I opened September early as I didn't want to begin this discussion six hours before closing August.

Michelle's latest parentables is on music.

In Duggars Down the Aisle.
I forgot something. Did anyone notice when Josie had a booger in her nose, Jackson used a bulb syringe to get it out and even chased Josie with the syringe? My kids always hated those things and it was a wrestling match if I ever used it and I didn't use it very much.
Why in the world would a small boy have to do such a thing? I am suspicious that the teenage girls really do delegate childcare and housework to their younger siblings, just like Michelle delegated it to them.

Ultimately, it all should go back to Michelle, but she doesn't seem to worry.

Also, the bus was seen in Florida, but how did the little kids and Jana get to Florida? Did they fly? I watched on my mobile and couldn't see very well.

sandi said...

Yes,it showed Jana and the others at the airport. So she not only had to get everyone properly packed, but she had the responsinility of getting them all thru the airport,on the plane, thru the flight and to their destination.whew, that makes me tired just thinking about it!

Sorry I coudnt see the episode clearly.

If they took a flight to Florida for their appearance at Anna's sisters wedding. What exactly was the motivation for including ALL Duggars (pre-wedding performance) and having the little boys in the wedding party? Someone previously mentioned that it should have just been Anna, Josh and their two kids. No one knew David.

I guess? David Waller and his baby voice condescending attitude on camera wants to be sometype of TV preaching B list celebrity. Priscilla is going to do whatever he says so it wasn't her. Or did the TLC producers ask Jimbob to push the entire family in the Kellars wedding?

Someone in the know please explain why Jimbob and Michelle had the big bus in Florida without their brood so they had it in Florida but Jana had to take the kids on a plane.

How much did TLC pay for them to fly? Plane tickets for that cost more than the wedding itself. Priscilla should have demanded TLC pay for her wedding if they were going to use it for ratings, but I know she didn't. The Duggars made money of the wedding what did Priscilla get?

Sounds like TLC production. We all know that Jimbob does whatever they come up with. Instead of "the Lord laid it on my heart to .. .. . . ." He should say "TLC laid it on my heart to . . . . . " Jimbob needs to man up against TLC why does he not?

I think this was during the time the Duggars were following Santorum around. So they were already out in the bus at that time.I am not sure how close to FL they were though.
I don't know about the rest;I think Nancy said it looks like David and Priscilla got aa new car with the tlc money though.
I'm guessing they wanted the exposure as well..I can only say you couldn't pay me enough to have the whole Duggar family come in and take over my wedding! This would have been much more veiwable if just Josh and Anna and their kids had attended,as likely would have been the case,if tlc hadn't been involved.JMO.

Somone asked a while ago about why Josh was in the wedding party... Apparently he and David were friends before he was engaged to Priscilla. On his website he states that he called Josh to obtain Priscilla's fathers phone number when he wanted to ask his permission to begin a courtship.

I seriously doubt that David and Priscilla got more than enough for a down payment on a car from TLC for being part of the cast in one episode.

=================================

Being anti-debt, they would have had to have saved up a lot of cash to buy that car. It looked new or if used, a couple of years old, tops. I still have the thing unwatched on the DVR, but it always cuts off during the final credits. If "David and Priscilla Waller" are listed, they got a check.

I have no idea how Josh could know the Wallers, unless they met at ATI camp. As far as I know, other than a RUMORED stint at either a boy's "Journey" or, more likely since he had a crew cut, the militant ALERT camp in Big Sandy, he (and his brothers) have had no contact with Gothard camps or activities, like every.one.of.the.girls.over.age.13.

That begs the question, do they send the girls to make them feel super guilty, needing more and more brainwashing to ensure they don't make a run for it with some secular (or even liberal Christian) guy?

Who knows? Once Jim Bob runs of of businesses and houses to give to his under-educated sons, I expect they too will be sent to these camps to keep them from seeking their fortune elsewhere.

Stephanie said...

The bus could have been on the campaign trail. Nice timing that the little time Michele spent on Santorum overlapped to the Florida trip and she didn't have to pack and drag all the kids to Florida.

Josie pushing that chair on the ceramic tile was like nails on a chalkboard.

Boy taking laundry basket in his shoes to stand on the table was unnecessary.

Regarding David asking Josh for Mr. Kellars phone #. Exactly how does that work. You meet someone at ATI, assume they have the same beliefs as you, and you ask them to start courting? What are the signals young people give off that they like each other since they aren't allowed to flirt? Wouldn't a courting relationship be based on physical attraction to someone? You see a pretty girl, you go to like-minded church so you "court"? The Duggar girls are pretty, why wouldn't a boy have already called Jimbob? Has he turned anyone away? He doesn't really read emails and consider them does he?

I feel sorry for the girls, the only boys they really meet is ATI. To bad none of the Santorum campaign workers etc fell for one of them.

John David is a lost cause.

The middle boys are now interested in being camera men?

I thought it was strange that Jana was IN the wedding, and yet she went later with the younger kids. Didn't really seem to make sense.

However, I do recall that Priscilla has spent a lot of time with the Duggars on mission trips and also at their house. They may not know David, but they certainly know Priscilla and she may have wanted to include them in the wedding.

Or they were in the wedding so they'd have a legit reason to film the wedding, and promote their "way of life." Also a possibility....

Penny said...

When you watch the wedding on David and Pricilla's website you see there were several families that provided enertainment before the wedding. Erin Bates played the piano while Alyassa and Tori sang. How do they know Pricilla and David? They along with some of their brothers had joined the Duggars in South Carolina to campaign for Santorum and guess they went with them to the wedding.

Nancy said...

Priscilla was Jana's (and the other 3 girls') "team leader" the first time they went to Indoctrination Camp...errr....Journey to the Heart a couple of years ago. Apparently, the two of them forged a close bond. Aside from Anna, she's the only Duggar who I could really see being a part of the wedding party.

The Duggars have been quite busy these past few days. On Friday, there were several documented sightings of Duggars with film crew and the "Banana Man," Ray Comfort "street preaching" (Anna's words) on the U of Arkansas campus. In one picture, Justin can be seen with those cheesy fake $100 bill gospel tracts (also used to still waitresses, who need to be "saved" more than feed their families or if a college kid, pay their rent). Lots of pics with defrauding sorority girls in short-shorts and tank tops.

Speaking of tops, Dear Duggars, please let Joy get some bigger tops. She is not built like her sisters and is busting - literally - out of everything she's been wearing of late.

They also went to the Arkansas football game Saturday night. I'm sure cameras were there as well and this is going to be made into a "look, the Duggars aren't hostile to college and they'd send their kids here. REALLY!!!!!!!11"

Tonight, yet ANOTHER "date night" for Josh and Anna (do they ever eat at home). The menu at this Cajun chain place just about gave me a coronary just reading it. If you get a chance, check out the "shadow" pic on his Instagram. He looks like the Blob. No shape to speak of. At least Anna, in the one pic I saw of her street preaching, seems to have lost most of the extra weight she was carrying around. Then again, she eats more meals at home than her husband.

Stephanie said...

Regarding these fake $100 bill/tracts:
Are you saying they leave these for a tip instead of real money? Say it ain't so!

Stephanie said...

I watched Duggars Down the Aisle again.

Mr. Kellar, before the first kiss, explained that David & Priscilla were setting a "higher standard" by not kissing until they were married. Exact words and it really says it all doesn't it?

The most words I have ever heard John David speak. He was telling David Waller about his genius acting job pretending to lose Anna's ring during their wedding and jumping off the stage and running out. He was so proud of his little immature moment of attention. That really says a lot.

We focus so much on the girls but John David really is a sad case. He's so awkward. Honestly, how does he stand being 22 years old with never a girl around nor a private bedroom or moment to himself? Maybe he can use the so-called "prayer closet" to have a moment to himself.

What ever happened to the prayer closet?

I'm sure it was perfect timing on Michelle's part to 'need' Jana to care for, pack up, be responsible for several little blessings, airport, etc. That is a huge undertaking. But, I forgot, Jana just loves to take care of her mother's blessings. It's been stated here before that one can carry and birth a child, but that does not make one a mother. JMHO.

