Today Show, Monday May 24 7 to 9 AM

Once again the Duggars are on the schedule for the Today Show. If they appear we'll leave this topic up. If they don't, we'll close it to comments or remove it. So far theories have ranged from "the big/bombshell" announcement to Josie has gone home again.

I've noticed they haven't appeared in TLC's promotion of their summer lineup. If they were going to have a summer season, wouldn't they be mentioned over something like Toddlers and Tiaras?

I hope for their sake that this means they're taking a long sabbatical, or quitting altogether.

that could be the bombshell. I vote they take a year off, and then do yearly specials.

Of course that doesn't mean that there isn't more than one bombshell... Michelle may be pregnant, too.

If cousin Amy is going to be on the Today show.. I'm not watching..lol Lets see if king Joshie gets some camera time.. lol

I believe the next episode is the last one for the season and if they come back will probably be in the Fall.

Anonymous said...

The finale episode of the Duggars would indicate a summer hiatus as well as taking a badly needed break IMO

Anonymous said...

Maybe the "bombshell" will be that Michelle is pregnant and because of her pregnancy and having to take care of Josie they are not filming the show anymore, they have finally realized they need to focus on their family and not the show. That would be wonderful news actually, accept for the pregnancy part.

As much as I enjoy watching them and commenting on their lifestyle choices, I have to say that I think it would be for the best if their announcement is that they are stopping the show and focusing on raising their children instead of traipsing around the country on their bus.

Here's how it will go:

Meredith (host) will ask the Duggars to divulge a big announcement...

JimBob will grin from ear to ear and announce they are "expecting" baby #20.

Michelle will do her little girl "giggle giggle" and say how "surprised" she is that's she is expecting again.

The older children will have their frozen smiles on their faces.

The camera will fade.

The rest of us will go throw up.

Thank you, babysteps/Sharla for that link!

I'm almost 100% positive now that they've got D20 on the way. ::shudder::

I don't know that I'd say Josie is looking great in those recent photos. Her eyes still "bug out" and I'm not sure the reason - is it that the rest of her face is sunken in, leaving the eye balls to stand out more than normal? Or do her eyes really sort of bug out (I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't know how else to describe it)?

To me, that flower bow is disturbing. I guess because she's so tiny and in such precarious health, I wouldn't put anything on her but what was necessary. Besides, those things remind me of old lady swimming caps from the 60's that had those same ugly flowers on them.

Quite enjoyed the Duggar family baring their teeth for the camera in that group shot - way to go folks! Fake it til you make it.

My guess is that the announcement is NOT going to be canceling the show. Wouldn't they and TLC have given us a little more warning? Since they're only calling Tuesday's episode the "season finale" (not series) I think it's likely there will be another season. My guess is that an engagement will be announced!

I'm also thinking that it doesn't need to be of concern that they are not in the summer lineup. Most TLC shows (like the rest of network TV) take a break for the summer. This allows room for other shows - like Toddlers and Tiaras, One Big Happy Family, etc. - to air.

I think they are going to announce on this show that one of their children is engaged.

Anonymous said...

did they announce Josh n Anna's engagement on Today? I don't recall.
I really think it might be baby no. 20.After all,it seems Jill is set up to be Josie's caregiver ,so on to making #20!

RPW said...

Or maybe they're going to tell us what's really wrong with Josie.

Millie at home said...

Someone pointed out of facebook that Josh was "babysitting" MacKynzie at the car lot while Anna was off doing something else and that it could have meant an OB appointment. Anna is also looking thinner lately so she could be experiencing morning sickness again.

Also, if Josie is being released from the hospital again they could be introducing her to the world in person this time. I see she is in a family picture in that People article that's circulating.

I doubt anyone is newly engaged in the family. I just read this.

"JD, Jana and Priscilla Keller are going to Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, and Jakarta on a missionary trip. Leaving around May 26, returning June 28."

So, I think the engagement rumors surrounding both JD and Jana are false.
JMO.

I wonder how many seasons they were under contract to do. It could be they have finally realized that with Josie to take care and the possibility of another pregnancy they really shouldn't do the show anymore. Maybe they have been negotiating and finally decided to stop filming.

I remember the video of Jessa wishing Michelle a happy mothers day. That girl did not look happy but completely tired and over it. She hasn't been seen much lately and Jana and Jinger seem to be staying away from the cameras more as well. In the zoo episode they were off away from the cameras at the Elephant exhibit. Maybe, just mabye, Jim Bob is seeing that this is no longer a good thing for his family, if it ever was.

