Watched the Puerto Rico episode last night. Really don't know what to say. Michelle is afraid her children will be sucked into the world? And the girls at the birthday party. Anyone else find that just weird? It's plain to see that these girls consider themselves experts in giving dating advice. I find that amusing, considering they aren't allowed within ten feet of a man. I also feel that they come across super snobbish, superior and judgmental. I feel sorry for Grandma. She must be in a financial bind. While its nice she has been given a place in the home, the take terrible advantage of her, but giggle and say she's happy to do it. All in all, the entire episode was a failed attempt to portray the family as regular people with regular problems. Sorry, after listening to the soapbox speeches for years, the leopards cant change their spots.

Slightly Freaked Out said...

I was actually pleasantly surprised that Michelle said that she feels the brunt of the responsibility and that JB was not carrying his weight. Now, I agree that the older girls carry more load than they should, but I found it refreshing to see them actually express issues rather than the cutesy cute, "we have a great marriage" message we ususally get.

hello said...

I did find it odd that the girls were giving "dating" advice at a birthday party. They were just repeating what has been drilled into their heads since birth. They are not allowed to even talk to a boy that is not a family member without JimBob stepping in.
The whole marriage retreat was just a way for JimBob and Michelle to get away. JimBob once again made a fool of himself. Did he really have to cut his jeans to use to go snorkeling? I guess he thought if he wore bathing trunks women would be swooning all over him. Michelle might as well have just gone in the water in her clothes.

Not a Fan said...

I only caught bits and pieces. That said I found it annoying that JimBob went in the ocean in his clothes. There are long board short type swim trunks as well as swim friendly shirts (rash guards) he could have worn instead. As far as Michelle's suit/dress thing. Gasp! I think I saw a knee when JimBob was trying to take her picture. These suit/dresses definitely don't exude confidence in ones appearance. I would feel like there was something wrong with my body if I was handed one of those to wear. Then to be told it was to keep my end of making sure men don't "desire" me, I'd feel like I was a horrible person just because I have legs. These people are ridiculous. They are not doing their kids any favors by keeping them in such bubbles. Someone also commented on this swimwear being unsafe. I second that. Having all that extra material and weight, can't exactly be safe. Not that they would ever visit a water park, but, if they did the girls would not be allowed to participate in rides wearing those dress things.

Jill used the same tired phrase "stir up desires that can't be righteously fulfilled." It sounds like she memorized a manual! She was talking to teenaged girls, use normal young person language!

I didn't notice Grandma D's clothes recently, but everytime she wear pants, I get a little thrill of rebellion. You go Grandma!

flowerchild said...

Did anyone else notice that one of the older girls said that Michele and jimbob treat the younger kids more like grandparents than parents. I thought wow that's telling! And Michele's comment of being afraid for her adult children in the world. That's so sad her fear that they might fall from perfection is hobbling their lives. There are plenty of descent Christians that live in the world and are not worldly.

Dee said...

How realistic is it that Jim Bob and Michele had to fly all the way from Arkansas to Puerto Rico for a marriage class? Are they kidding? Talk about a set-up for a free vacation with a zip line, etc.

I have a relative who has two degrees in social work/psychology, teaches at the college level, sees clients, is studying for her Ph.D., and has adopted two children from Asia.

As far as a traditional adoption agency even considering the Duggars, she told me there is no way this could ever happen.

Of course, sometimes private adoptions are done. But I doubt the Duggars would actually do it.

Adoption can be very expensive, and why would the Duggars pay any money if they expect "the Lord" to provide one child after another to them in the traditional way? Oh, wait, maybe they would expect TLC to pay the adoption fees the way they get free vacations through them.

When the TLC gravy train finally ends, it's going to be very difficult, especially for Josh and Anna.

As far as a traditional adoption agency even considering the Duggars, she told me there is no way this could ever happen.

I've talked to couples who have adopted, as well as someone who was a foster parent and they adopted one of their fosters. They said there is no reason why a couple who has a steady source of income (commercial retail property ownership), have adult children who are employed, young children who have no learning disabilities, a large house, have shown they are caring people would have difficulty adopting a child. Having said that, I think with them already having 19 children, it would be selfish to deny an infertile couple a chance to adopt a child.

