I forget so someone please remind me. Are there no non duggars involved with this wedding?

Londonbridges said...

Really? They actually shopped for those ugly shoes? Yikes!

Anonymous said...

If I were cousin Amy, I would ditch them. I'd be insulted that no one has asked me to be a bridesmaid yet. They are supposed to be "so close". I bet Amy pushes herself on them because they have a TV show and she gets a check if she comes by.
After all, one of the middle guys said, "cousin Amy isn't like us, but we accept her". Can you imagine that? I'd be miffed if I were Jim Bob's sister.

Anonymous said...

Jim Boob and the boys installing carpet....do they know how? Is Ben still being bullied by John David???

Dar said...

Judging from the shoes they did wear, they did not look very hard!

Anonymous said...

I agree about the shoes the girls wore. It didn't look like they put any time, effort or money into the brown leather shoes. I remember everyone was saying that they should have had some type of summery shoes to go with the dresses in June. Looked like they just pulled some shoes out of the closet for the wedding.

Andrea said...

A show about shoe shopping. Gosh get to the actual wedding already?!

Pam said...

I also agree about the shoes, but I wasn't a huge fan of the dresses either. It looked like all their slips were showing.

Anonymous said...

Yeah no kidding. Cousin Amy is probably the only normalcy any of them experience. I can see Jinger running off with Amy.

Leigh Ann Harvey said...

When I was the wedding photos I wondered if they just decided to skip buying new shoes and wear what they had already. Maybe they decided to buy shoes they'd wear again. But you can get cheap decent-looking flats and if they only cost $10 it doesn't matter if you only wear them once. And these girls could stand to have a nice pair of dress shoes, anyway, I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

I respectfully, but wholeheartedly, disagree about Amy. In my opinion, she is the MOST obnoxious person. I don't know how anybody can stand to be around her. She is a total spaz, and she thinks she's so much fun. I don't watch any show that she is on.

Anonymous said...

I have to agree with the other posters here. If Jill and her bridesmaids really did go shopping to find the "right" shoes to wear with their bridesmaids' dresses, they certainly didn't put any thought into the purchases. Those clunky wedges make all the girls look sort of squat and short-legged. I'm sure they could have found light colored ballet flats or cute strappy sandals that would have been much more complimentary. But then, that's just me.

Anonymous said...

what shoes are you talking about. from the wedding photos I saw they were wearing flip flops not wedges. they bought boughts dress and Jana somewhere fixed them up. Also anyone notice how many updates jill gets about being preggo seems like everyother day. it seems everything is all about Jill.

Anonymous said...

Yes, those fashion disasters of a family really needed a dressy shoe whether it be a sandal type or a closed shoe. IMO, gold, silver, an off white to match some flowers in the bouquet or dyed satin ballet flats to match the color of their dresses would have really complimented those awful bridesmaids dresses. The only thing good about them was the color. They reeked "cheaply homemade". A brown belt should have NEVER entered their minds..I would like to know who actually picked those out? Jill or her "wedding planner/friend"?

puddin' said...

I agree with all of you on the ugly shoes and the ugly belts and the ugly dresses. The color was pretty but that white slip thingy was awful..just a fashion disaster. They could of found shoes for ten bucks at payless and a decent belt for about the same or under that. But that slip thingy was just horrible. Maybe it was the plan...so just Jill could shine..her dress was nice enough but why not try to match the flowers with the bridesmaid outfits..i dont get that. Just looked like they tossed something together.

Anonymous said...

I am sorry but am I the only one who feels sorry for Jill. I even fell sorry for Jessa I could just imange what her wedding is going to be like. She will wear Jill dress and have all of her old stuff at her wedding and the same 1,000 people. and get married at the same church. and next season you will see all the same stuff about shopping and wedding planning for Jessa. This show needs to be cancelled.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if Jill and Jessa didn't pick Amy to be a bridesmaid is because she acts like a goof.
That woman is 28 years old and still acts like a silly, goofy 14 year old. Never mind about not being a fundamentalist Christian, she is just immature beyond belief. It doesn't wash with me that she wants to live at home because her parents have married and wants that experience of both parents in the house. A little of that goes a long way. At her age, she should want and need her own privacy and independence. The problem with Amy is that she isn't prepared to support herself at 28 yrs old and NEEDS to live at home.
I can imaging her acting silly in the bridal party as a result of her immaturity. The Duggars won't have that.

Judy said...

Jill's wedding planner friend appears to me to be the same person as her training midwife? Is that correct?

Anonymous said...

I get the feeling that the white slip piece was added to cover their knees. I could be wrong.

Anonymous said...

I thought the girls were going to wear peach, would have been nicer. I never saw a wedding where the entire family matched. Usually, the bridesmaids and groomsmen match in some way, but not in this case. It was odd. Grandma looked the best of everyone, they could learn a thing or two from her.

Anonymous said...

The bridesmaids dresses/colours were so tacky. The peach was nice and so was the Tiffany blue…but she should have stuck to just one as apposed to combining both of those colours and adding in brown with grey suits for men??? Nothing went well together and you can tell they threw this together in a couple of weeks time. Very tasteless. Not to mention the dresses themselves looked like awful baby doll dresses with slips or something showing underneath. I don't know why she had to dress the entire family (those not in the party) in the matching tacky colour too…just one massive disaster.

Anonymous said...

There is no chance in hell that Derick has never kissed a girl before. He went to a normal high school, regular university and traveled and lived abroad for 2 years. I can maybe believe that he is a virgin….but he has definitely kissed girls before. I wonder if he's told Jill about that, because they've said that this will be THEIR first kiss together, never that it'll be his first kiss. These girls are so naive. I wonder how many of the 19 kids will end up divorcing…because that's typically what you get when you marry the first guy you ever like, kiss, hug, hold hands with….etc etc. Awful.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know if the boys did the usual car-trashing nonsense at this wedding? The sardines that they put in Chad & Erin's were just unneccesary.

