Um, anyone else concerned that the animals seems to be getting fed bread? (a truck of breads???) I hope that's not what consists the major portion of their diet.

I realize that I am being redundant, but why, oh why, do we have put up with Amy Duggar acting so immature episode after episode? Her attention-seeking behavior so annoying.

I was shocked to see the animals being fed bread. I don't imagine camels and bears having stale bagels in their natural diet.

I am tired of Amy as well. She is a sweet and pretty girl, but enough of her "crazy" antics. I realize that I don't know the little boys at all and would much rather the show focus on them.

I don't know how to describe how I felt about this episode, since I basically mostly liked seeing the wedding take place (except for the chauvinism involved in the whole yucky ceremony itself).

There is something just awkward about these kids talking on camera...especially the younger blonde boy who thinks he is very smart but just can't find the right words. They seem rather uneducated to me. I'm not being snobbish but I don't really think this is much different from another big family we rag on, except for the religion factor. It's obviously their "message" whereas with the other show it's largely left out.

I just was bored. This show is not going to be setting the world on fire anytime soon, I don't think.

The issues of children being exploited are basically the same to me, if they are indeed working and not having any laws protecting them. I worry about the girls and young women in this family more than anything else. I worry about the control the parents seem to have.

Cousin Amy is obviously going to be a big part of the show and I suspect this is supposed to keep it edgy enough to watch, but it's just not cutting it to me.

I don't mind somebody being religious, and I'm not going to criticize anybody's POV when it comes to God. But I think this show will more than likely really annoy some people.

Here's what I don't understand. They have 18 kids and they have to import one (Amy) for entertainment value to jazz up the show? I'd rather see more of their kids. If I'm watching the show, I'm being exposed to what they expose to the world. Are their lives so boring they have to bring a wacky cousin who is obnoxious?

Ugh, I agree about Amy. Why does she need to come help feed the animals? Why did she need to be at the park too? I just rolled my eyes when I saw her AGAIN. You know she is going to be a camera hog and do something stupid to steal the show. She seems like a bad influence. Why do the Duggars even want her around their kids?

Cousin Amy needs to GO! It is painful and annoying to see her week after week acting like a middle-schooler and being stupid for the camera.

I thought the kids were disrespectful and disobedient at the safari when the rules clearly said not to chase the animals, etc. Seemed to me that they weren't much help (except John David) and it was staged to show that they don't sit at home all day working as Mama and Daddy's free maid/housekeeping service. Hubby wanted to know how much TLC paid the safari to allow them to come and run roughshod over it. I would imagine the stale bagels and bread are just treats because I do remember JD pouring a bag of food into a feeding trough.

I agree with jonandkatewho? about the kids speaking on camera. The little blond son reminded me of Josh spouting the "party line" and trying to convince us that he is highly intelligent. I guess they need to train someone to replace Josh as the kids' spokesman. The kids seem to parrot their father's pompous and meaningless commentary and I grind my teeth when I have to listen to them.

Did anyone notice at the end that JimBob had his arm around Jinger(?) in a creepy sort of way?

Cee said...

I call the blonde one (he is Josiah) Smugger Jr. b/c I heard another blog calling Josh Smugger Dugger. Why is he the only kid they ever seem to interview? That "safari" was pretty ghetto. Seeing those animals in those rusty cages made me sad and I am sure a repectable zoo would not be feeding all of their animals stale bagels...the diets of all of the animals shouldn't be the same.

Amy is so weird...why is she always there? Was this a weekday? Does she have a job or is she in school or anything? I was hoping that rhino she put the bagels on would charge. haha

Got to have Amy, those Duggar robots don't talk.

I totally agree about Amy, I was thinking the same thing!! She is totally out of line...and a bad influence, especially in the wedding one she kept saying well Jim Bob and Michelle kissed before..etc. She is annoying to say the least. Please stop filming her!!! I have to admit I like the Duggar Family.

About cousin Amy....