Elspeth said...

From what I've heard the Duggars would have to go private adoption based just on their bedroom situation. I still don't think they are really going to adopt. It's just like Kate Gosselin. They are talking it up to keep the interest up, but they don't plan on actually adopting the child.

Special Ed Lady said...

I am very annoyed over their adoption thing. It took us many years of waiting for a child. Than was 35 years ago, the wait is longer now. They have 19 healthy children, I know they are all not children. There are people out there praying for just one child. How can they even think that this is the right thing to do.

Allison said...

There are more children waiting to be adopted than there are interested parents. That's why the foster care system exists. If the Duggars want and can adopt even one child, that's one more child who has a home. It's not like there is a shortage for infertile couples. However, I wish they would have focused on adoption much earlier. I think it's great when I see large families full of adopted children. But to me it seems like afterthought, and more about "collecting children" then really have a heart for adoption.

Special Ed Lady said...

Here in Ohio, foster children seldom become available for adoption. The laws are being changed but it is not easy. There is usually a 5 year wait after being approved. Unless, adopting a sibling group or special needs, one can only adopt 2 children in our state. I realize it varies from state to state.

Wampascat said...

I can only see them wanting to adopt a baby. An older child or toddler would have too much "baggage", I'm sure.

Slightly Freaked Out said...

I suspect that if they are going to adopt, they would do an overseas adoption. They seem to do more mission work with orphans when out of the country - ie on their Central America and Asian trips.

Rudy Tecat said...

It will be ok if they adopt an older special needs child since the older daughters are still around to take care of him/her. I wouldn't worry about JB or Michelle missing any speaking engagements.

Boo's Mom said...

I know the process varies by state, but would the Duggars be approved? The process is long, invasive and has alot of rules (including surprise visits from social workers). If the rules in AR are anything like they are here in CA, it will be interesting for them if they decide to adopt (or try to) In some states there may even be age limitations.

David Waller has posted pictures on his website-of visiting the Kellers and Anna and family were there. He also posted pictures of the ATI conference. Pictures with them with Susanna and her baby and mother Keller holding the baby and Susanna in her jeans sitting next to her Mom. So hopefully things are well with Susanna and her family.

imaamy said...

I think all Anna's sisters are pretty, but Susanna looked really great in those pics, especially for having an infant!

Nancy said...

Dear baby Jeebus, for a guy who works directly for Gothard, David Waller's writing is just awful. He seems to think he's really clever writing about himself in the 3rd person, but there are several grammatical errors that should have been corrected when he was about 12. His writing also switches from active to passive voice, sometimes in the same sentence!

Frankly, if he is an example of Gothard's next generation of shining stars, I expect that ATI and Gothard's horrific teachings won't last long after he dies.

I'm shocked that they allowed Suze Keller on the grounds at Big Sandy Wearing jeans. I thought the women had to be in skirts at all times (and special uniforms for the younger females in daily group activities, ie. choir or orchestra).

I'll be curious to see if Anna makes any mention of four Keller sisters being pregnant at the same time when she goes for her ultrasound (Noelle and Esther's baby were born about a week apart, early February-ish?).

Alberta Rose said...

No they don't. If you check, there is no rule that says visitors must dress the same as students and volunteers.

Faith said...

I too was surprised to see a non-Gothard allowed at the Big Sandy event. I wonder if some kind of exception was made given Suze's family. I wonder if she stayed the whole time or just came for a quick visit.

Faith said...

Nancy's comment about David Waller's grammar made me think about how Gothard was giving a speech at the convention about the evils of higher education. I think the encouragement to not go off to college "kills two birds with one stone." It helps to ensure that followers are "protected" from the outside world and the world's ideas that challenge Gothard's and it helps followers follow through with the philosophy that people should not go into debt.

Why did Christians ever start following this Gothard guy in the first place???

ES lady said...

I think people genuinely want to do right for their children. And on the surface, it sounds good to have faith, focus on family and service. So they get sucked in and then get brainwashed into the sicker side of this cult. It is just so sad to watch this get played out on TV. Perhaps this will actually expose Gothardism for what it really is and start its demise.

