Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 9:00 PM, Michelle's Birthday Makeover

(Titan TV) As Michelle's birthday approaches, the older girls plan for her to receive a makeover, but Jim Bob also plans for something unexpected; despite it being her own birthday, Michelle plans a surprise for the rest of the family.

I checked TLC's Duggar upcoming episodes and this one is no longer showing.

Wow! The producers do read this. How many oeople have posted Michelle needs a makeover. Lol

This ought to be good. I actually think Michelle is a pretty woman...doesn't look her age in her face. Her body of course is ravaged by so many pregnancies. I can't even imagine what she would look like with updated hair and wardrobe.

The makeover is great and all.. but haven't we seen her in photos since her last birthday where her hair looks the same as it did last year??

Or is this supposed to be her birthday this year since the Asia trip was a month or so ago?

This schedule is confusing.

tulip said...

Too bad that whatever the makeover was, it didn't last. Michelle's Bday was actually a little over a month ago, and we just saw some pics of her when she was speaking for Akin...She looks same as ever.

Hope she gets a good hair trim.jmo.

It's high time Michelle had a makeover. I hope at least SOME of their tips and tricks stick with her.

Cadence said...

Don't count on such a big makeover. Her hair will still(forever) be long, and she'll still be wearing skirts, polos. Maybe she'll put on some lipgloss?

Much less of a Fan said...

This is not a makeover in the "What Not To Wear" meaning of make over. This is a much needed hair cut and maybe a new long skirt and shirt with a little more flare than her standard single colored collared button up blouse.

I vote for no more crunchy hair. For her age Michelle looks good. Her body though must be ravaged from constant pregnancy

Wasn't there a photo on instagram or the blog or somewhere a few months ago where Michelle was dressed in bright colours? I can't remember where I saw it or exactly what she wore but I remember everyone commenting on how much better she looked. Perhaps that was the "makeover" - buying a new outfit?

I really hope this Asia trip is Epic! They will try to fake it til they make it. Someone has said that the Ireland trip last year was TLC saying goodbye, then Pregnancy & Jubilee happened that kept the show going. So Round 2, let's send them to Asia. If I was Michelle I would have asked for Australia. TLC loves putting Jimbob in extremely foreign settings.

I was reading the Keller brother in law thread from Josh's wedding, and he really made it sound like JimBob is at TLC's mercy. The only time TLC really showed Kate Gosselins nastiness was when the show was ending. The camping trip and her fighting with her friends. Didn't Kate fill up the RV with a bunch of food and then a TLC employee actually drove the RV while she flew? TLc needs to decide what kind of program they are producing

What is Michelle's surprise of her own? Could she be pregnant again?

1.Mack having a balloon on her month. Gosh!!
2.How is smelling Josie to see she is dirty modest?
3.A kid walking down the stairs in PJ`s holding on to a blanket.
4.The kids can copy and write.
Josie on the table and then it looked like she fell.
5. Did they write that poem?

I am halfway through the show and this was VERY nice and I have enjoyed.

The bubble said Jimbob & Michelle spend 5 nights a year alone. That awesome, I haven't had 5 nights alone with my husband since we started our family 17 years ago.

Joy having to the shopping. She didn`t get to go to what she really wanted.

Josh didn`t help till the end.

Josie being flimmed when being so upset. How mean to her.

The hair cut kinda looks like a wig.It was also looks like grandma.

She was quizzed. I wanted to hear her get more questions.

A nice episode. Fun things to celebrate M's birthday. Loved her straight hair. Wish she would've kept it.

I really liked this episode thought it was sweet. I liked Michelle's hair wish she kept it straight. I liked that she got to spend time with different smaller groups of her family.

The Duggars is not a show that I would like my children to watch anymore. Too many episodes involving guns. There was no need for Michelle to have to burst those balloons with a gun. What about using a dart? The expression on the girls faces concerning the gun leads me to believe that they use guns much more than portrayed on the show. What family goes through all that trouble for a birthday. Do they really love and idolize Michelle that much? I don't get it. The whole show seemed so fake.

MayDay said...

