The oldest Duggar girls share some sisterly time trying out hair & makeup for Jill's upcoming nuptials. Then, they're off to search for the perfect bridesmaid attire. Can Jill find a bridesmaids dress that fits her vintage feel while staying modest?

From girls that would so their own perms to getting professional treatment. Kinda sad isn't it.

Glad the girls are getting pampered but what about grandma and derricks mom.

Who wants to bet that "glam" involves flip-flops and jean skirts.

I really wasn't a fan of the style of Jill's dresses. They seemed too casual, but I thought the color was nice for their spring wedding. Maybe the shoes and dress belt threw me off....

The pictures of the girls are really pretty. I think Jana especially could have been a model. I say "could have" because by the time she breaks free of the madness she will be too old to model. (18-24 is what most modeling agencies want) Still they are all really pretty girls. If they are stuck in skirts & junk, at least they are allowed to fix hair & put makeup on!

I think it's odd that they are so into their hair and makeup when they are supposed to be modest and basic.

I have to ask this...why do these Duggar girls seem to only have one aspiration in life and that's getting married and the second they do, get pregnant??? Do you feel any of the Duggar females are different from or would want to break free of the MOLD they've lived in for so long? In an episode a couple of weeks ago I think it was little Jennifer who was coyly saying she didn't want to get married or have babies, but again, once she's older and she sees she must compete with this ongoing tradition, I imagine she'll be doing the same.

I was always surprised they were allowed to wear makeup at all growing up. You can wear a long skirt but if you are rocking a smokey eye and red lips, it sort of negates the whole "demure" thing

Fingers crossed that renegade Jinger sneaks out one night and joins the Amish kids in NYC.My money is on her to break the chain!

anyone know what is going on with Josiah duggar. we have not seen or heard from him for a while? I kind of hopping he left the family and is living a normal life somewhere. he just does not seem happy. but if he did the family would never tell the truth?

I always thought it was odd about the makeup, too, for people who put the emphasis on "countenance". In some close ups (I noticed it with Jill) you can really see the makeup packed on. Some of them have acne problems, too, which probably isn't helped with makeup. Also, wouldn't makeup be considered something that would be to entice men? Maybe on days that they don't film, they don't worry about the makeup so much. I believe Jessa said something about having to be more concerned about how she looks on a daily basis now that Ben is there all the time. Wait till she's living with him!!

I was wondering -- If one of the Duggars and their spouse realized that they could never produce healthy babies together, would they continue to "let God guide how many babies they had." If the doctor told them that their genetics would always produce children with disabilities, would they change their stance on popping out as many as God sees fit? ... hmmmm

Missy said...

GIA, sadly in reply to your question about the Duggar girls only aspiration in life, being to marry & produce babies, the answer is an unqualified; YES! It's the only thing they know. What outside friends do they really have? They are always saying they have their own friends, not just their sisters, but when & where do you see them? Do they have sleepovers, do they travel with them? Jill made the ridiculous comment, that she became interested in becoming a midwife, when she was helping a "friend," who was a single pregnant mom. If you believe that her family would let her be friends with an unwed mom, especially since it was a few years ago when she was much younger, then I have some property on the moon to sell. I have always had hope for both Jinger & especially "Hannie," to break free. But as the show/ministry goes on, that hope is beginning to wane. Hannie was always very outspoken, & could more than keep up with Jackson, in the talking head moments. She used to want to be a Dr., but I'm not sure about admission to medical school, when there is no college & only the SOTDRT. If you're not a long time watcher that's..the school of the dining room table, with Michelle as the teacher, sometimes the older girls "helping out" as it's not legal for them to be the teachers. Also Hannie is now much more in the background, no longer sort of up front & in your face, which I personally liked about her. So to sum it all up again, the answer to your original question is, YES, that's their only aspiration in life. Very sad.

hello said...

