Duggars May Have to Face What Gothard Has Done

The Duggars are being called to account for supporting Gothard in an open letter.

Because the Duggars have been indoctrinated to this so called " cult," and live by its teachings, I don't think they will be quick to abandoned Gothards teachings. I also think they won't hold Gothard accountable for his deviant actions. Mark my words the young ladies abused by Gothard will be accused of being troublemakers falsely accusing Gothard of such Sexual Crimes.

IMO, The Duggars are going to continue to do whatever they want, and will always find a way to justify it as we've seen time & time again.
They say they leave the number of their children up to God, but are continuing to "try" to have even more babies just shy of 48 & 49 years old. Yes, IMO, this is taking matters into their own hands as well as obsessing about it. Any couple with common sense would not be "trying" to have more babies at their ages when they already have 19 healthy children, 3 wonderful grandkids, and being selfish in that there's such a heavy risk of carrying a baby, or simply even conceiving, at an age where the health risks are huge for both mother & baby.
They have been involved with ATI since Josh was a toddler and have always sang its praises to no end, basing their entire lifestyle and way of parenting on it. Turning their back on the whole organization now IMO would be like telling the world they made a mistake for the past 20 some years. I see them justifying everything by simply saying that no man is perfect and we all sin and now that Gothard is out, all the more reason to show no need to concern themselves about continuing to support IBLP.
They campaigned Santorum for Pres. full speed ahead until he was a lost cause and then made a complete 180 throwing all their support to Romney, a man who's religion counters many doctrinal foundations of the Duggar's religion and in no way would they have supported otherwise. They justified it by basically saying since he was a Republican they would have faith their common views would be upheld.
They talk about needing to support companies like Hobby Lobby & Chik-fil-a, with Christian "values", yet justify fully endorsing Apple (a co. that's proud to voice support of gay rights) with their phones, laptops, etc. because their apps & software is what works for their family and provides the most security & protection which apparently they can't find anywhere else? (or got freebies & had to find a way to justify it?)
They talk about how the girls/women need to be modest, and the matters of the heart supersede appearance, but we have all seen & heard how important it is for the females to maintain their appearance by watching their weight, keeping long curls of flowing hair, fully made-up face daily, etc. yes, nothing wrong with us girls wanting to look nice, but once again, the Duggars own brand of legalese has proven itself to be nothing but hypocritical and a way to keep cashing checks.
All this in my opinion of course. As they say, actions speak louder than words.

I doubt they will acknowledge anything. They really don't care about that poor lady. They don't care about Jana. Their own daughter has most likely spent time alone with that guy; which breaks his own rules that the Duggars are so obsessed to follow.Someone should ask them on live TV and require a direct answer and challenge JB when he tries to dance around it.

Judging from Jim Bob's very recent action of withdrawing his support for a political candidate here in AR who had once represented a lingerie shop, I'd think he'd immediately drop his Gothard association. However, fundies are notorious for excusing and explaining sexual misbehavior among their herd as being misled by the devil, and not their fault.

Anonymous said...

I agree with these 4 posts wholeheartedly.

Also, I'm sure they ALL have free phones and all that goes with cellular communication at NO COST to them in exchange for that cellphone tower on their property and rent to go along with it..JB is no money fool. He's as sly as they come. He's one slick "hillbilly/boob". I apologize to all other decent rural citizens, as I was, also, at one time in my life.

Anonymous said...

They'll either go with the good old "he sinned and God forgave him so let's just go on with business as usual"(and it IS a business, don't be fooled into thinking otherwise or "those sluts were lying." My money's on the first one as being their public position, but privately they probably go for option number two, because all women are seductresses.

tulip said...

Haha, concern over a political candidate who at one time provided legal representation for a "lingerie" shop (of course selling other items besides lingerie), but they continued to stand behind people like Akin after the controversy over his rape comments, etc.? Again, just goes to show the Duggars will pick & choose, and will find a way to justify all of it one way or another. And yes, I believe they will absolutely find a way to explain Gothard's sexual misbehavior, after all, he's never been married so technically by what the Duggars believe, he's NEVER been able to fulfill any of his "natural" sexual desires/needs (as they like to point out that all men have & need to be fulfilled) as "self pleasure" is considered a sin as well? Wow, luckily JB is married or else what in the world would he do given his constant preoccupation with sex?