Happy Labour Day to my fellow Canadians! Travel safely.

From what I know, it would be the two getting to know each other without making it clear to eachother/others that they are interested in eachother. It's kind of like when teenagers/kids have a crush on someone yet refuse to tell said person that they like them... If they get to know the person and feel "like the Lord is leading them" then they go to ask the Fathers permission, and then get to know eachother better. Anna did mention that before David and Priscilla started courting, that Priscilla threw his name around quite a lot, so maybe the courtship isn't as "arranged" as a lot of people assume.

It's not but you'd have to know lots about the history. I became intrigued and delved into some Christian books, as well as the most infamous courtship, Ruth and Boaz, OKJV. There are lots of ways to let someone know you are interested them. The biggest difference is if they aren't picking up what you're putting down, you move on, you don't look at it as a challenge and force yourself on them.

Ok blogging friends, I was watching Harry Potter #6 this weekend and there was a line in it that made me think of the Duggars "guarding your heart". This is spoken by an old wise man and Headmaster of the school. A 16 year old boy says his true loves name while very sick and breaks the heart of the girl he has been kissing for 3 months.
Old Dumbledore says "Oh to be young and feel loves keen sting"
I take it as an adult looking at teenage drama and remember going through crushes and first boyfriends/girlfriends and how fun that is when you are young. Even if it seems to break your heart, you are just a teenager and will recover.
As adults, we don't get those butterflys but I am glad I went through that in high school. It is a sting but you live and learn from it. Something you just can't feel as a grown up.

Josh has to post 16 pics of the game on Instagram, including one of his ticket bragging #goodseat...seriously? The "shadow" picture of Josh & Anna on date night should be a big wake up call for him, since his weight problem is even more evident then ever-just a big blob void of any shape for a body topped off by a pinhead. All that, plus more useless pics showing the weather and the sky, but never did end up wishing Josiah a happy 16th bday.

Priscilla is expecting.

Nancy said...

Didn't see the Priscilla announcement coming. NOT! Heck, I called it on the wedding post.

David filmed that footage sometime in July, which would fit in with his "five months of marriage" line. Not surprisingly, this is when people started to suspect that she had a bit of a bump.

Since they (he) didn't announce a due date, I suspect she's farther along than they're leading us to believe, especially if one missed the "five month" bit, which could have been filmed as much as 2 months ago, given they were married in early February and it's now early September. I suspect she's even more than 3 months along now, more like 4 looking at her pictures.

imaamy said...

The clip of Priscilla's cutesy pregnancy announcement was one long 40 seconds! David is more annoying to me than Josh. And showing it on the bed? Like we are supposed to associate that with where the blessed event happened? Ick.

Andrea said...

There is something deeply creepy and wrong about David loves Priscilla’s most recent blog entry about the child Priscilla is currently expecting. Anyone else feel the same way? The entire post is written about how children are a blessing and they are thankful that their parents choose to have them. I hate to be a naysayer, but do they not realize, if their parents didn’t give life to them they won’t exist, but won’t know they don’t exist so it won’t matter. The entire post is defending their Duggar / Gothard lifestyle when it’s not necessary. I mean, the couple is newly married, of course they’re going to try to have children. Also, not sure if anyone else watched the accompanying video but at the end David says the following: “When we allow him (God) to choose the size of our family, he chooses best.” OMG – David: can you just come out of the closet already. I mean, he has the speech patterns of a 14 year old girl.

tulip said...

That video of David sharing the baby news IS creepy. He sounds as if he's talking to a group of kindergarteners, and his voice sounds like a preprogrammed Gothard voicebox. And I agree, seeing him sitting on their bed with the 'present' made me cringe-why didn't they make the announcement together? It's like David was in charge of breaking the news, and showing off that after only "5 months of marriage", he could boast mission accomplished-he was able to make a baby.

I saw the link to his brother Adam and wife Valerie's site, so decided to take a peek. Yikes! Adam looks like a figure in a wax museum, and Valerie looks like she could pass for his sister. Of course, I checked out the "you may kiss the bride" pic, and no surprise, it looks the same as the others who 'took the higher ground and chose to wait'-a huge face plant, holding on aggressively for dear life...gross. Plus, it's so boring how all the weddings look the same-same short-sleeved, basic wedding dress & simple vail, same bridesmaid dresses (just different colors) and same poses for all the pictures. Adam & Valerie made sure to describe their reception as only having "light refreshments"-as if anyone cares. These couples also have a tendency to brag about how many guests were in attendance-Josh did, David as well. Adam posted over 500 guests were present at their wedding. These guys all seem to be in some kind of competition, as was evidenced by Josh's immature behavior when he realized Dave & Cil's wedding was a step up from his & Anna's.

Hrrrrrmph. I was right in suspecting Priscilla was farther along than a video posted in early September with a bow-wrapped pee stick would make one think

From his blog (let's be honest, she has nothing to do with it):

David Waller September 6, 2012
Thanks for asking! Our due date is March 9.

Conception calendar puts that around early/mid-June. I guess the three Keller girls I've seen pregnant show almost immediately with their first because they're so skinny.

Yes,David's comments were definitely a slap in the face to those of us who use birth control.I'm a Christian as well,as I waited 6 years to have my first one. There is not once ounce of guilt there...I feel I have the kids God wanted me to have.I don't feel any less blessed. If these ppl wold stop to think for a minute,we don't have it all under our human control as much as we would like to think.According to MY bible,it was ALL ordained before time began.

What these people need to think about is first that God gave us common sense and expects us to use it. I think we all know the rowboat story. It seems the Gothardists need to have it explained in great detail.

Second, I doubt God wants his blessings treated like the Gothards do with the parents barely knowing who their own children are sometimes, poor quality food, food rationing, not enough rooms in the house, etc. I think some of them may not get the reward that they are expecting.

Elvira said...

I should have included for mistreating God's blessings in that last comment.

Here's the video from Street Preachin' Day at the university.

To spare people from having to watch that nutjob Ray Comfort any more than necessary, the Duggar section begins around 17:40, complete with those stupid money tracts.

Again, skip to 17:40 to see the preachin' and hang in there to ascertain the method they use to win souls. Or at least try. One young lady gave Jim Bob quite the smackdown and he refused to take a picture with her. However, Michelle did. Confirmed that she's 5'2", tops.

Just saw that video about the baby on the way for the Wallers. He's kind of creepy with that really quiet voice and weird little smile. Obviously rehearsed, but it just came off as totally fake. Maybe it's just because he is totally feminine too and that is throwing me for a loop.

Ray Comfort is ultra annoying, not to mention egotistical-he and the Duggars definitely seem one in the same. And the video they're making?-calling it 19 kids & Preaching, "if TLC allows it" (good luck Ray.) In one of the pictures they show of the whole family, I had to pause-was that Josh in the back wearing the green v-neck? Wowza, I've never seen him looking so super-sized.

Josh's Instagram=Nauseating. Pics of the kids at Chik-fil-a (of course) & eating (of course), Anna praising Josh for his day with the kids, and someone posting a comment requesting Josh & Anna write a book since they're so spectacular in marriage & parenting...oh help us all.

Yes, the David Waller video made me vomit in my mouth a little. I get it that some people give the pee stick as a gift to their husband, but this guy makes it creepy.

Maybe I could not stand the video long enough to hear the Duggars talk at the street preaching thing. I saw from 17:40, and saw the kids handing out the money Tracks? I don't understand those things, come one its very misleading. Then the two hosts just went on to show pictures of their time with the Duggars, it was then that I stopped watching, Michelle and her fake laughing in the pictures makes me ill as well.

One more thing, why in the world is it called "witnessing" to someone? Why don't they just call it having a conversation about god, religion, Jesus, etc. ? Why Witnessing? They have not "WITNESSED" anything themselves. They were not there when Jesus was born, when God created Heaven and Earth, Adam and Eve (if thats what you believe). They were not there to see Christ on the cross and rise again. What are they a WITNESS to? I just have to know. It drives me nits every time I hear any of them say it.