I have no doubt that Hannie has been trained not to want to be a doctor and wants to be a wife and mom instead. There is nothing wrong with that if you choose it, but it is wrong when it is chosen for you. The gorls have been trained since birth that that there role in life is to get married, submit to their husbands and have as many babies as possible. I believe the girls have also been trained to believe that they are to marry the first guy they enter a courtship with. When Jill and Jessa first entered their courtships, the first thing out of Jimboob and Michelle's mouths were- there will probably be an engagement, wedding and babies soon. I don't think it is possible to really get to know someone when you have your parents involved in every text and phone call. Then you have a chaperone on every date you go on and this can be anyone that is ten years or older. Jimboob seems to be in charge of picking his daughter' s future husbands. How else would the girls meet anybody since they are not allowed to go anywhere by themselves. I would like to know what would happen if one of the girls decided that the guy they are in a courtship with is not the one for them since a courtship is for the purpose of finding a husband. Would the only way out be if they guy decides to break it off?

Doesn't Anna know how to read a cookbook so she needed someone to come help her cook a healthy meal. Surely this was a one-time thing and now it's back to Tater Tot casserole and other processed foods.

Poor Jana. She looks so miserable.

Could dress shopping be any more staged? Those dresses was clearly not purchased there. Every other dress on the racks were satin or organza and significantly more than $30. Lace is a popular choice these days a bridal store will have more than one lace option. Not to mention bridal stores, unless they are a chain, will carry a dress in one size and can't order dresses in six weeks. At least try to make it believable.

Anonymous said...

The Duggar girls have explained this before. They're goal isn't to be unattractive. By fixing their hair and makeup they feel they bring the attention to their faces and their naturally beauty.

Anonymous said...

Was poor Jana chained to that sewing machine? Didn't look like she was enjoying the tea party too much. Kudos to her though; Jana did do a very professional job altering those tragic, cheap rags. Did Jill actually call the color of the dresses teal? They looked like they had been dyed with Shamrock Shakes

Anonymous said...

Of course they prefer long hair; because that's what dad likes. But it's fun to see them going to an actual salon (bill footed by TLC).

Refreshing to see the little mini-Duggar screaming because he doesn't like the food. :) But poor Josh will probably pop from having 'real' food that doesn't have tater tots in it.

Bridesmaid dress shopping: Michelle, it's not about your dress and wedding. Why does she have to link everything back to her?

I think the underskirt on the bridesmaids' dresses looks like their slips have, uh, slipped!

i saw the picture of Joy and see looks like she is in her mid 20. she needed to wear her hair down not up. other ones had nice hair styles.

What in the world was up with the bridesmaids attire? I don't know where to begin, the dresses or the shoes......

And the constant reminder from Jill, my sisters are my best friends. Do she or any other of the Duggar children have friends? Years ago the Duggars referred to the Bates children as their best friends. But that is no longer mention.

Even in the worst of cults, they do socialize with others........

Rudy Tecat said...

I'm sorry, but those new hair-dos looked simply horrible! Someone should have said something to them. But, when you get a free haircut for plugging a hair salon, what can you do. I thought it was funny, though, that the girls kept commenting (later) on the salon experience...and they all had their hair back to Duggar-normal.

Rudy Tecat said...

Jana looked best right at the beginning of her hair styling experience when her hair was pulled back behind her...she really needs to have short hair.

Rudy Tecat said...

I thought it was funny, too, when Jana was trying to describe the type of bride-to-be Jill is...she was searching for the right words... too bad she doesn't watch TV or she could have simply said, "Jill isn't a bridezilla."

Anonymous said...

The dresses and shoes are horrible but I already knew that because I have seen numerous photos of the wedding. TLC needs to get a different perspective on this season. Just show the wedding and get it over with, then focus on some of the other children and what they are doing. I do not care about Jill/Jessa/Ben or Derick anymore. You have overdone this!

Allison said...

I didn't really think their hair looked any different than how they normally have it. Long and curly. They could have done that at home!

Joy's hair was really the only one that had any kind of unique style to it. I thought it was interesting that Jill (or someone...) said "all us Duggar girls like our hair down" and then Joy had her hair completely up. And I thought it looked great.

I watched Little People Big World after the...the..fiasco? that is the Duggars. Funny thing Jeremy Roloff was just married a week or so ago and the wedding was on TLC last night. What a beautiful, tastefully done wedding it was! Jill's "upcoming" wedding is old news so why bother with all this scripted season. Let's just fast forward to Jessa and Ben's. Oh by the way that's Ben Seewald.

Judy said...

