease a family member or make a joke to your spouse in private, but on national tv, it was just really not appropriate to be commenting like that. It seemed 'dirty' with JimBob saying the things he said.

I presume the ones out of the house now..Josh,Jessa and Jill..each get their own checks ,per family, but not per adult.Otherwise they would have no motivation to show up,and it seems Josh has always made an extra effort to show up and be in the show somehow.I suspect they all are paid per appearance. Not on an episode=no check.JMO

He said something like "coming down so quickly". The fake scenes are really bothering me more than ever including this one. We have seen bible time late at night, in the dark, in the boys room, in pajamas for ten years. I blame TLC. Jill saying she's in love (Imbob fake face) even Sister Wives reenacting the divorce announcement in February '15 when Meri filed in July '14. This is TLC's fault

J imbob trying to act is as bad as his Spanish. That stupid fake eyebrow face when he is trying to "act" is always a dead giveaway and he does it all the time now including when Jill said "I stole something". If you don't know the face I am talking about its the same stupid expression when he mugged for the cameras, when working out or eating something "yummy" when he is himself he doesn't make that face.

Josie laying in the hospital looked like the saddest thing I have ever seen besides my own twins in the neonatal unit. Jana once again the mommy, I guess Michelle and J imbob were on another free vacation.

Stephanie said...

Yes you are right. The little kids usually fall asleep because its late at night.

Stephanie said...

I can't believe none of us have mentioned ed this. I bet Derek will get an earful from J imbob about repeating JillyMuffins dirty little secret about not getting enough to eat and grabbing food and hiding away just to eat.

Back before tv when they were living in the poverty level, I wish one of the adult kids would really tell those stories because we all know it had to be rough.

Jill showed a hideous photo of her and the other three girls in those awful, used, too-big dresses and Jill said they used to play dress up. NOPE that was how they dresses. Jill has told her husband a few dirty secrets, i think I like her for that. From now on she will have to tell Derek Not to tell those stories even though J imbob talks smack about his deceased father.

What goes around comes around J imbob and you have 19 times over for the truth to come out.

You know, I always wondered about stories from childhood too. People in the area say they see them out and about, shopping or whatever. Doesn't anyone ever get to have like a conversation with them, where they are talking more real and not all fakey for the cameras? Isn't there some "friend" (violin teacher, construction guy, whatever) that might say something about them? I can't believe all acquaintances are all completely hush-hush.

Anonymous said...

Re: Jill's REAL little secret about having to hide food to eat enough: Well, this certainly tells us just how well Jim Bob was doing before TLC came a callin' doesn't it? He also had a wad of cash to donate to some political campaign around that time, didn't he and he let his kids go hungry and in such a dump of a small house? Shame on him, as I wonder how people could possibly look up to a guy like that?

Carol said...

According to election filings Jim Bob spent $100000 of his own money for his senate campaign way back when they only about 12 kids. Seriously warped priorities there. If u want to know where I found that info it was on Wikipedia years ago but they had it removed. I don't remember the exact year but they were still living in the hovel.

We know that the Duggars have Bible time before bed…at around 9 pm. When Jill came to "surprise" them with the news it looked as though it was the middle of the day. Definitely all staged. Disappointing. I thought in general this episode was disappointing. I'm so over Jill and Derick and I was hoping to see something more interesting in regards to Jessa and Ben's wedding planning…..

Anonymous said...

I heard that for all the "wonderful dear friends" the Duggars say they have, they actually keep to themselves and don't social or interact with anyone in town as no one is as holy as they are...all heathens if their belief system differs. All these "dear friends" that they have are from all over the country and they meet them at those Gothard/ATI meetings in Big Sandy. They don't have any real local friends at all.

Anonymous said...

That would be hilarious...and none of Jim Bob's or Michelle's business! Old boob would cut them off so fast... I'm sure when the younger siblings visit they nose through everything!

Allison said...

Okay, I have more proof (I guess) that Jill's announcement was staged beyond just the bad acting:

Michelle, Jessa and Jinger are wearing the exact same clothes they were wearing when they were discussing Jessa's bridesmaids dresses as when Jill and Derick came over to announce the pregnancy. This obviously could not have happened at the same time, because she was one month into the pregnancy in July, and Ben and Jessa didn't get engaged until the end of August. Unless, of course, Jessa and Ben got engaged earlier, which many of us have suspected....

Honestly, TLC, if you're going to hodgepodge the timeline together, at least do a wardrobe change...

Dar said...

It is a sad commentary with Jill telling Derek "secrets" regarding their childhood. Hiding to keep her food. That is something I don't think Jim Bob would want to promulgated to the masses. One wonders how many young children of families with parents of the same ilk might be hungry today. For me, that is the shame of Michelle and JimBob's preaching about having all the blessings the lord sends. There are young people who look up to them just because they are on TV. Unfortunately, TLC money is not available to everyone. I am sure there are a lot of families in big trouble financially. The Duggars would never take any responsibility for misrepresenting that life. As difficult as it was twenty years ago, it must be horrific now.

Anonymous said...

Because the children are not her responsibility. Never have been.

Anonymous said...

They are very standoffish. Distrustful. Seem afraid of everybody as do the kids. They are also very arrogant especially the boys, even at a young age. For some reason they seem to think they are better thdn everyone else because they are different. They have "higher standards" you understand.

That is not a ministry and that in no way "encourages" me!

Jessa was critical of Jills wedding.... If I were Jill I would be hurt about comments from my own sister:
- how Jills bridesmaid dresses needed to be completely remade (and really that was a waste of Jana's time but was done to give TLC a storyline)
- wedding cake is not necessary (hey its a tradition)
- Jessa looking online for her dress and in a local store (not going the way to DC for a freebie but again another storyline)

Wampascat said...