Lets be real people (Duggars)! JMO

Re the pictures with the preacher as well as the mom and 2 kids they had to their home recently: I know the family is huge but styrofoam plates and cups for guests (not at a picnic) just seems tacky to me. The most I've had at my house is around 12 for dinner and I had to mix plates. I wonder if they don't have enough real dishes for that many people? At least a nicer (even recycled!) disposable would be an improvement.

From reading Adam & Valerie (Mueller) Waller's story, it seems like the lucky lady's siblings' view the Waller bachelors as the ultimate jackpot in the search for a husband. Valerie had two other siblings who also married this year. Wonder if anyone's pregnant yet? These weddings have to be so huge since they all come from big families and all the siblings have to be in the bridal party.

19 Kids & Counting has become boring. I think it's time for TLC to stop the regular filming, and go to occasional specials to update us on the family.

I have the same opinion of United States of Bates (what a stupid name for a show), even though their show just got started.

Both families are too much alike for there to be two shows anyway.

sarah taylor said...

My husband might vomit if I gave him a pee stick as a present!!!!

I personally believe that God gives us gifts... One of those gifts was a BRAIN. Another one of those gifts was FREE WILL and the ability to use ones BRAIN to best decide how to live ones life. Using birth control to prevent pregnancy is not killing anyone or anything in most cases with "most" types of contraception.

This being said, If one is to believe that God is the creator of ALL THINGS great and small then are we supposed to believe that God could not possibly cause a pregnancy if he wanted to regardless of the use of contraception? To me that is an insult to the power of God.

In addition, what happenned to the Duggar party line that the misscarraige of their second child was some kind of punishment for using birth control....? If that were true what were they being punished for with Josie and more recently Jubilee? Those statements always made me sick and I have always found them to be very insulting to women who have misscarraiges, pre-term deliveries and such.

For the record IMHO, David Waller is way more creepy than Joshy. Joshy is a gross pig of a little boy in a somewhat grown mans body. David waller has an inbred, baby voiced, creepy behavior to everything he does. I would venture to say that he is Perhaps still in the closet.
Lets just say i wouldn't be trusting him to watch my kids. He kind of has a white Michael Jackson thing going on.

TLC really needs to stop scraping the barrrel. Find somthing decent and normal. now we have the Duggars followed by a show about conjoined twins...

I feel sad for these girls; and I don't like the way TLC is exploiting them. My biggest problem with that show is their voices. When they start constantly squealing and speaking at the same time something about the tone gives me a migraine. It has happenned both times I watched the show.

I can't understand why THE LEARNING CHANNEL can't put something more useful on.

I understand a reality show can help a family financially, but it certainly isn't worth losing your way and turning into something unlikable!

I think about how much different (better) the Duggars were years ago.

I agree with those that say both these families should do a yearly special. It would seem like TLC would give them a decent amount of money for a yearly special. That would help the families financially and bring in good ratings because most of us would want to check in once a year.

Agreed! Also have to wonder about the eldest Bates son who was so completely inept at proposing that stupid courtship idea to his intended. Ick.

These males are kept completely immature and uneducated yet are then deemed Patriarchs, expecting even the smartest women to unquestioningly subjugate herself to a completely unprepared male partner. RIDICULOUS on so many levels.

Is it just me or could these newlyweds pass for siblings just like David's "stiff as a wax figure" brother Adam & wife Valerie? Why do they need to have all the siblings & all their spouses in the wedding party? I think I spotted one of the bridesmaids (bride's sister or sis-in-law) with a streak of unnatural colour in her hair.

Marrying off a gay son to squelch rumours has been done for many years so the parents can maintain their fine upstanding reputation in society. The smiles on the wedding photos look fake & forced. If Priscilla does suspect something is up, maybe she thinks she'll change him.

I predict someone in this circle of families will break free and write a tell-all, behind the scenes expose. Jinger, Josiah & Joy-Anna are at the top of my list of whistleblowers. Maybe it's just that teenaged phase of butting heads with authority, but they are the ones that don't seem to fit into the cookie cutter gender roles

The Bateses seem like a good, genuine Christian family so I hope this newfound celebrity doesn't ruin that. I am enjoying the new show but after seeing so many episodes of the Duggars, alot of the same ideas (like taking the boys to the dentist)get repeated.

Correct me friends, can't you become an RN in two years if you go to school full time? Wouldn't becoming a mid-wife take just a few months of classes, on the job training hours and a final exam? Why is it taking Jill 3 years to become a certified midwife?

I think they want to just be a self proclaimed mid wife and realize the public relations nightmare that would come along if they try to lie about it.

What exactly does John David do to earn a living? How much did Santorum pay him to play crummy guiter for a month?

John David John David, I feel most sorry for you. And your mother should have taught you to take off your hats while at the table, eating, and indoors in general. They make them wear those ridiculous shirts tucked in 2nd hand pants with cell phone belt hooks and cheap black plastic watches like their mother wears.

By the way Jimbob, why don't you buy your wife a nice ladies watch for her birthday, anniversary, Christmas, at one of your favorite pawn shops. For someone who prides herself on being ultra feminine, Michelle your black plastic watches are very butch.

tulip said...

They keep saying Jill & Jana are doing "their midwife training", which means just that-NOT in school taking classes to become registered nurses. One can get an RN in 2 years going the associate degree route, but they would have to do an additional program after that to become a Certified Nurse Midwife. These girls can becone a midwife without being an RN (so not a Certified NURSE Midwife). Last I heard, I thought they were doing more 'doula' type training/work-technically different, yet again. At any rate, I don't think any of them will really describe, in detail, exactly what education/training they're really doing because none of it involves any actual college coursework and degree-therefore avoiding the criticism regarding Gothard, college, women having a career outside the home, etc.

I think Michelle has always worn that black plastic watch-I remember it in some of the earliest episodes. IMO, the watch suits her 'man hands' just fine, lol. She has very unfeminine, wrinkly and big looking hands. She also continues to wear the same outfits time and time again-Duggar Growing Pains episode at the speaking engagement? Same black skirt and royal blue (maternity looking-style) shirt from 2 years ago. Must be her "professional" look.

4. Practical experience required by Arkansas (no details) notarized by person you are working with. Doesn't say how many hours
5. Take and pass State exam with 75 or higher. Test is offered several times a year you get 3 tries. If you fail 3 times you have to take practical hours again.

I don't see any type of classroom study ect. To get your insurance license in Virginia you have to take a class of so many hours and pass the class before you are even eligible to take state exam.
The Duggars have steps 1, 2, and 3. Practical seems awfully time consuming unless they are having trouble passing the state exam. Doesn't sound that hard honestly so Michelles kitchen table school should be sufficent.

Midwife Apprentice is different
1. Take online courses (and that sounded kinda optional)
2. Attend roughly 20 births
3. Ask hospital for a midwife who is willing for you to tag along
4. Attend friends and family members births and count them towards your hours
5. Join Mana - an organization that supports midwives.

Midwife apprentice sounds like a hobby or hand holding type position. No HS diploma, no CPR class, No notary of your training, no proof of your health, and more importantly no state board exam to have to pass.

I am starting to think the Duggars homeschooling is so terrible they couldn't get through real college courses. Can you imagine English Composition? They would have to read books and write papers? History classes, college math, biology. I actually don't think they are prepared for real college classes. But sad fact is they aren't even allowed to try.

What the heck is Joseph doing? Josiah just turned 16 did they say he was finished with high school. Do all homeschoolers sit for the GED or is there some type of homeschooling test? I heard the GED is not easy.

It is too bad the Duggars would likely not have the skills to get into any college. That was probably the whole purpose of the SOTDRT-keep them uneducated enough that they will never be able to leave the compound. However, if a Duggar really wanted out, he or she could probably take a few years of remedial skills classes, maybe test for a real GED, not a Gothard-based diploma, and then begin some classes towards a major and see how they do. I think it would be really hard because there must be a heck of a lot of catching up to do. No science, very little math, and the English and grammar skills we have seen are atrocious. Yet, there are classes at the technical colleges that help with this very type of problem to get adults ready for the real world.