I felt sad for Joy. It was evident that she wanted to go for ice cream but was scripted to go shopping. When she was in the store and said shopping wasn't her thing I really thought that no one takes her feelings into consideration. :(

I am TOTALLY grossed out by JimBob and Michelle in that hotel room!!! A display like that from anyone else im fine with but that seems downright awkward. And why in HolyMoses is Michelle wearing sling-back crocs?????? That boggles my mind. I also find it unusual for these girls who are so modest to be ''familiar'' with decorating a hotel room to be romantic odd. Arent they sheltered from that??? And we can do without JimBob alluding to their nights sexual activity!!!! But.........it was super cute with the clues for the surprises. Mmmmm-kay, the clothing store????? Oh the Duggars!!!!

Miggy said...

The green/blue/pink button ups are all bought new from an internet site. (The link was posted either here or on another Duggar site.) I don't begrudge her new clothes but I find it funny that they still push the buy-used line while wearing clothes obviously bought new. I seem to remember these "new" clothes being red/floral, so quite different from her traditional look.

Michelle in a new outfit and I think her hair looks different too. It is an anniversary photo rather than birthday but we know how TLC love to mix up timelines.

Cadence said...

Wow! Michelle's new hair looked absolutely amazing on her! It made her look like she was not a day over 35. I can't believe she went back to that curly, puffy monstrosity!

I was just thoroughly disgusted with Michelle regarding her attitude about her makeup/hair cut. Ditto for Jim Bob. Her friend Cindy has the patience of Job. Just wow. Jim Bob wants it long and curly and that is that. What can you say?

This trip to China could actually be very interesting. I would love to hear the Duggars try to deny that over population exists when confronted with the nation's one child policy which was created to try to curb the country's exponential population growth.

But I probably shouldn't get my hopes up. In all likelihood this will be nothing more than an hour long special featuring the Duggars lined up on the Great Wall and Jim Bob bumbling around China proving his level of cultural illiteracy.

pumpkin said...

My quick thoughts:

1. Loved Michelle's hair when it was straight.
2. The vomiting children was disgusting.
3. The girls decorating their parents' hotel room to be sexy was kind of creepy.
4. The clues and poems were adorable. What a great idea for a fun birthday and a good way to involve all the kids. Granted, Joy didn't get to do what she wanted, but it wasn't a day about her.

Now, about the Asia trip - I lived in China for a year teaching English and I can't imagine the Duggars bumbling around. How embarrassing! They'd better realize that they could get in trouble if they try to pass out Bibles or evangelize the locals. I hope they discuss with the kids that most public toilets are just a hole in the ground and you certainly can't drink the water.

Also, in China, it is sooo culturally different to Arkansas that it will be as if the Duggars landed on another planet. Their European vacation last summer will seem like a trip to the corner store in comparison.

Jac&Jil said...

The whole episode was kind of silly, with Jim Bob acting like a real horn dog when he was alone with Michelle in the hotel room. Michelle looked beautiful after her makeover and at least 15 years younger, but Jim Bob said he liked her hair long (even though it's still long). He couldn't even pay her a compliment. Even her daughters said they like her hair better longer! What a downer for Michelle, and she was back to her scrunched up, hillbilly hair at the end. Poor Jana looks worn and older than her 22 years. There is absolutely no sparkle left in her. And please spare us from watching 5 of your children vomitting into styrofoam cups.

tulip said...

I was confused about the Bday look too, since they had showed that as an anniversary pic. And, wondered why in the world they were celebrating a birthday as a honeymoon, with the hotel and love notes, etc.?...guess the whole occasion was serving double duty. What's with all the guns, hunting, fencing, etc. in this season?-Michelle shooting that gun was just strange, even if it was for "fun."

Why did we have to see Josie struggling & crying at the dentist, again? The dentist seems really kind, and good at what he does-TLC probably talked him into letting them show that scene. And all the kids shown vomiting, again, and into styrofoam cups-too much, poor kids having to be filmed this way & millions watching.

