Tuesday, October 8, 9:00 PM, Anniversaries to Remember!

Jim Bob & Michelle are celebrating their 29th anniversary Duggar style, while Josh & Anna take a more metropolitan approach for their 5th. Both husbands work hard to pull off big surprises for their wives and learn how both couples first met!

Of course, Michelle and Jim Bob will be highlighted. More of his juvenile ramblings about trying to have a baby. We will probably hear about how much of a sl*# Michelle was because she had the nerve to have a boyfriend before meeting Jimbob. This will also be the time one of the girls will be on deck to look after Anna's children. None of the sisters will be able to dine out. What a shame. What a boring life they lead.

I think we have already seen all of this. Booooorrrrring! It's like those old first grade readers:
See JimBob and Michelle kiss. See Josh and Anna kiss. See how sad the older girls are? Run, girls, run! Run away from Daddy. Run away from Mommy. See mommy and daddy kiss again. Hear daddy tell you that you cannot kiss a boy. Hear mommy talk in her baby voice. Run, girls, run! Run far far away!

The sister-mommies can't run until they have decorated their parents' sacred baby-making room. JMHO

We've already heard their love stories. So many times I feel like I was there when JB showed up at the hot cheerleader's house for a "visitation." Or I could be Anna, hanging out at the concession stand at ATI camp with sister Priscilla when hit on by a pushy pseudo-celebrity (they'd put out a few specials at that point).

Ugh.

Same ole same ole! I agree with Patrice and Londonbridges. Run girls run far far away. On the decorating the sacred baby making room, its just down right creepy...besides we have seen this already. Oh but this is Duggar Land and they always show the same ole same ole. I'm tuning out.

I bet JimBob takes Michelle to buy her a bicycle, and then to the pizza parlor, with a little rock climbing thrown in for good measure. And, Cousin Amy will have to go buy a cake. Isn't that how all Duggar special occasions work?

Rudy Tecat said...

And, Josh will take Anna to some obscure ethnic restaurant where they will roll their eyes at the food and the dancing staff. That's what DC is all about, right?

I saw a clip of Josh taking pics of the kids, presumably to do something for a gift for Anna. I have to say that it looked very sweet. Josh also looks like he has lost more weight and actually is looking good. His face is also maturing so he doesn't look like a young twenty-something with bad skin. I think being away from JB has done a lot in a short amount of time. I will not be interested whatsoever in what JB & Michelle will do for their anniversary...just hoping we don't have to watch the kids decorate the bedroom...

Amen! How about something new instead of the same ole, same ole?!?!!

Anna strayed from the Gothard uniform and wore a decent dress and shoes and she has never looked better. I an so happy for them and am really hoping they find their own way as a family. Please Jessa buy a beautiful wedding gown not the cheap homemade. Michelle and Jim Bob stuck with the matching rags and button up blouse and skirts. Jimbob you should be ashamed to haggle a price when people are trying to work a real job. So their first date was the formal with flowers? Michelle looked liks she woukd rather be abywhere else. Michelle, where are the photos of your daughters going to homecoming and prom? Why don't you care that they are missing out on those rites of passage? (edited)

Has anyone else noticed the big frown lines that Michelle has developed between her eyebrows? Maybe it has something to do with enduring 29 years of Jim Bob's "great ideas". When the played the Anniversary game and he was asked what she was afraid of, his immediate response was "She's afraid of heights". So why would he think it was a good idea to take her up in a hot air balloon??? You could tell she was apprehensive when they pulled up in the car and she saw the balloon. Just imagine the internal monologue that was playing inside her head--"He planned this for me...what was he thinking?? I'm terrified! The cameras are rolling so I have to put on a brave face and act thrilled. I think I might throw up!!" After 29 years of this, no wonder she has frown lines. All that unexpressed stuff is finding its way out.

I too thought Anna looked great. Amazing what a new stylish dress and shoes can accomplish. Josh looks like he has continued to lose weight and he looks healthier. I hope they mature and evolve in their own ways, with no JimBob and Michelle to interfere. Go Josh and Anna. You can still practice your beliefs and faith even though you make some changes in appearance, clothing, etc. JMHO.

