Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 9:30 PM, Episode 24, Kittens and Konstruction

The Duggars are up to their knees in kittens! Michelle must teach the little ones how to feed, burp, and clean up after their newest additions. Meanwhile, John David is renovating a big project while also thinking about the future. 30 minutes No typo. That is what TLC titled the episode.

They made the dogs vomit all over the place... so now they're getting kittens? Whose bright idea was that? This family doesn't need any pets, they just have too many children and travel too often to devote any effort and time to raising a pet. Pets need attention and love and not 6 little ones grabbing at them all day long.

Oh gosh, please don't feed these poor kittens any cheese.

Patrice said...

And what the heck? Kittens don't need burping. Michelle is going to make an even bigger fool of herself than she already is, if she is holding a kitten up on her shoulder to burp it. I would tune in for that alone! A nice hairball ralphed into the rat's nest on her head would be priceless!

"Konstruction": But that's how they spell it in the Wisdom Books.....

TLC, why must you keep doing this!? Please, you know that this family cannot take proper care of animals and that the children torment them and feed them foods that make them sick.

This is getting to be too much. These people do not hold animals in high regard and don't care if they are mistreated. The puppy episode was evidence of this!

AMEN. And we are supposed to believe the Duggars SO VALUE ALL OF LIFE - DuggarThink = we must be militantly anti abortion but we fail to supervise our kids to prevent mistreatment of helpless young pets.

Hypocrisy, thine name is Duggar.

Will this be the episode where John David is getting his future home ready and talks about courting someone? Or is that just a tease, and we'll get two sentences out of him before it goes back to the kittens?

Sounded to me that JimBob was pretty much forcing JohnDavid into marriage. Kind of like you're 22 time to get married now doesn't matter if you want to or not. Very sad.

I'm happy for John David. He's quiet, but seems very solid, hard-working, and good-hearted. Being able to have a home free and clear in return for a few months work is fantastic. I so wanted to see his house, but understand why they didn't show it. He seems like a sweet young man to me.

Good lord, the camera really does add 10, if not 20 lbs. That shot of Josh coming down the stairs of his lot to "negotiate" with that guy (after goofing off for the two hours he's at the lot...I call set up for that entire scene), he looked like he was going to pop twins. His face is also bloated beyond recognition.

YUCK!

Wow Michelle, keeping three tiny kittens in a pitcher? PETA may be making a housecall soon.

Kittens in a pitcher?! I may not be a cat person; I've had only dogs; but I have never kept any living creature in a plastic pitcher with the lid on. Someone stop the insanity!

Why does John David have to be married to live in his OWN house?

I thought that was freaky. He is a 22 year old man.

I hope he owns the house, and moves away from the bunkbeds when he has it complete married or not.

Felt sorry for the cats, they do not have time to take care of them. I never heard of cats being burped either.

I was so touched and encouraged that Michelle was willing to give the kittens their night feeds. Who cares for her human blessings at night? Actions tend to speak much louder than words. JMHO.

My heart breaks for John David. He has to live at home until he gets married to avoid temptation. (He's 22!) And he has to get married soon because he's almost an old man of 23. Not to mention, he's so shy and awkward; he never says anything.

Mrs. Barker said...

I hope John David and Jana can be set free soon. Jana looked and sounded depressed in her short responses last night. John David also has that lost look in his eyes like he wants more. Being a grown man being treated like his little brothers is so emasculating. Also, what will it take for them to stop making their girls work in the dangerous and dirty environment in beach flip flops? It's bad enough they have to wear dresses with no leg protection from glass and fiberglass, but glass or nail, or wire could pierce those cheap flops and really cause a nasty injury.

What made Michelle think of putting the kittens in a plastic pitcher?-I don't see how they could possibly even move around, not to mention they're piled up on top of each other with that pitcher standing up on the counter with a lid! I knew I remembered Josh & Anna already had a kitten when Mackynzie was younger, and wondered if they still had it. So they decided to let it "live" outside, and it just never came back-they assumed it found a new family at a neighbor's? I feel sorry for the new kitten, and hope they don't kick this one out of the house after only a few months.

Jim Bob thinks it's about time for John to get married? That's the problem with all this-they have to stay at home until they get married, but what if they don't really want to get married until their late 20s, or 30s, or maybe not at all!...then what? Just makes me wonder if that's another secret Gothard rule of life-a certain age when older 'children' need to be married in order to have a fulfilling, and proper, Christian life (even though Gothard himself isn't married, it sure hasn't stopped him from making other 'rules' he has no experience with, and knows nothing about.)

Also the adult children must stay home and close to mom and dad as to be "protected". From what I ask you?

It was about as awful as I thought it would be. Putting kittens in a pitcher? Let me tell you, this made me cry. What is wrong with these people? TLC what are you doing? What are you thinking? How can you stand by and allow this?

How was this encouraging?