Anonymous said...

Yes I agree a silver shoe would been a good choice. The slips, eh, whatever but the belts & shoes, no bueno

nikki mintz said...

I pray that either Jinger or one of the other older single kids finally snap and go renegade and get away from their lunatic parents. TLC would have a new hit on their hands for sure.

nikki mintz said...

Maybe the local thrift shop was out of enough silver shoes to fit a wedding party? Remember, they don't shop at the mall.

nikki mintz said...

The local thrift shop may not have had a great supply of wedding shoes on hand for the wedding party. Remember the Duggars have never shopped retail for anything

I have never posted before, but I read this blog often, and appreciate all of the different perspectives on here. I came across this article and thought the readers here would find it interesting. It's from someone who grew up believing in courtship, but has since changed his thinking.

whenever I see JB and the boys doing any kind of construction, or repair work, I always imagine that their technique pretty bad, Kind of like whatever they are working on is held together with bubblebum and baling wire by the time they are done with it. I just don't envision them getting permits and certified plumbers/electricians, etc to do the work. The fact that they put Ben in a windowless, room with no AC or possibly heat, just shows they don't follow zoning rules, or rules or safety rules for inhabited buildings.

Anonymous said...

TLC released a clip of this episode and turns out Jill went barefoot to her wedding. She went barefoot so that she would be her regular height because she likes the height difference between her and Derick. How retarded!!! Has she heard of flats? Nobody said she had to wear heels…but barefoot?! These people are whack and barbaric.

puddin' said...

Ohh My Goodness...dont show a kneecap but when they are all married and birthin' babies every 9 months or sooner... they will show the births. Ugghhhh..........

Anonymous said...

The commercial showed they went to famous footwear for those ugly shoes. So much for "buy used, save the difference!"

got2bdrc said...

Regarding Jill walking down the aisle barefoot: don't the ultra-conservative fundamentalists sort of require women to remain barefoot and pregnant? Apart from the height difference between Jill and Derick, might this not be a statement from Jill about what she expects her future to be? While I agree that flats would be a much classier option, the Duggars certainly don't seem to consider "class" in any of their decisions, and it looks as if the newlywed Mr. and Mrs. Dillard will follow in their footsteps.

McKimberley said...

Did everyone know that Jill is engaged to "Derrick DILLARD"?

Just in case they failed to mention that in any of the past 10 episodes, she is ENGAGED TO DERRICK DILLARD.

Duggar Non-wannabe said...

When Jim Bob is "acting" out his lines, have you ever noticed that he shouts?

When the men came to lay the carpet he raised his voice to speak with them. I find him so weird in so many ways.

Also - he jokes about Jill & Derrick moving in with the family but I bet his controlling self would actually LOVE to have that power over them.

Anonymous said...

I just watched that. Seriously?? I guess when mama said they are backyard & barefoot kind of people she wasn't lying!! Ai yi yi

Anonymous said...

Has anybody noticed the the bottom of the girls faces don't match the tops, almost like they've had Botox, which they clearly haven't. I believe it comes from years of fake smiling.

McKimberley said...

A couple of observations:

-Michelle was wearing earrings?! Have we ever seen this before?

-Definitely product placement for that shoe store, the dead giveaway was Michelle's "script" about whenever they need shoes for the entire family, that's the store they go to

-Where is Josiah? Have they addressed where he is? I believe I read he is at Alert camp, so assume that means brainwashing any individuality/non-compliance out of him

-Jim Bob is so creepy joking about Jill and Derrick moving in with him. He jokes about it but you just know he would LOVE that.

-Poor Jana having to do all that alteration work

-Mackynzie is growing up into a cute and spunky little girl! Loved her comments and interviews in this episode!

I'm horrified & embarrassed that Anna & Josh made a baby mobile. Seriously? Why don't you just bring a package of Pampers to the wedding? Lol oh mylanta! However, I did enjoy what I thought to be a dig at Michelle. (When Anna talked about how she's enjoying the children God has given her & not living each day wishing she could be pregnant).

Anonymous said...

Anna, your statement regarding not needing pregnancy to feel validated might have been more believable had you not been crafting a mobile as a wedding gift at the time you made it.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone notice how tight Josh's pants where when they were making the mobile? He keeps covering his crotch and standing really awkward when him and Anna kissed.

Anonymous said...

I am just amazed that "Famous Footwear," was where they shopped for shoes. Nobody that worked there seemed to show them what would be considered the proper footwear for a wedding party & they certainly didn't know. I'm surprised that they were the sponsor of that segment.

Stephanie said...

I noticed that too and witb Ben also. Both young men seem very physical and I hope Derrick at age 25 has kissed a girl because if he hasn't how pathetic and I would be embarrassed for him.
both couples say "our first kiss) the men never say its their first kiss.

Also, is anyone else sick to death of all the Guevara from Josie to Jimbob saying someone is a "great guy" im so sick of great guy.

Dar said...

Where to start with this one. JimBob and the boys used this tradesman to conduct a class for them in carpet laying. This man probably had to take about three years out of his life to learn all the aspects of laying flooring. He said it should have taken about an hour and a half, but it took about five and a half because he had to use all the little boys and become an instructor. This man was an apprentice before he became a journeyman. I am sure JimBob didn't pay him for his instructional time. Again, the Duggars taking complete advantage of outsiders. He wouldn't allow any of his children to go to school to learn a trade but will leech off someone else. I don't know about anyone else, but I thought Jill took complete advantage of Jana. It was almost like Cinderella. They were all eating and talking and Jana was sewing. I guess Jill has seen her parents do that sort of thing all the time. Those dresses would have been far better without the belt and without the white rag-looking thing on the bottom. TLC had better come up with some better story lines for Josh and Anna. Does Anna not know how to read? I am sure they looked at their diet when The Trainer cam around last year. BORING. This show simply can't go on with each child getting married, having children and then filler with the minutia of their boring lives. Ministry??? not!!!

