Well praise the Lord. It looks like common sense ruled and she didn't try to go out in the snow in a skirt. Good for her.

There is hope for this couple after all. They look perfectly normal and natural together like any other loving young couple. Modesty is important but there are some situations (like this) when pants are a more appropriate wardrobe choice.

2 down, how many more to go? I'm waiting for the pic with all the girls in pants.

Way to go Jill! Wish you and your sisters would wear them more! There is nothing wrong with it. You and your sisters are great girls and deserve much more what your parents have put you through all your lives. They are so afraid to let you go, they are emotionally crippled. You have every right to get your part of TLC money, leave and go out on your own into the world. There are a lot of great guys out there, young God Fearing young Christian boys. And guys that have never kissed a girl.

Again, congratulations for making your own decisions about your clothes and sticking to it!

She actually looks really cute in pants. Not as frumpy as she/they do in those skirts. But I guess that is the point. I'm sure she feels she is in some way defrauding even her soon to be husband because the pants (albeit snow pants and not tight) show that she actually has legs and he can't yet righteously give into his desires. These people are crazy, my opinion.

That's awesome. Keep Pantsgate Alive!!

Jessa also wore pants when she went skydiving

My guess is it's just something to appear more mainstream. They seem to be doing that a lot lately.Probably to try and get the ratings up.jmo.

The snow pants are "well tufted" so, I guess Boob allowed her in them, as it pads the silhouette!

They have worn snow pants before. They bought them on an episode a couple seasons ago when they went to a speaking engagement in Colorado. So this isn't exactly new. Plus they have worn pants on other occasions when they had to - like with the fire dept or when Jessa went skydiving. I certainly don't think this means they will start wearing pants to appear more mainstream. I think they do it mostly when they need to, like when they are in the snow or for safety. Anna has said they wear skirts for the differentiation between men and women, and that they all keep their thighs covered (which is why you never see the guys in shorts).

Maybe when Jinger wore them recently and didn't get immediately thrown into the pits of hell, the others decided they could risk their souls too and try some out for size. I don't understand their "skirts are more modest" crap anyway. Skirts show legs (gasp!), they can get blown up in the wind and show even more, you can't bend or ride a bike or do any sports comfortably in them, and in the winter your legs would freeze to death in many climates. Hopefully now that the "girls" are grown up, they can use their own judgement and wear what makes sense, not what their crazy parents have drilled into their heads all these years.

I saw in the promo that Anna will also be wearing ski pants in the show where they go skiing. Does anyone know if Jill wears scrub pants with her scrub tops when she's working? All the pics are of just the top half of her except for one wear she's wearing a scrub top, with what looks like some type of skirt.

Guys in shorts: Josh, Michael, and Joseph. Are there others?

Their philosophy of wearing skirts is about as fundamental as this courtship thing. I think you guys are going to be disappointed. I see nothing changing...

If I saw a guy in a skirt, I wouldn't be confused and think that he is a female.
On the other side of the coin, if I saw a female in a pair of slacks, I wouldn't think she was a man. Anna's comment is utterly ridiculous.

I just googled Jill midwife and found a photo of her in a scrub top and a skirt. Mystery solved.

They didn't wear pants when they "worked" at the fire department. They got permission and made skirts to wear. That could have been dangerous if they ever called out to a real emergency. They would have been so worried about their skirts riding up and showing their knees that they wouldn't be able to concentrate on the emergency. Plus they might have defrauded a man if that happened.

I think a lot of what Anna say's is just plain ridiculous, but look who is her authority figure? She really seems to follow her mother-in-law's line also. Look how she is with Mackenzie. She has already made the statements about her being the leader & mommy's helper (we all know what that means.) It won't be long before Mackenzie is in complete charge of Michael and Marcus. It also won't be very long before Anna has another one. What a shame to have such beautiful children and not have the time to really enjoy each one and know them as individuals. Michael is really a spoiled brat. I believe it's because he's the 1st boy and we all remember how thrilled Josh was about his birth. He kept going on about; "now I'm a Dad, (he already was a dad) and I have a little buddy to do things with!" The heck with Mackenzie, she's Anna's responsibility to train in the kitchen begin learning childcare.

I don't think Michael is a spoiled brat. I think he's been shown as a typical two year old who is very attached to his mother. That said, I do feel bad for Mackenzie; she is going to have a lot of responsibility as she grows up.