Anna's brother-in-law denounces ATI and Gothard and declares it as false teaching....see Esther Shrader's facebook page from March 1 repost of her husband's post. She is Anna Duggar's sister.

I think they will just chose to ignore it.I suspect tlc will advise them to do so,else they call more negative attn to themselves, and endanger the gravy train.I will be surprised if they do acknowledge it in any way.

I hope that Meg, and as many other Gothard victims as she can muster, will write an open letter to TLC begging them to cancel the show. The Duggars drank the Kool-Aid a long, long time ago and they are not about to denounce Bill Gothard, now or ever. TLC needs to take responsibility for leading people to a cult that abuses women in the name of Christ. TLC holds the power. Every time they put Josh Duggar on and talk about his new job they are condoning the Family Research Council, which has been deemed a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Council. Time for TLC to stop supporting sugar-coated, white-washed hate and abuse.

Gothard was at Erin Bates' wedding, so I don't think there will be any apologies.

To not support ATI and Gothard means the Duggars must recant all of their beliefs re: raising children that they've expressed on their reality show. Especially if any of their daughters ever spent times as one of Gothard's special assistants. And if you are a fan of the Duggar show, you should at least google The Quiverfull Movement and Gothard. The Duggars are no different from the Gosselins, the Housewives, the polygamist families - they will never give up their faux celebrity they've garnered through reality television until forced to do so by a public that is enraged - as was what happened to Kate Gosselin. Until there are laws in place to protect children on reality television, such as the Coogan Law for child actors (which helps at least somewhat) children should not be on reality television. I propose it is called the Gosselin Law or the Duggar Law. It simply amazes me that TLC continues to give shows to people who represent the Quiverfull movement or higher order multiples.

I don't care what the Duggars believe lifestyle wise or "God wants us to"; if my child were involved with a potential sexual predator in any way, I would come to their aid, apologize to them, renounce all association to this group and go to a public Christian church. A parent's duty is first to protect their children even if it means giving up "celebrity". That is crap in God's world anyway,. God doesn't care that we're on TV. The Duggars usually give their children second place to themselves, anyway.

flowerchild said...

Good point there. On regular Tv and movies babies and young children can only work for a certain time limit, that's why they use twins so much. But the Duggar children newborns even are constantly filmed. This should be illegal.

Judy said...

I still find it so ironic that they don't believe in allowing their children to watch tv but they put their kids on tv to make their money.

Anonymous said...

I remember when Josie was born and I thought, oh no, now they will give up the show to take care of their very fragile baby. I understood that was more important than having their lives be an open book to the world. Boy was I surprised at their priorities.

Judy said...

It's hard to gie up whatever millions they are making a year from tv, book deals, speaking engagements....

I doubt that Gothard will be featured at that wedding, maybe not even be invited.. hopefully.

Rudy Tecat said...

I bet Gothard will not be at the wedding...he'll be too busy investigating the allegations against him. Like OJ was busy looking for the "real killers" at golf courses down in Florida.

London bridges said...

If I had daughters who spent one minute with Mr. Gothard, I would be very worried. Has it occurred to the Duggars or Bateses to talk with their blessings about these allegations? Probably not, as their "leader" would do no wrong, and some young woman put the moves on him. He, of course, didn't do anything "wrong" and just walked away from the situation.

As a parent, I believe it is my responsibility to protect my children. How much protection was in place for the young people who had to obey their leader? It appears he had full access to these young women, and was alone with them, in offices and vehicles. Maybe some of the Duggars were in that position with him. We will never hear the truth from Gothard and his chosen ones, including Gil Bates and David Waller. JMHO.

Nancy Ann said...

