The family is gearing up for their big derby race! But first, Jessa & Ben practice their parenting skills and take the littlest Duggars out for a day of fun. When race day arrives, which team will finish first and be crowned the Duggar Derby champion?

I just saw ads for next weeks shows. Apparently there will be two different episodes. One will be about the 30th Anniversary (I expected that)The 2nd one will be Jessa & Ben take younger Duggars out to practice their: PARENTING SKILLS! I kid you not. It was Jessa & Ben, not Jill & Derick! Way too much about future grandchildren, I won't say Duggars, because we all know they won't be Duggar, they will be Seewalds & Dillards. I don't know how long this show can continue with the constant theme being, just adding more to the family. I don't know about Ben, but it seems to me that Jessa already knows how to handle kids. She has had plenty of practice along with all the other girls in the family, except maybe Josie, as far as I know she doesn't have a buddy & Michelle seems to have dropped the talk about adoption, so I guess she's safe as the baby in the family. Sort of amazing how quickly they dropped the adoption talk, although that was all Michelle. I don't think for one minute JB was interested in adopting.

Anonymous said...

What? This is what's coming up next week? Nonsense and fluff, unnecessary subject matter? I'm not interested in any of those things as it doesn't add up to anything. Derby race? Where did this come from?
Michelle never had any real intentions of adopting ANY child; as it goes against their belief system being that children are tied to the sins of their parents/ancestors...they need to know "who they come from" and don't want to take on any sin in the house..It's so obvious they were full of it.
I also doubt that ANY of the kids will adopt as they adhere to the same belief system. I don't know how Derick's mother passed through as she was adopted. You would think that would have put those people in their place, but as usual they make up their own rules as they go.

Anonymous said...

I'll bet the team that JB is on will be the winning team. He just can't let anyone else win.

This derby consists of TLC needing an approved topic- as they are so few and far between. I am sure they will milk the wedding prep for another 5 weeks so they needed something. I am sorry but really, do those older boys really want to do this kind of stuff? And what is with all of this "do you have a special someone" talk?

Anonymous said...

Michelle was never interested either, since the majority of opportunities would be for kids over 6 months old. Also, r kids of color would not be an option, I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

Yawnfest! I think I'm going to quit watching until the wedding actually airs. & then skip the Benessa nonsense & start watching again when Jills pregnancy airs.

Anonymous said...

I would hope that no adoption agency would even CONSIDER letting them adopt.

CannedSoup said...

The Derby race is silly unless they were were really competing in the real world of soapbox derby. *yawn*

As for Jessa and Ben practicing being parents---what if they do a bad job---are they going to delay their marriage? We know the delay won't happen, ergo, this storyline is also silly.

Patrice said...

Why would anyone be interested in the anniversary episode? Michelle will just squeak in her little baby voice about how she and Jim Bob went way too far when they were dating...horrors! Their hands and lips actually touched! And Boob will nod his AquaNet-soaked head in agreement and mention all the baggage Michelle brought to the marriage. Then they will recap the whole story of the pill and the miscarriage and why they had 19 children and how they will have more if God wants them to...blah, blah, blah, we have been hearing this forever and TLC thinks we need to hear it all again. The entire bore-fest will be punctuated by thirty kisses between each sentence to represent the thirty years of marriage and then we will hear JimBob's sexual innuendos ("Yah, I think we will spend our anniversary trying to make number 20!")as the episode ends with them going into their bedroom while the slaves spend yet another night of putting the "little ones" to bed. Kill this show already, TLC!

Anonymous said...

Does Jim Bob realize that some os his sons are men or young men and don't need to do cub scout activities that 8 year old boys do?
Just too much for me as they are way too far behind real time here.
I never believed Michelle's adoption nonsense, I think that was just to appease public comments..they don't believe in adoption and they should just be honest and admit it. Their belief syste does NOT include it.

Jeannine Guidry said...

I see that Derek and Jessa just posted pictures on Instragram of a derby with the hashtag #firstdemolitionderby. So I am confused about next weeks episode, unless he started posting stuff that was old to confuse us.

Patsy said...

