This fish fry is an annual fundraiser for the church they attended while they stayed in Little Rock during Josie's treatment. I saw it mentioned on the church's Web site once (Friendly Church or something similar). It was nice of the Duggars to come out and participate, although I suspect it might have been TLC's idea ...

I might add that a few months ago while out Christmas shopping, I saw a church van for said church and noticed some of its members gathering outside of a restaurant and preparing to go in. I must say, they were very friendly. It's easy to see them welcoming the Duggars as they did. They were very cordial to me as a stranger passing by on the sidewalk. Southern hospitality at its best.

Is it just me or is it strange that they keep having "double features"?

Double the air time, double the cash?

Oh, gee, no, the $$$ can't be it. It MUST be that the Duggars want to provide us all with DOUBLE the ENCOURAGEMENT.

Sharla, do you have shooting order for these episodes and the upcoming weeks (where they celebrate Joy's b-day, which was a week before Jessa's)?

It would be nice to be able to put these episodes in something other than "Duggar Time." ;)

I only had a few episode numbers for early in the season when they were rushing production. They seem to be getting caught up now.

I suppose those haircuts (and neck shaving for Jim Bob of course!) couldn't have been done any oyher time except for right before going to the fish fry. "Duggar time" makes my blood boil.

Yeah, those haircuts are staged so we can all be impressed with Duggar thriftyness, despite their TLC $. What a joke.

And their laughing about "Duggar time" seems so inconsistent with their professed high moral goals in its arrogance and insensitivity to others.

Did someone get Michelle a bump-it for her birthday? Her hair looks horrible...she really needs to whack off about a foot of that hot mess.

While I'm on the subject of Michelle, I wish she'd stop feeding us the crap about not leaving Josie for her first year. We all know otherwise.

Other than the Johannah moments in the talking heads of both episodes tonight, a snoozer of an episode.

I'll admit it, I actually like the Duggars, sure Michelle's Kindergarten teacher voice gets on my nerves, and I am a Liberal Christian who believes in evolution, and that the earth is 6.5 billion years old, not 6,000 but I have friends with all sorts of lifestyles and beliefs. Having said that, 19 and counting definately needs some new material. I would rather watch them prepare a meal than go to yet another religious site and somehow participate. Yawn!!!

I must admit, as a fan of the show, this one was a snoozefest for me. I don't know if it was the Benadryl I took or what but I could barely stand to watch this. I have nothing against religious field trips (I am a Christian)but I feel like we have seen this all before. Actually we have, just in a different venue. I think the show may be running thin on daily material. Even like next week's episode, Joy's birthday. We have already seen a Joy Anna birthday episode. With 19 kids they should be able to spread the birthday episodes around.

Josie seems like a happy and healthy little girl. She seems like is right on track for her preemie age,not the age she would have been had she been born at her due date.I hope she can get off oxygen soon. I must say this though. I am sure the Duggars are "clean" but there really must not be a whole emphasis on keeping Josie away from germs if she is allowed to roll around on the floor where Jill and everyone else walked. She also plays with the other kids, who we have witnessed a lack of sanitary behavior from.

I can't stand the fact that Josie is already thrown in the mix of the little kids, and is being carried around by her brothers. She is in the midst of all kinds of germs, constantly, with all the people coming to their house.

I guess Michelle really couldn't keep to her mantra of not exposing Josie to so many germs for the first two years. She made it to a year, but nine months of that time, Josie was in the hospital, so Michelle really only kept Josie away from people for three months (and that included rolling around on a blanket with some other little baby, and getting to have the Bates and their germs visiting, among other fellowshippers).

Ok I'm glad someone else has noticed michelles insane hair! I hate to be "shallow" and notice something trivial like that, but her hair is just bogus. It's short in the front, crazy long in the back, and her bangs are just whacky. It's a shame because I think Michelle is a beautiful woman and has good hair, it's just styled so badly.

I agree this was quite the boring episode. I never thought I'd say this but I enjoy the episodes with Josh and Anna. I really like Anna and mackynzie is so precious. Im just tired of Michelle and Jim bob cranking out kids that they really aren't raising. You can argue with me all you want.. I have 2 eyes and I see the show... I don't need to see every minute of their days to know they aren't raising the youngest ones. Not well at least.

There was a point during "Jon and Kate" when I thought.. They really need to quit filming this show. The duggars have reached that point.

I agree! I wish all the Duggar women would cut that 1980's HillBilly Heaven frizz.

Most of the Duggar females are very pretty - what a shame they continue to wear their hair the way 'Daddy likes' instead of getting current with their 'do's.

Duggars: The 1980's called. They want their hairstyle back.

For a while I thought Michelle's hair was looking pretty good at least in front cause the bangs weren't fluffy. Now she is back to the 80's do and the back is way too long. I've noticed it the last couple of episodes. Wonder why she changed back?

msrylee said...

Michelle probably changed her hair back because her beloved likes it like that.

As much as I like the Duggars, I have to agree with other opinions that showing them participate in yet another religious play was boring. I fast-forwarded through most of that.

I'm pretty sure a family of raccoons could nest in Michelle's hair and she'd never notice.

Seriously, if lice breaks out in the Duggar house, Michelle's really SOL.

I guess I am a little late to the "party" this week, but I just have to comment about a couple of things.

1) I too was going to comment about Josie on the floor. I am not much of a clean freak but that went all over me - mainly because it is SO unnecessary.

2. I have been wanting to comment about Michelle's little "top knot" on her hair for weeks now. It's a look from a certain group of women from long ago. Even for Michelle, this is shocking.