I guess we will know tomorrow. It will probably end up being nothing, like usual.

I noticed the People article, in about the last paragraph, mentioned cards and little OUTFITS from viewers, for Josie, being in the Rec Room, OOPS... bedroom. I guess they don't send ALL they receive back to the senders. Interesting as there was a post on here some where about someone getting back something they had sent. Did anyone else catch this?

Jana fan said...

None of the children are engaged. John David and Jana are going on a month long ATI mission trip to Indonesia:

http://thechroniclesofci.blogspot.com/

Jill is preparing to be the primary caretaker of her ill sibling, Josie.

Jessa is too young to court.

So, the only logical explanation of the announcement is another pregnancy. Or the wished for announcement that they are finally putting this trainwreck of a show to rest and pulling their family off the air. That would be the best announcement of all, but knowing Jim Bob, the least likely.

Danielle said...

I think an engagement would be announced on the show itself. I can't think of any other thing they've gone on the today show for, other than pregnancies. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I think D20 is on the way, too.

just.me said...

Jana, JD, and Anna's sister, Priscilla are going on a missionary trip. Not exactly a bombshell, but it it news!

I don't think Anna's pregnant, or it would be Josh and Anna on the Today Show rather than Michelle and JB. I doubt if Michelle's pregnant again (even though I can't exactly say I'd be surprised), because of the analysis a previous poster gave regarding the 80 days of absintence and how unlikely it is that they would have already concieved.

This leaves two possibilities, IMO... either John David or Jana is engaged (I'd bet on John David), or Josie is home from the hosptial and they will have her with them on the show. I think either of those last two is equally likely.

Suzie said...

New reports around the blogisphere have announced that JD, Jana and Priscilla Keller (Anna's older, unmarried sister) will be going on a month long Gothard-sponsored mission trip to SE Asia at the end of June. A lot of like-minded people go on these missions as sort of their "bachelor/ette" party, so the JD/Michaela Bates engagement possibility still exists.

I wonder if a TLC camera crew (or a Duggar cam) will be along for footage to use next season? With Josie's problems, they won't be able to hop on the bus for the month-long jaunts they made last summer/fall that provided most of the "plot" for the show.

just.me said...

Since we're speculating...

I wonder if JD and Priscilla might have their eyes set on each other?

This trip would give them a way to spend time together in a very proper manner.

They'd have Jana and about 25-30 chaperones at all times!

It would be wonderful for Anna if her sister married into the family. Oh, and is this the same sister that spent the summer with Josh and Anna before Mackynzie was born?

Anonymous said...

"Oh, and is this the same sister that spent the summer with Josh and Anna before Mackynzie was born?"
-----------------------------------
No, it's not. That was Anna's younger sister, Susanna. We've seen little of Priscilla. I know exactly what she looks like, although I can't remember how I saw - maybe I looked her up on my own. Her voice was on the podcast from the girls retreat a while ago, but she must have been in at least one episode. I know, though, that she was not one of the sisters who flew in to see Mackynzie, so we didn't see her then.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the bombshell involves the show ending without at least one more season or half season. If TLC knew that the show was ending, wouldn't they use that to promote the final episodes? A month long missionary trip doesn't rule out an engagement IMHO. It's not like they have much physical interaction before marriage anyway. My bet is on baby no. 2 for Anna and Josh.

pumpkin said...

I would bet money that the TLC crew is going along on the mission trip. The regular daily grind has just gotten too boring and they need to spice it up. A trip to Indonesia would do that.

I used to live in southeastern China and let me tell you, those kids are in for the culture shock of a lifetime. Weeklong trips to El Salvador will not have prepared them for what they are about to experience.

Willow #1 said...

I think they could go on a missionary trip and be courting at the same time, couldn't they? Whether it is their "intended" or not. I am sure there are many chaperones/guides with them. I had wondered last year if Anna's sister Susanna would wind up with a Duggar or Bates as she was on that trip to see the Bates when they went to Pigeon Forge. Maybe it is turning out to be this other sister. Interesting. Do we know if any other young people went on the trip - such as from the Bates/Wilson/Staddon families? I bet there are. How fun for them and GREAT for Jana and JD to get away - even if it is a Gothard thing.

Sharla said...

Once again another no show. They were still on the schedule as of Friday.

Willow #1 said...

I am just so disappointed that the Duggars/TLC/NBC would treat us like this. I set my alarm to get up early after all - LOL. Seriously, the bombshell must be that they aren't going to tell us what is going on. I am so afraid that either they are thoughtless OR there is really something very terrible wrong and I don't like either scenario.

