TLC is gearing up for the show.  They have a few videos up.

The one I've watched says at 45 Kelly is considered high risk.  Ya think?  Such edifying news they give us.  Video

What's with the Kelly "Jo", didn't they always just call her Kelly? In the 'Secret' clip, what is Michaella cooking?, it's the smallest pan of food that looks like it would barely feed a family of 4. Maybe it's a high-protein meal just for Kelly. BTW, so tired of seeing the same old scene of Mom going in for the ultrasound, and someone getting handpicked to know the gender, who then gets to brag that only they know while everybody else tries to get it out of them. At least it wasn't announced by a plane flying overhead-guess The Duggars were the only ones afforded that luxury.

I think the page is weak. It looks like it's full of links but really only consists of 4 video clips and links to 3rd party sites. *Also that graphic at the top of the page looks like someone answered a Craigslist ad for graphic art. I can see the photoshop clone brush and skewing operations someone attempted and failed at.

So TLC is serving up "Duggars, The Sequel"?

I'm so glad I don't live in the south. The Duggars/Bates mentality people SCARE me.

I live in the South and I'm happy to report I don't know a soul even slightly resembling anyone from the Duggar or Bates families.

Ironic: one of the ads before the online videos on the page is for Corona:)

I'm so glad to hear it! Based on what is shown of the Duggars and Bates, I was getting a very DIM view of life in the southland. Glad to hear these families are NOT representative of southern mindsets.

What a hoot! I guess Michelle will tearfully CRY her way to the bank.

Did anyone else notice that on the Bates special, their new baby came straight home from the hospital and everything was fine but on their family website there were a bunch of photos of him in the nicu and he had trouble transitioning and needed help to breathe? He must have been there at least a week because of when the photo was posted and when he was born and it said something like "we hope to have him home soon". Why hide that he was in the nicu? I have 2 nicu babies and it's not some sort of shameful secret to be kept or something. Very odd that they would leave that out of an episode that was focused around the baby's birth. Maybe they didn't want to overshadow Josie's nicu time or something weird like that? I can't wrap my head around it.

tulip said...

It definitely looks like they purposely left out Jeb's NICU stay-I too am curious as to how Gil & Kelly would explain this.

hello said...

I would like to believe that the baby's NICU stay wasn't shown because the hospital wouldn't allow a camera crew to film in there. I know if I had a baby in the NICU I wouldn't want a bunch of people in and out of there filming. Or it could be that Gil and Kelly chose not to have the baby filmed there. They seem to be more down to earth than Jim Bob and Michelle and the "fame" hasn't gone to their heads yet. I just wonder if when Kelly gets pregnant again they will go on the Today Show to announce it as the Duggars are so fond of doing.

Even if the hospital would not allow cameras and crews in the NICU, it is my opinion that Gil and Kelly should have included his stay there. There were plenty of opportunities in their commentaries. Why not divulge this info?

Wampascat said...

I think they left out that info because they don't want to be told it's a sign they should stop having babies. Just like the Duggars, they can't get it through their heads that the time has come to shut down the baby factory. Like my Dad was fond of saying, "You can't fix stupid".

Anyone heard when their show is supposed to start?

tulip said...

The show will start in June, but don't know the definite date.

Is their oldest son still courting Sarah?

Heard through the ATI grapevine that the Bateses were in a car accident and the car was totaled. Everyone in the car was fine.

When they were in Big Sandy, Gothard gifted them with TWO cars (condition unknown).

Seems like he likes the high-profile families being on the big ole teevee, even if his own adherents aren't supposed to watch it themselves. Good for recruiting, I guess. Given that Gil's been speaking at the Big Sandy and Nashville conferences for the past three years or so, the Bateses are definitely "royalty" status in ATI/IBLP circles.

First let me say that I do enjoy watching the Duggars and Bates. Even though I do not agree with everything, I still find the programs upbuilding and heartwarming. But, there is something strange going on with the Bates. I have seen several comments on their website asking about Zach and Sarah. But within a day or two those comments are removed. So I decided to try for myself. I posted a nice comment about what a lovely family they are and asked when the wedding was taking place. Sure enough, two days later my comment was gone. None of the other comments were gone and there were replies by Gil and Kelly to seceral comments. However, any comment about Zach and Sarah will always disappear. Try it and see.

Bates show has been delayed until August possibly August 13. The Duggar show is supposed to return in August. Why is TLC doubling them up?

ennvee said...

Sharla, I saw that as well and asked the same question. Why use the Duggars to lead in the lesser-known Bateses (which is what will likely happen) when you can just watch 2 episodes of either and not really notice a difference.

I also wonder about Zach and Sarah. They claim he was waiting to graduate from his faux college before getting hitched, but the Reith family schedule is pretty full for the forseeable future. As a moneymaker for the family, since it's a "kid's" act, who will replace her on banjo when she has to inevitably leave and live with the Bateses? Zach is not likely to leave his home and his "political career" behind to join the Reith family's band. The boys in Gothardville are exhorted to support their own family's ministries.