How many times an Jill remind us that her sisters are her best friends? Funny, that's what her parents have said they wanted from the beginning...for their kids to be best friends. And that's because???

hello said...

Jessa is marrying Ben Seewald? Thanks for the info! LOL. They are really dragging out the whole Jill/Derrick story way too long. By the time they air the wedding, Jill will probably have the baby and be working on #2. I wonder if they will be filming Jessa and Ben through the proposal, engagement, wedding planning and the wedding itself and put it on tv nezt season.

I LOVED Jeremy & Audrey's wedding! So classy & beautiful! Duggars could learn from them.

Poor Joy! She looked like a 30 year old woman in her wedding hairstyle.

I did not like Joy's hairdo either...but if she did that on purpose due to Jill saying she wanted them all to have their hair down then.......WOOHOOO JOY .....!

Am I really to believe that the Duggar girls went to a bridal salon and picked out a bridesmaid's dress for under $30? You can barely find a dress at T.J.Maxx for that price. I know you can make a neckline lower, but can you make a neckline higher by just taking it up in the shoulders. Wouldn't that make the armholes way smaller and then adding sleeves to armholes? And ordering an extra dress will give you enough material to make the alterations? Someone who sews, please help me out here. I think those dresses were from probably a McCalls pattern and were home made. Poor slave Jana got the honor to make/alter them.

The Roloff wedding was just beautiful and emotional. Jeremy and Audrey looked spectacular and talked like the educated adults they are about marriage and their expectations. When you hear those two talk, you realize how immature and unprepared Jill/Derick and Jessa/Ben are.

I'll barf if they do....no I think I'll take a hiatus from the show for awhile

Rudy Tecat said...

The Duggars must have a special secretary (or, at least, a file cabinet) filled with offers of free things: I'm sure they get offers every day from people offering them free things just for a plug from the Duggars on their TV show, from Wedding Dress shops to craft stores beauty salons to bakeries to shoe stores. There was probably a feeding frenzy all over the country when Jill and Derick Dillard (please use last name when referring to Derick) announced their upcoming wedding. And, the winning bid was up in Virginia.

Yes, can someone explain why the Roloff's were able to film and air within weeks and the Duggars are months off??? It's especially ridiculous when we know that Jill is already PG and another Duggar wedding is a few weeks away.
Get it together!!!!!

I'm glad someone else posted that those ugly bridesmaids dresses Jill had looked homemade. I thought that myself from the first group photo posted.
I thought the Roloffs blew them out of the water with their sons wedding. The event was tastefully done, well filmed and edited and Jeremy really showed genuine love and affection for his parents by CHOICE, not obligation or fear of hell. I don't know about the Roloffs politics or religion, someone stated somewhere that their church "prays the gay away", etc. But you know what? Everyone is entitled in this country to believe what they wish about things and are free to pray the way they want. The fact that I don't know about their issues like this is a lesson the Duggars should look up at take notice. Their show is about their family life, not their personal beliefs.
If TLC could do such a great job episode-wise and timewise, why didn't the Duggars do the same with Jill's wedding?
The person driving the Duggar publicity train, is doing a poor job.

These girls have no clue.

Why didn't they just purchas gowns for the bridesmaids? Or at least some old Laura Ashley dresses from the 90's. The hairstyles made them look like aging country/western singers.

I loved her updo! So different than what were use to seeing on any of the Duggars! I think that is why I like it so much. Also, it kind of makes me sad for Joy because it reminds me of prom season, something Joy will never get to experience.

Re: Anonymous10/2 @12:46pm
I totally agree with you about the Roloff wedding. Also I didn't know what their beliefs were are far as religion, politics etc. I think they have done a good job at keeping those beliefs to themselves. I agree in this country you can believe what you want, but you don't need to try & minister your beliefs to everyone. We taught our family that this is the way we believe & maybe someday my kids will believe differently & that's fine with me. I'm not here to tell them how to live once I feel I have established a foundation that makes them good people, regardless of what religion they might choose later, or what lifestyle. That's what makes them adults.

Anonymous said...

I also thought there are tea length dresses that would have worked fine for the Duggar girls. They wouldn't need to add that ridiculous fabric that was hanging down like their slip was falling down. Just buy longer dresses. You see different length dresses at wedding all the time.