Jim Bob "helping" one of the teams put their derby car together caused them to put it together wrong (after I believe 3 hrs of work). And of course, TLC when they came up with the idea & ordered the three cars forgot to order the wheels. Yawn.

Anonymous said...

They must have felt silly when they realized the go carts they ordered from the Internet didn't come with wheels. Guess they didn't read the fine print, now they have to go and buy some wheels, the cost is gonna be adding up on those go carts!

Anonymous said...

RE: Anonymous 10/05 @ 7:28pm
I agree they must have felt ridiculous when those go carts arrived without the wheels. However, nobody can believe that the Duggars will be paying for the wheels, not when TLC is filming the episode. I'll bet TLC paid for everything that had to do with that episode, they usually do.I think the go cart episode was just for something to do with the boys while the wedding preparations were taking place. Strange isn't it that they find all these thing to do like laying carpet & making go carts, when they should be doing school work. I guess the women in the family are busy with the wedding preparations & JB certainly isn't going to be doing the school work with the kids. Occasionally we would see him, with the older ones, but only when they were doing their work on the computer.I know some might say, well it's summer, time off from school work, but the Duggars have always said they do their school work all year long. They don't have a summer vacation like the public schoosl.

I still feel so badly for his son, who he wouldn't shake hands with ON CAMERA. What parent does that? That kid, I forgot which one, should pack up and move into JD's house and get a life of his own. Maybe more would follow. Jim Bob is such a jerk, who never left jr. high school himself. I bet he was the puny one in PE,, wasn't good at athletics, etc., and is still trying to live that down. Grow up, for no one cares any more what happened in 1982.

Rudy Tecat said...

I hope the Duggars don't compete in a derby race against other children in the area. Some of them might have purple hair and someone will end up pregnant.

Anonymous said...

Haha wouldn't that be a shame!! Until this show came along, I never heard of families whose kids don't have friends nearby that they hang out with on a regular basis. My sister & I were friends with a girl who came from a family that homeschooled & were ultra religious. I'm sure to them, we seemed like a bunch of heathens, as we didn't attend church & we went to school dances, but they never treated us that way. It just blows my mind. It seems like theonly friends they get together with are the Bates.

Anonymous said...

I won't be watching. That Derby episode was really boring.

Boo's Mom said...

I fail to see why TLC just didn't do a wedding special for Jill and Derick, instead of dragging out the wedding. By the time we see Jessa and Ben's, Jessa may have an infant LOL I also wonder how much longer the shower will last. How many more trips and "baby gender" reveals can keep the viewers? LOL

Katie's Mom said...

Re: RudyTecat's comments about the Duggar kids competition with the go carts. We have never seen them have any interaction with any kids outside their family, except for the like minded Bates. So don't look for any competition with anyone beside the boys in the Duggar family. Also, I too was appalled that JB wouldn't shake hands with Jed because he wasn't on the team that finished first when assembling the go carts. Is JB so dumb that he's never heard the tried true saying: "It matters not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game!"

Soap Box Derbies are for girls and boys about age 12 and under. Or maybe 10 and under. They build their racer and race it.

Jim Boob took all the fun of it out by using the older ones to build them. The older ones should be listening to music, socializing with kids their own age and reading. They should not be acting like little kids.

Anonymous said...

RE: Anonymous 10/07 @5:49am You are absolutely correct about the Soap Box derbies being for girls & boys age 12 or 10 & under. They usually were a yearly project for yes, of all things :CUB SCOUTS! Can you imagine the Duggar kids belonging to Boy Scouts or Girls Scouts. That's their problem..no socialization with other kids their age. The only ones they have to socialize with are their own brothers & sisters, & of course the biggest kid of all, & the one that always wants to win:Jim Bob!

Anonymous said...

Seriously. Who cares about this contrived nonsense? I stopped watching when we could no longer get it on you tube.
Must admit, though, the occasional snark is fun.

Anonymous said...

i would hope they would not adpot no agency would give them a child. like the other person said. I am still wondering were Josaih is. they are sticking to their story he is at that alert acaamdey. but that is only 9 weeks. I think there is family troubles somewhere?

Bubbles said...

I think there's going to continue to be an audience for this family for a long time. People like pregnancy and babies on TV. Look how many shows had a pregnancy or adoption to add a new character in their later years (Growing Pains, Family Ties, and Full House are three off the top of my head).