I feel the Duggars need to stop pretending. We all know they can afford a professional baby nurse (even just part time) and that said nurse would do her job and probably not even inter-act with the other children and therefore, would not "influence" them in any way. And she could sign an iron-clad confidentiality agreement. I'm sure they could even find a nurse among their fundamentalist friends that they could trust. It is ridiculous for them to act like they have to have a sibling study nursing in order to help raise this baby also. The siblings have their hands full already. No one believes Jill (even with the family love factor) could do as good a job as a real experienced nurse. Its like KG pretending she only had one "baby sitter" when everyone knew she had several.

I am trying to keep liking the Duggars, but they are trying my patience.

The Duggars weren't on the Today show today. This leads me to believe that both times they were scheduled were for a "Josie is home /Josie met the world officially on the Today Show"

Having had a preemie in the NICU I can understand that dismissal dates/times can change at the drop of a hat. The day my son came home they had been saying in the AM that they thought that he might go home later that week then "bam" they said he was able to come home that day and that they had already signed his dismissal papers.
Many of the friends who also had preemies in the NICU had their go home date moved up or pushed back with almost no notice.

So I could very easily see the canceling of the appearances as go home dates from the NICU are definitely not set in stone anfd can change with a seconds notice

Well, Jana can't be Josie's caregiver and be out of the country for a month to Southeast Asia at the same time.....so that leaves out Jana.

Joseph? A boy change a girls diaper? Never happen.

Jessa or Jinger? Are you kidding me? They are too busy primping their hair and rolling their eyes.

That leaves Jill.

This is all on the sly, of course, while Michelle pontificates about how she is spending the next year concentrating on Josie. That's her story and she's stickin' to it.

Interesting that both time the Duggars have failed to appear on the Today Show, their usual 8:15 slot was taken over by Bret Michaels. The first time appears to me to be a bump: he was a contender on a big NBC show and had suffered a major brain hemmorhage (sp? sorry) and almost died after the show taped, but before the winner was revealed. The Duggars were still on Comcast's guide as appearing that morning.

This morning was different: as Sharla said, the Duggars were still scheduled to appear as of Friday (I set the DVR and didnt' check the listing again until they failed to appear again). TODAY'S listing was changed from Friday; the Duggars were no longer listed as appearing. But since the Apprentice thing was taped last night and it was unknown until the last minute whether Michaels would be there after the TIA earlier in the week and remain in NYC for the wrap-up interview this morning, that space was still reserved for WHOEVER won the Apprentice.

This second no-show appears to originate from the Duggar side; JB doesn't turn down publicity, especially during May Sweeps! The one weird thing is that Comcast's preview merely said it was going to have an "update on Josie Duggar's condition" while others' listing for the show said "Josie comes home!" which we all know given the People article, was a bunch of hooey.

It's beginning to look more and more like Michelle is indeed knocked up with #20, not announcing it yet, both due to her age and risk (which she finally seems to dimly understand) and the backlash that's gaining momentum. I wanted to believe she'd take a year off to take care of Josie, even before we knew the extent of her health issues (and I bet there's more we don't know), but to get pregnant (or even TRY) during this time is about the most selfish act I can imagine.

Anonymous said...

Suzie, thank you,I totally agree.I would love to see the D's actually put their children first,(esp. the new baby),as they say they teach their own kids to do with the J.O.Y. method. But it seems it only applies to the kids, not themselves.JMO.
actually I would lvoe to see the bates family as well 'man up' and treat the women as they are equals, first of all, starting with caring about their wives' health and telling them,"I love you and enough is enough!" And second of all letting the girls go to college.and that's just for starters.we do not live in ancient times,we are supposed to find a way to walk between the two worlds.how can one witness when it is off limits to them??again, jmo.

And what about little Jordyn-Grace who was only a year old when Josie was born. How much time does she get with mom and dad? I wonder how old she was when she was taken from JB and Michelle's bedroom and became the responsibility of her sisters. Will this be Josie's fate if Michelle is now pregnant again?

Anonymous said...

Jordyn seems like a very happy healthy child to me.

Anonymous said...

Michelle said she was going o take this year and focus on Josie. At this point she has already fulfilled five and a half mnths of that commitment!

Little Jordyn appears very happy, healthy and content. Although it appears she isn't getting enough of her mother's time, Jim Bob is seen holding her a lot and although the current 15 hours a day at the hospital seems extreme, this is a crisis. I would be surprised if Josie isn't released again soon. Right now Michelle is trying to help save the life of her infant. I don't see how she deserves criticism for that.