I don't think that Amy is deliberately trying to be an attention hog. Unlike her 18 cousins, she is an only child, so she probably is used to the attention. And she was not raised as strict as them, and I think she is trying to show them that quoting Bible passages is not the only way to have fun. Yes she gets annoying at times, but I think it's really only because of her effort in showing her cousins that there's more to life than chores.
We all know that Jinger is going to be the one who rebels, and, if anything, Amy's going to be the one who helps Jinger break free.

Check it out! Here is the website for the safari, http://www.wildwildernessdrivethroughsafari.com/, and they have a couple of pictures of the Duggars' visit on the Home page. It also mentions that some of their animals were used in the Duggars' CHRISTMAS FLOAT in the Christmas parade in December and this episode will air this Tuesday, Feb. 3rd. One of the pictures shows Jim Bob as a wise man. Hope we don't see Michelle astride a donkey portraying a pregnant Mary! The man is a genius at marketing his family!!

I was absolutely disgusted by the condition of that zoo. Why on earth were the animals all fed bread?? I could not believe this.

I think Cousin Amy is likeable, and I think it's good that those children are exposed to someone other than other homeschooled families in the quiverfull movement! I remember in one of the episodes Amy's mother thanked JB and Michelle for "all they've done for Amy." I think they're just trying to help her out by giving her sibling-like figures since she doesn't have any of her own. And it helps their kids, too, because it exposes them to a type of person they might not otherwise interact with.

That being said, though... http://amyjordyn.com/
Amy is an aspiring country artist and I have to wonder if she's just coming onto the show for exposure to further her career? I don't seem to remember her from any of the documentaries and now she's around ALL the time...

Mommy in PA said...

I don't think Amy is on the show to promote her music career. Her music career hasn't even been mentioned, and they credit her on the show as Amy Duggar, not as Amy Jordyn.
Probably the reason we didn't see her on the earlier specials was that she was a teenager at the time (and probably in school unlike her homeschooled cousins), and they were trying to focus more on the core family of Duggars not any relatives that visit.

Skeptical said...

True she doesn't go by her real name on the show, and she doesn't mention that she's a singer, but if you go to her website it says multipule times that she is "featured as Amy Duggar" on her aunt and uncle's show.

Maria said...

Whether you like Amy or not, I just want to say that she acts VERY immature. I'm surprised they let her around their children, because she seems to be a bad influence to me.

Wendy Bird said...

Amy is an opportunist. Plain and simple. Do you really think that she would have gone to the safari to "give back" if it hadn't been being filmed for television?

As I mentioned in another post, she is making fun of the people giving her the opportunity to be on television. She is promoting herself, which I guess would be fine, if she didn't act so childish and annoying so that the camera people will film her.

That wedding cake incident said it all for me. This was supposed to be a very special moment for Josh and Anna, and they didn't want cake to be smashed in their faces. They made this very clear. What a brat. I hope that if she ever gets married, Josh and Anna get back at her. She deserves it.

I was really appalled when I saw the truck load of bread being fed to the animals. We raise animals on a farm and good nutrition is just as important to animals as to people. The white bread and bagels aren't good for people and they don't have ANY nutritional content for animals. The zoo probably gets it for free but it's a good way to have nutritionally deficient animals. With such an investment in the exotic animals, I would think they would be more careful.

Of course, considering that commercial cattle and chickens get raised on feed containing everything from newsprint to ground bone, it's amazing what you can get away with.

mamawama said...

I think the Duggar kids would've been better behaved if Amy wasn't there egging on the bad behavior. She started the food fight, and that poor rhino, that was just not nice. I was also hoping he would charge!

There were also several scenes of Amy chasing after the animals. She is grown! She needs to act like it! She was worse than the 9 yo!

Cee said...

Jim Bob was right in the middle of that bread fight Amy started too...just thought I would point that out.

mamawama said...

Even if Jim Bob was right there, how much do you want to discipline your grown neice? And on TV? I'm going to have to go back and watch it again.

Cee said...

Oh I completly agree with that..I think Amy is out of control. But Jim Bob has some problems himself

Old North State said...

I know they kept talking about "volunteering" but I didn't see much help from the Duggars. Seems like there would have been stalls that needed cleaing out. However.......the free publicity for the safari?.....priceless!