I think it's a real possibility that we won't see Jessa pregnant right away. I strongly suspect she has no desire to become a mother right away. I feel like she's attached to Ben because 1) Jim Bob approved him to court her 2) she wants to have sex and 3) she wants out of that house and away from the crushing responsibilities that come with being one of the older kids in that house. Think of how appealing it must be to think of only having to care for yourself and another adult and no longer having to share everything all the time!

Do you think it's possible Jessa and Ben will move in with Jill and Derrick? I can totally see Jim Bob trying to make that happen.

Anonymous said...

Like Bubbles said this show could go on for a long time. Just look at the number of people who comment positively on their Facebook pages. This is a dream family for them. Some have even gone so as to say that they would love to live with them. Their followers clearly have noticed the posts about Bill Gothard and Quiver Full but refuse to investigate. You would think that one of those girls would want to live a simpler lifestyle but I bet they don't for a couple of reasons one being that this way they are currenly living is really the cool factor for them and the other is that Jim Boob is making it impossible for them to function in the outside world either by supplying them with houses or picking men that can't earn a living, he's not stupid I'll give hime that.

Did anyone else see how MAD Michelle was at Josie for wanting to spend time with her? She was almost yelling at her!

Also it's just so messed up, and I can't get over how these kids are just rushing to marriage so they can touch and have alone time, and be horny normal people. So unhealthy

Leecy said...

When Ben/Jessa to the talking head part she is talking about temptation of being close and says "Yeah, Lets get married faster"
She sums up why these people get married.....just to have sex.

Wow, what a good reason to get married. And these people think nothing is wrong with that. OMGGGGG

no name said...

I want to know why jessa and Ben needed a chaperone while out at a kids place with what six or so little kids. What are they really going to do?

Anonymous said...

I thought Michelle handled Josie very well. I didn't think she was yelling at all.

Ben looks like he's getting chunky. What do those boys eat? He and Jessa just, seem to me, too young and immature to embark on marriage. I don't see a deep love connection. Right now they are in lust. I hope they don't end up unhappy.

mel said...

I found it concerning that Ben and Jessa needed to practice their parenting skills but have no need to practice interacting with each other alone before they are married. A future husband or wife is obviously going to be on their best behavior when parents or siblings are around, but things could be very different when the two are finally alone.

hello said...

I thought the same thing no name. What did they think would happen at a place for kids? Maybe they thought they would lose control under the table while the kids were eating pizza.

Anonymous said...

Josie was probably upset Michelle "scheduled" time with another child one-on-one because Josie is used to being the precious miracle child and the only one Michelle ever paid attention to past 6 months of age. But notice how Hannie's activity is actually an opportunity for Michelle to have attention to herself--how she's afraid of horses, now confronting those "fears" etc. Michelle is always usurping attention and activities from her kids (ie Jessa's 18th bday skydiving trip).

Anonymous said...

After watching the Josie/Michelle segment last night it is my conclusion that Miracle Child is a brat courtesy of Michelle. That lady has ignored her other children after weaning them, but has coddled Josie and bonded only with her. That kid expects to monopolize Michelle's attention as a result because it's just what she's used to. I blame Michelle. Talk about balance? They are full of it. Nothing this family does includes balance of anything ....they are extreme in all they do and don't do.

Josiah finished ALERT a long time ago. He has been seen in DC at the conference and other places with the family.

Judy said...

I think it's disturbing to see Michelle teach Josie to swallow negative feelings -- she's not even allowed to express them. She is supposed to pretend she's happy for someone without acknowledging she is sad. No wonder these kids walk around with smiles plastered on their faces.

Judy said...

This episode was truly boring.

Judy said...

Jessa is not going to wait to have kids. I'm always surprised when someone says well maybe now Anna or Jill or Jessa will change...they are not going to change. They are truly convinced that having 19 children is healthy.

no name said...

I agree with Mel. These guys are putting on their best face to impress jb. In a religion where they are supposed to be happy all of the time no one, not even family, really knows what goes on in their heads.

Anonymous said...

It would have been much more interesting if they had entered a real race with real people.

