This confused me. Is the 1 hour "wedding sneak peek" really an hour? I read it / assumed it to be reruns at the 8 o'clock hour - with a wedding sneak peek for maybe 2 minutes in the middle - to get people to watch reruns again and 2 hours straight of Duggars. I have noticed other weeks as well that repeats often still say "new" when they aren't - and things like 2 half hour episodes are billed as one hour long episode, leading one to believe it IS something "brand new" when it isn't. Time will tell I suppose.

They should put Benseewald and Jessa in Grandma's tiny old house with Derickdillard and Jill... I'd watch that show.

Sharla said...

I agree that TLC is playing fast and loose with what is a "new" episode again. I did want people to know that there might be a sneak peek so put it up so people could decide to watch or not.

Judy said...

As long as they have one tiny new segment, they get to consider it new, I think. And you know what that would be? That would be Michelle telling us all about when she gave birth to Jessa. Because that's what she likes to recall.

jesskeeffe said...

All about jessa? That should be the name of the entire season not just one episode. And I can't be the only one who thinks jessa looks completely anorexic

Quiana said...

Wow. There are new people I've never seen in the first part of his ep before the football game.
A 'joint party' because they don't want to be away from each other? They're about to spend their life together! IDK
John David doesn't look good, looking just like Josh.
And how say Michelle say we home schooled but I wanted to teach them to pass it on and phase myself out of a job! That lady!

Carol said...

Nine minutes in and i can't take anymore. Just a few thoughts - wtf is a compliant baby?? Josh thinks comparing someone to himself is a compliment. And does Mechele ever teach her own kids or was Jessa doing it all??

griffin said...

i agree with kk and sharla's observations. i am thirty five minutes into the "new" episode preceding the "remembering jessa's moments" episode. this is nothing but a huge boring rerun rehashing everything we've already seen.they do this so often. . . yawn. . .

Methinks the main Duggar household will descend into chaos and G-ma Duggar will get buried in a pile of laundry, without Jessa-Blessa around to keep everyone on track.

Fly, Jessa fly! I sure hope she has. I bet she is secretly relieved she doesn't have to think and plan for everyone anymore.

Now it should be 15 kids and going down. Three married, and one off at "college." --

simba said...

GAG! The boys looking at their brothers talking, all googly eyed like michelle looks at jimbob! The way the girls talk about their brothers or even Ben is just plain weird, like girls talking about boys they have a crush on! And the schooling, I wonder who they have pretend to teach now...

simba said...

Jimbob had to be the one to say be fruitful and multiply, I think the only sane one in the whole group is Ben's mom

miabellavintage said...

I found it sad to realize Jessa has so many leadership, take charge skills and she won't be able to do anything outside the home. That woman could be CEO, for crying out loud.

Judy said...

So now we know that Jessa is organized and Ben is "like an artist." Sounds good to me.

If Moochelle sits Josie's bottom on that kitchen counter where food is prepared one more time....I think I will SCREAM!!!!!

I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor after listening to Michelle talk about her homeschooling methods! Seriously, she expects her older children to teach the younger ones after they master a subject or concept? Wow, is there any kind of parenting going on with JimBob or Michelle or is it just older kids raising their siblings?! I suppose they reason that it's good practice for their daughters when they get married and start popping out babies. I love that Jessa hasn't announced a pregnancy yet, I bet she is secretly using a birth control method. Enjoying her freedom from slavery for awhile!

HoneyGraham said...

Michelle doesn't know who is going to take over Jessa's role with home schooling. How about you, Michelle, the mother.

I would like to be as organized as Jessa, that is a good quality to have, but my goodness those older kids should be able to pack their own clothes and necessities.

I don't mind Ben, it is just a shame that he wasn't able to mature more and become a man before he got married.

I can't help but laugh at Derek and Jill giving marriage advice. They had only been married 5 months. I liked that Ben's mom said to take it one moment at a time. I have a feeling she isn't too anxious to become a grandma yet. But, Jim Bob's advice is to be fruitful and multiply. It is beyond my comprehension how a person could be so consumed with making a baby.

I think this episode once again showed that Michelle literally does nothing in that family. When one of the kids (girls) leaves there is someone else to fill that persons place, and it isn't Michelle.

wampascat said...