Gotta love the editing monkeys. They didn't catch that Jana and Joy drove off in a giant SUV, but arrived at Josh and Anna's in a minivan (Jana was shown getting out of the driver's seat). Why couldn't Josh pick them up at the airport? He WAS home, after all. No need to pack up all the "kiddos" or, apparently, rent yet ANOTHER car. He already has 50 in his driveway. Why couldn't they borrow one of those to drive around DC in?

Product placement abounds. This was an anniversary year full of...freebies, thanks to TLC. Every place got a plug, including the swanky DC restaurant, which has desserts starting at $35. Sure, Josh can afford that now, but I seriously doubt he paid a dime. I also want to know where those presents came from. All I can figure is that he stashed them in the car before they left and went out to the car to get them at some point. But Anna's fakery of surprise when Josh revealed the first bag was too much; she'd had to have seen the bags come in before that.

For people so modest, there was a lot of innuendo, down to that "glasswork" of Michelle's, to "bible study," to blatant questions about being "in the mood." TMI Duggars...

I agree that Anna looked great. I'm so happy that Josh decided on a very nice restaurant and not someplace cheap. Check out the restaurant menu online. I think their steaks were $47 each! Hopefully, he didn't haggle over the bill later like his father did with the poor desk clerk at the motel.

Why would Jim Bob even think about taking Michelle up in a hot air balloon knowing she had a fear of heights? She had to play the dutiful wife and there was no way she could refuse to do it. The comment they made about the kids serving them dinner was just ridiculous. Their kids serve them everyday by cleaning, cooking and taking care of their siblings. It would be nice if the older girls could have a day to themselves doing something they would enjoy. Even of their birthdays they are taken to places that are geared towards the younger children. Imagine celebrating your 16th birthday and your parents take you to Chucky Cheese with all of your younger siblings. And having to watch all your siblings because your parents are too busy kissing each other every five seconds.

The balloon ride reminds me of when Josh taunted Anna to go on the ferris wheel and thought it was oh so amusing. Again, IMO Josh breaking free of JB has done wonders in just the small amount of time he's been away. Seeing Josh now, I can't imagine him even thinking about doing that to Anna if they were in that same situation again. Michelle has always said how funny JB is, but really, all I have ever seen is that he has a very selfish & rude sense of humor. I too thought it completely inappropriate to haggle about the hotel room (esp. since TLC was prob. paying in the first place) but even if not, everyone knows they have mega money bags and it was totally rude to even joke about it as part of the "storyline".

You never see the Duggar Men buying their wives some nice jewelry. Sure the pictures of the kids were nice for Anna BUT not very romantic. No Flowers, No Candy either unless Josh was going to give Anna her candy later.
Jimbob and Michelle. The more I look at his face I want to throw up. He just doesn't look like he has that good of hygiene but maybe its me just disgusted by his overall appearance and his sexual comments he has made on tape during shows. If I was Michelle I wouldn't have wanted the whole brood showing up at that romantic, Beans and Cornbread Anniversary Dinner JB surprised Michelle with. If I was afraid of heights and my hubby hooked me up with a balloon ride I would sock him in the family jewels and let him go up in the balloon by himself. Michelle had to be terrified but had to keep on her smiley face for the cameras. Off camera I would have given him hell if I was her. Jimbob buy your wife a nice piece of jewelry for special occasions and take her out to an expensive dinner then to a 5 star hotel instead of a flophouse for a little hot tub action.

Are you iidding? He haggled over a $69 cheap hotel. Now that's romantic

I'm sorry but that motel room was gross and so outdated. If my husband took me to a motel like that, I would drive home and he would be sleeping alone!

I agree that Anna looked very nice at the dinner with a pretty dress and heels.

For having "Christian values," I find JB one step above veiled porn. Is he a teenager? And now the public proclamation that they are "trying" for #20? YUCK! Are they so desperate for media attention? Maybe Johanna is ready to be a big buddy?

I thought the dinner and pictures of the kids was very nice. Plus Anna got some time to go out without the kids, which must have also been a nice break for her. I actually found Josh and Anna to be entertaining during the anniversary game, especially when his bad habit was talking too loud and he thought it was sweet tea. Then in response he said "sweet tea" loudly... I actually smiled at that one.
I agree with others who have posted that this move to DC seems to be great for them as a family. Anna even commented on how the family is closer since moving in part because their schedule isn't so filled with stuff to do w/ the Duggar clan.

DId I seriously just hear how Jim Bob lets Michelle know he's "in the mood"??? Gross.

