Will a Duggar girl be next down the aisle?

Lord I hope not. They look like they are enjoying being single.

The girls begin to be courted and the boys pick up new instruments? That doesn't seem fair!

Wow. Completely titillating. I think I'd rather sit outside and watch the grass grow. If by courting, they mean dating, I'd be interested. If they mean Jim-Bob screens potential "like-minded" boys and the courters get to sit in the living room and twist their hands all over like Smugs and Anna did under the watchful eyes of the families, then, um...no.

I've heard a rumor about Peter Query courting one of the girls, so I'm going with that. From what I can tell, Peter seems to be much more of a person than Josh. This actually could be somewhat interesting-as far as I'm concerned, anything diverting attention from Josh & Anna, Jim Bob & Michelle, and Cousin Amy (Note to TLC-we're so beyond over them), could be worth tuning in for.

I think the courting thing is another red herring, otherwise we would have heard something by now; a lot this stuff was shot over 6 months ago.

More like Jim Bob telling the camera (again) how many offers he gets for the girls that he shoots down before the girls even have a chance to have their say. No way any of those girls are leaving the house. Jill has her "career," Jana is tomato-staked to Josie for about 5 more years and the other two are still too young. Not to mention, they need Jessa to "teach" - illegally according to Arkansas' definition of a homeschool teacher.

Jinger has virtually no discernible skills that would make her a good quiverfull/Gothardite wife. She hates cooking and doesn't seem to bond with the little kids or even like them very much (a trait Josh appears to share). She can do laundry, play the piano and take pictures for a potential family blog. That's about it.

As we once heard on an earlier episode, "Jim Bob, you sure know how to keep a show going..."

Yeah, since the old girl has gone barren, let's pimp out the younger Duggar womenfolk. Gotta keep those ratings and resultant paychecks coming in.

The most blazing hypocrisy to me in this whole stupid reality fairy tale that is the Duggars is that they portray themselves as SO holy and above any who are less conservative than they.

Many of us liberals would never even consider pimping out our kids for any reason, muchless for the ugly reality that mommy and daddy just do not like to work a real job.

The Duggar/Bates/Gothard cult falls far short of holy IMO.

"Peter Query courting one of the girls"

Hilarious to think that a Duggar might end up with that particular moniker. Why, even the name is probably considered sinful in Duggarville.

sandi said...

I was afraid it would come this...I really hope the girls WANT to court, and aren't just doing it for dad and for the show.JMO.

Nancy said...

LMAO, Seriously! I never picked up on the irony of a fundie having the surname of "Query."

The guy does sniff around Josh's instagram on a regular basis. I also think RD, the guy who does the actual work at Josh's car lot, is single. I still don't think think any of those girls are leaving unless the Querys live within close driving distance, so a daughter can be picked up for Dog and Pony Show appearances. No way Jim Bob would allow any of his girls to marry Josh's employee, regardless of the fact he's running the place. It's not that great of a living; Jim Bob would be the first to know, if not admit, that.

As an adult female who found my mate entirely on my own, I find it incredibly offensive that someone would "allow" an adult woman to talk with an adult man or do more than talk with him for that matter.

Leah said...

Well I guess Jim Bob suddenly found perfect, God-inspired suitors JUST in time to keep his show going, now that his wife can't produce new material. Gee, the past 4 years he hasn't been able to find a single good man for his daughters, and now, lo and behold, here they are! What a "miracle". I bet Josh and Anna "suddenly" become pregnant for this season, too. That long space between Michael and this new pregnancy is just Gods timing, of course! Not intentional! These people are so transparent, it's embarrassing.

Bet Jim Bob marries off all the older girls in one shot (one quadruple wedding is very cost effective) now that Joy is old enough to do all the work. Poor Joy :(

It certainly appears they were saving the courting for the girls for the right time.JMO.

The girls have been on the Gothard lecture circuit (as well as speaking at Michelle's "tea" at the Vision Forum "Food Festival" earlier this summer) for about 6 months. Jessa was missing from a speech in Chicago (Gothard HQ) with the excuse that she had to "teach." Translation: the kids are way behind their grade levels and need her to "pass' them after they've taken a test 10 times online.

Jill was missing from one because she'd delivered a baby. I think Jana has to be there for a certain amount of time, but hey, chaperones are expendable when there's a buck to be made because the Duggar girls are billed to speak in San Antonio!

At any rate, I can't see any of these girls being expendable, or Michelle might actually have to do something more than spout Gothardisms, take naps and spin on her gym-worthy elliptical.