Compliant probably means she had to be smacked fewer times than most babies to stay on the blanket. Sad,but true with these weirdos.

Traci said...

Josiah has been spotted!
I didn't see Jana in any of the football footage of the "crowd", she probably was watching the younger ones which is sad.

Snowflakes said...

I agree it ridiculous that Michelle isn't sure just who is going to take over Jessa's responsibilities. It doesn't matter how many kids you have, if your the mother it's your job & not theirs. I'm not talking about someone helping out a bit, but between Grandma Duggar & Jessa a lot of Michelle's work has been being done by them. Guess that's why she has time to work out & text with best friend Cindi. I knew Michelle wasn't teaching those kids. Exactly what does she do around that house?

simba said...

I think my jaw dropping moment was when Grandma said she does 70-80 loads of laundry a week for the family!!! When does that poor woman sleep??!!!!

Sara said...

Is anyone watching "Bringing Up Bates"? Tori pretty much gave it away that a Dugger and Bates girl are spending time together. Perhaps the reason Joe moved to Tennessee and is rooming with Nathan. They most definitely said there WOULD be a Bates/Duggar weddin' in the future. On Lawson's IG acct, Joe is pictured in a canoe with Tori.

I do not think Jessa looks anorexic. She is a petite girl. She is working out and toning up. I have seen her several times and she is maybe 5'2 at most.

All the girls are not very tall.

Joy is the one I worry about because she has gotten so heavy and she has a look of sadness in her eyes.

Bobbi said...

I agree. Jessa is smart & could develop her organizational skills & far more if she were permitted to go to college. Sadly that won't happen because Jim Bob is still in control of his daughters marriages. I wish Derick & Ben would tell Jim Bob to stay the hell away from their marriages. Jim Bob's be fruitful & multiply comment just really shows the lack of education & his character. Jim Bob is so obsessed with sex he's a perv who dangles his feet in the gutter. He's a Loser!

I think they're down to Johanna as the homeschool teacher, right? Or, is she too busy sorting the laundry or packing clothes for a bus trip?

Bobbi said...

Carol. Re your comment about Josh comparing someone to himself was hilarious thanks for the great laugh. Josh is so self absorbed. This guy only has a GED & yet considers himself above everyone. Josh is overweight, bad tempered, entitled, elitist, & the majority of the time is incorrect when speaking on any subject other than Anna's continuous pregnancies. Lets face it Josh just isn't an attractive person.

Bobbi said...

Ben is also athletic. The guy is agile & can move on a football field.

hello said...

I would like to know what Michelle does all day. She certainly isn't raising her kids. Grandma does all the laundry, Jana is in charge of raising the kids, and Jessa was in charge of homeschooling. Now Michelle is worrying about who will take over homeschooling because she certainly doesn't think she should do it. She is much too busy being Jimboob's buddy, going to speaking engagements, going on date night, texting her friend, going to the gym and going away with Jimboob. I don't know why she gets so excited when she finds out she has a new grandchild on the way. She spends as much time with them as she does with her own children, which is not a lot.

With just a little effort Jessa could start her own home-based organizing business. I hired one a few years ago and it was wonderful. They even have a Christian group.

This is the largest group:

My heart breaks for the Duggar kids. The girls in particular. They have so much potential that is squelched by Jim Bob & Michelle. Jim Bob teaches his daughters their only purpose in life is to become baby factories. This is just so disturbing. It's too bad that law enforcement can't intervene & remove the Duggar kids from the Jim Bob controlling cult. These Duggar women could be so much more that continuous reproduction. With Derick a college educated person, I had hope for Jill. All hope wa soon dashed as upon her marriage, immediately she became pregnant. I am still holding out hope for Jessa. I hope she's on birth control. Then there's Jana. Her parents take huge advantage of her. I don't believe JB & M will ever allow Jana to court. At age 25, Jana doesn't need the permission of JB & M on any issue. The poor girl doesn't even have the privacy of her own bedroom. For some reason, JB & M target or abusr Jana why? Jana seems such a lovely & kind person. However, I do see sadness in her eyes. Re Jana, I wish someone from TLC could intervene. Clearly the similarity between the rules for women within the FLDS mirror that of Gothard & Jim Bob & Michelle's insane rules they have established for their children. Also, from the manner in which the younger Duggar kids communicate, the home schooling way of education is quite limiting.