My personal opinion is that Bill Gothard was probably smart enough not to mess around with the Duggar girls. Why take a huge risk with a family that is so high profile when there are plenty of other girls from families none of us would recognize? I do agree, though, that any parent who has had a daughter who might have been alone with Bill Gothard should be asking the tough questions of their daughters. I also agree with London Bridges that the Duggars most likely have not had these conversations and are in complete denial that their daughters might have been groomed by Gothard. Why insist that their children not hold hands while courting but not protect them from a sexual predator?

Why do they ignore jana?i hope she can get out.was she the one that wanted to go to NYC?

Doug Phillips, leader of Vision Forum, is accused of spending years "grooming" and sexually abusing a young woman under his religious "guidance":

Anonymous said...

Jinger liked the city, but that was "counseled" out of her quickly. Poor Jana just waits with patience that God will send her someone. Don't know how anyone knows she's there but because she's on TV. JB needs to "pray about that one". Although I suspect it is Michelle who advises against it because she doesn't want to lose her chief housemaid, cook and nanny.. Where is Grandma Duggar to help her granddaughters????

Nancy Ann said...

Uh, oh. More about Doug Phillips, Vision Forum friend of the Duggars. Seems he wasn't having a relationship with a woman but keeping a 15-year-old girl as a "sex slave". The Duggars have stayed silent about Phillips and have tried sidestep their relationship with Gothard. This is an interesting turn of events. The next one with a lawsuit will be Bill Gothard. Just a matter of time.

Here's another article that goes into more detail about Doug Phiilips and his "extramarital affair" that was really sexual molestation of a child.

How long will the Duggars stay on TLC despite their close relationships with sexual predators? I have written to TLC asking them to take 19K and Counting off the air for these connections to sexual abuse of women. I urge you to send them a message as well. TLC doesn't make it easy to contact them, but if you go to the Discovery Communications webpage you can find the information.

Grandma Duggar isn't looking very well. I understand we all age naturally, but that poor lady is standing for hours doing 10 loads of laundry a day plus I'm sure there are other things she needs to do as well as tend to herself. What the heck is wrong with JimBoob and Queen Michelle? They have to notice their own energy levels dropping since they are in their late 40s don't they think of Mary Duggar in her 70s? Such an abuse. Where is JB's sister? Why doesn't she talk to her mother about being treated better and why doesn't Grandma move back to her own house? I'd love to hear Mary Duggar address this on an interview on TV..others must wonder too.
I think this Quiver crap stuff is beginning to unravel quickly and the Duggars and the like should address the issues soon. They can't ignore it completely forever. Public outcry for them to directly address their association with these individuals needs to be explained.

Lily said...

Just a couple of notes here: I agree that Grandma Dugger is looking worse for wear. That poor lady has been turned into a slave/servant for his son and wife. Grandma should be enjoying her Golden Years not doing every ones laundry or babysitting this big brood.
Next: Erin Bates wedding on TV last evening. That Girl has reverted back to her childhood. Is it me or did she talk baby talk incessantly. That was sickening to listen to. Erin if you read this that Pink Bedroom has to go. Your a big girl now. Buy a couple of Home decorating magazines and change that Pepto Bismol Nightmare into something romantic for you and your hubby.
Last: This Doug Phillips is one major scumbag and so is his wife. I wouldn't be surprised if he is part of a Christian Good old boys club that has an underground club of sex slaves to play with while their wives are at home barefoot and pregnant.
By the way Anna Duggar is looking a bit washed out. Having 3 kids in a short amount of time is wearing on her looks. God Help the Duggar Girls once they start to pro-create.

Anonymous said...

I completely agree with "lily". You're spot on. Anna is going down the tubes, like they all will.
Someone has to step in and help Grandma. What's up with her? She owns her own house, GET OUT and move back in it.
Michelle should be ashamed of herself for letting her older mom in law do her family's laundry. Do it yourself, your Highness...

Anonymous said...

Michelle should have thought of the workload in that household when these girls/slaves eventually married. What was she going to do then? That time has arrived. My mother used to say, "if you play, you pay." It's pay up time Michelle. You enjoyed "playing with JimBob" those years ago,, time to strap on an apron yourself and pull your own weight as a mother/housekeeper there. Set Mrs. Duggar Sr. free; why does she stay? Anyone know?