Rudy Tecat said...

Uh...Ben Seewald and Jessa needed a chaperone when they were out with the little kids, A SOUND MAN, A CAMERMA MAN OR TWO, AND A FIELD PRODUCER?

Patsy said...

Oh but we aren't supposed to talk about "behind the scene" staff don'tchaknow! :) After all, they are just going about living their real life! Right!

Apparently there are now some of the girls with pierced ears. I noticed that when they had on the helmets in the soap box cars. I thought last week in the talking head that Michelle had pierced her ears and I think she has from seeing her (in the same shirt from last week's talking head) last night. Wonder when pierced ears became acceptable to them?

Ridiculous how J'chelle had to put that blue bow on top of Johanna's helmet during the horse back riding session. Why do the little girls always have such ridiculous hair accessories...big bows, flowes, wigs...even when Josie was in NICU she had ugly hair bows on her head.

This episode was idiotic. A few observations: 1. During bible study in the boys room, the boys have had upgrades to their beds. Long gone are the second hand store bunk beds. They now have beautiful custom bunk beds. Yep, living frugally Duggars.
2. Someone already mentioned that the Horse back riding trip was more about J'chelle than about one on one time with her daughter. She didn't mention once anything about how special that daughter is and what she loves her for. It was about J'chelle's fear of horses. Sick of this woman. 3. That ridiculous derby that noone but family went to must have cost a fortune. They even had flags lol!

This show is asinine. I beg TLC to show who the Duggars really are: their cult, the money that they have, the fact that they no longer buy used....

Are the younger kids getting any home schooling?

Anonymous said...

I think that precious baby Josie does not like it when the planets don't revolve around her. She is used to having EVERYONE'S attention and is pouty princess when she doesn't receive it.

TaterTot said...

It looks to me like JB and Michelle are not only sending Ben and Jessa for life-with-kids training as well as babysitter training, but you know the newlyweds' homes -- both couples -- will be filled with kids as the young couples 'pitch in' because the little ones miss their mothers--ah, buddies!

The Duggars aren't just gaining son-in-laws, they're gaining new babysitters!

Anonymous said...

I don't know how accepted pierced ears are in the Duggar household ruled by JB & Michelle, but MacKenzie had her ears pierced as a baby. Josh & Anna said something about it wouldn't hurt as much if done when she was just a baby. That might have been something accepted in the Keller home before Anna was completely brainwashed by the Duggars.

Anonymous said...

Re: Free Jana's comment. I have been wondering the same thing. Are they younger kids getting any schooling? Perhaps they feel they are educated enough. After all JB & Michelle have terrible grammar, but they don't seem very concerned about it. There are courses you can take at any age to improve any skills needed. My guess is they have been way too busy with wedding preparations to bother with the younger ones. I think that's why they are looking for things, like the go carts, carpeting, etc. to keep them busy & out of the way. If they don't have the time they should get someone to tudor them.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Wednesdays child ,I'm with you as far as how ridiculous that show now is. Yes TLC give us some real information on the Duggars. It's way overdue!

Anonymous said...

That whole thing about the kids washing their hands made me
Strongly dislike Jessa for being so arrogant. Ben was trying to be nice! She shot him down and then in the interview she brushed over their disagreement. She is pretty and she knows it but her arrigAnt and self-righteous attitude detracts from her. I hate Jill too but I think Jill is a sickup and a know it all. John David - he seems like the type to torture ppl he perceives weaker because he is such an awkward person

Anonymous said...

They act like 15 year olds with their first boyfriends because that's just what they are!

Anonymous said...

A few episodes ago, MIchelle in a TH segment said that Jessa is ready to be a wife. How can that be when domestic/wifely skill readiness is their main goal for their daughters and it has been established that Jessa can't cook? Michelle didn't go a good job with her after all to "ready her" for her life's calling, did she? How can she say that Jessa is ready to be a wife? There are, of course many, many more important factors here which tell us that these girls are NOT ready to be married to anyone, of course, the cooking is just a small example, but something that should be so important to them for readiness for marriage.

Anonymous said...