"I think my jaw dropping moment was when Grandma said she does 70-80 loads of laundry a week for the family!!! "

If she said that it doesn't make any sense. Even with kids I'm only doing about 3 loads a week, and even with, say, 2 loads/week per person, that should only be 40 max, and can't the older ones do their own laundry?

Mary Duggar said she did 70-80 loads of laundry in the all about jessa episode. I bet Ben's parents are very happy they haven't announced a baby yet, you could tell that was the last thing she wanted when michelle told her in a year from now, you could be a grandma

What TLC "The Learning Channel" and the Duggars have taught me.
1. I do NOT want to have 19 kids.
2. I would never, ever want to be on a reality show.
3. I would never, ever expose my children on a reality show.
4. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. Everyone's a critic no matter what you say or do. The country would have a field day with my family.
5. Reality TV is boring.
Goodbye TLC and goodbye to the Duggars. I recommend listening to Kacey Musgraves' song "Follow Your Arrow". Stick that in your quiver. And maybe follow that up with her new song Biscuits.

over it said...

Why do people make a big deal out of Derick being a college grad? In this day and age almost everyone outside of the Duggars has a degree in something, many times multiple degrees. I haven't been impressed by any show of actual intelligence from him, in fact the cat sledding incident clearly shows a lack of. Or maybe the Duggars are really rubbing off on him. :/

simba said...

Rewound the episode, Mary DID say she washes 70-80 loads of laundry a week! That poor woman

wampascat said...

I suppose with towels and bedding and clean clothes daily it may add up to that many loads. But,I've noticed many of the kid's beds have no bedding whatsoever, which is gross.maybe Grandma runs many smallest loads as she gets them to keep up,but still, she must be in that laundry room most of the time!!! Shame on Michelle!!!

Jill L said...

Mary is not stupid. I'd rather do laundry than homeschool the little ones, pack, cook, clean, or watch the little ones. It's probably the quietest room in the house!

Stephanie said...

I agree with Jill L. Grandma carved out the "chore" that she herself was willing to do. It does get her away from direct child care. Also, Grandma D never shows her bedroom or private area. I'm surprised she really lives there she could help with laundry and still live at home.

Is Mary now under Jimbob's authority since she is single?

Ginger said...

For anyone who hasn't been watching the Duggars since the beginning, I just wanted to mention that Jim Bob's all time favorite line is.. you guessed it: BE FRUITFUL & MULTIPLY. He manages to get that line out as often as possible on the Ministry/Show on TLC as well on every show they have ever been interviewed on such as Today Show. He's a disgusting pig.

no1 said...

This episode was a bait-and-switch; déjà vu all over again. They must be really scraping for material.

Syndee said...

"They must be really scraping for material."

Well TLC isn't stupid, and neither is Jim Bob. Probably not Michelle either. TLC is out to make money, not portray an accurate life. If weirdos make a buck, they will make shows about weirdos. The more that is controversial about Gothard, the more they will film the show. And the more us "haters" will watch, because I have to admit I really got sucked in and now I have to see how it all ends.

And JB isn't stupid, he knows where his power comes from, it comes from more and more kids under his realm. By the time he's 70 he could have 100 people in his kingdom. Where else could he have had that power, he's not educated enough to get a real job and be CEO or whatever.

I bet he promised Michelle, you just have all these babies, you don't have to lift a finger and you can lead them all to be like you. And she went along with it. I don't think she's just a JB follower, she definitely gets something out of it.

Jill L said...

Sydnee I was thinking the same thing about Michele! If she is too tired for her procreational duties! JB can't have that. She probably told JB that if want me to be available to you whenever you'd like/need, then find someone else to launder the close, cook the meals, and school them.

got2bdrc said...

Regarding the Duggars' laundry: I do 12-14 loads a week for my husband and myself, but we have only a apartment sized washer and dryer (though I line dry almost everything), and 8 T-shirts constitute a full load. Washing bedding, bath, and kitchen linens takes up 4 loads, and we send the heavy blankets out. 70-80 loads for the Duggars doesn't sound like alot given the things other than clothing that require regular laundering. On the other hand, looking at the those kids' beds, I'm not sure their sheets and blankets get washed all that frequently.

lor said...