I for one am very tired of the instruction not to stir up feelings that cannot be righteously fulfilled. Do they really think their sons are not 'unrighteously' fulfilling their desires? I know they restrict their children's privacy, but expecting to avoid this is just ridiculous.

Nancy said...

I wasn't aware that they allowed "visitors" at these homeschool conferences. I assumed, based on Gothard's history of squeezing every penny he can out of his foillowers, that Suze had to pay to be on the grounds.

Being a visitor would make more sense, but still curious how she got there, given that the sister who supports her is the sister who got out of ATI and working at Cheesecake Factory doesn't (especially after maternity leave, even paid) doesn't really allow for road trips, even if it's only from Dallas (?) Sister R. lives somewhere in TX - Houston area? Too lazy to look up. The only thing I can think of is if she took off a couple days in the middle of the week, since these conferences run from Tuesday - Friday.

Nancy said...

Sorry I didn't see this before I hit enter, but Faith, you read my mind about the "Evils of Higher Education" speech.

Can't have people....uhhh....THHINKING FOR THEMSELVES, can we? I'm sorry, but that's how cults operate. Keep them close, or in this case at home, so exploration of the real world doesn't reveal the lies of Gothtard's "teachings."

*facepalm*

I wonder if Gothard would have a problem with his followers borrowing money to pay his $650+ yearly fee?

sandi said...

---------------------------------

I wonder that, too. If I were Jim Bob and Michelle,my hinky meter would have been on HIGH alert as soon as I learned you had to have someone come out and scrutinize your lifetyle, then be APPROVED to join ATI.
Without getting religious,I'll say that the core beliefs at the heart of their religion are not subject to the nonsense that sets ATI followers apart from other mainstream beleivers.
I realize Jim Bob went to private school and was thus sent a message in this direction at an early age (I'm not against private school in general though),however,it didn't mean he had to elevate it to a higher level of removing himself, abnd his family, from mainstream followers and putting them all on a 'higher' pedestal than other believers.JMO.

Isn't the homeschool conference fee a family fee? If so Suez being a unmarried female might still be included on the family roster and thus have a paid for ticket to me there.

Nancy said...

I could be wrong, but I saw the application for Big Sandy and they want the name and age of every attendee. They charge per family or individual, then braeak it down if you're ATI or not. Where they get you is that they charge for the daily activities per kid. So, if the Duggars were actually paying, it would cost them $70/head for each boy from Jackson to the twins to attend ALERT. They also charge for meals per head if you haven't had the foresight to bring your own.

Suze could have been there on a non-ATI day pass; I don't Big Sandy is very far from Houston.

farriswheel said...

Re: foster/adopt.... 1st Gothard is VERY opposed to adoption, sins of the father type thing.

2nd in Arkansas each foster child has to have so many square feet of sleeping space, the size of a twin and a dresser. They can not share a bed, they can not share aroom with a child of the opposite sex. There are tons of rules like these but these two knock them out for DHS adoption.

Gothard wants to keep his followers dumb and uneducated so that he can control all the information they get. Big Sandy is when they get infected for the year.

I must comment about Susanna K. Before she had her baby she was working two, non-skilled jobs, while heavily pregnant and single. I really felt sorry for her "dr. Told her it was time to work only 1 job". I never commented on FB of course, but I felt for her. She had a chance to get away, and of all the bad luck. Now she's is a walking example to Gothard about the "sins of non-Gothard life or something.

Yes they are "helping" her but what strings are attached? I can only imagine.

Slightly Freaked Out said...

What happened to Susanna's baby daddy? I thought they were engaged. Is she living with the other non-Gothard following sister now? I hope so. I hope they love and accept her without all the hell-fire and damnation talk.

sandi said...

I see Susanna as having been blessed with a very beautiful, very healthy baby. And it looks like she has some education (I think someone said she went to culinary school) and a steady job.Whether she wants a man in their future is up to her..I feel bad for what happened to her, but it's up to her now,at least she can call all her own shots and not be subject to Gothard and what daddy wants for her.I see her as a strong young woman. :) How many of us can say that about the Duggar girls? They are still stuck on the compound, playing sister mom,not having their own job or their own family, with their 'choices' needing to be pre-approved by dad.Not much in the way of being strong and own your own, living your own life and calling your own shots there, imo.