Maybe when a baby mackynzie got hers....lol
I was really surprised to see that

Anonymous said...

first Jessa is not ready to be a Mom I do not see her and been ready to have a lot of children right away. Ben is only 19 why would he even want to be a father. I just dont get it. were is his mom when this is all happening. what is her take on all of this. I would also like to hear what Derrick family think about him marrying into this family.

Anonymous said...

The only thing that makes Jessa ready to be a wife, in Michelle's eyes, is that she is fertile and ready for sex. That's all they care about in Duggarland. Never mind that she is way too young and naïve to even know herself and what she wants out of life (same goes for her arranged husband to be), she is uneducated with no means of support outside of Daddy (same for Bin), and she lacks all domestic skills to care for her own home (just packing up for a trip).

Anonymous said...

Since Michelle abandoned her "teacherhood" to Jessa, and now Jessa is leaving, who has been "educating" these kids? I'll tell you who, NO ONE. It looks very much like they are left to their own efforts between the "new pamphlets" they are hocking on the internet now, and the computers. Those kids sit by themselves amid chaos around them in that household, and they have to try to teach themselves. That seems to be about it. The younger those kids are, the more illiterate with will be in their adult life. They really need to get to a Christian school and soon! No reason why they shouldn't be attending. They are all toilet trained, (maybe not Josie for sure yet), so Michelle can drag her lazy butt out of bed first, get breakfast ready for them and JB can drive them to school. Maybe then, Michelle can actually make the beds, cook and clean while they are gone. She won't be missing "more blessings" when she actually has some work to do around there. It would benefit those children all the way around. The Washington County School System really needs to make an unannounced stop by that house and test all those school aged children and evaluate them for their grade level standing. I'd be curious to see how they do!

Anonymous said...

Yeah didn't she just barely learn to cook? Those 2 are so awkward together it makes me uncomfortable to watch. 2 14 year olds in love lol talking about marriage. In the case of Jill & Derick, at least Derick seems to have the maturity.

To anon 9:31, they supposedly do state testing at the end of every school year. They also have to get their GED when they graduate because a homeschool diploma means nothing.

Katie's Mom said...

Anonymous10/11 @4:49am Wow! Bravo for your comments. Right on target!Boy have you hit the nail on the head. I totally agree with you. Those kids desperately need schooling, but not from JB & Michelle or just computers. Michelle & JB's grammar is disgusting. They are both ignorant & should not be teaching any kids. I know many people think that because the Duggars have traveled the world the kids have been exposed to other people & cultures. They have not! They were never allowed to really mix with other people. They had guides that oversaw everything they did & every place they went. Don't forget the boys & JB getting right up beside the girls that started answering some very innocent questions by some men that were in the water in Israel. I though it was perfectly normal if you see a large group of people with a cameras crew to ask a couple of questions. Then JB comes over as fast as he could, even though some of the boys were right beside their sisters, & say's;"I'M THE DAD!"

Anonymous said...

Yes, I am sorry to say that the Duggar courting checklist of smoking, alcohol consumption, acceptance of massive amounts of children and mission work seem to be a "go" for marriage. It's fine to check up front what the other person's moral belief system is, and about bad habits. Once that's established then it's time to date and really get to know each other's personality, not just belief system and that takes TIME, especially when the two are inexperienced in relationships and don't really even know who they are from lack of opportunity. This family goes down that checklist and then it's off to the altar asap and find out who each other is AFTER marriage. Not a good practice IMO.
Also, Michelle would be ashamed of herself about how she has taken advantage and blatantly used her daughters to clean up after her baby messes. Those girls are immature, yet overworked with adult chores. It is so wrong of her, I'd like for her to address this specifically as to why she thinks it's ok to "pass off the babies" to the next one in line. No mother does those things in the real world.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Jessa and Ben seem very awkward with one another. I think Ben just wants to hop in the sack with her and Jessa just wants to get it over and done with. They are both very young and come across as very immature.