Good Greif Jim Boob take your wife to a 5 star hotal not a 1 star. How about a nice dinner not served by your kids ? Buy her a new dress and some jewelry. Stop with the matching "rags". If your wife is afraid of heights why would you take her on a hot air balloon ? Are you truly that much of a buffoon ? Be a father to your older daughters instead of them being servant's to your other children. At some point Michelle is going to snap.

Glad to see Josh & Anna starting to make somewhat of abreak from the JimBoob & Michelle circus. Perhaps they can inspire the sister moms to break free.

Sharla, forgive me..but is that a good rating? I really can't tell. Thanks!

mythoughtis said...

It's been a while since Josh was the brotherDad to all of his siblings. I think that stopped when the girls got old enough to be sisterMoms.
I think the move to Washington and the resulting alone time with Anna and the kids has made Josh remember how much work children are when there's just the two adults. He already seems much more helpful to Anna and much more cognizant of the fact that Anna needs break time. I think there is hope for Josh and Anna.... if Anna would get off this obsession with being pregnant.

Rudy Tecat said...

What happened to JB's eyebrows?

hello said...

The only way the girls will break free from JimBoob and Mullet is when they get married. But then they will be under the control of their authority figure husband.

Sharla said...

In answer to the question, the rating is not really good, but it's high enough to keep them on the air as long as their demands to production for salary and perks are reasonable. Over 2 million viewers is good for TLC and over 3 million is excellent.

lukebandit said...

Since they made the announcement that they are going for no. 20, RIGHT before the Adoption event they are attending was UGH!

I wonder if they are going to MENTION they are going for no. 20 to the people in the audience.

If I was there and did IVF for years and no baby, I would get up and walk up front and scream at them that they are Crazy and Fake.

And walk out.

I have to admit I had a good laugh at Michelle's glass blowing results. I wonder what she thought it looked like? With some of those questions during the Anniversary Game, maybe the Duggar's show should switch time slots with "The Little Couple". Why would TLC think we would want to know this information?
Yes, Anna did look very nice and I am glad Josh has more class than his father and took Anna to a nice restaurant. (even though he isn't educated enough to understand the menu)
Is Jim Bob so cheap that he can't do better than beans and cornbread at a run down mill with his kids as the cooks and servers? Along with other posters, JB haggling for the price of the already cheap motel disgusted me, but then again, so did the sleazy motel itself. JB would die of a heart attack if he tried to book a reservation at The Plaza Hotel in NYC.
I was also very annoyed at how Josh left Marcus sleeping alone on the couch. Marcus could wake up or roll over at any minute and tumble off the couch. Josh's parenting skills are seriously lacking yet Anna mentioned about adding to the family.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the haggling at the motel and the balloon ride are written in for drama. Why is it always the woman who gets put in these positions?

I also think it's creepy for the kids to decorate their parents bed room. Most kids don't even want to think about their parents having a sex life! Possibly another gotta have something to film thing?

I don't watch the show, but I do enjoy reading all the smart, funny, and insightful comments posted here on this blog.

When I heard that Michelle is afraid of heights and JimBob presented her with a Hot Air balloon ride for their anniversary, I actually did NOT feel bad for her. Personally I am also afraid of heights and would be terrified if I was made to ride in such a balloon. However, I think this is bad Kharma coming back to Michelle...Her poor daughters are made to perform and act as if they enjoy taking care of house and siblings in front of the camera ALL the time. Michelle, now how does it feel to have to do something that is not your choice, without the option of saying no and refusing? Her and JimBob are forcing a lifestyle onto their children where they have no say - why should Michelle have special privileges?
I dont' mean to sound mean and heartless, but I thought it was fair for Michelle to taste some of her own bad medicine...JMO

Re: "The comment they made about the kids serving them dinner was just ridiculous."

That comment made me mad, too. They've served their kids, so now it's payback time? Who does 99% of your laundry, JimBob? Oh, yes, it's your own mother. I have no idea what Mary's true motivations for living with them are, but she is SERVING her own son and his family big time. And, how is JimBob serving his mother? Publicly bashing her deceased husband/his dad? Giving her the honor of washing not only his clothes, but the clothes of all the children he brought into this world? Hypocrite!!!