I did think the clues and everything was very creative, and it was fun watching it...so different than all the episodes they've had lately. I liked the outfits Michelle was trying on, and was disappointed (though not surprised) she went with the same old look-guess that's why Anna had to comment how Michelle just knows what she likes and what works for her (after 19 kids)...or IMO, an excuse to avoid change. Same with the hair-I could tell right away when she saw it, it was not a reaction of shock, but rather a just plain 'oh, I don't like this." Even when she got out of the car to go into the house, you could tell they ended up curling the ends. Not surprised by Jim Bob's response...reminded me when they were shopping for Michelle's wedding dress, and Jim Bob wanted her to have something with puffy sleeves. The kids looked genuinely shocked to see Michelle's hair, and the looks on their faces said it all-seems like they definitely didn't like it, and were careful not to say much, except Jessa said she wouldn't worry, since it will eventually grow back.

Japan & China..."a trip of a lifetime", traveling around the world "with the whole family"? Why was Michelle talking about it like it was something new & unprecedented?...they just did this-Israel-a year ago. Not to mention, what's the significance of a trip to Asia anyway?

tulip said...

"Josh didn't help till the end.",

"The hair cut kinda looks like a wig.It was also looks like grandma."

I saw Josh at the end too, but only in the background-walking around eating cake.

That's actually the first thing I thought too, lol-Michelle's new hair looked like Grandma's! (I like Grandma-more with it than Michelle, so again, doesn't surprise me Michelle went back to the same old thing.)

...why do all the Duggar kids walk on dining room tables (Josie), and countertops in their bare feet like it's a normal thing to do?-yuck.

JenTru said...

I didn't watch the show but saw the before an after shots in a video. I think her hair looked much better straight but in this case I have to side with Michelle (there's a first time for everything!) I have similar curly hair and while I love the wqy it looks straight I don't have an hour to blow/flatiron straight every morning, so most of the time I am curly. I only have one kid, plus 5 daycare kids but still...maybe it is a time issue. Or maybe JimBoob just likes it the old way.

Leah said...

Anna is so strange. Why was she the ring leader of the Michelle surprise fiasco? And why was she calling Jim Bob "pops"? I personally hate it when people call their in-laws mom and dad, but I know that's normal to some people. And she certainly is not cut out for tons of kids, she nearly lost her cool over a silly birthday surprise.

I think Michelle was just not sure how to react because the whole thing was awkward and forced. I bet she would have just enjoyed a simple birthday dinner and dessert. But then that wouldn't have made an entire episode.

Scientists should do a social experiment with these kids, being raised in such bizzare circumstances. There's no WAY they will all turn out ok. There's some serious neglect going on. And I feel like part of Josh's weight problem has to do with having to share food with 20 people. Food insecurity really, really messes with some people's psychological health.

Looks like I'm the only one who was creeped out by how much that hairstyle made Michelle look like a younger version of her mother-in-law.

With all honesty, I'm disgusted that TLC would even encourage them to visit a foreign country again after the Israel trip! Their embarrassing behavior, cultural illiteracy, and religious superiority complex make Americans look backwards to the rest of the civilized world!! Just, just stay in Arkansas!!

I wasn't crazy about the hard bangs on Michelle. Do they think Cindys hairs looks bad? Its not overly long or scruncy. I don't know the time period but from the make over to the kids vomiting Michelles hair was long again.

amymattz1 said...

I only watched parts of the show. I was floored that they were letting all the kids pick out fireworks. I could not imagine letting my 7 yr old grandson even touch any type of firework. And poor Michelle seemed more scared than grateful of her makeover. It should have been fun for her. Change can be good for you but apparently not if your husband doesn't like it. Did he say one nice thing about her makeover? And to have shooting practice as a party activity? There were too many people and too much chaos for that to have been done safely. Lastly, Jim Bob doesn't seem the least bit romantic. He is posessive, predatory and a wee bit lecherous.

Is it only me that felt that Jill wanted to also cut off some of her hair ,when she put her hand on her hair and made it into a scissors to me it looked like she wanted to cut at least half of it off, also Michelle looked amazing!! with her make over at least half her age !

"Looks like I'm the only one who was creeped out by how much that hairstyle made Michelle look like a younger version of her mother-in-law."

No, Alberta Rose, you were not! I wasn't exactly creeped out, as much as astonished to see them looking so much alike, especially since Michelle wears old lady clothes as well. Although I have to say, it was still a waaaaay better hair style than her current monstrosity.

tulip said...