Stephanie said...

I think Michele is lying about no rules for shoes however, why wouldn't she just say that?
They never wear high heels. There is a reason strippers wear platforms, there sexy.
a nice taupe pump with a reasonable heel would have really dressed up those cheap dresses.
Anna's shoes looked the worse in the picture of course she stands a)l pigeon toed and after all the press she has done she doesn't even try to stand attractive

Anonymous said...

I'm, so sorry if this offends anyone but I think Anna is just plain crazy. A baby gift for a wedding gift & what's worse repeating over & over again to MacKenzie about how Jill & Derrick will soon be having kids, or I should say as soon as they are married. I wouldn't hold my breath to see how life turns out for MacKenzie down the road..

Ginger said...

WOW just WOW. For a Duggar, a Baby Gift is an appropriate Wedding Gift. There's nothing else left to say.

Cute shopping for shoes and NOT in a thrift store. It must have been like a whole new world for them!

Poor John David and what's his name. Of course there's no girls yet. They don't have the skills because Dad does all the thinking for them. If they try to think for themselves, Dad squashes those efforts. Dependence is encouraged. Sad.

Ben is not a Duggar. Derick is not a Duggar. That is all. But maybe they don't know that.

So, Anna doesn't sound like she's TOO eager to pop out more kids. Her three are a handful and she's probably glad for a breather. :)

Poor Jana, being volunTOLD to alter the dresses. Rescue Jana, free Jinger!

Next week: JB gets pulled over! Bahahahaha! :)

Anonymous said...

McKimberley, Mackenzie's comments were mostly about Jill & Derrick having babies, just as soon as they are; Married. I didn't find that cute or even appropriate from a 4yr old.

Anonymous said...

First of all, the shoes and the brown belts were horrendous!!! Secondly, made myself lol about Jim Bob... Or was it Derick(???) getting pulled over by a stripper cop for his bachelor party!?!?

Beth Anne Obrien said...

When I saw the preview, I literally made myself lol thinking, "wouldn't it be hysterical if Jim Bob got ' pulled over' by a stripper cop for his bachelor party?"

Willow said...

I'm sorry, but its just SO ridiculous that Jana had to alter the dresses when they can WELL afford to pay a seamtress. I can't take it anymore. I could create better and more realistic "Scripts" in my sleep. Please TLC/Duggars - try at least a little bit. You are SO lazy. Just because the Duggars (Jill and Jessa) have to remind themselves every 2 minutes what their boyfriends' names are, doesn't mean WE are that stupid!!!

hello said...

This whole episode was a train wreck. Such an obvious plug for the shoe store. I don't believe for one minute that this family still shops at thrift stores. They could have found some cute shoes instead of the ugly ones they picked out. Jill really went barefoot at her wedding because she likes the height difference between her and Derrick? Even wearing flip flops would have been better. I think they could have afforded to pay to have the dresses altered instead of having Jana do it. Who gives a handmade baby mobile as a wedding gift? Did Anna also give them a case of pregnancy tests too? I am sure Michelle has plenty of them left that she could pass along.

Anonymous said...

So sorry to see that Mac has already been fitted with an apron, courtesy of Michelle Duggar. I joked about that early on and I can't believe my eyes that actually came to be (being fitted with her apron at an early age).
Anna is a nut, sorry. If she is looking for MORE kids, she is plain nuts..Enjoy the ones you have already and give them a good, quality life with a real relationship with their parents. No reason they can't attend a real Christian school. You would have time to get things done and live a real normal life, even a Christian one!
Jana being "asked" to do all that sewing was just plain mean. Why shouldn't a professional seamstress do it? They have the money to pay one. This is the cheapest family I have ever seen, they are NOT in need.
Also, the shoes were inappropriate for a formal ceremony, even with a carnival theme. Their blatant obvious product placement and "commercials" within the episode for these businesses is shameful. I'm done with this family, not looking forward to seeing Jill's wedding, Jessa's wedding next spring and Jill's "home birth" next summer, I may be dead by then.
Roloffs: Well done..this is a real family who loves each other and I have a lot of respect for the challenges they have faced and for how their children love and are proud of their parents,, stature and all. All the best to Jeremy Roloff and his bride and to his brother and his impending marriage. I'll wait to see that one too.. which will be aired timely, I'm sure.
If TLC managed to air this wedding in 10 days, what's the hold up on the Duggars? Jim Bob's publicity train? Who's responsible for that?

Anonymous said...

Um, can't help but think that Anna is a jerk. Who gives a baby gift as a wedding gift? The Duggars! Sure, she isn't obsessing about more babies, is she? That's what they live for. I truly think someone is reading this and other Duggar commentary sites as they seem to "answer" the criticisms posted in a "matter of fact" way. I bet Anna is already "expecting" as she said that #4 wasn't in the too far future..she contradicted herself.
Ugly, ugly shoes. They are casual shoes not for a wedding. Also, the sales girl did try to show them a shiny, blinged dress shoe, which was appropriate, but they ignored her. Hated Michelle's advertisement for that shoe store, just classless of them, as usual.

Anonymous said...

Dar, I agree with you. I too have been saying that courtship, engagements & pregnancy, ad nauseam,is going too get very old, very quickly. There's a lot going on in the world & much of it not very pleasant. How long can people hide their heads in the Duggar world. It only consists of 3 things; Courting/engagement, weddings, pregnancy. I know where they can use many volunteers in my town to help people with real issues who don't have a TLC paychecks, so I'm signing off on the Duggars. I'd like to think, while I can, I will do more with my life. Truthfully what did it for me was the; "Baby Gift for a Wedding Gift segment. Disgusting. Does Anna even realize how many women miscarry their first pregnancy..as a nurse, I do. Anna herself had a miscarriage & yet she's sending a baby gift as a wedding gift. I think it's ridiculous. It could be so hurtful to give a gift like that. I've had enough!