Just found a picture of Sarah Reith from the end of March in studio recording a new CD and there's no ring on that finger. AND their concert calendar is solidly filled through the end of the year. He should have at least proposed by now.

The Bates family seems to remove any comments asking about how the courtship/engagement is going. I wonder if they broke it off or if it's stalled.

There is a ring on Sarah's right finger, and wondering if it's a purity ring. Someone posted about the Duggar's take on purity rings, and I thought I remember seeing Jana wearing a ring on her right ring finger as well. With the music schedule booked up, I'm now doubting a wedding anytime soon. Not to mention, Zach may not be ready to "provide for the family" yet. Think of all the things Gothard men have to have in place to be the leader of their household...Josh's was easy, since he had everything handed to him by mom & dad and TLC. Probably why John-David is having to work so much, we hardly ever see him.

I remember hearing something about 19 kids starting back up in June, but now it's August, so, since The Duggars are moved back, The Bates have to follow in step...I don't think their special got very good viewership, and certainly not as much as TLC probably thought.

ennvee said...

I know the Duggar girls can choose both the style and whether they wear the ring on their left or right hand (I've seen it on both hands on all the girls, Joy included).

I imagine the Bateses, Reiths and other Gothard families operate pretty much the same way. For instance, Anna's purity ring happened to be on her left hand when Josh proposed to her, but I saw a ring people speculated to be an engagement ring on Jana (I always maintained it was an "upgrade" for her 21st birthday) on her right hand fairly recently.

It seems that many of the girls get to pick nicer rings as they get older (21 might be the magic age), although I'm just remembering a plain band on Erin Bates' ring finger. Then again, I think she's only 20. Sarah's ring seems to have some interest to it, so I imagine she got an upgrade. I doubt Zach can give her any sort of ring until they're officially engaged, since many courtships break up, since that's the time "regular people" use to get to find out whether they're compatible.

I heard that according to a TV guide article. It will be called United Bates Of America

tulip said...

According to the sneak peek title, it is indeed United Bates of America...oh wow TLC, what on earth are you doing?-bahahaha-I practically fell off my chair laughing when I saw that title at how corny and just plain ridiculous it is.

Now, on to the preview: I can't believe how important Valentine's Day is in that family-could not believe how decked out the table and decorations were. Maybe since it would be against the rules for the guys and gals to partake in the holiday the old fashioned way, Gil and Kelly came up with an all family celebration so no one feels deprived. Erin using Duggar-speak, saying how Valentine's Day is a very big deal to "our family". I was sorry to see baby Jeb, and what the family was going through at that time, however, I also was sorry to remember they don't have health insurance and thinking about all the money they send to Gothard for everything he decides not to grant them freebies for. Shame on Bill.

Goodie said...

I can't believe that either the Bates or the Duggars really give money to Gothard. After all, they are the "free advertising tools" for Gothard and his group/cult.

It was very sweet to see them making a big deal about Valentine's Day. Growing up we made a big deal about Valentine's Day although there were only four of us and we weren't even remotely Christian. Both my brother and I keep that tradition going. I don't care that some people think it's silly for me to do so when it's just myself, my husband and my son. It will be nice for my son to see one of our traditions portrayed on television. I couldn't come up with a good reason not to watch "United Bates of American" so we'll be watching it.

I don't really like the name.It implies all Christians here in the US are like the Bates,IMO.And what...are there 50 of them? No...so I don't think it fits.JMO.

I dont like the name of the Bates show either. First and formost is is so unorrigional I cant stand it, but thats how TLC is. Anyone remember a couple of barbers and battleship shows? And it also implies that everyone in the USA is like them, when that is so not the case. Anyway, I used to like the Duggars and cant get into the Bates family, but really? TLC this is the best you could do?? I got rid of cable, cant afford it, so I come here for the info, thanks bloggers!

I watched the newer videos. I can't say I'm impressed, which isn't surprising since I wasn't expecting to be, lol. I always fell asleep trying to watch the Duggars and this was no different. A huge snooze-fest if you ask me.

I find the clips to make me feel embarassed for that family. It feels like the camera is making fun of this family as well as the Duggars, just shining a light a bit too closely on how hickish they seem.

Why is it that the older Bates girl who was featured in most of the clips reminds me of a pageant girl? In fact, all of them sort of do, even the mom! Weird.

Not my cup of tea, definitely. I can't handle the religiosity of these people, they just seem so plastic and robot-like and unfeeling.

Erin is the 2nd daughter. Michaela is older. She always seems to be holding one of her siblings and perfectly content to do so. If being a housewife/stay-at-home mom is the only choice a woman has then it's not actually a choice. This isn't the 1900s or even 1800s where women married young and turned into baby factories or stayed singled and took care of other people's babies (nanny or teacher).

Kelly (or Kelly Jo) is a preacher's kid according to her testimony on the Bates family page. How could a preacher's kid not know the story of King David and his wicked wife Michal?