Amy is a part of their family and always has been. Her and the family both say that she has been around alot. She is credited as Amy Duggar because it's easier... people can search for her online or mention her without having to think of what her last name is. Whoever said she is on there to promote her career, think again. I can only think of one time someone mentioned her music on the show and it was one of the younger boys. The Duggars don't think of her as a bad influence, and they shouldn't. They see her as a part of their family that isn't quite as conservative as they are. If you haven't noticed, the Duggars don't judge people. I have spoken with Michelle through Email a few times and she is nothing but wonderful to me even though I don't follow the same lifestyle. I could never see them not letting someone around because they are "different" from them. They did a good job of raising those kids and unlike most kids, they don't seem as impressionable. They are set in their ways with outstanding morals and sense of self...just because cousin Amy has kissed boys doesn't mean they will jump on the first one they all see.

Emma said...

Oh and I'm pretty sure they feed the animals much more than bread. lol Anyone with a 6th grade education knows that all of those animals would more than likely be dead if not extremely malnourished on a diet of bread and bagels. That may have been grazing food, kind of like a snack, aside from their actual food supply. They do that at the zoo here...spread seeds around for the birds, bread for grazing animals, etc. But then of course give them actual meals of fruits, meat, vegies, etc.

As a studying vet student, I am shocked that these animals were even fed bread. The medical ramifications of this lazy feeding practices leads to decreased immunity, diabetes and heart and kidney failure. Animals, especially wild animals lack the capabilities to process refined starches and sugars, it should not be part of their diet, period. It just goes to show the viewer that this horrendous facility lacks the necessary resources to properly care for these animals. In brief, they should not be in possessions of these creatures if they can not care for them. Shame on them and shame on the Duggars for supporting an inhumane facility that is too cheap to afford proper nutrition for the animals under their care!

Brandy said...

The people who drive through the park also feed the animals. Crackers and bread are the most common. They do spread corn out around the road area of the drive through in the mornings to get the animals interested in coming out to interact with people. They have learned that those cars mean 'treats'. Some bring fruit and veggies but mostly it's crackers. I've no idea what they do to supplement those diets after closing hours, just speaking from the actual drive experience. Been there a time or two.

If you think that they're getting zoo quality care, it's highly doubtful!

Google "Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari - Gentry, Arkansas" and add the word "violations" to the search and check out all the dirt that pops up! All that glitters is not gold!

I'm not sure about Amy's name. Another poster said that she had a music website calling herself Amy Jordyn. I searched "Amy Duggar" on facebook, and found her: Amy Rachelle Duggar. I'm confused...

Anonymous said...

Just to note, I'm friends with Amy Duggar on facebook and her full name is Amy Rachelle Duggar, not sure where this Jordyn name came from but I believe it is her mothers maiden name. Just some speculation...

Cee said...

Amy is from Jim Bob's side of the family...her mom is his sister. She mentioned that one of the first times she was on the show...which makes me think that she uses the last name Duggar. Or maybe her mother never married and gave her child her maiden name?

I googled the zoo with violations and found this article

http://animalhusbandry.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_horrors_of_roadside_zoos

It is sad that the Duggars would choose to support this place on several occasions...they should do there homework as should TLC!

Carolyn said...

I too would hope the Duggars would be more selective in what they agree to do for the show. TLC can be down-right sleazy and disgusting. The zoo bit was just not right. The bread being fed was disgusting. The Duggar kids would not have behaved that way on their own. It is simply out of their character to chase animals and behave that way. Amy can be a brat and an instigator!

mamawama said...

I totally agree Carolyn. I wonder if the Duggars have the time to research every place TLC selects for them? Maybe the Duggars thought that if they gave the zoo some publicity, the zoo would get more traffic and therefore make more money to feed the animals better?

Oh and about that Amy. You are so right BRAT!!!

RegardingAmy said...

I think TLC and the Duggars want to continue to showcase Amy in a negative light. She's serving her own purpose of promoting her music career by drawing attention to herself. Meanwhile, the Duggars are serving their own dual purpose of:
1) Showing the contrast between Amy's obnoxious behavior and how well behaved the Duggar children are, and
2) Showing the world that the Duggars are tolerant of others regardless of what other people believe or how those other people act.