I can just about guarantee that next weeks episode when JB gets pulled over by the police, that it is all a set-up for a "police escort," to an anniversary dinner for Michelle & JB's 30th wedding anniversary. Their anniversary cannot be left out just because they are busy getting ready for Jill's wedding & Jessa is in a courtship. They always make a big deal about their anniversary & I think the police escort will be to an anniversary dinner or perhaps a really cheap motel.

All I can say is, when is "The Little Couple" going to be back on?? Now THERE is a fun, intelligent, interesting, respectful, loving family!

I really hope this entire season isn't about wedding planning, but it's looking like it will be. Yawn.

McKimberley said...

Anonymous at 9/30/2014 11:34 PM, I agree those types of comments about Jill & Derrick having babies right away are not cute or fitting from a 4-year old. I was mainly thinking of her saying, so determinedly, that she was going to marry HERSELF (and Michael giggling at her), and then talking about how she loves salmon, pineapple, etc.

Typical little kid stuff! It's sad to think what the future might hold for her as far as no career but a litter of children.

Allison said...

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the shoes they chose. I thought they worked well. My girls wore simple black sandals for my wedding, and one of my bridesmaid even had a buckle on hers. Did I care? No. Not everyone is going to have the same style sense.

Now I do question Jill's logic on her going barefoot. I mean, yes, I appreciate the height difference. My husband got shoes with a thick sole to accommodate my heals (which I wanted) but I also changed into flats for the reception to make it easier for dancing. I'm not sure why Jill didn't just buy a pair of flats to wear. They didn't explain that and I think they should have asked...

Anonymous said...

I laughed to myself when Mackynzie said that she was looking forward to the first kiss because it would "be cool" and then added "I hope its cool!" Glad to see she has some personality!

Anonymous said...

When Jill asked Jana if she could do the alterations I wished that Jana would have said yes and Jessa could help too. Supposedly Jessa is a good seamstress and even if she wasn't asked she could out of the kindness of her heart volunteer to help Jana with the dresses but no, she was at the counter having a teaparty with the other girls.
The dresses didn't look as bad on TV as they looked in pictures. They might have looked nicer if Jana had help. Free Jana!

Anonymous said...

Sorry if someone already mentioned this..but did you hear Jessa about buying shoes at thrift stores and "making sure there's no fungus growing in there"?
Are you kidding me? She thought it was funny?

I used to work for a bank where the "dress code" was that we couldn't wear shoes that showed toes or wear anything sleeveless. That was in 1998 and when I retired in 2012 it had gotten a lot more lax. But looking back, I feel like I was like a Duggar!!

Judy said...

The mobile thing was weird in many ways. First of all, I HATE when people say it "Mobill" instead of MO-beel. Secondly, what on earth would the family do if Jill and Derrick had fertility problems? Just the pressure on them to conceive immediately after the wedding is crazy. I'm also tired of them suggesting that Jill being married would make such a difference in their lives. For one thing, Jill is living right there! She doesn't have a job and has months of pregnancy to go, so what is she doing but going over to the house every day, I'm sure, to take care of all the younger siblings. I doubt, except for the fact that she sleeps next to Derrick, not much has changed.

capslock said...

I am so sad for Jana-rella -- sitting there at the sewing machine while Jill and the others (even ME-Chelle) stands at the counter and stuffs their faces for "girl time."

Jill is just like Jim Bob - delegating to everyone else to do something she could and should do herself. At least help out for heaven's sake or pay someone locally.

Janarella says she was chosen because "I was the one that was more available." WHAT ON EARTH does any of the other girls have going on?!? They don't go anywhere or do anything!

Jill has to inconvenience everyone because she can't stand to be a virgin for more than 8 weeks of actual courtship. Just pathetic!!!

CannedSoup said...

I so agree that it was most unseemly of Jim Bob to take advantage of the carpet installers and expect free lessons. That he admittedly does this with other hard- working tradespeople makes it even more disturbing. It shows a lack of respect for those people and is a bad example for his children.

Anonymous said...

Noticed that Michelle commented on Hannie being so "lady-like" in her bridesmaid dress. I've seen references on this blog to Hannie being a bit of a tomboy, so I guess Michelle is trying to mold her.

I sincerely believe that Anna's children need interaction with other children besides their cousins when they visit. These kids can hardly speak,, even for their ages. The words that come out of their mouth are the words of the mother, who is their only outlet. Pay attention to Mac. She communicates only with Anna and Josh, when he's home.
Those younger Duggar kids need serious speech/language development therapy, YESTERDAY. You can hardly understand them and they don't make sense when they speak.
Two younger/middle boys were asked about shoe shopping during a TH segment. The blonde kid looked at the guy like he was from Mars and didn't understand the question... what's up with him. His brother responded like he was years behind his chronological age... so sad for all of them.

Wampascat said...

I don't understand choosing those dresses just because they were the right color. They needed too much work and didn't turn out very attractive with the alterations. Why do they even try on anything when they drape all that garb on it? So dumb. They should have just ordered a nice simple dress out of a bridal catalog in the proper color. They can be shipped in a matter of a few days. The Duggars just don't have a lick of sense!

Anonymous said...

I lost a lot of respect for Jill (not that I had much to begin with). You really ask your maid of honor to alter at least 10 dresses, and you know Jana can't say no. It's...for lack of a better word it's rude.
Can we just skip to the wedding, it's finally sinking in that it's getting really boring watching the prep. A summer special would have gone over much better. Come on TLC get it together, we are bored!

Coleen said...