Anna's parent seem to be very happy that Josh and Anna are away from the Duggar Craziness. Whoever said JB and Michelle are unhappy with Joshies move to DC they are correct. Anna has sisters. Why didn't anyone of them fly to DC to watch the kids. The Duggar Parents are still trying to control Josh and Anna from afar. Shall we start taking bets on when the DC Duggers will return back to Arkansas because Joshie misses home. From what I hear he has been flying back and forth on the weekends because he is homesick. I wonder where Anna is when he goes on his Arkansas Jaunts.

Did anyone else find it funny that Michelle's initials are MAD as she says that she suffers from angry problems. Links in well. Also Marcus' initials are MAD.

Anna's sisters all have kids of their own, that is probably why they didn't help her.Her mom did come to help after the move, though.

Finally finished watching the episode. TMI overload.

I thought it was sweet that Josh knew exactly what Anna would want. Those pictures were priceless. On the other hand, it was really inconsiderate to plan a hot air balloon ride knowing Michelle was afraid of heights--although she did seem to have a good time.

Anna did look very nice in her new (modern!) dress.

Willow said...

I am NOT taking up for Jim Bob as, of course, he is a selfish and thoughtless husband. However - if Michelle is so afraid of heights, why did she sky dive with one of the girls on her birthday? I think it was Jessa on her 18th, wasn't it? Hmmm. "They" always think we won't remember things.

Nana Sew Dear said...

It seems that Jim-Bob no longer views his wife as a woman. She is just a broken baby machine and a mommy to all, including Jim-Bob. If he has to be inconvenienced by her birthday, by golly he's going to do something he wants to do. Cheap skate.

Leigh Ann said...

Didn't Michelle do a jump out of an airplane? I know some of the girls did and I thought Michelle did, too.

ES lady said...

Yes, she did jump out of an airplane. So the whole fear of heights was just some baloney to try and add excitement to the show.

Dar said...

Yes, this modest woman, who won't show her knees, jumped out of a plane strapped to a man who is not her husband. They have rules for the girls, but when Michelle wants the camera, she does what she wants. I don't care how much in "love" they are, I don't know anyone who wouldn't be annoyed that he has to have a kiss every five minutes. It is just grandstanding. Their young girls should be out enjoying themselves and they should be home looking after the younger "blessings". Michelle gave more attention and emotion to her miscarriage than to her "living" child

Londonbridges said...

I agree that Michelle is a mommy to JimBob. However, she definitely is not acting as a mommy to the younger blessings. The sister-mommies have that privilege. JMHO

Leigh Ann said...

So I wasn't losing my mind. I was jus thinking it was weird to be afraid of a hot air balloon but not jumping out of a plane. But there's really no rationalization for most fears. I'm not afraid of heights at all -- I crawl around the roof and look out of airplane windows and from the observation decks or top floors of skyscrapers, but Ferris wheels scare me because they rock back and forth. So maybe Michelle has something weird like that. If she was afraid of it, Jim Bob shouldn't have set it up for her and then made her do it. And for that matter, Anna shouldn't have been forced to have a water delivery when she clearly was terrified of it. No one seems to care what these women's comfort levels are.

Cassia said...

Anna seemed genuinely surprised that Jana was able to eat supper (standing in the kitchen) while holding a baby at the same time. Jana has had lots of stay-at-home mom experience without the benefit of having a husband of her own to care for.

JB & Michelle's hotel room was gross and cheap but he still haggled for the price. Michelle must have been so embarrassed by him. This guy is totally obsessed with sex but also obsessed with keeping his daughters away from potential husbands. Matching outfits on dating couples/newlyweds is sort of cute, not for folks that have been married 29 years. Michelle's hair looked pretty in her younger days but the over-processed, crispy curly mullet look really bad.

Was I the only one entertained by Josh's comment in the restaurant about the menu being verbose? Wow, does he not know that FORMAL establishments have longer menus. LOL

Anna looked really nice Went she and Josh went out for their anniversary dinner. I think they are really happier in Washington. I hope, for Anna's sanity, it is a long term move. Though I do hope she was semi- joking about having baby fever so soon. I say semi because I know that babies are always on these people's minds.

Like nails on a chalkboard - - - when I think of JimBob saying,"Hey! Hey! Hey!" As a means of communicating to Michelle that he is 'in the mood' it makes me throw-up in my mouth a little.

It's been a few days since I watched, so I hope I'm remembering correctly, but did Michelle not gush at the anniversary dinner about having all of her kids there? Um, three of them were in DC!