Yes, Anna orchestrating with Jana & the other girls was strange (camera time?, =$ for Josh & Anna?), and calling Jim Bob "Pops"?-what in the world was that? I've only known one "Pops", and he was a cousin to one of my friends, a big burly guy who worked in a casino. And then calling Michelle "Mom"-she's only ever referred to them as Jim Bob & Michelle.

I myself almost vomited when they were in the hotel room, and Jim Bob said it was time for some love...Eww! They said they had bags packed for them, but the next morning Jim Bob looked the exact same, like he slept in his clothes.

Wampascat said...

Why did I watch? It always makes me mad! Really a bunch of staged, fake nonsense. Can't stand Anna or Jessa. Felt sorry for Joy Anna. Jessa probably told her she didn't need to be eating ice cream. Too cheap to pay or room service, eh Jim Bob? Why do anything yourself when you have a bunch of kids to order around. I mean, they're not doing anything productive right now, anyhow, right? They aren't in school or working at normal jobs. I thought Michelle's hair looked tons better and much healthier, but Jim Boob and Jessa put a stop to that. Found it amusing that Michelle made it a point to hug her kids and pretend she was going to change a diaper. Someone is reading this blog. Lol Really didn't need to see the kids vomit over and over or hear Jim Bob's vomit drinking story. That's entertainment? Encouragement? Drama?I cringe to think what faux pas will be committed by these rubes on their overseas trip. I sincerely hope this is the last season we'll have to watch this train wreck of a family. Honestly, Honey Boo Boo is looking better and better.

Mrs. Barker said...

This episode was painful to watch. Anna doesn't need a lot of kids. She was about to lose her cool when all those kids were running about. Also, Michelle looked good after her makeover. But, Jessa's comments, Jim Bob, etc... really must have been a buzzkill for the much needed overhaul. I am college educated with an advanced degree. My dream in life is to travel the world. It pisses me off to see such closed minded people enjoying world travel. Especially when they can't accept other lifestyles and cultures. We saw how idiotic they looked on their European vacation and to Israel. Not fair, and yes I am hating!

As grossed out as I was over the vomiting, at least I can say I was impressed that Michelle and Jim Bob were taking care of their own children, rather than letting their older daughters do it.

glo said...

I think the hairstyle was too drastic. It seems they could have given Michelle a more trendy style and still left it curly. I know lots of women who have nice looking curly hairstyles that don't look like hillbillies! She is really a lovely woman. I hope maybe in the future she would consider another makeover, one that she is in control of.

hello said...

It's a shame that Michelle felt that she had to have Jim Bob's approval for her new hairdo. I think he is very insecure and controlling, and if his wife gets an updated look, she might feel better about herself. He is the same way with his daughters. In a previous episode, the girls were asked why they all had long hair. They replied that it was because their father liked it that way. It's a shame the girls are being "trained" to believe that they are the weaker sex and need a man to guide them and to get approval for anything they want to do.
I wonder if they watch TV more often than they want the public to believe. When Michelle was answering questions and picking letters for the kids to turn around, she said-can I buy a vowel?(reference to Wheel of Fortune). If they watch that as a family, it would be a NIKE filled night every time they showed Vanna White. They wouldn't want their sons to get a glimpse of Vanna's cleavage or legs.

I totally agreed with you but actually believe it was entirely constructed for the cameras. How long has the show been on the air? This is actually the first time we've seen Jim Bob and Michelle actually alone and actually taking care of their children. I promise you once the cameras left for the night Jana, Jill and Co were handed the children again so Jim Bob and Michelle could get some alone time in their bedroom to work on continuing to populate the planet!

Marites H. said...

Anna must be on some sort of "happy pill" for postpartum depression. When she talked, she talked quickly like she was out of breath and her eyes went a bit wide and wild. She is definitely not cut out for a full house of 19 kids like her sisters-in-law deal with on a daily basis. It seemed like she was a bit overwhelmed and "out of it" going through the motions of party-planning with Jana coaxing her along. Looks like Jana did most of the work.

Andrea said...

Oh, one more thing ... Guns are bad. They kill people and animals. Michelle shooting at the balloons was in my mind really disturbing. I've never seen or handled a gun and I would never want to or expose my children to guns either. The show is definitely not family friendly viewing.

imaamy said...