Now that I think about it---- All of the girls - except Jana seemed to be pursuing a career. (Jill- midwifery Jinger- Photography). Maybe she has began courting? If so, they did a FANTASTIC job keeping it a secret... lol

Re: "Lord I hope not. They look like they are enjoying being single."

TOTALLY agree! Let it be on THEIR time, based on where their hearts are and interests lie, versus being on JimBob's timeline.

Most of us regular, run-of-the-mills conservatives wouldn't consider this option, either :)

Not sure living in indentured servitude on mom and dad's dime qualifies as 'being single'.

I'm holding out hope for a Seven Brides for Seven Brothers episode.

"I'm holding out hope for a Seven Brides for Seven Brothers episode"

Hilarious!

If JimBob thought there was $$$ in it, he'd orchestrate this on-camera drama for his eldest daughters quick'r'n you can say "hypocrit".

sandi said...

The Duggars are much more liberal than I am,in that regard.I'd never consider selling out my family's privacy for a paycheck.JMO.

londonbridges said...

I'm not sure that the eldest female blessings enjoy being single either. Just because JimBob and Michelle tell us that the girls love being "sister-mommies" doesn't make it so. JMHO.

Rudy Tecat said...

The fact that they're devoting a whole episode to Anna's sister's wedding should tell us that there's no Duggar wedding in the works.

I'm calling it now - this will be the final season. There is nothing left. The adult Duggar daughter’s will be held captive in their parent’s home for at least the next decade, there is no hope for them, outside of marrying a like-minded crazy and reproducing. We have all seen Jim Bob and Michelle for the crazies that they are. No one in their right mind gives birth to a serious sick child who ends up in the NICU and says with a straight face they would welcome another child into the world if it was "God's will." Did not one Doctor or Nurse infer or directly say to them: “This child is not well, because you are well past the age of having a healthy, complication free pregnancy.” Or are they so self-righteous as to believe this not to be the case? It’s shocking to me that the show continued after the Josie fiasco . . . add to that the still birth of a 20th child, it’s just too much. I will admit, I have personally contributed to the show continuing to exist. I have watched it and I’ve come to this and other message boards and commented.

Also, I wanted to clearly state that there is such a thing as natural birth planning. It’s calling monitoring one’s cycle and refraining from copulating at one’s fertile time. This is a plan which lots of Christian prescribe to. Why have the Duggar’s never been asked why they do not practice this type of birth control?

I’m happy to report that I did not watch any new episodes after the announcement about baby number 20, but have occasionally watched reruns in the morning. So it’s my one small step towards the Duggar’s coming off the air.

It seems the Maxwell boy wedding got called of by a girl a week before. I hear only girls can call it off after they become engaged.

I wonder if Jana was and it got called off or even John. Jana seems so sad.

Nancy said...

From what I've learned about these arranged marriages, either side (ie. the Patriarchs) have the final say. Maybe Sarah Reith or the young lady ('s dad) who jilted the young men saw something THEY didn't like.

This mindset explains why Jana might be sad; there's a fairly credible source out there that claims Zach was turned down by Jim Bob. If Jana "shared her heart" with her parents, as Michelle always claims, Jim Bob's rejection and Zach's subsequent courtship could have easily sent her back to indoctrination camp to get her head set straight. The timing of Jana's second trip and a stint working at Gothard HQ coincides with the early days of Zach's official courtship. No way the Duggars wouldn't have known; both families are "close friends."

I really think Jana was screwed over in some way and that really pisses me off because she's probably the gentlest soul in the brood.

Betty said...

All we know for sure is that Jana went to that Journey this spring. No one has ever provided any proof that she worked at HQ. That was all pure speculation as far as I can see based on a single statement of Jana's that she was going to Illinois. She had to go to Illinois to go on the Journey. People had already been speculating for months that Jana was depressed long before Zach's failed courtship.

londonbridges said...

I've wondered what caused Jana to appear so sad. I agree that if she was screwed over, that is an absolute disgrace. She seems to be one of the gentlest Duggar women. I guess we'll never learn the truth. That is, unless JimBob and/or Michelle deem it okay to be told. And then I'm not sure I would believe them. JMNO

Beth Anne said...

Re: "I've wondered what caused Jana to appear so sad."