One thing that troubles me about all the wedding preparations in recent shows is the absence of any mention of premarital counseling. I am an evangelical Christian (not in any way affiliated with Gothard and his ilk)and our pastor will not marry any couple who does not agree to participate in premarital counseling. This can take many forms: meetings with the pastor, or watching and discussing a video series about marriage such as "Love and Respect," or meeting with a mentoring couple to work through a book about marriage. Premarital counseling brings up all kinds of matters that a couple needs to address: personality differences, finances, children, communication, etc. I hope Jill and Derrick are participating in counseling in some form, but all the emphasis and show time devoted to finding dresses, shoes, a venue, as well as the giggly/googly-eyed interview segments sure don't seem to indicate that they have spent time discussing the foundation of the serious commitment of marriage. A wise pastor/counselor will tell a couple that the wedding lasts a few hours but the marriage lasts a lifetime.

First minute into the episode and Jill already recites how her sisters are her best friends. Well of course since they have no other friends. Immediately as Jill said she wanted to find dresses they could wear on a daily basis, I knew this would be a disaster. It's a wedding for goodness sake! Jill colours and wedding style had no "vintage" or "shabby chiq" feel..this girl has no idea what style is. The dress she pulled up wasn't teal. That is mint green honey. I think the dress would have actually been really nice without those sleeves added and that disgusting slip coming out from underneath. It wasn't an immodest dress…it covered the shoulders and it wasn't short. But the Duggar's go extreme again and ruin the entire look of the wedding party. Just tacky.

I don't know if i'm buying the story of how they met that lady at the Farmer's Market…my bet is TLC paid for her to make a good plot. It's been over a year now that Anna has been "trying" to eat healthier but still doesn't "have the knowledge." Doesn't she know how to read or use the internet? The lady "showed" Anna those fruit kebabs, however they were set up on the table in the previous episode when the girls went dress shopping. Josh and Anna still kiss as awkwardly as they did when they first got married…as though they haven't got any practice throughout 6 years. I think Mackynzie is adorable! She has spunk and personality and I hope that isn't shot down inside of her like it has been for the rest of the Duggar girls.

Anonymous said...

The Duggars have no need of a pastor. They police themselves, remember? Jim Bob is their very own self-appointed preacher in his own church, in his own building on his own property. Other like-minded families come to worship him on Sundays.
But, good point about pre-marital counseling, I agree with you that they need that more than shoe shopping..I wonder what a real minister would think that they haven't spent ANY one on one time together and are marrying with no experience in the world, never having had a private conversation as to what their aspirations/differences are. Maybe that's why they stand clear of pre marital counseling from a real minister, as their methods would not be supported...

Anonymous said...

I also find it odd that a church would let a couple use their sanctuary for a wedding when don't belong to that church. As I understand, either the couple, or one set of parents usually need to be a member of the congregation to be married. Isn't that customary? Some nerve of those Duggars to carry on in their own made up church then use a real church for Jill's wedding, just like their own stupid vow renewal.

I think Jana's true personality was shining through when she was with her separate stylists getting her hair done. She was funny and lively. I loved it, but it also made me sad because she has to hide that normally.

Jeannine Guidry said...

Also, Joy talking about being married being a lot of work was really cute. She is 16 after all, but her saying "and you have to talk to them a lot..." was funny. I love her and Jana together. They should both escape, it would be great. Grab Jinger and Johannah on the way out.

I really like Anna's hair in the spiral curls and I appreciate that she is at least willing to try learning to cook with fresh foods. The same can not be said for Michelle. In one of the earlier episodes with Anna, Josh said she reminds him of his mother in so many ways. I can't say the same. Despite disagreeing with Anna on many of her beliefs and things she teaches her children, I do think she tries to be a good mom and she certainly enjoys her kids even after they are no longer babies. Josh really got lucky in finding her.

Poor Jana, she seems so sad. Probably entering "old maid" status now. And John David! Good luck finding a wife. His personality leaves a lot to be desired...

Anon and all- It is devastatingly cruel to advocate ' pray away the gay." And Jeremy was caught using n word many times. So i dont care how pretty their wedding was. They arent pretty inside where it counts.