I too wondered why Jill picked those bridesmaids' dresses and then had Jana to alter them. But maybe Jill wanted Jana to make her dresses and Jana declined, buying 'inappropriate' dresses was a way to force Jana to sew.

One more thought on the TOTALLY TACKY and INAPPROPRIATE baby mobile. That thing (in addition to being shabbily ugly) looked so unsafe I wouldn't allow it to be near a baby! All those pieces are perfect size for lodging in a baby's throat-not to mention the length of the cords. Where's the judgment? Where's the reasoning? Where's the common sense?

Anonymous said...

A few random thoughts:

I think something is going on with Josiah that no Duggar wants the public to know.

Although I usually like Anna, I think she showed some mental instability making a homemade baby mobile for Jill and Derick's wedding gift. That's just bonkers.

What does Jessa do all day? Really and truly, what does she do? Speaking of that, what do Jinger and Jana do? Well, except for altering dresses.

It's just mind-boggling that they think kneecaps are sensual and sexual, but hand sex isn't. Speaking of that, I think "hand sex" is just as arousing as kissing, so they aren't really being as "pure" as they think they are...

I get the feeling that, behind Jana's sweet "countenance," she can hold her own. I sense that she's not a doormat by any means but wisely holds her tongue while the cameras are rolling.

it is highly inappropriate to talk to a 4-year-old Mackenzie about her aunt and uncle having babies as soon as they're married. First of all, it just isn't a normal thing with which to constantly engage in conversation with a little girl, and second of all, it's ridiculous to always equate being a newly wed with immediately wanting/being pregnant... as if it's the only goal in the world and you're sinful if you don't comply with babies right off the bat.

I can't stand when Michelle says "modest" or "modesty" like she's so holy...

Why does Michelle think it's more godly to wear a 1989 hairdo? Does she think it's less worldly? Because it WAS worldly back in 1989. So... big ole puffed-out, in-your-face bangs and poodle perms are more "modest" and less worldly? Okay...

Jill interrupts everyone... Derick can't get a word out. She really needs to realize this fault because I've never witnessed her letting someone else get a full thought out before she proudly shares her own.

And if my name were Jinger with a "J", I would most certainly change it. Couldn't JimBob and Michelle think of another "J" name that actually is supposed to start with that letter... Julia? Jamie? Juliana? Janie? Jolie? ... not to mention, "Jinger" sounds a little bit worldly...

I suspect that the salespeople at Famous Footwear were today NOT to approach the Duggars concerning their wedding shoes.

I say this, because anytime I have gone into an FF shop, I have been inundated with salespeople trying to "help and select" what I am looking for.

Lesleigh said...

Just thinking............

The girls could have chosen a peach belt w/tiny flowers instead of that horribly awful belt that they chose.

Additionally, FF could have dyed satin ballet flats or strappy sandals to match the peach.

I still don't understand why Kleinfeld's, or Bridals by Lori, who BOTH have shows on TLC, were not involved in the selection of the wedding dress/bridesmaids dresses.

I mean, the first daughter of the "first family of fundies" gets married, and they are shopping at FF for shoes and some store that sells cheapy-looking dresses for the bridesmaids!

Any speculations? Could it have anything to do Randy in New York and Monte in Atlanta? Both are openly gay and maybe they think that their sexual orientation is "catching."!!!

Did you ever see the episode where Michelle, JB& all the kids, including Josh & Anna went to Kleinfelds to purchase Michelle's dress for her vow renewal (25th anniversary.)The little kids were wild, touching all the dresses that were hanging up around the salon, until they finally fell asleep & were spread all over the place. The staff were plainly annoyed to put it mildly & the other shoppers who were there for a once in a lifetime experience were rightly very very, upset. How would anyone like to go with their daughter or granddaughter to pick out her wedding dress & run into that wild group. It was awful & I don't think Kleinfelds expected them to bring every child, including babies with them. When Kate Goselin went to get a dress even she went alone. I believe, or at least they are saying, they went to the store in VA because Anna knew the owner. I think it was someone that Josh knew from his job with FRC. When I saw them go to;Famous Footwear, I thought the sales people would advise them on the proper foot wear, but they seem to have their minds made up about what they wanted. The Duggars get what the Duggars want & they don't really care about anyone else's opinion.

I just wanted to mention to Lesleigh, that Randy was working at Kleinfelds when Michelle went there for her vow renewal dress a few yrs. ago. It didn't seem to matter at all that he was on staff. I guess if you get a dress from Kleinfelds for free, it doesn't matter at all who is on staff. You can tuck you standards or convictions back in your pocketbook if you're getting a free dress!

Did anyone else notice that when Anna was serving the "healthy meal," MacKenzie was complaining she didn't like it? Then she said she did like salomon & tilapia. Of course she liked it, Anna was adding salt to her dinner which was already covered in Mackenzie's really favorite food: Ketchup! Anna read the label on the ketchup bottle..it's full of sodium! Not a good idea to teach a child they are eating healthy, when there is so much sodium in the food or I should say on it. Condiments have their place, but not on a child's plate while you tell them they are really eating healthy now.

Kleinfelds probably didn't want them back. They didn''t want the crowd to tear up their store. Plus I doubt they wanted to have to butcher one of their nice dresses to make it modest.

RE Anonymous 10/1 @12:07pm Believe me Michelle won't rest until she breaks "Hannie," of being a tomboy. She did it with Joy & she's bound that Hannie won't act like a tomboy. They were always saying that Hannie was so near all those boys I believe it was 5 in a row. She always had so much spunk & really gave Jackson a run for his money. What a shame. I had a daughter that was a tomboy & it didn't bother me a bit. She even complained to our school committee that too much money was spent on the boys athletics & not enough on the girls,& she was right. Also thought the boys always became class president, while he girls were the secretary & treasurer, the real work horses. She chose a women's' college because of those things & she turned out just fine & can really stand up for herself when needed. I can't imagine a girl with that spirit in a home like the Duggars.