I'm afraid the duggar girls are going to try to function under someone else's calling & not their own. I have 10 kids. I new from an early age I wanted lots if kids. I was called by God to be the loving mother of 10 kids. I have no doubt that was my calling. Eight of my 10 kids are girls. I have shared with my girls about my calling and how great it has been for me to be their mom. But I have also taught them from early on that God has a calling for their lives too & it won't look like my calling. I have 1 in college, & 2 married. Neither of them want or plan to have 10 kids. That's ok with me. The duggar girls have a lot to say about wanting as many kids as God will bless them with but they are saying that from a mindset not from any real experience. I know the only way I can be successful in my calling is because Gid gives me the grace I need to fulfill my calling. I couldn't be successful if I'm trying to walking out someone else's calling. I'm afraid the duggar girls will try to function through life wear their mothers shoes & it's gonna cause a lot of pain.

When I'm depressed and feeling down, 19 Kids and Counting is my "go to" show just like a couple of episodes of "Hoarders" gets me to clean my house from top to bottom. Lately though, this crappy family is making me sad and angry. Seriously, Jim Bob and Michelle?! No response whatsoever to these horrible, disgusting "godly" men that you've been following around the country for decades? Those poor older children (who are in fact adults) of yours have devoted weeks and months of their lives side by side with pedophiles. Poor Jana and all of her time she got stashed away at Journey to the Heart and her brothers Joseph and Josiah getting shipped off to ALERT. I really feel that Michelle has a host of psychological issues that are getting worse. She was a public school cheerleader with kind parents and sleepovers with friends. Jana is a depressed, uneducated slave that spends her days cleaning 9 bathrooms and cooking for 20+ people. Let your children live their lives and break away from your insane religion and evil role models!

Okay, here is the latest statement from Bill Gothard:

http://billgothard.com/content/statement-bill-gothard

Basically, it is complete doublespeak and a non-apology. Sounds to me like the Board at IBLP wanted BG to not make any public statements until after they had concluded their investigation, but he could not resist giving a statement mid-investigation.

sandi said...

I would think the Duggars being affiliated with ATI's Gothard and Vision FOrum's Doug Philips would be compelled to make a public statement by now.Does ignoring the situations by not speaking mean they agree with what these men have done?

Anonymous said...

I read Gothard's "statement", thanks for the link.

What this guy needs to do, is tell the truth about his "principles to live by", ie, release these families from his ridiculous interpretations and tell them that he is an obsessed molester who was wrong. This whole institution is a joke.

Holding your wives and children in "captivity of their homes" isn't a healthy Godly life at all.
The touching and stroking of these young girls which he described at "not sexual" is bullshit. If not that, what was it? He forbids couples from touching each other when "courting" what was his justification is doing that very thing? Doesn't say, of course..this guy is a perv. The Duggars and the like, should grow a brain cell and realize this. They look ridiculous to even the mainstream strict Christian world.

Anonymous said...

I was at the Bates wedding. Gothard spoke during the ceremony, if I remember correctly, and I watched as Daddy Paine gave a portion of the reception to hero worship Gothard as a great influence.

Interestingly, Gothard was edited out of the show.

JimBob can profess all he wants that they don't follow any man, but Jesus. Bulloney! It is utterly obvious that they follow Mr. Gothard's interpretation of scripture, education, sex, hairstyles, clothing, diet, careers, etal. Soo, how stupid does JB think we are to believe such an utterly false statement? It's obvious that their life is based upon this man's values, and practices, not that of Jesus. If this were true, and Jesus taught these beliefs and lifestyles, ALL Christians would live as they do; because it WOULD be in the bible and in the Gospel, parables spoken by Christ, etc., but it is not. Therefore, the Duggars, do, indeed, follow this Mr. Gothard and all his principles..I would like the JB and Michelle to respond to this which is quite obvious to all.

I read that this "wonderful family",the Duggars can be quite severe and outright mean to their children. When Josh was a jr. high school age kid, they forced him into a public confession to their "congregation" of his sins.. how humiliating and damaging this was to that kid. I think there is more to these "nice people" than meet the eye. They have total emotional control over their kids and also act as their children's confessors; and demand to know absolutely every thought that could possible be "sinful" to be confessed to THEM.. this is abuse, fear and just outright sinful of the parents.