3. Regarding Jim Bob and the boys getting haircuts at home. Yes, they used to do it to save money and now they could easily afford to get it cut in a salon - but my point for now is this: It seems to me that whenever the Patriarch (Jim Bob and all the others in the world) want to save $$, it is the women who have to pay the price. Good grief, Michelle has enough to do. If you you can afford a hair cut, why does she have to do it?? It seems like most of the "home made" saving ideas fall under the female jurisdictions".

On the more positive side, I am happy about Jill studying for a career. She seems happy about it and if I didn't mention it before, kudos to Jill and Jana for their fire department endeavors. Way to go!

O.K., I have put in my 2 cents for awhile. Peace and love to all.

I was just listening to the latest radio interview with the Duggars (the link is in the discussion for the other episode) and one thing I noticed Jim Bob saying was how the boys often do their own car repairs to save money. Since they have quite a few cars, I'm sure this saves a lot of money. He did say that they occasionally will bring it in if they are really pressed for time, but that the boys and even some of the girls know how to do car repairs or change oil, that sort of thing. They have shown this several times when the Duggars are about to go on a long car trip, checking air, changing oil, that sort of thing. But I guess they do even more with harder repairs.

But I agree w/ comments that the hair cut before the road trip was bad timing. Very weird....

I wonder how the sponsors (the people who pay the bills) feel hearing Jim Bob say over the radio that he sometimes goes to his sister's place to watch the show, but when the advertisements (which a lot of his followers said were "bad") came on they turned the T V off.

A lot of the sponsors do not harmonize with their beliefs and lifestyle, but Jim Bob does not mind taking their money.

Sold Out!!!!

I wonder what was done for Jordyn's birthday. Car ride, train ride, shooting range, jumping out of airplanes, etc. etc. etc. If it does not occur when they are filming,is anything done?

It seems to me that Jim Bob should watch the commercials for himself, decide whether or not they are 'bad' rather than listen to others. Also, if he truly believes that they are 'bad', then he should discuss that with his production person. It is not an 'encouragement' to expose your followers to 'bad' commercials that are shown along with your show.

That would never happen. TLC would never swap out advertisers if they're paying a certain amount to have viewers at a certain time. And it isn't the production, anyway, it's TLC. TLC contracts out production with Figure 8. And TLC would never let a "star" of a show dictate what advertisers are going on air, considering how much $$$ is being spent. The most Jim Bob could do is not have the show on cable television anymore, but I think they'd rather "sacrifice" and just tell people to mute or fast-forward or whatever they suggest. They seem to really think this show is making a difference (and maybe it is to a few people).

Did anyone else think it was extremely rude to invite the church people for lunch on a day that Michelle had to leave to record her book?

Anonymous said...

Could someone please point out the link to this radio interview mentioned?

The interview was mentioned in the February Discussion board. Here's the link: http://toginet.com/shows/livingthedreammom

Yeah it was odd to see her walking out while the guests were there but there are certainly plenty of Duggars to host them. Maybe the only day the church people were in town? They said it took 2 days to record Michelle's part of the book.

Anonymous said...

Just sayin' Michelle was the hostess, those church folks did a whole lot for the Duggars, and Michelle leaving was, at best, poor planning and, at worst, rude. I raised 6 kids, and yes, I gave birth to all of them, too. Never would I have left in the middle of a luncheon at my home, such as that, regardless of the fact that my husband and kids were available.

About the worst thing I have seen Michelle do is get on the bus, leaving 2 year old Jordyn, who was just behind her, to fend for herself. Where is her head?

Not trying to be rude but just wondering....how in the world is Josie supposed to learn to creep, crawl, and walk if she is not allowed on the floor?? I found it
VERY necessary for my children to be put down in order to reach these milestones.

To go away from the bathroom/bottle situation (IMO, they probably stopped using it as a bathroom {they do have<9> bathrooms}) but did anyone notice the VERY random segment on John David? I didn't mind, because he's a favorite of mine, but it seemed to be almost and advertisement of him. I could be totally off, but that's the way I thought of it. Again, I really like him, so I didn't mind.

I found it weird the way Michelle talked about prioritizing "being a mom" and "household chores" when she was about to leave to record her book. She made it sound like writing out the grocery list was the hardest thing ever, but my gosh, she's a MOM and she gets stuff DONE... it's a freakin' list! The older girls did the actual grocery shopping!

Anonymous said...

Johanna-- I think regarding the grocery list: She has many more/bigger meals to plan for, plus all those snacks, and taking inventory must be a huge job (I mean, look at that Pantry!!) but even if the girls do shopping (and she has mentioned shopping with Jackson or other children too) I do that for my mom. They probably like the chance to drive (I know I do!) and be free (even in my small family of 4, I like being alone or with one other person) But I usually let my mom make the list (and I add what I like) because it's not as easy, unless you're on a meal plan that only has a couple meals.

The Hair Cuts: probably wasn't done RIGHT before the trip. They have so much editing in this, they probably scripted the "but first we had to get our hair cut" thing. and also, they believe in the "neatly groomed" image. Hence the hairspray. But as my mom pointed out, what they save in Haircuts, they Pay in HAIRSPRAY (wonder if they've seen THAT?)

Kids all around Josie: immune system. She's probably a lot healthier than we think she is. plus I'm sure they make sure that she's being safe. Remember, the camera shows us one angle. Michelle could be right on the other side of the shot, but we don't see her, because they don't show her!

*gets off soapbox*
