Revised Chore Chart

New photos are up on the bottom of TLC's Duggar page including the supposedly latest chore chart.  Whether the revisions are what the Duggars normally do, reflect the time some of the older offspring are doing the College Plus thing, or was assisted by TLC in response to comments about the show, here it is.

I did not see anything new in that chart. It seems it covers their daily chores and school work.

I thought the Duggars NEVER referred to their children as "kids" - so maybe someone else (like a TLC production assistant?) created this chart prop for filming purposes?

It doesn't address who is doing the cooking. Only who cleans up afterward. I don't recall seeing who cleans up after breakfast, which implies that it is not an organized meal.

Also, I think they could have put the school work above the cleaning jurisdictions. They kind of come at you from nowhere after that list of cleaning jurisdictions.

Then again, I do a lot of writing and would be flunked if I turned that in as an example of "A Day in the Life."

It said who did the cooking under the meal where they listed the times. At least that's how I took it to be.

Thanks! I missed that (note to self: there's a reason the doctor prescribed glasses). :D

I'm curious about Jana because she was not listed as being involved in College Plus! either. I guess she and Jill still do the lion's share of mothering/babysitting/whatever you wish to call it while Jinger and Jessa are now cooking, cleaning, teaching and doing the laundry. That also explains why we don't see them holding the little ones very much these days, while pretty much every time they showed Jana (albeit it wasn't much) this past season, she usually had a kid on her hip, or was otherwise dealing with the little ones (blueberries come to mind).

LOL now that I actually looked at it by itself, it doesn't say CHORE list. This is their schedule... what I mean is this is what replaced Michelle's old poster board set up... You remember the one with the post it notes on it. It's a general outline that "goal" they are always working towards.

I think JILL typed this up though which would be why it says "kids"... Jill is the one listed as doing 'secretary' work.

I don't see John David. Is he exempt form chores? IMO younger adults are two old to be on chore chart. At least the adults and kids should be divided.

Well, Jan and John David are twins so if she's on the schedule with kitchen duty...

I had a similar thought and would add that perhaps the adult offspring should be exempt from chores around their parents' home BECAUSE they have actually BECOME adults and have set up their OWN homes, off their parents' property. Since the Duggars reportedly 'graduate' from homeschool high school around 16, WHAT is the hold up on the Duggar offspring from venturing out into the adult world on their own so many years post high school completion?

I'm not following the comment about Jana and John David being twins, and if Jana is on the chart for kitchen duty..........

Many, many people don't move out of their parents house just because they have graduated high school or college. In fact, it's well-known that many people (because of the economy) are moving back in with their parents in order to save money on rent and utilities.

I do believe a similar statement has been made by either the teens or by Jim Bob. I do recall reading or hearing somewhere that they don't necessarily push their children to move out, because this helps their children save money. Of course, it also means that they are able to gain valuable "assistance" from their older children, but it could be that the kids don't want to leave either.

If you google "stay at home daughter" you will see dozens of websites and blogs from families, and even the girls themselves, who have elected to stay at home until they get married and not work, because they have the sole intention of becoming a mother and housewife. They see it as a way of protecting their purity by staying in the nest until they day when they start a family of their own.

I'm not saying I agree with any of this, but this is not a Duggar-only thinking. It might be a Gothard-only thinking, or not. I haven't really been able to tell from the other blogs, other than almost all of these girls also live in homes that eschew birth control. Not using birth control is also something that I have seen written about it conservative Christian blogs, and most of them make no mention of Gothard.

I have never seen John-David or Josh when he lived there do any house related-chores. It seems after a certain age boys are exempt. And I wonder what Jim Bob and Michelle are doing during 'jurisdictions'.

But if Jana and the other sibs are on the chore cahrt all the Duggars living there should be on it. If you are part of the household you should pitch in regardless of age or gender.

Do the boys also do the snow removel and mowing for all the rentals? Or is that hired?.

I also think Johannah can do somthing, even its just just holding the door open for a sibling or bringing someone somthing simple, like a diaper.

Notice they don"t say ENGLISH class! But language arts! Interesting!

Cousin heard around town that John David is not leaving at home anymore! Now that his towing business has really taken off and he did make really good money with all The bad snow storms this year!

Tammy C said...

Now days schools do call it Language Arts until you hit high school then it is English with the numbers for each grade at I,II,III,and IV.

Did some one mean that John Davisd is no longer living at home!

hart&sole said...

I need to check on John David no longer living at home, but John David has a business to run while Jana is at home. The Quiverfull males must have a business and a home before they marry so they can support the many children they will likely sire.

Where was this? Could you put up a link--I tried to find it and failed.

Alice said...

heh heh. John David is obviously busy with his "real" job, and I don't know why they would need him around the house, as he's likely bringing in $.

We have a similar chart around here, and, if you really don't know what the parents are dong during jurisdictions, you must not have children. They're SUPERVISING. And it's exhausting. How else can the kids learn to do the job?

Does anyone know which of the older kids are buddies to each of the younger ones? I know Jill is Jennifer's buddy, but how about Jordyn? To me she has sort of a neglected look most of the time, not that it is an easy task keeping a 2 year old neat and clean.

One of the middle boys is, I think. I can't remember who, it was in one of the episodes where he was making Jordyn some oatmeal. Justin maybe?

hart&sole said...

I read on another blog that Jessa is Jordyn's buddy. Too bad they couldn't have cloned Jill since she has the nurturing/maternal instinct that seems to be lacking in Jessa and Jinger. Not that I condone sisters being made to raise siblings, but it sucks to be Jordyn.

msrylee said...

I agree that it sucks to be Jordyn. No matter how hard the older blessings attempt to nurture and raise her, she desperately needs her mother's love and attention. While Michelle has been gifted with all these blessings, she seems unable or unwilling to mother them past weaning or another pregnancy occurs. JMHO.

Alice said...

I suspect there's a whole lot of mothering going on by Michelle. :) Good kids don't just "happen."

msrylee said...

I base my comments on the content of the episodes as presented. There may well be a lot of mothering going on by Michelle, but it is seldom shown by TLC. If Michelle really 'mothers' her blessings, why don't we see it? Makes me wonder. JMHO.