Am I recalling correctly, but in the way back Duggar specials didn't Michelle say that folks would leave charitable donations on their doorstep? I'm not sure if that fell into their buy used and save the difference philosophy or if they relied on said charity to survive. Then, we find out Jim Bob had enough disposable income to throw in $100,000 of his own money to run for Senate and his kids still had to squirrel away food to feel secure. There is something very wrong here, way beyond the silly rules we've poke fun at over the years.

Anonymous said...

Between the non-wardrobe changes and the timeline here, it looks like TLC filmed the whole season over a few days. Badly done as this TV program is just that...no ministry at all; that's a front for being able to justify collecting a pay check. Jim Bob needs to come clean and explain just exactly how each of his family members are paid for their appearances and work on this show..specifically. If it's a ministry, as they say, ministries usually open up their books if they have nothing to hide, don't they?

He wanted to help Gil Bates out a bit and told him what a deal he got finishing his house if they filmed it; and he passed on the "in" with Gil. Gil's house was falling apart and was quite a shack, like Chez Duggar's rental house. Gil jumped on the bandwagon too.

This family gave the appearance that they were in dire straights, and they were...as Jim Bob was socking away the money and didn't give his family access to it for things like food and real clothing. It will be interesting to see how many turned up. Jill's wedding was a novelty so I think a lot of gothardites showed up. Twice in one year would probably be a bit much esp in late fall. I knew a pastors daughter who sent out 600 invites and 400 showed up. They were blown away that so many came. She was the first. The others weddings were much "smaller".

Every one keeps saying Jim bob paid 100,000..... I read today it was 250.000 for a failed run for the senate. Google it. They were in debt up the wazoo and went to a conference on how to get out of debt. He apparently did well in real estate and good deals... That's what they are selling us now

I feel sorry for the younger girls

Just like all internet stories, the amount Jim Bob spent on the campaign keeps growing. In a couple of years it will be up to half a million. :)

In referencing the amount of money that Jim Bob has contributed in others' campaigns, these figures, I believe, are on two separate occasions, many years apart from one another...so, he does have "money to burn" for those things, but not for bedrooms for his age appropriate children, college for them, and better, healthier food.

I really could never understand the Duggars habit of going to bed late & sleeping late in the morning. As a mom with small children you would think that Michelle would be exhausted at the end of the day & want to get the kids into bed early in order to relax for the evening. I know for the past at least ten years the older girls have been in charge of the little ones so that's no great concern to the parents. Also they say they don't watch TV at night or any other time, we never see books or newspapers lying around to be read & I thought "Bible Time ," only lasted about an hour so. We have hear the middle boys say they have a "midnight snack." Who let's their kids stay up so late that they require a midnight snack? What do they do until 2 or 3 am? On second thought don't answer that.

There are bookshelves with books in the girls' dorm.

But with no internet, no magazines, no late night HBO.... what could they be doing? :)

Re: the kids having a midnight snack....

One thing I cannot stand is for someone to be hungry. My heart goes out to someone who had to take food into the bathroom to be able to eat. I am thankful they now have enough to eat so the kids can have a snack at midnight if they are hungry.

I wrote about the kids staying up so late & the boys saying they have a midnight snack. They also said they eat 7 or 8 meals a day. I too feel badly for children who are hungry but I still don't understand why very young boys are up so late that they require a midnight snack. I believe the answer is that nobody is watching over those children.

I think Jim Bob and Michelle turn in early and the blessings eat candy and whoop it up and swing from the rafters until the wee hours. Then, they just fall over and sleep wherever they land, dirty feet and all.

Re: JillyBean taking food into bathroom. Maybe she was sneaking extra food, trying to get MORE than her fair share, not because she was hungry. It would be in keeping with her tattletale behavior. Sneaking extra food is not uncommon in large families, even my brothers and sisters and I all did some of that as kids and there were only six of us. Not always a hunger issue but rather one upping in a sibling rivalry kind of way.

Anonymous mentioned the lack of "age appropriate" bedrooms.....I think having the girls all in one room and the boys in another is so that they can watchdog each other as chaparones while they are in their beds so they remain pure there too and not in a moment of weakness give into their curiosity and hormones and explore their bodies....just my opinion

Re: the comment about the dormitories being "watchful of their behavior" in their own beds, etc. is exactly right! Yes, that's why they don't separate the daughters and sons by age, etc..so they can NEVER be alone. How can someone live with absolutely NO privacy? Awful.

I think it's interesting when they say "I married my best friend". Do they know what that even means?? A best friend is first and foremost a confidant. How can you confide in someone when you have as many as eighteen other people listening to your conversation? How do they get to know the "secret person of the heart" ( that's a Biblical term, maybe they should look outside the scriptures they bend to suit themselves and actually read the book!)

They are aqauintances at best, having never had any real, meaningful conversation. Honestly, the guy from Cast Away had a more convincing relationship with his volley ball than these couples do with each other.

No internet, no magazines, no late night HBO...what could they be doing? My comment was supposed to be sarcastic as we know what Jim Bob & Michelle are doing! The poor kids are having midnight snacks, & sleeping on the floor or even the stairs (we've seen that)then they are exhausted the next day. No wonder they can't concentrate on their studies.

Good point No Longer Anonymous. There could have been enough food and Jill was trying to sneak more than her share. I can "totally" see her doing that.

I THINK they edited the food in yhe bathroom comment out of the rerun today. If it was when they did the kiss count and Derick was saying how Jill talked loudly they did not mention the hiding and eating.