That reminds me of Kelly Bates saying the conference was like a 'shot in the arm'.I guess it is literally like so.

Nancy said...

Suze did a short-term baking class when she first left her parents to live with the non-Gothard sister, Rebekah. She was working as a baker at the Cheesecake Factory; baby daddy is long gone and she is back living with Rebekah's family.

Her choice to visit the members of the family in TX. It's closer than taking the baby to Florida, Arkansas, and Illinois (she may not be permitted in some of their homes, who knows). Big Sandy is neutral turf, as long as she doesn't attend any of the activities/seminars/speeches.

At any rate, I'm glad that some of the Kellers got to meet their granddaughter/niece. I wonder if any of the Duggar girls met up with her, or she is now "damaged goods" and off limits to the pure Duggar daughters, even the ones who are older (I think she's Jessa's age).

The 911 call involves a delivery with which the two midwife girls (Jana and ??) are assisting. Maybe they are showing homebirth in a less positive light? I hope everything goes OK for the mom and baby. I guess it is worth the $$ for these homebirth couples to consent to filming? If I was down to my last dime, there would not be a camera in the delivery room with me!

Does Gothard encourage shunning for those who mess up? I can see him saying it teaches the consequences of whatever sin.

sandi said...

Rocky isn't rated G,so I can't see it being an approved movie.
I'm guessing the Duggar girls would not be allowed around Suze now;recall that Jim Bob likes the saying 'show me your friends and I'll show you your future'.So unwed mothers off limits,it appears? Unless they're widowed.(wouldn't they still be considered as used bikes, like Jim Bob's examaple of womem?) This is a shame;all women should be taught they have value and that it doesn't hinge on their past.

I watched the newest video post on David and Pricilla Waller's website and I just started to cry. A few years ago my best friend from college got very sick after she had her third baby. She started getting these horrific panic attacks and she could not function. It must have been a chemical or hormonal imbalance because it was not problems or issues in her life. Anyway, the drugs that the doctors put her on made her act like she had Alzheimer's or something; she was like a zombie and I was so scared that she would lose her mind. It took two years before doctors were able to figure out the right drugs and dosages so that she could be calm and sharp.

I guess it brought that all back for me because I could not believe it when I saw Pricilla on this video. She looks like she is heavily medicated and cannot speak or put words together. I hope she is alright. I always liked her on 19 Kids and Counting. She seems very mentally ill since she got married and I do not think it is some kind of an act. I think that there is really something wrong and I hope she can get proper care.

Not a Fan said...

Priscilla definitely has baby brain or something. I know that after my twins were born, putting a clear thought together was not that easy to do. Lack of sleep and all the other daily things tend to take a toll of ones ability to sound even remotely intelligent. n addition to that, I have always felt that being on camera makes her a little uneasy as well. David is a jerk in my opinion for making her do this. If he watched how uncomfortable she seemed on camera, you would think that one he would stop posting them and two stop making her do them. But as a dutiful wife I guess she is not allowed to say no. It is really sad and pathetic on their part.

Elspeth said...

The problem is that Priscilla has been this way since her first appearance with the Duggars.

Andrea said...

The David loves Priscilla video was way too difficult to even watch. What is wrong with this girl? She has been very seriously brainwashed. It's painful - her looking over at him and choosing her words not to offend him. Please sister say it like it is: "Raising a baby is hard and this man child named David is no help." Ugh. Poor girl. Run, run, run. This cult is really sick. I hope she is seeing a medical professional for her clear emoitonal issues and maybe getting some birth control. But who are we kidding, these two might not have any more children as we all believe David is a closeted homosexual. Ouch. That was particularly mean.

sandi said...

Recall that David promised Priscilla's father that they would leave the no. of children up to God. (I have a feeling he would feel differently if men had babies!).So I'm sure they are expected to pop out the next baby very soon, sooner than most of the rest of society would have their next one. This is very sad and shows a clear lack of boundaries.
In addition to 'what if they don't really want a lot of kids?' is the concern of Pricilla's health;I have a feeling nothing, just nothing..even a Dr. TELLING them not to have more..would have any effect on their family's expectations of them....at all.Nor would they even be able to stand up to them and say "no more!",despite their beleif that a wife is under only her husband's authority.JMO.