When the Duggars were at Kleinfelds, YES, Randy was on staff there, but you didn't see "hide nor hair" of him, did you? TLC and Kleinfeld ( and probably Randy himself too) made for darned sure that he didn't run into them at all, did they?
I think that was a terrible thing to do to Randy who is a professional and knows his job better than almost anyone else there. Unless Randy, wanted to steer clear of that group. I wouldn't have blamed him, one bit.
I don't like the Duggars even more for this. I like Randy more now.

I agree with anonymous 10/2 @5:17am, regardless of whether or not both shows are on TLC, Kleinfelds probably had enough of the Duggars, after the time they came to get a dress for Michelle. At first, I was thinking they were probably just fed up with all the little kids, & howlers rolling around the floor of the store. I forgot how shocked the staff was when they also had to endure JB's suggestion, that one of their dresses not only be made "modest." but it also needed to have the gorgeous "puffy sleeves," that JB just loved. Plus every time Michelle went back to thee dressing room to try on a dress, JIM Bob asked if she wanted him to come with her. She actually said, "no daddy I think were all set." Sometimes when I write a quote like that I don't think I'm in Kansas anymore!

I've followed your blog for a while, and I view the duggars with 10% mild interest and 90% disgust/disbelief. I haven't watched all the shows because my husband hates it and won't allow it on when he is in the house lol. But, I do dvr them and watch when he isn't around. I remember back when they had 14 kids, and of all the weird and weirder things they have done, the mobile took the cake. I was sitting there not believing what I was watching. Besides the fact that it's incredibly weird to give someone who isn't pregnant a baby gift for their wedding, it looked like a couple of 3 yr olds made it. Which, I guess, is exactly what happened. It was extremely junky and tacky looking not to mention unsafe. Strangulation, anyone?

Re: Anonymous 10/02 @ 12/36pm I'm sure that Randy ,whom I personally just love decided to steer clear of the Duggars, himself. Why bring unnecessary aggravation on yourself. Beside even though we think he's a professional, that knows his job better than anyone else, he probably realized he wasn't needed as Jim Bob & Josh had it all under control. Michelle was getting a dress that JB & Josh liked whether she liked it or not. Do you remember how uninterested Michelle was in the whole dress shopping expedition? When asked if she liked certain dresses, she just shrugged her shoulders & made a weird face.I never got over the fact that she had all those daughter & yet JB & Josh had the say in the dress. The saleswomen looked directly at JB & when she asked are you saying yes to this dress? JB gave a very slight "yes" by raising his eyes & barely looking up, but you coulsd see it, if you looked closely. If it's on again, watch for JB to give the verdict. Then Josh will chime in with his opinion; "well I think we could say yes to this dress!"I would have kicked him if he was my husband. It was just another "trip" for TLC. Too bad they didn't offer a dress to a woman who is in the service or the bride to be of a serviceman all who are returning from overseas. I know Kleinfelds themselves often do things like that what about TLC?

I had to laugh at Ginger's remarks as I remember clearly when JB asked Michelle if she wanted him to come back to the dressing room with her, & she said "no Daddy, I think we're all set!" What a hoot. Look on the bright side, it could have been worse, JB could have accompanied them to look or the dress for, "Jilly Bear." I can just hear Jill saying "no Daddy I think were all set!" After all JB did make the remark, while they were doing the carpet, that Jill had gone to pick out her dress, & he hoped she picked out a nice one. What??

I hate to defend the Duggars about anything, really, but I must comment about the mobile. I think it was just meant to be a sentimental craft project for the kids, to incorporate the Nepal memorabilia, etc. I feel pretty confident they gave Jill and Derick a real gift as well. My only problem with that segment was the discussion with Kenzie about marriage and babies. Even though she is surrounded at all times with that subject matter, I still feel she is too young for such discussions. I think they should have just made it a mobile (like for their porch etc) and not a baby mobile. That was just dumb and I bet the producers thought that one up.

They need to come up with some new scenarios for Josh and Anna's family. I can't think of any though (oops!).

Anonymous said...

What I am finding a little frustrating is the obvious extreme editing. They replayed that same message of Anna saying something about wanting another child and then screaming "give me a baby!". Of course when they showed the full sentence it was "IT IS NOT LIKE I'M SAYING give me a baby!". It makes me wonder what other crazy editing is going on that we aren't aware of. This isn't the Duggar's fault, of course, it's TLC's, but it is making me irritated this season. How much is just chopped and changed and not even remotely accurate to how they act or what they said.

Missy said...

Yes Rudy Tecat, that's exactly what happened. The sewing machine was set up in the kitchen & everyone was around the counters enjoying tea & goodies, including Michelle, while Jana did the sewing. If ever there was a time for her to put her foot down & say; enough that was it, but of course that didn't happen. I have never seen the sewing machine set up in the kitchen, so I guess they thought they were doing Jana a favor by letting her sit there with them. When the girls made the "fire skirts" they worked at Anna's house & upstairs, doing the sewing. So I guess that was a treat for Jana.

Anonymous said...

According to Anna; for a Duggar a baby gift is an appropriate wedding gift.So you can make of that what you want.It sure seemed to me that the mobile along with all the baby talk was just about how Jill & Derick would soon have a baby...after they were married & it's never too soon to start a little Duggar girl like MacKenzie with those thoughts.

Anonymous said...

I think that mobile was much more about a baby than anything to do with Nepal. Yes they put a plane on it, but all the talk to the kids, was how they would just love it for their baby. They were not even married at the time. But as Anna said for a Duggar a baby gift is a perfect wedding gift. I thought Anna had lost her mind when she said that. All I can think of is the effect this will have on MacKenzie & any other girls Anna has.