Here are a few things I've noticed over the past few seasons that bother me or don't seem right.
1. Michelle and JB talking about guys having sexual needs are wives having to always be ready: they act like girls don't ever have those needs. girls can have greater needs than guys.
2. The Seewalds aren't the same as the Duggars like the tv show wants people to believe. if you look at Jessica Seewalds IG you will see that she wears pants and tight shirts. she also has pictures of her with guys.
3. this episode, when Ben's mother was talking, made it seem like the Seewald family isn't into the whole courting thing they didn't say anything because Ben wanted to be with Jessa.
4. This family can't be as close as they seem to be. It's not possible for these kids to be as close as they are with all of their siblings. i believe that Jessa and Jinger are close though.
5. It bothers me that Jessa and Jinger couldn't keep working at the coffee shop where they volunteered at. they seemed to really like it and they raised a lot of money. I also can't believe the sweatshirt that Jessa wore that episode, it didn't seem to meet their modesty standards.
6. why is Jessa home schooling her siblings? that's not her job. she didn't choose to home school them her mom did.

coleen said...

"per Sara "Joy is the one I worry about because she has gotten so heavy ..."

Joy is still a teenager and a lot of teen girls' weights fluctuate.

Snowflakes said...

Re; lor's comments I agree that it's not Jess's job to be homeschooling. At one point in time they didn't show it after people commented that the kids doing the home schooling were not legally old enough to do it. As far as the time the girls "worked" in the coffee shop that was for a charity & it was established that it would only be that one day. Too bad they did enjoy it. It wasn't necessary for the entire Duggar family to come in while they were working there.

Ginger said...

RE:got2bdrc comments about the kids bedding getting washed. Those kids don't have much bedding at all. I'd be very surprised if each bed had top & bottom sheets as well as blankets. I think you can totally forget mattress covers. It's something that really bothers me as I think clean sheets & blankets on a bed are essential for anyone. JMHO

The trivia section on IMDB.com for this show says the Duggars do 40 loads of laundry a week. That seems more realistic than the 80 they claim.

Bobbi said...

Re Jessa.. I think she's somewhat smart. I believe in Ben she saw an opportunity to bolt from the Duggar compound. I can relate. When I was Jessa's age I married quickly to bolt from my abusive Baptist parents. A year later & MINUS children because birth control is effective I divorced & moved to another city. No regrets.

I think it is a disgrace that Grandma Mary has to do all the laundry for this bunch while Michelle and JB just prance around and do nothing to take care of all these kids they so desperately wanted to have. JB is a mean person using his mother as a wash woman. And Michelle is a lazy cow . If I was JB's sister I would kick Ben and Jessa out of Grandma's house and let her live there in peace.

Jana's Spurned Suitor #8 said...

I call a "fake" about that pink football all the ladies were signing at the game. Jill had to have seen it; after all, they were sitting right there around her, and the camera guy was right there, too, zooming in on it. I'm sure Jessa knew about it.

Syndee said...

Yeah, what's the deal with that? Shouldn't that sister have some sort of influence on the grandma? I don't know much about the sister

Bertha said...

TLC is really slick, they call it a sneak peek. They should call it a sneaky peek- they show about 2 minutes of something new buried under hours of rehashed, old repeats of repeats.

RE: "be fruitful and multiply" in the bible didn't mean it as literal as Jimbob and others like to joke about. I am no seminary student but i know what this means. Biblically and simply it means to spread God's word

Wednesday said...

There is just no way they do 80 loads of laundry with the industrial sized washers and dryers that they have. Maybe when they do a really huge clean they get up there. I wash sheets every single week and blankets once a month and with all of that my family of 5 has 10 loads per week. If you reconfigure that # to the Duggars then 40 loads a week is more realistic.

Quiana said...

I've always wondered what Jim Bob's Sister and cousin Amy really think of the Duggar lifestyle?
I think I saw in one episode a long, long time ago that Michelle's dad wasn't happy with the way she keeps popping out babies. Am I wrong?
Also what is Grandma's view on that? Was that her life stance too at one time or still is now?

sunny side up said...