Duggar fans talk about how the kids are all well-behaved. However, I read on another page where a lady met them in town recently and Joy Anna wouldn't talk to her or shake her hand. Jana answered questions the lady asked. In way I could understand her behavior. They spend hours in front of the cameras and constantly traveling. I still thought it rather impolite not to at least speak to the person. Of course you take these things with a grain of salt, but I have read similar things before.

Andrea said...

Hurray for Joy for standing up for herself! If she was an ordinary citizen no one would bother her in town, she'd just be another 16 year old High School student. Also, how very rude to ask questions and interact with someone who clearly does not want to be bothered. I didn't read the post you are referring to, but that's the way I feel about celebrates in generally .... Just leave them alone. Also lots of celebrates are ego maniacs so ignoring them actually hurts their self esteem ... think about what would happen if people didn't fall over Jim Bob and Michelle. I actually feel very badly for the children as they have no say in whether or not thier lives are filmed.

The part about Priscilla's birthing experience that I am in awe about is the fact that this woman was in labor for 27 hours and gave birth to a 9+ pound baby without any medication. In my opinion, that's pretty darn impressive.

Beth Anne said...

Re: "this woman (Priscilla) was in labor for 27 hours and gave birth to a 9+ pound baby without any medication."

I agree that is impressive...so glad she had a healthy baby! However, what concerns me is that, even if she was in severe pain and wanted some pain relief, she probably wouldn't be "allowed" to ask for it, as that is not the fundamentalist way. Natural birth/homebirth is the only "acceptable" way to go, just like homeschooling, no touching or kissing prior to marriage, etc. These folks are caught up in following a very strictly defined path, and David no doubt would not be amenable to his wife straying from what "all" the fundamentalists do, lest it ruin his and his family's reputation.

My husband, son and I have volunteered and been in the loop with disaster relief...never heard of ALERT...but that is just my experience. I hope the graduates of this will get to use their skills. But usually disaster relief is called out as a certain group who all live near each other...in same region at least. The youth who participated in the ALERT all live around the country...are not really a connected group who continue to train and update their skills together regularly (at least that is my take)....so don't see how they could be called out to a specific area of disaster together. Maybe they help one on one -IF that is allowed. At a disaster area...there is strict protocol of who can enter the area....keeps out adventure seekers and such. You really have to have proper i.d. to be able to help in most situations. I think it would be neat if there was a posting on website of the places they were able to go.

More evidence of Duggar duplicity:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7VHv_Ik_Spo/UZY_StPkTgI/AAAAAAAAIUY/czaSdyy7pg4/s400/tour+playroom.png

This totally contradicts the recent Parentables article that said the kids are in "school" for five hours a day, incidentally with a lunch break during the time they are, according to the form above, actually in "school." Hilarious that they couldn't even figure out who was the Principal and the "Super Intendent" (sic).
-
I buy this as accurate because there's no way those kids are up at 7, given their night-owl schedule; I imagine they have breakfast - such as it is, it's more like foraging from what we've seen - around 9, do their "quick clean," then commence "school" at 11. Lunch at 2, then Wisdom Booklet time before free time/music practice. I imagine dinner happens a little bit later as well, given "teacher" Jessa is the cook.

Beth Anne said...

Re: "This totally contradicts the recent Parentables article that said the kids are in "school" for five hours a day."

I caught that, too! They can't keep their stories straight! I think for Michelle's Parentables article, she just copied and pasted the 'suggested' daily schedule from some ATI book or pamphlet for homeschoolers.

I guess it was too much to ask for Michelle to recognize that the Parentables article she posted was really close in time to the episode they recently aired that talked about the 11-2 schedule in the playroom, with numerous 'friends who help out.' My guess is that JimBob does not open his wallet to compensate these friends who do the homeschooling. And, Michelle forgot that their one book mentioned that Josh had started at an outside pre-school, whereas on the TV show she blathers on that they have ALWAYS done homeschooling, starting with Josh.

ALERT is nothing more than a way for the cult to make money. How much does this 50 week course cost? Are scholarships available for those unable to pay? ALERT and Journey to the Heart are just examples of money making schemes for Gothard. After reading through some of the information on the website further, I'd have to agree with you. Here is the link to the FAQ page, which contains lots of information, including that about 'scholarships' and financial aid. Right after that, however, it talks about non-issue 'gear' cost, which varies in price from $1,200 to $1,500. That's just the GEAR - not the academy cost.