An apprentice midwife works with a midwife. As an apprentice midwife, she could be the first responder and be able to check dilation, monitor baby's position, maternal and fetal heartbeat so when the miidwife arrives, she can inform her of how labour is progressing.

The Duggars do get GEDs. At least through Jessa we were shown that they did. In the US, they would go to what is called a community college for remedial work needed to begin to pursue a degree. The GED is maybe the equivalent of 10th grade for many high schoolers. That is more than sufficient to begin community college at the low entry level.

I'm still unclear about the details: Do homeschool graduates receive a recognized diploma, and if so, is it from the state, or who/what provides it, or do they need to take and pass the GED to be acknowledged as a "high school graduate" (hence the GED being their high school diploma-when it comes to applying for jobs, going to college, etc.)? Are there different mandates for homeschooled graduates depending on each state, or is the GED the culmination for them, nationally speaking?

Do the Duggars even GET IT that, when used improperly (squeezing the air out rather than using the suction to dislodge nasal matter) can actually predispose to nasal/sinus infection???

Doubtful at best, IMO.

Josh's instagram pics over the last 24 hours indicate that he and Anna are off to somewhere in Asia.

TLC has to be filming this because there's no reason that they would just go off like this to a culture they have absolutely no connection with. They're not missionaries; Josh is quite happy at home where there's a Chick-fil-A on every block. What is not known is whether the entire family went or if this is a "second honeymoon" for Josh & Anna.

I hope it's the latter, only because Asia is far more unhealthy for Josie than Europe or Israel.

I just read that the entire family is going to China and Japan.

Guess the series isn't dead yet.

Tulip, different states have different laws and options. In some states you can register with an umbrella type school where they handle all the paperwork and testing. Plus they have enrichment classes and sports. In my state, you graduate with a highschool diploma if you go this route. I went to a graduation this past June and it was huge and pretty much every graduate was going to college or start a career.

In my 17 years experience, most do not. A small percentage take the ACT or SAT.

Do homeschool graduates receive a recognized diploma, and if so, is it from the state, or who/what provides it, or do they need to take and pass the GED to be acknowledged as a "high school graduate" (hence the GED being their high school diploma-when it comes to applying for jobs, going to college, etc.)?

Graduating can be handled many different ways. The parents can keep their own transcripts to show completion of work. There are umbrella schools as another poster mentioned. There are accredited correspondence high schools that keep track of all course work completed and issue their school's diploma once credits are earned. Some homeschoolers are very successful. The SH National Spelling Bee, ACT and SAT scores show some homeschoolers OUTperform their peers. Not all homeschooled children end up short changed.

==================================

Last things first, the GED is on par with the course load of a typical 9th grader. In CA, 10th graders take an exit exam that allows them to graduate from HS (early, on time, late, whenever they pass it); it's on par with the GED. No big shakes.

Last summer, the Duggars hosted a big shindig for the graduations of Jinger and Joseph (and a couple other kids). It was not indicated what they graduated FROM, however all the older Duggars got GED's when they were about 17, including Jessa. I just can't see Joseph even doing that level of work; he's never stricken me as being the sharpest tool in the box, more of a savant.

It's official: Josh posted from his hotel in Tokyo and the Holts (shown in the very first special...Jim Holt's extra lawn signs have been used as psuedo sleds on subsequent episodes) confirmed that they're also headed to China.

I am dying to see how Jim Bob parading his 19 kids around a country with a one child policy (and lots of girls in orphanages since boys are prized as the "chosen" child) will go over.

They don't live evangelicals much either.

As for Japan, I can just picture those kids desecrating Buddhist shrines and Jim Bob telling people crowded into tiny apartments in Tokyo and Bejing how they really have a ton of space since they all could theoretically fit into Jacksonville!

I feel for the people of Japan and China who didn't ask for this.

Sharla said...

It may be only Josh's family in China. I hope that's true.

Also, on the Duggar website it's advertising that Gothard's basic seminar is now available in Chinese. Perhaps that's the connection with Josh and co. going to China. I can't imagine that Josh is going to be much of an ad for Gothardism to the Chinese. How is he going to do "mission work" where proselytizing is frowned upon and in many ways illegal?

David Waller made a new post today, so I guess he and Pricilla did not go to Japan. Before the baby announcement he had posted their trip to Oklahoma. They went by Josh and Anna's first. I'm wondering if maybe David and Pricilla had planned to go to Japan/China and with Pricilla being in early stages of pregnacy did not want to go and maybe Josh and Anna took their place-just speculating.

I don't think the girls would be allowed to move out, without benefit of marriage. That goes against the ATI rules.A woman is under a man's authority until she marries, meaning, she must live with her parents until then.

I looked under ATI Homeschool and IBLP's websites. Where does it state this? I couldn't find anythng that states it.

tulip said...

Penny's speculation could be right-maybe Josh & Anna did take a trip that was originally intended for David & Priscilla. Are the kids staying at the compound? IMO, Josh is in no way equipped for China-it is not the place where one just decides to drop in for a visit while hoping to spread the Gospel. Maybe it's just a trip for them-lounging around in a hotel and eating out appears to be much more suited to him anyway.

Sharla said...

As shown on Josh's Instagram, the children are with them.

tulip said...

Oh, the kids are with them. Guess I shouldn't have put it past them that they would take their little ones on an ultra-extended airline flight, to a foreign country for who knows how long. Poor Mackynzie couldn't even handle being a flower girl for a couple minute walk down the aisle at Priscilla's wedding, because it apparently interfered with "nap time"...Wonder how nap time's going now...I think little Mackynzie will be adding 'jetlag' to her vocabulary.

Sharla said...

All of the Duggars are on the trip well minus Amy. They've been spotted.

Josh only showed his kids in the hotel room on his Instagram. But as Sharla mentioned, the entire family has officially been spotted in Tokyo.

I never bought that it was a "mission trip" for Josh and Anna. They enjoy their TLC-funded, cushy life too much. Being a missionary, even the Gothard type which is done under very controlled conditions, requires some actual....work.

Patrice said...

Do they fly commercial or does TLC charter a jet for them? I could not imagine getting on even a domestic flight with that motley crew. I wonder if the flight attendants have to hand out Valium to the rest of the passengers? Or do they warn people ahead of time and let them choose another flight?Seriously I could imagine the howlers running up and down the aisle, Michelle squeaking in her toddler voice about "purposing" to sit still, and none of them listening to her, Josh and JB smugly handing out family pictures and Bible tracts to one and all, and Jill judging the women who don't meet the Gothard standards of propriety. yikes, I'll take the next flight, thanks...

All the Duggars spotted in Tokyo? I can just imagine Jim Bob making a fool out of himself, something culture related-And Josh as well, most likely at one of the restaurants, and ending up insulting someone. I guess this means Josie too? What happened to 'protecting' her, as she was a micro-preemie? Still not even 3 years old. Sad, considering the last episode we all saw her in (regardless that it was filmed months ago) she was crying, at the Dr. getting RSV shots, throwing up in the garbage can because her gag reflex got overstimulated, and still drinking bottles of special formula. Traveling-AGAIN-out of the country a good idea? These days, the Duggars look like they take everything for granted-their famous, over-inflated heads keep getting bigger & bigger. I see nothing but very poor examples set by these people.

That gag reflex for preemies isn't just micro-preemies, it goes as high as 37 weeks. If Michelle is lucky, it will get less severe as Josie gets older and by the time she's 7 it will get down to a "I don't feel too good" level followed by drinking some clear fluid and removing herself from the situation.