Derick seems like a nice guy though.

re: noname: I understand the end of year testing is voluntary and Michelle decides if they'll test of not. I would like for an inspector to drop in and administer a grade level standard test to each child without notice and see where they really are. They can also "study for the end of year test" and simply memorize those answers in advance. It doesn't mean they are on grade level, if I understand things correctly.
I still can't understand why those kids don't attend a Christian day school like Jim Bob did. Is that too liberal for them too? I can understand not wanting then to attend public school, as many mainstream people prefer to send their kids to church schools instead, but to not send them to ANY day school at all, is such a loss for these children. I believe it's a control issue and they wish to isolate their kids even from other Christian kids who aren't of their sect, which is unnatural. If the school was good enough for Jim Bob, who didn't turn out to be a heathen, why is it not good enough for his kids? They are cheap and lazy, that's why. When the subject of "school" has come up on the show, it is always public school which is addressed and how they aren't against it at all, blah, blah, which is a croc; as YES, they think it's "good enough" for other heathens, but not THEIR kids, but they never have addressed why they don't send their kids to a Christian school. I'd like to know that...

If Jessa is buring prepared heat and serve rolls, the girl can't cook to save her life, I thought the girls were ALL taught their jurisdictions well and only moved to other ones after they have perfected their present duties. What happened with Jessa and her relationship with the kitchen? I don't think she's ready for marriage for many reasons other than the kitchen...I hope Ben likes take-out as that's all he's getting...I guess Jessa wants to perfect her talents in the bedroom as they both look like Anna did...ready to burst at the seams with pent up sexual energy. She and Josh were painful to watch.

RE: Anonymous 10/12 @4:43am
Michelle wrote in her Parentable's column that the GED testing, is totally optional in their state. She said sometimes she will take a couple of the kids for testing for their GED, but not always. I was wondering if it's the boys that they feel need to have a GED? Guess Josh wouldn't have become; Executive Director of the FRC, if he hadn't gone on for his GED. I was thinking that since the girls are never expected to be out in the world, they probably don't need the GED. Michelle did not make it clear just what the criteria was for who she took to for the GED exam. She only said she didn't take all of them after they finished home schooling. I totally agree that those kids should be in a Christian school or some type of accredited school. Whatever they are doing now, just isn't working for them.

The home schooling group they are in teach them that they need to shelter their kids and such. This is why they follow such strang rules.

This show is just painful at this point. I don't know why I keep watching, because I am just so over it. Ben's dad saying women who have abortions are Nazis, Jana's misery, the ridiculous editing tricks, Jim Boob's uncomfortable control over everyone and everything. It just makes me furious and annoyed. Yet, I keep watching for some sick reason...

hello said...

Sadly the girls don't need a GED. They have been trained since birth that their sole purpose in life is to be a wife and mother. They are in no way encouraged to go to school and have a career. They just have to wait for daddy to find them a husband to pass his authority to. The boys don't have a need for a GED either. They wait for daddy to find them a business to work and wait until they find a fundie wife to exert control over.

Anonymous said...

Re: Katie's Mom: Yes, and there is another example of Michelle giving a half answer to an issue raised. She doesn't say what the criteria is for her deciding to take "some of the kids, some of the time" for GED testing, does she? She should have clarified WHY she took some and not others and what she plans to do in the future regarding her childrens' "education". They really know how to dance around a question.

Anonymous said...

Re: anonymous 10/9 @6:47pm
I think a lot of people were surprised when MacKenzie had her ears pierced. They never showed her getting them pierced. In one episode Josh & Anna just made the comment that is was less painful for her to have her ears pierced as a baby. Nothing was said by any of the other Duggars at the time. I thought it was something that perhaps they did with the girls in Anna's family, although I don't think Mrs.Keller has pierced ears.

Anonymous said...

Before God, we, as parents, have a responsibility to educate and prepare our children for LIFE in this world, which includes daughters. I cannot fathom, in this day and age, why a parent would NOT feel that at least a GED is important for ALL of their children. You never know what life will bring and that it may be useful in the future. That is setting up your daughters to be handicapped in the basics of life; it has NOTHING to do with your religious/cultural beliefs. It's just good common sense; something, I think, God wants us to use, too. After all, He gave us the sense in our heads to be exercised, used and developed.Once again, Michelle should be ashamed of herself.

I just watched this episode and the one thing that stuck out to me was the look on Jana's face when Jim Bob volunteered her to be Jessa and Ben's chaperone. You could tell she was not at all thrilled with that idea.