From all the rest of us who are not uber conservative, therefore, by Duggar Think, SINNERS who spend our lives just trying to tempt the holy Duggar types into sin and degradation with our liberal ways. Yes, it's what we live for - tempting holy conservative Christians to join us in sin.

This was one of the crazier episodes.First,Josh and Anna, please keep your pets inside, esp.if they start off that way. They aren't prepared for the outside worlde, they could get hurt, killed, etc.Shelters and humane societies advocate keeping cats indoors. They're safer. If not then don't get a cat.I would never presume your cat just took up with a neighbor.Truth is,it could be something bad happened to the cat.
And yikes...kittens in a pitcher! Why not a soft bed in the corner? That could have fallen over or off the counter, and the kittens could have gotten hurt.Their logic defies me.
And Joh David...what must a grown man be proected from? Jim Bob failed to clairify. He's perfectly capable of living on his own.NO,I don't agree that yougn adults should live with their parents until they get married. One they might not WANT to get married, and two, young ppl SHOULD live on their own first before marriage,to find out who they are and what they really want. It's not all about the parents. How long are these adults expected to live for their parents? Do they not ever feel a sense of freedom until their parents pass away,or become too old or feeble-minded to care what their adult offspring are doing?I don't think neither Jim Bob nor Michelle would have ever appreciated such intrusion into their adult lives.I recall in their first book,Michelle said something about being free to live their own lives. So why they think it's ok to stifle their offsrping defies me.JMO.
This episode gave me a real headache!

I'm still trying to figure out that mix they showed that they were feeding the kittens, with an egg yolk, tablespoon of 7-up, etc.? It seemed strange to me. My grandmother took care of orphan kittens once when she still lived on her farm, and the only thing I remember her talking about was mixing baby food with kitten formula. And as far as burping, I think she said after feeding them she had to rub their stomachs (not pat their backs.) I know she didn't keep them in a plastic lemonade pitcher!

Patrice said...

This animal abuse, along with the ongoing child neglect, is insanity. Thank God I missed last night's episode. Kittens in a pitcher? That defies all logic. I can only hope the TLC crew had enough brains to remove the kittens from the pitcher, since the collective Duggar IQ seems to remain in the single digits. When will someone stop the insanity of this show? Births on a toilet, a fetus put in an ammo box after a funeral grander than a celebrity's, MOTY laughing maniacally when her toddler's head get stuck in a railing, kids hopping on a pogo stick straight towards a plate glass window, kittens in a closed plastic pitcher? What next? Target practice at passing cars? A field trip to a morgue? Stirring cake batter with filthy feet? Think of the most bizarre situation and the Duggars will probably be filmed doing it sooner or later! And people think the Honey BooBoo clan is bad? I'd rather spend a day with them than an hour with the insanity that is the Duggar life.

I don't even know what to say about Michelle putting the kittens in a Rubbermaid pitcher. That is just beyond words.

John David is getting the pressure from ole dad to get married. Maybe Jim Bob should be busier finding a husband for one of his daughters. Not Jessa though. She's not just sitting at home eating bon bons waiting for prince charming. No, she's.... just.... raising her mother's children. What else is she pursuing at this time? Doesn't seem like much. Speaking of Jessa, what was up with all of her "zingers" on this episode?

Michelle fretted over those kittens more than I've seen her care for one of her own children since Josie was an infant.

tulip said...

I noticed Jessa too, and meant to mention something. She definitely has developed an attitude and is rather sarcastic. I don't see a gentle, sweet spirit coming from her lately, wonder if Jim Bob & Michelle will take notice, and she'll be sitting out interviews for awhile. Don't get me wrong, maybe it's good she feels like she can be sassy, but it's coming off as pretty self-righteous IMO.

imaamy said...

I just watched it now...why not use one of the boxes they used to take the kittens to the vet (at least they did that!) and some old blankets and towels? Isn't that what most people would do? If they can survive inside a wall I guess they can survive a pitcher but can the Duggars say, "suffocation"?

Stephanie said...

I must disagree with you regarding Jessa. I was surprised that she joked about the little kids having to care for the kittens. She joked saying the gothard PC answer and said something like "now they know what its like to have that responsibility, haha" and Jinger laughed too.

She came close to saying "now the little kids get a taste of what we have done for YEARS". Of course the little kids won't have to push cats in strollers, or educate them, but I guess its better than nothing.

Its what Michelle gets for having so many kids. I guarantee those kids brought that up "we have a big family, we should have enough pets for a big family". Michelle was so perfect in her answers, at least Jimbob joked that the cats aren't a blessing.

Out of 20 people living there my guess is they will discover a cat allergy and the new cats will be gone soon.

Michelle, get Josiah to a doctor immediately for his skin. You have been lucky none of your kids have been plagued with acne before now. Get him some meds for that. He shouldn't have to suffer for that.

So since there are no more babies, they have turned to kitten hoarding? That house is already chaotic so the animals just add to the craziness.