Regardless of any health issue Josie has that any other child may have, my point is I just don't see any reason that justifies why she should be traveling to different countries, in planes for hours & hours at a time with the stuffy air, germs, altitude changes, etc., (yes, I do know she got ear tubes). And hotels, different types of viruses in different parts of the world, etc.-but, then again, she did all this a year ago before she even turned two...that's when she supposedly "caught a cold", and had to stay behind not able to travel home on schedule with the rest of the family, all needing to be supervised by a Dr. Why take such risks? It seems to me, since she's supposedly been 'catching up', they assume she's out of the woods-if they didn't think that, why would they be toting her all over the globe? I still stand by Poor Example.

w/r/t the food, it's gone exactly as I predicted: Josh turned his nose up on breakfast fish the first morning and found "pizza and spaghetti" for a meal later in the day (the laminated menu of food can be seen on the table, like a placeemat).

Apparently, he's never paid his dinner bill with a tray before. What restaurant DOESN'T have a cash/credit card tray or "book?" He's eaten at some places that use real silver and plates; how paying this way has escaped him in the past, especially now that he's living high on the hog, escapes logic.

Earth to Josh: that's not a Japanese custom. I'm just afraid that the cadre of 12 year old girls who follow him on Instagram will think it is. :(

So the Duggars are in Asia. This is a sign that the show may still go on or maybe the annual Fall travel special. I must say these Duggars are fortunate for their relationship with TLC as they have advantages that most of us never will. One thing I wonder about is if and when the girls do marry will Jim Bob approve a man that can not afford them the same advantages that the reality tv life has? I can't imagine living such a cushy Arkansas life and then marrying into something meager. Maybe Jim Bob is holding out for the girls to be connected to some of the more prominent families in their circle.

When I was styling my hair, I discovered it's become tri-coloured like Michelle's. The front is a light colour and when I pull it back, it almost looks like I'm wearing some sort of fake hair piece. Serves me right for doing sun dye to bring out the red highlights.

Nancy said...

The intrepid Duggar spotter in Japan managed to talk to Jim Bob. Noted that Jana and Jessa were holding babies...Josh and Anna looked at the people like they were from Mars. Josh is indeed quite large in girth; existing on spaghetti, pizza and rice during this trip isn't going to help.

JB had Michelle (confirmed to have poor posture, almost humpbacked) pull some of their family picture tracts out of a stroller. The back of them reads:

Five things God wants you to know:

God loves you and has a plan for your life! .... John 3:16
You are a sinner. Romans 3:23
Where your sin came from. Romans 5:12
God's Price for your sin. Romans 6:23
Your way out. Romans 10:9
Will you Call Upon the name of thee Lord Jesus now and Ask Him to Save You and Give Him the "Steering wheel"of your Life?? John 3:3

So much SOTDRT fail; that last sentence is just awful.

Just wondering if they'll get in trouble if they hand those out to locals when they get to China? Not a big deal to give them to locals in Japan (although the people who saw them are from California), but doesn't China have laws regarding open proselytizing?

"Serves me right for doing sun dye to bring out the red highlights."

Sounds like attempting to bring out highlights is a BAD thing, and, so, warrants in some kind of punishment from god. Very Duggar-like thinking - the bad things that befall all of us are all OUR OWN FAULT and deserve god's punishment.

Wow. Just wow.

Nancy said...

Michelle's hair is only "tri-colored" because 1. it's loaded with product in the front, darkening it 2. "natural" (I think she colors it) color around the "bump-it" pouf in the back of the crown, and 3. lighter at the ends where the perm processing has fried her hair. Fried hair does not hold color for long because it is not porous.

The hair on the sides of the mullet doesn't look all that bad (save for the over-processing). She should cut it all to that length. It's still considered "long" and would look much more even in color and texture.

Oh, also wanted to add that Gothard now has a very special 4 week conference for young women. In it you'll learn:

Through this course you will discover how to:

• Overcome self rejection and resolve disabling fears
• Discover meaningful life purpose
• Become an effective soul winner and learn to make disciples
• Establish an intimate relationship with God and hear His voice through the Rhemas of His Word
• Recognize and renounce commonly believed lies
• Transform painful memories and restore broken relationships
• Get a jump-start on achieving your optimal weight as you learn important principles of health, exercise, and nutrition!!

No pressure to be attractive for the man God has for you, no siree. /eyeroll

With the number of young women who develop eating disorders and given that it was phrased as "optimal", not "Leanest", I think it's great someone cares enough to teach them the importance of health, exercise, and nutrtion. Whether secular or Christian, too many women think they have to look like the women on the cover of a magazine instead of having a natural figure, or a young mother doesn't realize what having a baby can do to her figure and tries to starve herself when what she needs to do is get exercise to tone the muscles.

Nancy said...

The point is, they assume their own parents are not capable of teaching their daughters how to eat well and get plenty of exercise.

The irony is, most of these families, unless they're farming, eat pretty poorly because they don't have the money the Duggars have to purchase quality foods. The Duggars have no excuses; they are just plain lazy in terms of their dietary habits. The only reason their daughters are thin is because they work so hard. They don't need to go to a gym for supplemental exercise, not that they'd ever join one. NIKE!

Also, while couched in terms of health, this is about attracting a husband. Gothard sees the attrition rate of this generation and he's doing all he can to keep them in the fold. He's always endorsed that young women be very slim. This can go two ways: the vanity and peer pressure of trying to keep oneself thin like most other teens and young women (if a girl is "bigger boned" like Joy this could be tough), vs. sin of gluttony.

From what I've read from women who have left the cult, there is HUGE peer pressure exerted on the girls to be stick thin. Jinger Duggar is pretty much the ideal, as were the Keller girls prior to their marriages. We'll see if Pris plumps up like Anna/Esther or stays skinny like Rebekah after her baby is born.

However, since this retreat is about how a girl needs to look in order to catch a husband, what a woman looks like after the wedding is relinquished from the control of the father and Gothard, who is the ultimate arbiter for those who adhere to his "teachings," to the headship of the husband. It does seem that most of these women work really hard and can maintain a fairly youthful body appearance after having a lot of kids, which ostensibly keeps the husband interested.

Gothard really doesn't care what you eat or how much you exercise. It's all about how to look to attract a man (although he's not supposed to be looking at the girl's body). Why is there no retreat like this for young men? THAT is why I smell a big, sexist rat here.

Leah said...

It's great that the girls are being taught to be healthy and reach an optimal weight, as long as the boys are being taught the very same thing. Somehow I doubt it. Men don't have to worry with being attractive in their culture, only women.

Sorry, it's not about health. It's about sex. That's what it all boils down to.

re: Gothard's 'optimal weight': apparently Joshie was absent the day they covered this one.....OR, as usual, in Gothardom is all the burden of 'optimal' weight placed upon the womenfolk?

But my personal fave is, "Become an effective soul winner and learn to make disciples" - such arrogance to believe others require (or even want) YOUR help to get/keep their soul righteous. It is attitude like this that many find so completely offputting about people like the Duggars.

mom in texas said...

Rarely do I comment on the beliefs of Gothard and his followers because in general I think a person is entitled to believe what he wants so long as it doesn't harm others, but the notes from this upcoming conference disturb me on so many levels. Why are girls being given man-made rules on how they should look? "Optimal weight"? Seriously? This makes me sad to think the length some of these girls will go to be considered desirable. So what if a young lady is incapable of reaching an optimal weight? Is she deemed "useable" to these people? Or maybe she is doomed to be a stay at home daughter for life? One thing that rubs me the wrong way is the cookie cutter thinking, that all people are and will be just alike so all the same rules apply to everyone. As with so many other beliefs of this group, it once again falls on the female to make sure she is perfect yet men like Josh can let him self go and no one bats an eye. I guess Anna's weight is to blame as to why they haven't produced any more children. This takes me back to when poor, thin, young Jana was attending Weight Watchers with her parents. For her to think that she had a weight issue saddens me. If love is about your countenance and God's direction then looks and weight shouldn't be a factor at all.