During the Kleinfeld disaster I noticed right away that Michelle didn't have an opinion of her own. She wanted Jim Bob, her wooooonderful husband, to tell her if she liked this dress or that dress. I found that quite disturbing the first time around when it aired. The woman has no decision making skills other than to legislate scripture and restrictions as related to scripture. Not an adult IMO.
Also, in being worth a lot of money, there was absolutely NO REASON that they couldn't have paid for the dress themselves and YES, TLC could have donated the value of Michelle's choice to a needy bride, in which there are many. The Duggars were there only because of excess. Without TLC, I doubt a renewal ceremony would have been done and they would still be in that small 3 bdrm house trying to build the TTH.

Anonymous said...

I think the reason Michelle has no decision making skills is because Jim Bob has been making all the decisions for her ever since she was 17 yrs. old. I remember her saying, at one time early in her marriage with 4 or 5 little ones, she thought they would be getting a washing machine because she needed one badly. JB said "absolutely not, that's seed money, for the business it's not for a washing machine." Believe me, if I had little ones & no decent washer there would be a huge argument. It's not like she was saying she wanted a mink coat or diamond earrings, it was a necessity. He really rules the roost. I can't imagine having really loving feeling for a man that told me what to do, when to do it, how to do it. I think he's acted more like a father than a husband when it comes to what happens under that roof. He does that with the kids too. Whenever there is a challenge or a game of some sort, JB is willing to push a kid out of the way to win a stupid game. What kind of dad does that? I don't mean constantly letting a child always win, as that's not a good lesson either, but he carries it way too far. He can't stand it if one of those boys wins at a game. He's especially tough on Josiah & Jason, I think. I don't think JD & Joseph really care about who wins, so they just don't bother. It's way more than just healthy competition with JB.

The whole wedding renewal and shopping at Kleinfelds was such a train wreck. There was no reason for all the kids to be there running around like wild animals. I don't blame the owner for not inviting Jill to the store to pick out a dress and film it. The last time they were there they just had to talk about modesty and how the dress would need to be altered. Michelle should have just taken a white sheet and cut holes for her head and arms. And if I remember correctly, Michelle wouldn't even let the lady working there help her put on the dresses because of her modesty philosophy. And it was creepy when Jimboob asked Michelle if she wanted him to come and help and she said-no Daddy, I think I'm ok. I find it odd that Jimboob and Michelle call each other Mama and Daddy a lot.

When the Duggar ladies went to the DC Bridal shop, one of them said that Anna knew someone connected with the shop, owner or employee, I forget. I noticed the males were missing on this trip.

I don't think any of the Duggars have many outside friends or family that they socialize with.

Children need to be with (a variety) of other children to grow and mature, to thrive, to socialize, play, etc.

I am not against home schooling but when children are elementary school age, they do need to be with other children, not just family.

As for speech therapy, what has been found in the orphanages in Eastern Europe, due to lack of stimulation, (being talked to, read to, exposed to many different people, and conversatons), words, sentences, essentially language, and being able to express yourself properly has a "window" that closes about age six or seven. After that it is difficult to teach and change speech, and children in a closed environment will have problems expressing themselves.

Anonymous said...

I agree that children need exposure to other children and interact in a social setting with them too, It is for all areas of development. Most of those younger Duggar kids can't speak properly nor can they put a decent sentence together.
Did anyone notice Jim Bob's poor use of the English language when cleaning out that old "cat" house he bought? He said he had "an ever funner project" for them.
Please go back to school, JB.

Anonymous said...

Dear God help me if Jill says "I'm engaged to Derick Dillard aaaand…" one more time. I'm really starting to despise Jill. She is such a fake brat and she's so full of herself for someone who is supposed to be "modest."
The wedding colours were "teal," peach and grey, but then they're adding "natural" into the mix. Makes absolutely no sense. They looked like a circus on the wedding day.
I'm really beginning to notice how a lot of the younger girls & Michael talk the same way and really need speech therapy. I guess that's what you get when you don't properly educate or socialize your kids.
It's fine that Jill didn't want to wear heels…but going barefoot?! How barbaric and disgusting is that. All of the shoes the girls bought were extremely casual and I can't believe they'd even consider wearing those beach sandals to a wedding.
I'm wondering when the house Jill and Derick are currently living in gets sold while Jill has a newborn or is 9 months pregnant how she will manage finding a new home and moving? These people don't think. Jim Bob's plan is to have them move in with him-that wasn't a joke. He recognizes that Derick has a real job and went to a real school and isn't a fundie like they are, and he worries that he will convert Jill to pants or TV, so he wants them under his roof.
How rude of JB to get his 5 young boys "helping" the paid worker. That man knows what he's doing and JB can't mooch off someone who has an education to teach his uneducated kids how to do a job. He should send his kids to school instead.
John David is a fat bastard. He literally comes off as slow, or autistic. He's overweight and looks like he's nearing 40 not 25. He's a complete ass hole and I don't see any girls ever being interested in that. I'm wondering when he's 40 and still unmarried if that means he will still be living at home with his texts and dates monitored by mom and dad while praying for the right one-unkissed and obese.
I was enraged watching Anna + fam make a baby gift for Jill's wedding. I don't know if this was set up for views, but that was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen. What if Jill and Derick had fertility problems and couldn't conceive? How horrible would they feel with all this pressure on them to be fruitful and multiply.
I love Mackynzie…what a spunky little girl. It's sad because I know that the spunk is going to be kicked out of her before she turns 10 and she's going to have to be this proper, modest little girl like the rest of the Duggar ladies. Jana, Jessa, Jinger, Joy and Johannah were all full of personality until Michelle converted them to be modest fake young ladies-now they all have the same blah personality.
Jana looked like Cinderella altering the dresses while the other girls had snacks and tea. I'm really starting to believe that they're trying to keep Jana home and single for as long as they can so she can do all of the dirty work and raise the younger kids. Jana is beautiful, and if Jill has already found someone, I imagine there have been many guys asking to court Jana, but JB and Michelle turn them all down to keep Jana as their maid. Jana seemed pissed that she was the only one asked to do the sewing, especially since a number of the girls are equally as good at it. The girls except Jana are all lazy & I think she's really starting to get pissed with all of this bullshit, & I don't blame her. The top part of the dresses actually didn't look bad, but that slip added was a mess. The original length of the dress was almost to the knee and very modest…I don't know why they had to add that sheet- it looked like they had a slip falling.