And, this stood out as a red flag to me, talking about how men who choose the Service Response Team option MAY be deployed off-campus for disaster-relief assistance to meet special service project needs. Not, you will be a full-time service response person, or you are expected to be available 24/7 for response work, but occasionally some of these folks actually leave the ATI campus. The website also brags about RECENT deployments (their word), which include:

Humanitarian Aid to Haiti (2005)
Columbia Shuttle Recovery (2003)
Missouri Tornado Relief (2003)

That's wonderful if some of these men were able to help, but I wouldn't call 2003 and 2005 RECENT. Think about how many ATI young men have shelled out thousands of dollars for this non-accredited academy and have never been 'deployed.'

Speaking of "expert advice," I accidentally clicked myself over to ja20.com earlier today. They've revamped the website to reflect that Michael exists and a 3rd is on the way. The write-ups are still inane; Josh could have used this opportunity to mention Anna's degree, such as it is, in Early Childhood Education, and his supposed degree (never bought that one for a second) in Political Science. Wouldn't someone dealing with Josh in DC who hasn't heard of him have his assistants google Josh and learn how incompetent he really is? Or that they belong to ATI (which is easily googled and researchable).

Josh IS availing himself to social media, so he's really trying to drum up more of a fanbase; I wonder if TLC asked him to do this to gauge interest for a spinoff, or whether the spinoff was in the works and TLC can monitor J&A's fanbase (which, based on looking at his Instagram/FB, is mainly young teen girls and their mothers). His twitter is MUCH more political; I'm proud to say he banned one of my accounts when I dared point out that something he was touted (about Obama, IIRC) had been proven to be false.

If his skin is so thin on social media, how is he going to hold up going face-to-face with hard-core lobbyists from the other side of the main issue he'll be working with (suppression of gay rights). Good luck with that, son.

I looked at this ALERT link and linked more and found something thru ATI called Oak Brook College of Law. ITS UNREAL. They teach "law" the right way, the way the law should be written. If I had money I would join ATI and write and do a documentary about it like that guy did with McDonalds in "SuperSize Me". I'm willing and can write if I had some sponsors. So sick of fluff Today show spots about this cult.

If ATI has this "law school" why didn't Josh do that? They couldn't even let him go to cult law school.

Now that I think about it, the only reason we know about the dirty secret of Scientology is because the Tampa local papers really stay on their case, then it hits the AP and add the celebrity factor. Why won't someone blow up Bill Gothard? We all could if we had the funds.

Off the FRC topic and back to Jinger musing that she wants to live in a big city. I don't have the entire quote, but at some point Michelle said that Jinger didn't really mean she wanted to live in a big city. She just wanted to be "within 15 minutes of a WalMart." And that they live so far out in the "country" on their "20 acres" (notice she gets in all the talking points). All Jinger REALLY wants is a shorter drive to the stores.

REALLY, Michelle? I'd be inclined to watch "Jinger in the City" (after she's had a decent education beyond being the Lunch Lady) far more than what we appear to be getting with "Hicks Can't Adjust to the Big City or Evil Liberals" (while raising a passel of kids they can't afford). I'd love to watch the inevitable "Anna Goes Jobhunting" episode. At least they could dump the MKids on like-minded families who have the resources to keep Mommy barefoot and pregnant.

"Jinger in the City" or "No Sex in the City" either would be appropriate and both would be hit reality shows.

This accountability buddy system, I thought, we were exagerating. Until Jill does her 5 year long midwifery training, and Jana has to spend 5 years of her life tagging along.

On a different note, rewind the gender announcement and watch Josiah. He's video taping with a phone I think, but he looks so disinterested and bored. Remember the turkey hunter? And one of the girls said "he has a very outgoing, loud personality just like Josiah". We NEVER see that from Josiah. Use to see that frok Joy but now everything "embarasses" her because Michelle says that's the way young girls should act.