Gothard/Duggar Think 1- Commandments is easily summarized:
1. If it's fun or if it stirs emotion, unless it's literal (Gothard interpretation ONLY) biblical, it is sinful and to be avoided lest you receive the god-given punishment you deserve. And its corollary:
2. Whenever something bad happens in your life, you have only to look in the mirror for its root cause: bad occurrences are always the direct result of your OWN misbehavior/poor decision making.
3. Women, listen up: your job on this planet is simply to check your intelligence at the front door so that you can be unfailingly and unquestioningly obedient to your Patriarch, be it your father, your husband, your brother, your uncle, your .... no matter how distant the relationship, yours, women, is to be joyfully subservient to any male.
4. Again, women: NEVER, EVER say 'honey, I have a headache 2night', for your husband's unfaithfulness will then be solely YOUR fault. Sex on demand. No exceptions.
6. Women: keep your own weight 'optimal' - again, if your husband has a straying eye, it is YOUR fault for being unattractive to him.
7. Never criticize any man - it is not your right as a woman. No matter if he is fat, bald, sloppy and stupid. God wants all women to be under the thumb of any and all men, so turn a blind eye to his many faults, including his own failing to remain at his own 'optimal' weight. You are lucky he chose you and if you want to keep him, listen up.
8. It is YOUR job, women, to keep your males from temptation. If (when) the males associated with you fall to the temptation of lust, it is YOUR fault for failing to adequately protect him from those "Nike!" moments. Pay attention lest you be cheated upon, and rightly so.
9. Gotta keep the women too busy to ask questions so, women: keep the sex and babies coming. If you want to keep your husband (and ALL women require the leadership of a man), you must fluff his pathetic ego at every opportunity, including giving him as many quivers as your body will allow, so that your husband may have the Gothard-stye locker room bragging rights, "Here's my woman and my bizllion kids (aka 'what a MAN am I!')".
and finally
10. Avoid at all costs real education. Real education leads to critical thinking skills, and, since Gothard logic is built on sand, critical thinking is a deep deep threat to its construction. I, Gothard, will tell you all you need to know, and do not sin in pride by thinking you want/need/deserve real education. A smart, educated person is one who will, no doubt, lead others to question, which will bring down my whole house of cards. Trouble. Right here in River City. Right here in your town. In your very home. And the troubled will all be YOUR fault for being so prideful as to question MY (aka god) preaching.

Reapeat until your head explodes due to lack of logic.

Mom in Texas: AMEN! That this conference doesn't exist for young men says a lot about the prevailing culture of patriarchy in Gothardism. The onus, blame and guilt are ALWAYS put onto the female's shoulders, from an early age if you observe what happened to Joy the moment she hit puberty.

Gothard said as much in his remarks to David and Priscilla (remarks he refused TLC to even record). He knows that to put his real message to women, even Christian women, in a wider sphere of secular television, would trigger a lot more questions about what he's all about. And with Gothard it's his rules first, complete with his twisted interpretations of scripture to defend his warped worldview.

Just listening to the Duggars illustrates how incorrectly they interpret the bible; to question any of it would be going against Gothard, and guilted as they all are (but especially the girls), going against their conception of God.

Strongly agree with the posters here re: conferences for young women, rules and regulations of
Gothard, etc. I wonder where this verse in the Bible stands with Mr. Gothard. 'Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.'? It seems to me that Gothardites value 'outward' appearances very much, not only the 'optimal' weight issue, but also hair styles, clothes etc. JMHO,

tulip said...

I have to agree as well that there is pressure on appearance. The girls, including Anna, have really gotten into wearing lots of makeup. They also seem like they need to always have their hair styled, curled, accessorized, etc. When Joy Anna was done up in this way for the most recent photo shoot, you could see right on her face that it just wasn't her. I have yet to see Anna, the stay-at-home mom that she is, have her hair pulled back in a basic, unstyled ponytail, like many of us moms have done just because it's a hard day, or we don't have the time to care about our hair-it's like Gothard women don't have a choice to not care, they've still got to plug in that curling iron and spend the time to look "pretty" no matter what.

As far as "optimal" weight goes, it seems the same. There was an episode a while back where Jim Bob, Michelle, and Jana went to a Weight Watcher's meeting. Michelle mentioned that Jana has gone in the past because she really wants to stay on top of things and be healthy. That really stuck out to me because Jana is in no way overweight! Even if she thought she needed to lose a few pounds, it certainly didn't look like it, by any means.

Meanwhile, if the men are overweight, they get to joke about it, just like Jim Bob did in the most recent episode when he stepped on the scale. Josh has had his fair share of joking about his weight, yet doesn't seem to be doing anything about it-except maybe gaining more.

This article may explain why Jim Bob didn't go farther in politics: he refused to actually discuss the issues, preferring instead to parade his family around for the press. He really IS a single-issue guy; little has changed since then. That issue is the ONLY reason they followed Santorum; Mitt has waffled on the issue and they didn't like that.

This article is from a wayback machine, so you'll have to scroll down a bit to read the actual content:

Just saw TLC clip of Duggars at the Dentist. I found it interesting Michelle said that when her & Jim Bob were first married and thinking about what was most important (financially) for their kids, they made a list. At the top was music. Second was teeth. She said they always wanted to make sure their kids got regular check-ups, etc. and Braces if they needed them. Funny, Josh really needs braces. He has kind of an overlapping front tooth among other issues that are evident at first glance. Josh was basically engaged when the TLC gravy train really started rolling, and when he was married, as Michelle said, "you're on your own buddy". So much for financial priorities for Josh's teeth back before TLC. Guess now that the Duggar's are living high on the hog, and several of the kids have had braces, Michelle makes the comment.

Here's some verbiage from my local public school to compare to Michelle and JimBob's choice of Gothard-style homeschooling: "We believe students need to be able to do deep math and science. They need to be effectivew communicators who can analyze vast amounts of information and who can present their ideas in compelling ways. They must be able to creatively problem-solve, and think innovatively. And the must understand the rewards of hard work. We need our parents and community to hold us to high standrds because there are such high expectations for our students as they leave our schools and enter college or career. We believe we can define more rigorous & more comprehensive measures - which ultimately will help us better serve our students and strengthen our community."

When you compare this attitude of a 'lowly' public school to the 'Wisdom Book' curriculum chosen for Michelle's School of the Blessed Dining Room Table, it's easy to see why, to date, there are so many grown/'graduated' Duggar offspring still living off their parents, pursuing nothing of life beyond Duggarville.

My sympathies to the Duggar offspring - their parents have stilted and crippled their potential, and, remarkably, do this in the name of god.

I'm Sorry I have asked before but am not sure if I was ever answered. Question, When they say, "buy used and save the difference." Do the Duggars actually compare prices say to Walmart clothing and save the maybe 0.25 they didn't spend? When Anna was shopping I wanted to pull her out of there and show her that at Target or Walmart you could buy children's clothing for $4.00/short, skirt and shirts as well. Okay so shoes are a different story. My kids early on wore hand me downs that were only worn by family and not for long. No longer is this an option, for one they are too old in my opinion to be wearing someone else's old shoes. Feet are very important and wearing worn out old shoes can cause problems down the road, especially if you are trying to fit into someone else molded shoe. Active kids need shoes that have a new sole that has a solid cushion not one that is broken down. Duggars clearly did not put that on their list of priorities, as is clear with all the flip flops. I'm not saying these have to be high end foot wear, Pay Less BOGO. If they are living off TLC then $10.00 shoes for everyone every 6 months or so should not break the bank. I know that when I use coupons, I don't take that $.25 I saved and put it in a jar, maybe I should, but I don't. Do they or is this just something they are so used to saying, am I taking it too literally?

I was totally freaked out by the possum. Those kids could have been seriously hurt. There are 2 reasons I can think of for trapping it... #1 They are going to use the meat for the next tater tot casserole or #2 Instead of Duggars go to the Dentist there will be an episode called Duggars Get Rabies... sheesh!!

Hi Imafan,
I think they just mean why pay more for something when you can get it used and much cheaper? They probably don't do this that much anymore either (only for the camera :-). I'll bet they buy a lot of new stuff, but probably on sale and clearance racks. They probably mean buy as cheap as you can get it and take the extra money and use it on other things or save it. I don't think there's an actual amount put away somewhere, but that's just my opinion.