About those skirts with the fire department: The real danger isn't seeing their knees, but a skirt isn't close to the body and can catch on fire... For heaven's sake, a firefighter walks INTO A ROOM OF FLAMES. It is a safety hazard and why it was "allowed" I'll never know...So utterly stupid of this family not to realize that it is a safety factor, and a serious one at that.

I think the skirts were just for their dress uniforms. The episode where some of them go to Joplin after the tornado shows both Jana and Jill in full firefighter gear-pants included.

RE: Skirts and the fire dept. The skirts Jana and Jill made from the uniform pants were/are for formal events. I think they mentioned pancake breakfast fundraisers as an example. For actual fire calls, the girls wear standard fire gear, including pants.

Jana and Jill most certainly did wear pants at the fire department:

There are 2 photos of them in the fire dept gear on this page (about halfway down). The skirts were for a formal event they had to attend to, so they made them into skirts.

Again, the Duggar girls wear pants when they HAVE to.

I think Judy might be right about Michael. Maybe he's not a spoiled brat but really attached to his mom. She really doesn't have the time she did before to spend with him and maybe that's showing now. Also the move was upsetting to him. Add to that his dad is supposedly keeping regular hours at the office, and he must really miss him. Josh gave him a lot of attention when he was home. I think, now Josh is loving the spotlight and the family is taking a backseat. Anna can only spread herself around so much with 3 little ones, without someone feeling left out.

Hello is correct about the girls wearing skirts at the fire dept. They made them from pants they bought and Anna helped sew them. They took them to the shop where they bought the pants, to show the women who worked there, that they could be made. They also showed the Fire Chief and got his approval. The first one they showed the "fire skirts," to was, you guessed it...Jim Bob!

I grew up with Menonites, they skiied all the time in dresses, just with ski pants underneath.

Since it isn't possible to spread yourself around to multiple children, Anna should think realistically about lining up those cribs for child # 4,5,&6. She will show signs of wear, and add unnecessary stress to her life. I know children are wonderful, but you do them no service in breeding them. They aren't a mug collection on the shelf. They deserve their MOTHER'S attention and time; not their sibling's. Haven't they learned a thing?

Women wearing pants? Scandalous! Next thing they'll be wanting to vote and drive those new-fangled horseless carriages that we've been hearing so much about.

It is absolutely stupid to wear pants, leggings, etc, and then a skirt over it. What's the point? Just wear the appropriate tunic tops with them. So ridiculous to have that skirt strapped on...

Anonymous said...

They do make scrub skirts for women in the medical field. I worked with a lady who wore one everyday.

I bet Jill is wearing her skirt under the pants. They look bulky.

Jill needs to be deprogrammed on her wardrobe. Jumpers, ugly long jean skirts, over-sized dresses, long sleeves in summer...not good! It is not about modesty. It is about Daddy & Bill Gothard controlling their women.

There so out of touch with reality."god told Michelle they had to wear long skirts"seriously she needs to stop living in the twlight zone

I agree, Jill looks beautiful in pants and so do all the girls, but they also look beautiful in skirts too. In my opinion, they look nothing close to "frumpy" in their choice of dress. To me, they always look very well put together. If you read the book written by the older girls, they state that their family chooses to wear skirts and dresses because of it's femininity. They also stated in the book that one of their favorite things to do is shop thrift stores all over the country for cute clothing at very reasonable prices. I don't believe any of their clothing is brand new, and it doesn't need to be because it always looks pretty and modest. Yes, they cover up quite a bit, but it doesn't look bad on them because all of the girls are beautiful. I've seen them wear trendy scarves and necklaces to really jazz up their outfits, and it looks great.

Also, the girls really look up to and admire their parents. Once again in the book, they describe how their parents have always been their number one support system outside of God. So no, the parents don't force them into anything. They have taught their girls growing up that modesty is the best policy. And it truly is, especially in the Christian sense. The Duggar girls describe that they don't need attention drawn to their bodies, but instead they want attention drawn upwards to their faces. Although they do not wear jeans or pants regularly, they say that it is no problem when the situation requires them. Michelle Duggar stated that if the girls were doing an activity such as biking, of course they would wear pants. So in the end, I believe that the girls have grown up with so much more responsibility and with a good head on their shoulders. I hope every one of them meet the man of their dreams because they deserve it. I'd rather have Jill, Jana, Jinger, and Jessa anyway over Kendall and Kylie :)

Theres a recent picture of Jinger wearing sweatpants and tennis shoes, she's breaking away, my hopes are high for you Jing!