I hope with all my heart that she does not feel she is getting "old" by Duggar/Bates/Gothard standards for courtship or marriage. Remember, Michelle was 17 when she married, Josh 22, etc. Their "culture" seems to look positively upon young marriage and having babies right away, somewhat like the Mormon faith. I hope Jana knows that God loves and values her no matter what, and learns that she has so much to offer this world, beyond being a sister mom to her younger siblings or waiting to be "matched" by JimBob to some "worthy" dude.

Really? I find this hard to believe considering how close the two families are. What reason would Jim Bob give for turning down Zach Bates, the son of one of his best friend's? Although most people would see Jana and Zach as a likely pair, the two young people may really just have never connected. Jana seems very gentle and quiet. Sarah Reith was more of a outgoing girl. If that attracted Zach, maybe Jana really isn't his type. I think all of this is speculation at best.

As for the girls courting, this may or may not be true. If it is I would feel sorry for these girls. They could possibly be leaving their parents house just to go into their own and possibly begin their own family with no break in between to be young, single, and free.

Susanna said...

I think the "reliable source" was a troll on Free Jinger. ;)

imaamy said...

Maybe I'm missing the appeal of Zach? Most of the Bates' kids are very good looking, but he is just pudgy and oily looking. Why would the Duggar girls be attracted to him other than the background is right? I think they can do better...

Melissa said...

Actually, in my opinion, I think Zac would be a good choice for Jana. He seems very sweet and gentle. I think he would respect his wife and cherish her (unlike Joshie!) IMO, the Bates family are more "normal" than other "Gothard type" families. They let their kids play cards, and they watch some black and white movies. I was really turned off by the DavidlovesPriscilla website. I think the Waller's are a good family, but David makes a point of saying, "We follow conservative values...blah blah blah" He seems to me to put too much focus on their "good behaviors" rather than God's grace. Just saying. Either way, I hope that Jana finds a great guy (without her Dad's help!) and I hope that Zac heals and finds a great girl. He seems like a nice kid.

Does it seem to anyone else that "courtship" is really shallow, not modest at all? Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but it's not like these young men spend a great deal of time with the young women, so when God "puts it on his heart" to seek out a courtship, the only thing he REALLY knows about the person is that he is physically attracted to her (thinks she's pretty; thinks she's modest enough...it's all about the outside, just like the most "worldly" of men.)

Bates Fan said...

Zach does look like a sweet, gentle man. I jut watched the episode where several of the older Bates girls were away on that mission trip so the child care duties fell to the older Bates boys & Michaela (who was mostly busy babysitting someone else's child). Zach seemed patient while helping his little brothers match up the bucketfull of mismatched shoes. Not too many 23-yr-old men would take on a task like that when there was a sister who could do it instead.

Maybe Jim Bob turned down Zach as Jana's potential suitor b/c Zach and his family are in TN. A bit hard to control his son-in-law/daughter & family when they are so far away from the Duggarville compound.

tulip said...

I have to agree with Zach looking like a pretty good guy-yes, maybe a little pudgy, but personality-wise, it seems like there's a really decent guy in there, (when/or if he's allowed to mature.) He shows a lot of patience, and actually plays the big brother role as a part of the whole family, unlike Josh. When Josh went to "hold down the fort" during Josie's delivery, he immediately started throwing ego around, and made sure to tell the cameras he has to 'remind' all his siblings he's in charge, as 'the oldest',etc. Even Anna looked small next to her hubby's big head, taking everybody on his powertrip.

I wonder why Michaella couldn't/didn't go to Peru?

Jen said...

Michella has a paid nanny job outside of the Bates house. I bet that is why she did not go to Peru.
Maybe she was not interested in going. That could be another reason she did not go.

Nancy said...

Well, if the Bateses' "special announcement" isn't about the breakup of Zach and Sarah Reith (nothing "special" about that other than that people who saw the beginning of the courtship on Nightline, but are just casual followers were wondering what happened), it's the Paine boy with Erin.

I doubt it's Bates20, but then again, Kelly is even more fertile than Michelle Duggar, so who knows?

If the Paine boy isn't courting Erin, it's possible he's courting Jana. She looked pretty happy on the Today Show last week. Then again, she'd just returned home, with Jill, from yet another round of Indoctrination Camp, so maybe that was the cult smile still in place. But if it's not a red herring, it looks like Jana might be the one. Don't forget she spent some time in Chitown before going to the Camp back in the spring? The Paines work at Gothard HQ in the Chicago area.

Hmmm.....

Michaella didn't join her sisters for the Romania trip either. I got the impression she chose not to go on that one. No idea about Peru.