I looked up a list of Famous Home Schoolers on a homeschool site; they gave the following examples: Joan of Arc, Leonardo da Vinci, Alexander the Great, William Penn, George Washington, Mozart, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Hanson, the Jonas Brothers, and Davy Crockett... among others. But, where are all the business leaders of today? The successful entrepreneurs? The scientists of today? Where are the current success stories? The Duggars have a long way to go to convince me that homeschooling is just as good (or better) than school schooling.

My sympathies also go to the Duggar blessings. Most parents want their children to have at the least the same opportunities they have had. Most often, parents I have known wanted much more for their children. This would include education, health care, dental care, etc. Parents can help provide these without sacrificing their religious beliefs and morals.

As a mom, I always wanted my children to have more education that I have had. My goal has been to build them up, not stifle them. IMHO, the Duggar blessings have been cheated out of a basic education, let alone post-secondary. Their hygiene habits seem to be disgustingly lacking. Their table manners are terrible at best.

JimBob and Michelle, take a look around you. Have you truly raised up your blessings to be healthy, well-rounded individuals? JMHO.

I'm with you on this one!!! The Duggar-type home schooling seems not to value critical thinking skills (as they'd likely erode the blind acceptance of the illogical Gothard dogma) and also can't embrace real science, as it flies in the face of Gothard's supposedly literal translation of the bible.

Another poster noted terrible Duggar manners and hygiene - I'd like to add their absolute inability to communicate articulately. Another result of Michelle's type of homeschooling.

Kids with Duggar-like upbringing/education are prepared for nothing beyond quiver production, superficial platitudes, and, of course, bible thumping.

I have to give the Duggars one thing, one thing. Their kids have had a great opportunity to volunteer in their community and others. I was rarely encouraged to do so. My parents are good people, went to church, helped friends, neighbors and family whenever needed. Yet, we were not the, go to another city to help in a disaster, go to a soup kitchen, help at an event to raise money for a cause, type people. I hope I am able to turn that around for my kids. That said, I also want my kids to have an EDUCATION! Plain and simple, my children will have to one day be able to think for themselves. The Duggar sheep, I mean children will never be able to do this IMO.

Homeschooling is not all bad if the parents are teaching a well-rounded curriculum. The Duggars are not. They are teaching a warped, narrow version of the world. As an educator I can say that not all schools are great but many are good and most are certainly better than Michelle's kitchen table classroom.Actually do they even still do that or is it all computer based with Jessa checking for completion? If Jim Bob and Michelle really feel their 19 are a blessing, why not allow those blessings to spread their wings and pave their own path so they can truly have a purposeful life beyond the 20 acres? I feel like they have held back the first 7 kids from being productive why not give the other 12 a chance.I wonder does Josh ever questions if the used car lot and hard times was really what God planned for him or was it Jim Bob?

Do you think the average man wants to vote for a man who can barely speak in public and never, ever kissed, touched, or even hugged a girl? Has never held down a paying job or reported to a superior, earned a paycheck, nothing. He's just not experienced in anything, personal, educational, job experience. He's never had to pay rent or morgage, pay a utility bill, make himself a meal. I can't even give him credit for childcare. Why didn't Jessa run for this unopposed office? Or any of the girls?

Re: "He's just not experienced in anything, personal, educational, job experience."

But, but, but, he's part of the Duggar clan! He's holier than the rest of us! He can bring holiness into politics! (Sarcasm intended)

No, I don't think John David believes this about himself, but I'm sure he's been "encouraged" and "purposed" by JimBob to take this route - why, I don't know. JimBob is probably preaching to John David that he can minister to others, somehow, and by golly I'm sure many voters out there will vote for John David just because he's such a good boy from a good family, blah, blah, blah...

I know many wonderful Christians. Most of them would not be good politicians. Certainly, a good moral base would be WONDERFUL to have in any political role, but I agree that someone needs some life experience, such as knowing how the "other side" lives, how to budget and manage money, how both small and large-scale economies work, etc.

I think that Mr. Gothard would not give a human being complete with ovaries a chance to run for any political job. How could Jessa or her sisters provide mommy-sister care for all the Duggar blessings? How could she ever serve in that capacity if she married an approved man chosen by her patriarch, gave birth every year, kept to an optimal weight, and met every need of her man? Just wouldn't work out for a female. JMHO of course.

Agreed!! The Duggars are ill prepared on so many levels. Just stay home, quote the bible at every opportunity, and pump out the bambinos - THIS seems to be Duggar Destiny. How sad.

re: "good moral base": one need not be religious, muchless only Christian, to have a "good moral base". This is one more Duggar fallacy - that THEY, as uber conservative Christians - have the corner on the morality market. This is just plain ignorance. But then, we ARE talking about the Duggars, so what else could we possibly expect beyond ignorance?

Does anyone know why Amy isn't on the Asia trip with them? I figure either she wasn't asked,or she didn't want to leave the boyfriend.I can't imagine that she wouldn't have went if asked,though.jmo.any thoughts? I don't read other sites so I have no idea.

Well, it's official. The Duggars are somewhere in China. Josh posted to his Instagram (a Razorback loss) and the time on his clock synched up with Bejing time plus the time since he posted it (approx. 9:15am) and I happened to see it (3 hours later when it was approx. 12:30 in Bejing).

Tokyo is an hour later, so it was easy to deduce his time zone and Bejing is the obvious place for them to be in that time zone. You just know they'll do the Great Wall and all that stuff.

I do wonder if govt. officials are with them to ensure they don't evangelicize in the streets. Frankly, they're probably going to be looked at like circus freaks; I bet a lot of local passers-by, accustomed to the one-child policy, will just assume that the J'Slaves pushing strollers or holding their youngest buddies are the mother. Heck, I'm sure there are people in the US who don't know the Duggars from Adam who likely thought the same thing.

Amy is on some kind of trip with her boyfriend, Reed-her Instagram pics show Colorado. Are they rooming in the same hotel room, or what? Prior to this, she posted a couple pictures of them kissing. The latest photo shows her wearing a ring (on her right finger), people are debating whether or not it could be an engagement ring. IMO, the stone is way too big to be one, especially from this Reed guy...looks to be just your run of the mill piece of costume jewelry, and so typical of Amy.

Nancy said...

Notice that she waited until the uber-fundie relatives went overseas before she posted the pictures of her in the leather miniskirt. Josh's instagram has been silent since that Razorback post last Sunday, China time.

I think someone might have informed him that the platform he was using charges exorbitant roaming charges. His silence only confirms that he's paying his phone bills; if it was TLC's dime, he'd continue to bombard us with pictures of "weird" Chinese food, or more bowls of rice.

imaamy said...

On instagram people are posting that Amy looks great. She does look thinner and better in her face but the outfit they are all exclaiming over looks trashy to me.

Good point about Josh not posting because of the charges. Wonder what kind of bill he will get?? Maybe he ate something other than pasta or rice and got sick?

Being a wife and mother isn't necessarily in Gods plan for every woman. The girls are so young I they have many years to marry and become mothers but if it doesn't look like its going to happen they will start the rehearsed answers to questions about why they are still single. That goes for the boys also. I do believe if I were a young woman I would want a more "worldly" man. At least a man that had played a game of baseball a few times.

tulip said...

I agree, Amy's leather skirt ensemble does look trashy-not to mention, she's all dolled up to the max, while Reed is bumming around in jeans and a half unbuttoned shirt. This is definitely not the greatest picture-looks like guy meets up with girl for something other than a cup of coffee and small talk.

sandi said...

If Amy should marry Reed,I wonder if tlc will cover it? I'm not so sure the Duggars would be happy to attend a wedding not holding to their own views? I have no idea how much control they have over it though, should tlc want to film it,and I think they would attend,of course.jmo though.

londonbridges said...

I agree that it may not be God's will for every young woman to marry and bear children. What I find horrendous is that the Duggar women will have their mate chosen by Daddy. Being pregnant and delivering as many babies as God wills (??) and being in submission to her mate in every area from choice of clothing, hair styles, etc. just seems wrong to me. JMHO.