Anonymous said...

Just saw an update from family friend of The Duggars. Josie has reached 7 pounds and should be released from the hospital in a couple of weeks!!

nccalgal said...

If it was a matter of being "bumped" for another story, it seems like they would have rescheduled the "interview". At the very least, they should have announced that the Duggar segment had been cancelled for that day. IMO it is inconsiderate of the Today show not to have said something knowing the Duggars have a following-good, bad or indifferent.

Jen said...

I'm preparing myself for the end of the show. I have a feeling by missed interviews (by getting bumped or my canceling)that they (TLC or the Duggars) might be ready to end the show.

There isn't always a big announcement when a show end sometime it just disappears.

If they (TLC or the Duggars) do end the show I'll miss the Duggars so I'm preparing for end and will be delighted if that is not the case.

just.me said...

I believe the Duggars have lost touch with reality in the recent years.

The TLC money has changed them, and I'm not impressed. JB doesn't even pretend to work any longer, Josh is a long running joke with businesses, and even JD sees it as perfectly reasonable to leave his new towing business for over a month, so he can play missionary. In real life, these would not be options without the TLC income.

If the family were to go back to maybe a yearly special, it would be a step in the right direction.

The Duggars have become such fame-whores that they are ALWAYS doing interviews and photo sessions both for money and attention. They could stop all of that and it would most likely lead to them having more settled and centered lives.

It's time for them to graciously step out of the spot light and take care of their children.

_____
Yes, she does. She seems to be a very laid back baby, who loves hanging with her sister/moms.

Little Jennifer, who is just a baby herself, seems lost in the crowd. And the next one up, Jo/Joy anna/hanna?, seems very strong and can hold her own. But sometimes those children who seem the strongest, end up needing the most in attention.

Wonder how many of the younger kids, including the wild herd, will have attachment disorders from not having a true mother? Just a mother figure?

Anonymous said...

They said Josie has 3 hernias? I wonder if they have been repaired. I know that can be very painful and stressful for an infant. Maybe they are just minor ones. She has a rough road ahead. I really hope I don't hear that the family is traveling with her this year. She needs a calm, quiet environment until she has her surgeries.

Jana fan said...

I think the backlash Michelle will get, if she is indeed incubating number 20, will be huge. TLC has already had a number of other families implode, and this one is next to go.

If Jim Bob or the folks at TLC has half a brain, they will pull the plug before the publicity is too bad. As it is, the Duggars are becoming regulars in People magazine. I don't know how that jibes with their "modest" views, of not wanting to draw so much attention to themselves, but they are in there almost every week now. When that happened to "another" family, it was only a matter of time before the **** hit the fan.

Josie is sick, probably with a bad genetic condition that is likely lifelong. I don't think a surgery alone is going to fix what ails her. If Michelle is pregnant with number 20, and planning to pawn off Josie's care on Jill, I really hope that even their staunch supporters will begin a revolt.

This couple, who claim to be so "family values" oriented, do not even pay any attention to the blessings they have, including the very ill one. People who work and use day care (which the Duggars look down on) have much higher quality childcare and spend more time with their kids.

End the madness now! Get those kids off the air! No child should have his childhood broadcasted on national television. We need child protection laws for reality tv kids!!!

Anonymous said...

Right now Michelle is trying to help save the life of her infant. I don't see how she deserves criticism for that.
----------------------------

My criticism would be based on whether the possibility that she is pregnant with No. 20 turn out to be true or not. If she is pregnant, or gets pregnant again soon, then I will criticize her because she not only has 3 very young children who are still pretty much babies at home that need her time and attention, she now also has Josie, a preemie who has medical issues and is facing surgical intervention when she is well enough to handle it.

That alone, not to mention her slightly older children, should give her and JimBob plenty of reasons to be responsible and abstain from sexual intercourse, since they don't believe in practicing any form of birth control. Their existing children have needs and those needs should come before the need of either parent to have unprotected sex that could possibly lead to a further pregnancy at this time.

It's called putting others first, and that's supposed to be one of their cornerstones of faith. What does it say about two supposed adults with 19 children already, that they can't even abstain from sex for awhile in the best interests of the wife's health, their preemie's needs, and their other children's needs? They talk about being responsible, yet can't seem to walk the walk. Yes, it would be difficult to abstain, but that's not the end of the world for pity's sake. We all make sacrifices for our family and sometimes, that's one of those sacrifices.