The Stoney Brook home is nice. Possible upgrade for Josh and Anna maybe? Even though they have only two children, the house they are in now is too small. It's cozy for newlyweds but not two toddlers. Mackynzie and Michael will eventually need more space.

It's good to see John David be such a hard working young man. It's sad though that he has been taught to be believe a young person's place is in their parents' home until he is married because it "protects" them.

Stephanie said...

I agree. I wish Anna could get that beautiful house. Jimbob isn't the only person who sees a diamond in the rough. I love that house and the design and details.

Anna deserves if for the toilet birth and babysitting Michelles kids on that miserable bus trip when she was 9 months pregnant.

They WANTED a bus birth for the publicity.

Just saw the episode, and 3 main things bothered me.

I think Jana is so sweet, but so beaten down, and I wanted to reach through the screen and implore her not to feel pressured to say things like, "Kittens are a blessing." I think she's terrified that if she doesn't spout off some Gothard/Duggar platitude, that she'll go to H-E-double hockey sticks and/or be sent back to camp. Jana, you can say the kittens are a pain in the butt! God will still love you!

I also wanted to reach through the screen and throttle JimBob when he said he likes to bring 2-3 kids with him when he goes to these renovation projects, because he needs the help and it's good learning. Hello, what else are your kids doing? Why WOULDN'T you bring some with you? It's not like they are out earning actual MONEY at a paying job...going to school outside the home...or doing anything else that's not directed by you. They are your free labor, much like all your "friends who help out."

And, I agree with others who said how insulting it is that JimBob said his adult children need protection. I don't get their mindset regarding adulthood and marriage. These young adults must live at home, be directed by their parents, chaperoned at every step of the way, work only on jobs that their Dad directs, wear hair and clothing styles that reflect their parents' mandates, and never, ever be alone on an outing with a member of the opposite sex, even if they plan to marry that person! Then, all the sudden, after that magical first kiss on the altar, these kids are supposed to have all the knowledge, wisdom, and life experience needed to be successful spouses, money managers, providers, parents, etc.?

tulip said...

Anna may deserve the Stony Brook house, but Josh does not! Josh has thus far gotten everything handed to him (as far as I can tell), maybe because he got married so early and Jim Bob felt he had no choice but to get him started. The blurb on this latest episode even stated Josh has owned the carlot since he was 19, like it's some extraordinary feat. Right after that, they showed him goofing off flying around that plane, while the others are shown actually working.

I haven't seen or heard one peep that Josh is attempting to find a bigger place for his family. Their house is a cracker box. I mean, if someone has a smaller place for their family because that's what they are able to afford, etc. then a blessing it is-but no one can say there isn't something more comfortable out there for Anna & the kids. How long will they keep Michael in his crib in their room? Then what? Will they let sister & brother share a room? (mixed gender "allowed" by Gothard list for living?) Josh has not even bothered to install closet doors the entire time they've lived there. Maybe they don't want closet doors? Doubt it-I would think if you keep boxes of cash in your closet, you might like it to have a door. Scuffed and nicked up trim, a missing kitchen cabinet drawer, bathtub in desperate need of new grout/caulk...I've noticed all these things and more, and don't see Josh lifting a finger to do any of these maintenance jobs or much of anything else around the house, except coming home and sitting down to eat a big meal cooked and served to him by Anna, while she was taking care of 2 little kids and doing chores all day in that tiny, cramped space.

Jim Bob will probably rent that nice house anyway, since it will give him the opportunity to bring in more money that can go straight to his and Michelle's bank account.

About Michael and Mack sharing a room...I distinctly remember on an episode right around when Michael was born that there is a sign saying "The Kidz" (yes, kidz) over the door of the bedroom that is not Josh and Anna's.

Those kittens were old enough and healthy enough to have been cared for by a mother cat, which leads me to believe that their mother is around their somewhere and had come into the house for shelter to birth her babies. The guys should have come to that conclusion and looked around for A. more kittens and B. the mother cat.

Homemade formula for any baby living thing is dangerous. Kitten formula is available at any pet store with appropriate bottles and instructions. Burping kittens is unnecessary, though if their abdomens are taut they can be gently massaged to ease out any gas (which does not come up out of their mouths, but rather the other end.) Leaving such young kittens at the mercy of young children and toddlers is irresponsible, neglectful and dangerous (to the kittens.) I suspect those kittens will be brought to the shelter soon enough, if they haven't been already.

Canadian Fan said...

Have the people who have given these animals to the Duggars not seen previous episodes of the show? Like Dr. Phil says, past behaviour predicts future behaviour. They might be wonderful, Christian folks but they have no idea how to be responsible pet owners.

Goodie said...

I agree with Stephanie. Those kids definitely need some skin care. There's no reason for them to suffer like that. JMHO

Angela said...

I do believe JimBob said that Michelle worked at an animal hospital before they were married. I think that's how she knew how to make formula etc. Kittens like ti sleep piled together when they're babies.