On the fake fishing pond scene, Joy has a purity ring on. I assume its a purity ring. Why they keep that part of their beliefs a secret I have no idea. Speaking of secrets, I remember the "nike" story when it aired but it has never been mentioned again and I havent seen it in a rerun. Do you think the PR people have advised them not to bring that up anymore? Maybe the purity rings are being kept secret as well?

I said fake fishing because I think Jimbob stocked that sad little pond with perfectly matching sized fish just for the TV show. I have also decided that Michelle is punishing grandma and has mother-in-law issues. Michelle did hike a mountain in the woods did she? Dr. Evil couldn't have planned it any better.

Stephanie said...

I found the Nike episode on youtube. It was when Joy covered up the tv with her hand when her parents were on the View. When she did that the producer asked Joy, Grandma and Jana about Joys actions. Joy was little and really couldn't answer the question. She introduces us to the word "defrauding". I think that is the only time we have ever heard any Duggar say Defrauding. Jana told the Nike story. Did they let that extremist attitude out by accident because their parents weren't there?
We haven't heard about Nike since. We haven't heard about purity rings. It does seem like some things really aren't talked about on camera. Bill Gothard has never been mentioned nor the word Quiverfull.
Do you remeber Jackson dancing when a little music toy was playing? Jana was interviewed on the spot and she called it wiggling and then she went and gave Jackson the 3rd degree about what he was doing and he was scared and didn't dance like he did on camera earlier and faked it? Jana was a lost cause IMO after I saw how she overreacted with that little boy.

Nancy said...

There was a Nike! mention when they were at Dollywood or some other family-friendly Christian amusement parks. Yep, even mainstream Christian girls wear tank tops and short-shorts and have to be shielded from boys because they have no self-control, blah blah blah.

Leah said...

Michelle has discussed the purity rings before. It was during an interview on the View I think. She said when the girls start their period, they get a purity ring. Then they go out on a special "womanhood" outing and out to dinner with dad. Something along those lines. I believe she also discussed the fact that the girls watch her calendar "like hawks" during this same interview, but I could be mixing things up.

I live in Arkansas and purity rings are actually pretty common. For the record I would never have worn one, and I'm religious. I didnt think it was remotely necessary, and it tended to be more of a showcase of your piety. Also I think men should wear them if women do. Aren't they supposed to be pure too?

Stephanie said...

Ok, I was trying to think if Nike had been mentioned since The View episode. Dolly herself is Nike. How in the world did they meet Dolly Pardon? I always wondered about that.
Jimbob always has meeting about their trips to prepare them for what's to be expected etc. Why didn't they show Jimbobs expectations speech before meeting Dolly? That would have been funny! What did he tell his sons? "Look at the ground when we meet the 60 year old woman with the huge, uh, large, um, ugh, white wig". Seriously, what do you think he said? How did Jimbob even look at her? He did but I think I am going to rewatch that, and I don't remember Nike even though it was a NIKE episode!

APPLAUDING!!!!!!! If only the Duggars were bright enough to move past their ridiculous gender roles and expectations.

re: Meeting Dolly Parton being a Nike moment - I thought the same thing! It's sad that the parents are supposedly having to tell the kids what to expect in social situations. Most of their kids are old enough to have had opportunities to absorb this through their own exploration of the world and others. The Duggars refuse to allow their kids to mentally, emotionally, and spiritually develop, grow, & mature. The Duggar parents are SUCH control freaks and indoctrinate their kids with SUCH judgement and fear of any and all outside their own little, small-minded, self-created Duggar prison.

tulip said...

The biggest LOL moment for me, "Nike" related, was when Jim Bob & Michelle were on the Today Show back in February (unfortunately there to talk about the miscarriage of Jubilee), and who was the other big guest? Kate Upton...talking about her Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover, etc. Yikes!, at one point, the guests were together, and Jim Bob was by Kate, not really looking and you could obviously tell how absolutely uncomfortable he was. I do have to throw in a sidenote though: How totally absurd of Today to do those back to back segments, knowing the Duggars like they do, and talking about Kate & showing her assets after Jim Bob & Michelle have just discussed losing their baby.

Seriously? said...

"How totally absurd of Today to do those back to back segments, knowing the Duggars like they do, and talking about Kate & showing her assets after Jim Bob & Michelle have just discussed losing their baby."

THIS is just the kind of thing parents-who-pimp-out-their-families-for-profit agree to when they use their kids to bring in the TLC income so that the parents don't have to hold a real job.

I don't feel sorry for them at all - death of a fetus is not something for public consumption and entertainment - to agree to discuss this on TV for $$$ is beyond tacky and is not reflective of any emotional, mental, or spiritual depth.

Stephanie said...

I loved the Today show moment with the swimsuit model for theses reasons:
1. The model is beautiful and was dressed in a nice, lovely, classy dress if I remember correctly.
2. Jimbob was turned so his back was facing the model.
3. I wish the Today show was smart enough to capture this awkwardness but who knows.
4. It wasn't Playboy or Hustler, it was swimsuit/legit models, not Kendra Wilkinson skanking around
5. I don't think the Today show The View or anyone interviewing the Duggars should dress according to Duggar rules just for them. Elisabeth Hassleback had on a high collered dress when I looked at that old clip. The last interview, breakfast with Savannah Guthrie, she had on a pretty black dress but it was VERY low cut. She is so skinny and hasn't any breast to show so I thought it was fine. I would love to see an interviewer in a lovely sleeveless dress, with taupe high heels.

londonbridges said...

I agree with the prior posters. No one should have to dress according to the Duggar/Gothard standards, modify a T.V. show's agenda, or anything else for that matter. When JimBob and Michelle chose to profit from their loss of Jubilee, they left themselves open to any and all criticism, judgments etc. The Duggar 'blessings' have been the money-makers for their parents, and are included in criticism as well. IMHO parents cannot profit big-time because of their blessings' lives, behaviours, etc. and have total protection from the media, and viewers alike.

Beth Anne said...

Re: The purity rings..." tended to be more of a showcase of your piety."

This sentence captures the essence of Duggar life so well! I find EVERYTHING they do is aimed at showcasing their piety. They have all these rules and standards that are clearly designed to separate themselves from the "masses," but a lot of it is related to outside appearances with respect to the way they wear their hair, how they dress with the girls in skirts and boys in collared shirts, what words they use (i.e., defrauding, purposing), etc. Even the whole thing of waiting until your wedding day to kiss your new spouse is arbitrary and designed to showcase their piety. There is NO Bible verse that says you must wait until Daddy stands up at the altar and tells you to kiss, or you will go to you-know-where.

The not-so-subtle message, then, is that those girls who don't wear purity rings, dress in skirts, have long hair, or homeschool are less pious. It makes me upset, because it is what is in someone's HEART that counts. It doesn't matter if you wear a purity ring...if you have decided, in your heart, to be a Christian and live by grace, you can make "Godly" choices without having to showcase it.

tulip said...

I do agree that the Duggars have set themselves up for things like that Today show appearance. The fact that they had the Duggars on first, and as the lead in to Kate Upton, made me see how much Jubilee was being exploited and I found it sickening. I guess that was more of my line of thinking about the absurdity of it. I also felt that every media appearance they made "sharing their loss" was more of an advertisement to watch the episode than anything else.

I think I saw an after the show, or green room clip or something where Jim Bob was right by Kate, and he wouldn't look at her. Obviously uncomfortable to those of us who know why, as well as coming off as totally rude and holier-than-thou to everybody else. I've actually noticed the same look once when Amy showed up wearing a tank top & shorts-it was quick, but it was there.

The whole purity ring concept really annoys me.Not wearing the ring itself, but one, that it is just for the girls, and two, that they start wearing it when they start their cycle. That just irritates me.That is a very personal thing in a girl's life, and it shouldn't be showcased or displayed/announced to the world in any way, even symbolically.I.E.-no one else should know,as it isn't their business. And it certainly doesn't belong on a family calendar,either.JMO.

I absolutely agree that should one decide to live a godly life, there is no need to showcase it. One can live a moral life every day, and it should be evident to those around him/her. One doesn't need to continually proclaim his or her spiritual and moral standards to all who are in the vicinity. JMHO