So the older girls looking disappointed when she walked in and whispering to each other...that is so high school. Wonder where they got that kind of behavior? Not very nice IMO.

summer11 said...

The gun displays multiple times this season, in my opinion, is a way for them to show their political agenda. Back when they were supporting Santorum, one of their 19 "reasons" to vote for him was that he would protect gun laws. So I think they're just putting it out there that they use guns and want to continue to do so.

Hilarious about JimBob wearing the same thing the day after staying at the hotel. Take a shower?

I agree that Anna may not be cut out for having a boat load of kids, but I have to give her some credit. I can only imagine how it really is trying to control those children. Some of the younger ones, especially Jackson, seem to be very hyper and very energetic. I actually thought she handled herself well in that she didn't get angry and took a step back to calm herself.

As far as encouragement goes, I think the Duggar parents including Josh and Anna do a great job of not getting angry with their children and yelling at them or saying hurtful things to them. I want to be like that with my children when I have them.

Kelly V said...

As ridiculous and staged as much of this show is, I have to agree with summer11's post on how the Duggars control their tempers. I have actually been inspired by that to change my own behavior. (Although I don't use Michelle's baby talk voice!) Somewhere early on in the show, Jim Bob was talking about how he used to get really angry, and encouraged his children to make him aware of it. He does seem to have a much better handle on his emotions now, even if he is oblivious in many other ways.

Melissa said...

I only caught the last half of the show, but I agree that the birthday gestures seemed very nice. It is too bad that they made Joy go shopping (instead of ice cream) especially since Anna stole the show with pointing out clothes for Michelle. I wonder, though, how did they fit so many things into one day? It seemed like a lot. I, too, am over the doctor's appts and dentist appts. That is so rude to videotape those kids going through that.
I almost lost it when I heard Michelle yell to Jordyn "Get your cup! Get your cup!!!" when the poor little thing was throwing up. Then Jim Bob grabbed it. I also think the whole "we'll let the youngest kids who are sick sleep in our room tonight" was sooo staged. Michelle was acting more annoyed then anything, and of course, they're worried about missing their trip. Whoopidy Doo! That's exactly why they shouldn't be galavanting all over the country like that when they have so many little ones. I can't see how that would be good for the little ones anyway (even if they weren't sick) with disrupting their routine- oh that's right- they don't have a routine!!! Sorry, I'm being very judgmental, but that's how I feel! My prayers go out for those kids, especially Jordyn and Jennifer, the lost children.
I will have to say that Josh has toned it down a little. Perhaps, he didn't realize how obnoxious he looks or sounds, and after reading this blog, maybe he's taken some hints?
Now Anna is the annoying one! And Jill still is annoying too because she can't keep her mouth shut.

Melissa said...

Oh, I never thought about it that way, but I agree with a previous comment that perhaps Josh's food problem may be in part to the fact that they had smaller portions growing up. That's a good point.

imaamy said...

I agree about Jim Bob going to the dentist in yesterday's outfit, especially since he was hinting there was some messy activity gonna happen in the hotel! One would assume they showered.

Also agree about them needing to look hands on with the little kids. Like they were gonna sleep on the floor in their clothes? Think not.

tulip said...

I doubt Anna is on an anti-depressent (probably not a Gothard-approved thing to do), although she acts like she is. Actually she just acts weird so much of the time. Her voice sounds strange with going from quiet to louder, sometimes it sounds like she's talking with something in her mouth, or like someone talks if one side of their face is numb because they've just had dental work done. She uses that baby voice when disciplining Mackynzie, and Mack just kept doing whatever she wanted anyway while Anna smiled like "oh well". I'm just pointing out these observations because I don't remember her like this early on, or even when she was pregnant with Michael, and also that others have noted the way she's acted.

Elspeth said...

Don't be deceived by the appearance that everything was in one day. Sometimes TLC films for three or four days and then presents it as a one day event.

Patrice said...