Stephanie re: be fruitful and multiply, Um, no, it doesn't mean to spread God's word..lol! It was said to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, and it indeed meant to multiply the human race. At that time, there was no one else to spread God's word to. Whatever you may think about the Duggars, they have indeed interpreted this Bible verse correctly. Lol!

Bobbi said...

I believe Jim Bob's sister I think her name is Deanna? & cousin Amy deep down believe the Duggars lifestyle is laughable & at the same time sad because of the lack of the Duggar kids freedom. Amy once vehemently said "I date I do not court ". Smart girl. Also during Josh & Anna's wedding reception, Amy was teasing Josh who really became angry & tossed cake at her dress. Josh showed his true colors on that day. Obviously Jish is hot tempered, lacks self control & again, has a zero filter. I leave the room or switch the TV channel when Josh makes his nonsensical comments as generally, the guy is clueless or misinformed which, is the majority of the time.

GJJ's mom said...

Am I recollecting correctly -- Jim Bob's dad wasn't a fan of the lifestyle? All the kids?

Josh threw cake at Amy at his wedding? That is behavior of someone who drank too much and we know that can't be. Incredibly childish behavior. So sad.

"pretty girl said...
where is ben's mom and dad they need to stand up and say no my son will not be marrying at this young age."

Michael Seewald (Ben's father) has a website and blog about family and "salvation". In a recent family post, he says that he dislikes the trend of young people marrying later in life, and that he feels marrying when you are young cuts down on young people lusting for each other. He feels that early marriage helps them stay away from pre-marital sex. In his words:

But we have a situation in our society that lends itself to frustration and sexual immorality in young people. Three forces have ganged up on them and are making their lives difficult,

1) The ever earlier age of puberty which prolongs the time they struggle with unfulfilled sexual desire.
2) Another is a society which promotes extended childhood and irresponsibility.
3) A third factor is parents advising their children against the pursuit of marriage until later. They may have good reason for this, because in all reality, most twenty year olds in America are ill prepared for marriage. This may be due to parents not being intentional in their training and/or a societal norm of immaturity and low expectations.
So we have young people who are physically mature and desirous of romantic relationships, yet ill equipped to follow through because of lack of preparation and poor advice. This lends itself to great difficulty for young men and women. Meanwhile, our young people live in an over sexualized culture while they are advised against partaking of the preferred biblical antidote to sexual immorality- marriage. This is the recipe for frustration or moral failure in many of our young adults."

He also says this about the Duggar idea of "giving away pieces of your heart", although he does not not use the name "Duggar". He says:

In some conservative, Christian families, there is another factor that further exacerbates the problem. Many fathers, overzealous in protecting their daughters, have made the process so difficult and foreboding for young men to establish any kind of relationship with their daughters that the young men don’t even try, and pursue elsewhere. These fathers can have so many unreasonable hoops to jump through, that the young man sees it as impossible.

Some dads want some kind of commitment from a young man towards his daughter when he has never been given the opportunity to get to know her on a casual level. Give some room for healthy relationships between young men and women. Dads, a twenty year old young man is not going to be as wise or mature as you are at forty five. Cut them a little slack. Some parents feel that a heartbreak is the end of the world for their children, and tend to be overprotective.

There is also the idea that if a young man or woman has romantic feelings for someone that they are giving a little piece of their heart to them. If it turns out they don’t marry that particular person then there will be less of their heart for their spouse. While there is evidence that this is true in a sexual relationship it is absurd to think it is true of mere romantic feelings. There is no basis for this in Scripture. Parents can guilt their children to death over these feelings which are unavoidable."

While most of Michael Seewald's ideas are a little hard to swallow, I do agree with him in that casual relationships with members of the opposite gender are not harmful, and will benefit them in the long run. The more people you meet in your life, the more experience you will have in learning to deal with people who may challenge you. I have always felt that each time a person challenges me, causing me to defend my beliefs, the more it causes me to examine what I believe and make sure it is what I truly feel, and that I am not just parroting what I was taught by my parents.