Londonbridges said...

It makes me wonder, too, about the silence of the Duggars. Have the followers been gagged? Or do they truly ignore these allegations and believe that their leader could do no wrong? And how again am I supposed to be encouraged by the fundies? JMHO.

Nancy Ann said...

TLC makes it very difficult to send them messages about any of their programs. This is what I have found works to get through to them:

http://corporate.discovery.com/contact/viewer-relations/

When the news about Gothard broke I sent them a request to take "19 Kids and Counting" off the air. I just sent them another one because of the Duggar connection with Doug Phillips. I don't know how much good it will do, but it can't hurt to hear what people are thinking. They will send you an automated email response.

Rudy Tecat said...

Maybe I've seen too many of these confessions to know any better, but the one thing I didn't see in Bill Gothard's letter was a willingness to find the cause of his problems (and a solution to the problems) with a counselor. I guess only God is bigger than Mr. Gothard; He is the only one Gothard is turning to.

Anonymous said...

I contacted TLC through their web site to express my concerns and ask that they consider doing a program depicting the "other" side of Gothardville, i.e., the accusations of sexual impropriety and abuse. Here's what I got back from them:
"We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns with us regarding 19 Kids and Counting. Please know that your comments will be forwarded to our program management and executives and will be taken into
consideration. Comments such as yours are very important to us, as viewer opinions tell us what we can improve on and what our audience enjoys. It is these types of comments that contribute to creating change and improving our programming."
Nice words, but you have to wonder--just how serious ARE they about improving their content? Time (and ratings!) will tell...

I would venture to say that as long as tlc is making money off the show,19 KAC is not going anywhere. That almighty dollar is the bottom line.
Of course it doesn't hurt to write and let them know how we feel about any issues that have arised, surrounding the Duggars and their beleifs and affiliations.

I think TLC should portray this family for what they really are instead of the false reality that they are just wholesome Christians and fantastic parents that have created this efficient home with their rules.

TLC should put a notice before every episode that says they follow Bill Gothard's ATI home school curriculum, his Life Principles and they practice Quiverfull lifestyle of no birth control.

Anonymous said...

I think they should show what a close relationship the Duggars and Bates have with Gothard. Removing him from ATI does remove them from following his teachings. They still refuse to admit that his teachings are harmful to women and children and in my opinion to the men and boys as well.

I am in shock over all this new information on the Duggars. Maybe the answer is to stop goingf to TlC u instead g straight to the news, CPS, and ALL MAJOR MORNING SHOWS SUCH AS;GOODMORNING AMERICA, THE TODAY SHOW, ETC. as these are the ones that have always supported the Duggars, lets make them answer to why they never did better research into the true Duggar family and way they live, I was wondering why Jana is never shown anymore unless it shows her slaving, and why Grandma Dugger does any chores, and why certain kids get more than others. And for God sakes, get the kids new shoes for once, And having a boyfriend move in to their home is in no way promoting abstaining from sex before marriage, or is making son in a law a new slave part of the plan. TLC should be ashamed, their aiding in child labor laws being broke, and sexual assault.

Actions do speak louder than words. And yes we have heard Jim Bob say he is leaving it up to Michelle. I thought they were going to accept whatever blessings they were given.....so who is given the control Michelle or God?

TLC doesn't give a rip about leading peole to a cult that abuses women in the name of Christ. As long as people watch that trash advertisers will pay big bucks and thus they can prance around and brag that they have the #1 show.....and what a dog and pony show it is, ladies and gentlemen!

It appears that grandma duggar has always had to "help out" poor Deanna duggar and Amy so they are clueless to notice that it is time they step up and look out for her.

Think of how they tie a baby elephant to something and no matter how hard the little thing tries it can't get loose, so it gives up. When it is full grown and could easily yank free it is so whipped down from trying it won't even try. Welcome to the world of the duggars! Great job, Jim bob.