Danielle said...

I too have feared a backlash if Michelle was ever pregnant with #20. I am afraid that they would even be physically attacked.

Anonymous said...

It's good to see Jana have a chance to get away for a whole month but I wonder if she'll have any relaxation or more work, work, work many hours a day. I read this is a Gothard sponsored trip. That will mean many rules/laws especially for the women.

Gothard has an almost middle eastern notion of what's right for women: complete obedience to father/husband; strict dress codes; minimal education; disdain of medical science (home birth without pain medication is considered to be the more obedient choice); sex not for pleasure but only when ovulating in order to have as many children as possible; marriage that's semi-arranged.

Maybe Jana will have a Gothard courtship on this trip but she won't be allowed to have even a one- minute conversation with a male without other people present! Wow, it can't be easy!

Anonymous said...

Jordyn is happy and content because her primary caregivers are with her. She doesn't see Michelle has her caregiver I wonder if she even realizes she is her mother. She calls her mama but might just think that is her name more so than her actual mother. I imagine if her buddy up and left and was gone for 15 hours a day she would not be so happy.

Celestie said...

----
I'm sure the breast milk Ma is providing is helping, but right now, the doctors and nurses are working to make this baby well. They would be doing that with or without Ma's being there. Maybe Ma stayed at the hospital, while the rest of the family went to camp.

just.me said...

Interesting point about Jordyn not really understanding what a mama is.

I think the younger children are VERY confused as to understanding exactly what a parent is. They use mom and dad as names, but it's the sister-moms that mother them.

Time will tell what happens with the little ones.

Kitten said...

Wonder how many of the younger kids, including the wild herd, will have attachment disorders from not having a true mother?

The problems/trauma for them will come when their mother-figures get married and leave the home, which, in the ATI world of early marriage, will likely happen when the youngest kids are still pretty young. I doubt they have much of an attachment to Michelle, but I'm betting the loss of Jana or Jill will be traumatic to the children who have grown up with them as their primary caregivers. I wonder if JB and Michelle will guilt at least one of the older girls into staying single?

Josie has a bad genetic condition? Not likely. She has digestive problems which causes her to remain gaunt. Her eyes bulge because we are born with our adult size eyes. The eyeballs is one thing on our body that never grows. Her's look huge cause she's so little. The bigger Josie gets the more normal her appearance will be. She looked really good today on the show.

Oh and Jana and the girls were alone with Zac Hanson when they went to El Salvador this past Dec. I saw a photo. And shhhhhhh, Zac was wearing shorts!

Nancy said...

The People article went into detail about Josie's missing ligaments and whatnot that are allowing her stomach to essentially float free in her abdomen, as well as some of her intestines, which if not properly attached, can tangle, knot and if not immediately repaired, kill her. Doctors with over 20 years experience with preemies have confirmed elsewhere this is indeed a genetic deformity that would have happened whether Josie was premature or full-term. It requires surgery to anchor her stomach and intestines to the abdominal cavity. This is NOT simple "digestive issues."

The baby is lucky to be alive and even so, has a very long road ahead of her. Not another baby sister or brother, especially when there's a four year old who throws the little ones around like they are baby dolls (and explains the bruise on Jordyn's face in the Mother's Day videos). Great parenting there, just like the "wolves" they purport to be so superior to because of their beliefs.

Still wondering why they were a no-show again. Something is rotten in the House of Duggar these days.

In reference to a comment above by 'babysteps', actually we are NOT born with adult sized eyes. You can find false information all over the web about this, but the truth is, our eyes keep growing until we are teens.

I've seen preemies with heads the size of an EGG, and I've seen their eyes, and while they STILL look large in proportion, they are NOT adult sized eyeballs.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced the 'bombshell' is a loooooong hiatus from the show, or quitting altogether.

Another Duggar wedding would be fun news, but hardly a bombshell. (when did this group go from deciding the object of John David's amore is the oldest Bates girl, not Erin?) The fact that they announced it in church tells me they wanted a chance to explain an apparently startling announcement.

If Josie is in for multiple surgeries to repair/reconstruct her digestive system, that will mean a long time in Little Rock, and perhaps they are not any happier with made-up events to video than the viewers seem to be.
If there is nothing to film, it's time to get back to their own lives.

If it is a combination of another baby for Michelle (along with the above), they aren't going to change their views, and perhaps are tired of being criticised for them.

They've put some money in the bank (along with buying lots of 'toys for boys' like trucks, trailers and ATVs, maybe they've decided it's time to stop.