Here is a link to the article by Michael Seewald. Note: this website also has an article where Mr. Seewald defends Jessa's Holocaust statements.

Jessa's neckline on her wedding dress and her engagement-day outfit (khaki shirt w cami? underneath) are the lowest necklines I've ever seen on a duggar. Both looked nice but wonder how she escaped the "covered knees to neck" rule since they usually wear a shirt even under a polo.

Bobbi said...

Question?? Why do the Duggar girls wear flip flops at events that are inappropriate? For example indoor rock wall climbing? In El Salvador climbing a mountain path. A church event when the girls performed a violin concert? One would think the parents (DUH) would have said to prevent an injury, wear appropriate footwear. I also thought it was tacky of Jill to go barefoot under her wedding dress. Jill could have worn ballet flats. But this is " I need attention 24/7" Jill".

Bobbi said...

One of the women sitting in the bleachers was Sierra he wedding planner. During Jill's wedding this woman behaved as if this was a royal wedding & it wasn't. Just a tacky reception. Sierra is too dramatic & easily upset. I am sure Suerra will behave the same regarding Jessa's reception. It also appears & according to the manner in which she dresses that Sierra aspires to the Gothard way of life. Geez so frigging boring.

Jill's lack of footwear at her wedding was probably tied to the expression "barefoot and pregnate"; a way to symbolize her modesty and purity.

I finally had the chance to watch this episode and was I surprised to see the banished son, Josiah appear on screen.

He was with John David and all he did was smile, nod head once or twice, look at his brother and utter one three word sentence.

I was surprised that he was permitted on camera at all. Maybe TLC has been reading some comments and got with JimBob and Michelle to tell them that they better do some damage control and get Josiah back into the family fold.

j-anon said...

Michelle is so shameless about dumping responsibility on her Cinderdaughters. And Jim Bob is thoroughly spoiled and creepy. Even though the show seems heavily cheesified to make the kids seem as bland and mindless as possible, I wonder how they really feel about being molded into buddy-moms, Downton servants, and Kimmy Schmidt-like mole women. Jana, Jill, and Jessa are adults who are responsible for their own behavior, but it occurs to me how difficult it must be to be responsible for things their own parents can't or won't handle.

Bobbi said...

Hey Ruth yes you are correct because shortly thereafter, St Jill became oregnant. Jill is still behaving as a child who soon, will raise a child. Oh I forgot, when Jill begins working on baby #2, very soon & tires of baby #1, once again, Jana will be forced to step in & raise the 1st child. It's sad that Derick has proven he has a zero backbone.

Bobbi said...

YES Josh threw cake at his cousin Amy's pretty dress during Anna & his wedding reception. Amy said thanks a lot Josh but one could see she was definitely displeased with his behavior. Oh & the look on Josh's face when he threw the cake at Amy was one of extremel anger. If TLC airs the wedding of Josh & Anna again just watch for the cake throwing incident. Josh & Jim Bob are reprehensible.

--

Ben's parents were 20 years old when he was born, and Michelle and Jim Bob were also really young when they got married. There's absolutely no expectation that Ben and Jessa are too young to get married.

Leigh Ann said...

It's not their age as much as the fact that they have nothing of their own to help them establish an adult life of their own. My parents were 19 and 21 when they got married but my dad, even though he didn't finish high school, had a good job in the oil field and was able to support them both (for the most part, sometimes my mom had to work a little early on) that turned into a lifelong career. If Ben were working toward any kind of skill -- auto mechanics, plumbing, etc. -- or a hadreal job this wouldn't be nearly so bad. Working for your father-in-law is one thing if he owns a real business with actual employees, but just being the family handyman is nothing to build a future on. Sure, they get income from the show, but that's not going to last forever. It's not their age that bothers me, it's the short-sightedness of it all. None of us may approve of Josh's job but at least he has one and Derrick, of course, has a good job if he doesn't quit it to be part of the Duggar machine. Hopefully he's smarter than that.

Wow, Michael Seewald is just as crazy as Jim Boob!

I hope that Jessa and Ben realize IF they feel unready to start a family, that they can make the decision to use birth control. JMHO.

Maybe they need that priest who told them kissing before marriage isn't a sin, to tell them that birth control isn't a sin either.