"Jim Bob was talking about how he used to get really angry, and encouraged his children to make him aware of it. He does seem to have a much better handle on his emotions now, even if he is oblivious in many other ways."
I think they try to control it for the cameras but I don't believe they act this way all the time. Even a year ago, when Michelle announced the Jubilee pregnancy, and Josiah ran from the room crying, JimBob brought him back, and held him in place with a firm grip on Josiah's elbow. It did look painful. As a mother and grandmother, I can honestly say that it wouldn't be one bit natural to NEVER lose your patience, no matter how much you love your children. With that many little ones running around all day and being as hyper as the Duggars are, I don't believe for one minute that Michelle "stays sweet" 24/7. If she does, it is because when the kids get too wild, she no doubt retreats to her room, locks the door, waits until the J-slaves have them settled down or in bed, and then comes out with her Stepford Wives demeanor intact. Those of us who raise our own children full time know that there are plenty of times when they test our patience. I do believe there are times that the camera catches looks of anger and resentment on both JimBob's and Michelle's faces, but once they realize they are on film, they quickly change their expressions. Just another unrealistic part of the show.

I enjoyed seeing Michelle and her b/day show..up until the vomiting. I did like Michelle's new straight hair do when they first showed it at the salon, then it kinda did its own thing and i have to agree with the person that posted that Michelle's hair looked like Grandma Duggars hair..thats what i thought too, but still Michelle has a pretty face and looks good IMO. Didn't care for the gun play...that just seems way out of line and seen to many gun episodes of the duggars and guns. Felt soo sorry for Joy she seems like a sweet heart. Oh well its all scripted but i cringe when the little kids get around the stairs. ALSO--Why soo much Anna? Its like this is the Anna show..humbug

I would rather have a mother who loses her temper, yells once in a while and acts like a normal human being with thoughts and feelings of her own instead of an automaton , who is afraid of giving her kids full on hugs for fear of defrauding ( sick ) them. And I'd rather have a mother who encourages her children to be the very best they can be in all ways, not just spiritually. And I'd rather have a mother who knows when it's time to let go and realizes her children have their own lives to lead and it's not all about her. I'd rather have a mother who isn't scared of warming the seat of her children's pants if they really are asking for it and really don't listen to her baby voiced parenting style. And I'd rather have a mother I can look up to who is her own person and who shares her thoughts, feelings, dreams and ideas without having them spoon fed to her. I'd rather have a genuine mother who has children she loves with her whole heart and wants to spend quality time with instead of behaving like she's in a breeding contest. And I would rather have a mother who's worried about her childrens' emotional well being instead of being concerned about whether her daughters knees are visible beneath her dress. I could go on, but you get my drift.

I think that Anna probably is annoyed with all of the kids rukas. I don't blame her one bit but she was probably instructed to be the narrator. I also think that she has adopted Michelles baby talk voice. In private Anna is probably more stern. Its all for show folks.Jim Bob REALLY annoys me with his subtle sex talk.

tater tot said...

What is with the baby talk by Michelle? Anna's sister Pricilla.. she has gone into the baby talk mode and sometimes Anna does too *Anna talks too much IMO*. Whats Up with that? TLC PLEASE stop showing vomiting children on this show. It's disgusting and makes me feel nauseated while watching that! This includes vomiting kittens or dogs.

Amazed that Jim Bob went to the dentist with no daughters helping. Too bad Michelle changed back her hair. Like everyone the puking has got to stop.

I hope Anna takes this a sign that that many kids is not for her. Josh didn`t seem to help other then holding one of his kids.

They should have as many as they can handle on their own. Its better then having 10 kids and not being able to handle them without help of the big sisters 24/7.

sandi said...

I guess they are showing Anna more since viewers don't really like Josh. And I'm glad Amy wasn't allowed to ham it up for the cameras.Anytime those two can just fade quietly into the background,it seems to be better for the show.
I agree,NO MORE vomiting,(or any gross thing,for that matter),it is really disgusting!

zebracrossing said...