I am of the opinion now that it isn't just about protecting their children when the Duggar's send along a chaperone,it's about control. I think this tight rein is emotional abuse.
As someone who was molested as a child,I am concerned about this family's lack of interaction with the outside world accompanied with the continual sexual innuendo. I get chills.

I have to mute Anna. I hate how she looks at her fool of a husband as if he is the most amazing thing she has ever beholden. I can't stand how every other sentence she goes into wide eyed innocent wonder, and then she says "aand". or "and." I need to start a drinking game for how much the word "and" comes out of her mouth. She is a fool.

I agree that the buddy system is not only about the blessings' safety, it is a control issue. The Duggar family is striving for modesty in dress, actions, speech etc. but the constant referrals to 'the physical side of marriage' is over the top. I was raised in a very religious home, but my parents' sex lives were definitely not discussed with the children. My mother's cycles were definitely not posted on the fridge or bulletin board. JMHO.

I would like to take time this Memorial Day weekend to thank and honor our men and women in the Armed Forces for their service and sacrifices to our country. I know the Duggars spend a lot of time talking about themselves, but it sure would be nice if they would acknowledge our military on their blog. And since the Duggars seem to have so much time on their hands and love to be filmed volunteering, how about if they all volunteer for a veteran's group. That would really be giving back.

Yes,thank a vet today! You may even have some in your family that served,or your neighbors, and you don't even realize it.Even if they don't talk about their service much,I'm sure they'd be just as happy to be thanked.And/or bake them something homemade and take it to them. :) I hope the Duggars think to do this.

They spent Memorial Day BACK at Silver Dollar City. How patriotic of them. *eyeyroll*

There's enough of them; they could have planted the flags by the graves of local veterans in no time flat.

Or not.

I asked that maybe the Duggars could acknowledge our military on their blog on Memorial Day. I looked Memorial Day, and it said something to the effect (I can't remember exactly), "Happy Memorial Day to all our fans in the United States. Hope you all have a good day of family, friends and barbeque." Gee, today on the blog it has mysteriously disappeared. There's wishing Mary Duggar a happy birthday on the 26th, and something today about Josh and Anna's baby being due in 10 days.

Did anyone else catch that besides me?

Are we really getting the woe picture of the Duggars? I was reading older comments from another forum from someone who claims they are kin to them. They claim the kids hang around normal and the boys were at a birthday when they visited. Some of the kids were headed to Indianapolis and others had returned from D.C.

I wonder if this person knows the Duggars are affiliated with ATI, BTW its headquarters are in Indiana. I take with a grain of salt those who claim they know the Duggars or are kin to them. No one says the Duggar kids stay home 24/7. They still only have choices in the bounds of their beliefs.
If the Duggar kids aren't so sheltered, why not show it?

I found this video interesting, because it confirms that once the children become adults, Jim Bob and Michelle let them choose who they interact with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wdhwXEGlA8

Elspeth said...

Not exactly choosing who they interact with. They get to see "patients" who chose to see a Christian midwife under that midwife's direction and only with two of the daughters present so they can be accountable for each other. That isn't the same thing as deciding that they want to actually be friends with someone.

I can't imagine SDC being any fun for Anna, being due soon. She can't ride any of the rides, all she can do is walk around and watch everyone else. And I'm not just talking about this trip;Josh had on his instagram that they went shortly before this, too.Anna always looks so huge and unconfortable late in her pregnancies, why don't they just give her a break? JMO.

Upset that Erin Bates' graduation is delayed until fall semester. I wanted a summer wedding. Rats.

Out of curiosity, I looked up Bates spawn birthdays (TLC still has them listed on their site) and compared to the Duggars, some are just a week or so apart: Jill Duggar and Erin Bates, Erin is (sorry, don't have the exacts up anymore) about 2 weeks older than Jill. Jana/JD line up closely with Michaela, again within a couple of weeks. I also noted that Jessa and Lawson (a lot of the early Bates boys go by middle nemes) are very close in age.

I didn't go all the way down the line, but Kelly was pretty consistent at pushing a blessing out every 13 months or so for years on end. Unlike Michelle, all of hers are singletons, and with the spacing, no miscarriages until, like Michelle, the burden of bearing babies over 40 struck.

Michelle is pregnant again!

God help them deliver this child safely so MAYBE it can all stop for them.