There is always a running commentary from someone on the show. Lots of times it is JimBob I guess if there was silence it would seem awkward...and maybe if Anna is talking, she and Josh get part of the paycheck. I remember the first specials that came out had a voiceover person (not sure what to call that) who talked ABOUT them. Now that would seem weird to me. But the constant chatter is tiring for sure. I also wonder if during the couple interviews when they gaze and smile at the one who is talking....if that is a way of making it easier on themselves. I think it would be strange to be looking into a camera the whole time my husband was talking. I would much rather look at him than the camera! Just another thought.
AND, YES, the vomiting has got to stop...poor little babies...who wants a camera in the face when you are puking. yuck.

sandi said...

My thought about the cameras in the faces of the little ones when they're sick,is that someday when they're older, they're going to see themselves and think "Goodness,my mom and dad sure did sell me out!"
JMO,and I hope that gives Michelle and Jim Bob something to think about.Anna said her kids were sick, too.but thankfully,we didn't see that.

Marites H. said...

Seeing someone else throw up is disgusting and watching pushes me to the edge of the urge to throw up myself. I know it's part of real life, but spare us having to see it on this "reality TV". What we'd rather see is the unique things they experience in their real life as a family with 19 kids.

tater tot said...

Why O' Why do the Duggars show their kids vomiting, its sickening and the grab a styrafoam cup Ughhhhh...sick kids need to be cared for not shown on television. why TLC thinks the viewing audience wants/needs to see kids vomiting..cats and dogs vomiting is something i will just never get. My kids are all grown up..soo i know all about kids getting ill and puking as do most all of us. BUT WHY SHOW IT??? If this is all thats left to show---please pull da plug. I'm not surprised at all joy-Anna doesn't like shopping. For the Duggars shopping means going through other peoples rubbish/ cast-offs. I'm sure that with the TLC money they could buy some decent clothes. And by decent I don't neccesarily mean modest, although that might be the case. But a bit more style can't be a sin, can it?

I was surprised to see one of the kids singing the Veggie Tales theme song- did anyone else catch that ? Though Christian, it has a lot of modern music/ themes.

I did catch that Veggietales song as well, and meant to mention that too. Every once in a while, something pops up from the Duggars that, shall we say, is out of "character"? Just like the shopping scene, Michelle said she got to go to her favorite store (which I believe was Christopher & Banks)-that store can be pretty pricey, unless you pull something from the clearance rack, like a sleeveless top in the middle of the winter season. However, she's always seen wearing the same old shirt, which I think she's got in like 5 different colors, black skirt, and either flat loafer shoes, or those sling back crocs...so Christopher & Banks is her "favorite store"? There's a lot of things that seem to change as the TLC paychecks get bigger, no matter how much they're trying to pretend they haven't.

I am surprised that Michelle didn't say how precious it was when her kids were throwing up in styrofoam cups. It was so staged when they showed the younger kids sleeping in Jim Bob and Michelle's bedroom. I am sure the kids went back to their sister mom's room as soon as the camera crew left.

Michelle's hairstyle is important enough for a People article? I find that alarming in a national election week.

I do admit to cruising around the People website, but refuse to buy the magazine and canceled my subscription 2 years ago, after they kept insisting on giving Kate G. headlines and featuring her new hair and bikini bod on their covers. Honestly, they think Michelle's hair is worthy of press? And did she really "keep" the hair? Ya right...there's no way. Her, Jim Bob and the kids looked in shock, like she wasn't real-a cardboard cut-out, and couldn't wait for her to get the curling iron and sprunch spray out. When the only comments you get, from your FAMILY, are "I like it better long", and "It will grow back", I don't see how she can say she tries to wear it straight "when she can".

People mag. always seems to jump at the chance to feature the Duggars and Kate G., so unfortunately, this isn't surprising that they think Michelle's hair should hold its own next to the election and superstorm sandy.

Michelle's hair looked 100% better and she looked 10 years younger. What a shame that Jim Bob did not "encourage " his own wife and tell her how pretty she looked. For me the creepiest thing about the show was the kids decorating the hotel trysting place. Did they remember to pack the Gothard approved sex toys?

I would imagine Michelle and Jim Bob really think her new hairstyle is too modern and 'liberal' for them, and more for the appearance of a working woman (which Michelle does not profess to be),rather than for the stay-at-home image she desires to come across.
Therefore not Gothard approved,it is neither suitable for her.nor her daughters as well.
In that respect, they are lucky they can grow long hair,as not everyone can.JMO.