Jill is definitely the domineering sister. Who asks their sister to alter numerous dresses for their wedding. I am sure Jimboob can afford to hire a seamstress or they could have foumd a "friend" to do it. Jana didn't seem too thrilled when Jill asked her to be her maid of honor. Jana acts"sweet"but she looks so unhappy. I don't think Jimboob will be finding her a husband anytime soon. There are a lot of kids left that she needs to train and take care of. Michelle certainly doesn't seem to think she should be raising her own blessings. She is too busy being Jimboob's buddy and obsessing over the fact that she would like to be expecting but is not. I would love to see Jana stand up to her parents and tell them that she is sick and tired of being their unpaid nanny and maid.

There is absolutely NO reason why Anna needs to go to a farmers' market. With those kids, that huge stroller, why would she want to go out unnecessarily? Hasn't she EVER walked passed the fresh produce department at her supermarket? Guess what, Anna, they have FRESH fruits and vegetables there too! Get out in the world, lady and leave the kids at home with Josh when you go grocery shopping as those kids take up all the room in the cart that you need for actual groceries! If those kids were in preschool/mothers day out programs at a Christian church, she would have time to shop in peace and maybe run across the produce department and check some recipes on the internet.

I should have saved this all for one post, my apologizes.

I actually do not think the shoes they picked were that terrible, once I finally watched the episode. After reading on here, I was expecting horribly ugly things. The colors are maybe not the best for a wedding, but they were still better than Old Navy flip flops. Which, don't get me wrong, I wore to my wedding, but only once the ceremony and pictures were done and I couldn't stand to be in them any longer during the reception.

I stopped watching the show as a personal boycott against lying evangelists like the Duggars, but I happened to see a blip advertising segment between Joy and Jana.
The short ad showed Joy and jana expressing how they didn't like the idea of marriage. Joy said it's so much work. Jana had silent agreement. Now if loud-mouth-Jill were there she'd have had something to say to those 2.

I may just have to watch to see how they all implode. Sooner or later lies will come back to be the nails in their coffins. Life works that way it seems.

My favorite Duggarite is Jana. Poor thing had to be a mother to so many children.
2nd fave is Jinger.
3rd Joy, whom I think is a trainwreck waiting to happen as her inner personality has been squashed by what J'ichelle thinks it should be. That bird is caged and lost her song voice.

4th is Jennifer. Poor child got a tiny bit of time with mom (and by mom I mean J'ichelle) until Jordyn came along....then she was cast aside, but then Josie the golden child came along and took J'ichelle away for a year so poor Jennifer REALLY was without a mother. Unless you count the sister-mom's so hey, it could always be worse I guess. But the poor thing has a personality that reminds me of an Eastern Block orphan with the look of abandonment written all over her.
The other kids are annoying programmed bots for JBob, J'ichelle and the Gothard movement. No real character of their own, just stepford wives in training and male Gothard bots.

bleh. I hope TLC cancels this crapfest this year.

Yes I noticed that he is shouting and making a speech. I think its a combination of him being full of himself and liking to hear his own big mouth and also the kids dont listen to him that well and he has to be loud.

The carpet installers didn't seem happy with all the extra time they spent and I doubt Jimbob paid them for their time or expertise. He wants everything free even if it is from hardworking people who have less money than they have. Remember when they were traveling and he hounded a fast food restaurant for a discount? Those employees were working on their feet for minimum wage and he has the nerve to ask for free food? He should be ashamed.

I just read my comment from above. I apologize for my auto-correct on my phone when I type my comments. And it wasn't People magazine it is the trashy US Weekly tabloid. We know all of the article is true, however, the viewers that don't dig deep may believe US Weekly is exaggerating the NIKE story tor example. The Today show never mentioned NIKE or anything that we bloggers find bizarre.

'RE John and Joseph.
I noticed Joseph being a smart mouth when the Duggar for a day (Dan the tv reporter) was mowing the grass and Joseph was trying to be funny and make fun that Dan did not know how to drive the lawn mower. He said something smart to him like "it helps when you actually turn the lawn mower ON" he laughed when it stalled etc. But recently Joseph was a jerk to Ben in the kitchen and Ben and Jessa actually looked ANGRY.

John and Joseph while chopping wood with Ben trying to act like big, scary, tough guy, intimidating big brothers is laughable. John the never been kissed virgin grown man who lives with his mother and shares a room with 7 little brothers is hardly an intimidating figure.

RE JILL browsing around everyone
everyone here has always said the Jill is the one to spout the Duggar faith back at us viewers and that is the truth. She is really full of herself because she is fulfilling the baby machine mission before her sisters. I think Jill maybe thinks she was the ugly duckling of the sisters and maybe she thinks "haha look who got married first"
Maybe she is mama and daddy's favorite right now.

Jim Bob pretty much told Jill in Nepal that Derrick was like Jimbob "I wasn't thd best looking guy but mama saw my heart". He told Jill to her face thag Derrick wasn't a good looking guy. I think Jill is pretty, but has she been labeled the least attractive of the four girls and Jimbob thought Derrick was good looking enough for Jill? Seriously? Why didn't Jimbob steer Jana to Derrick? What's the difference?

If a man said ON CAMERA that my son was NOT good-loaning I believe I would never forgive
that comment. D erricks mom was probably disappointed but since hes in love she wont say anything.
Ben is good-looking but that is all thats going for him and I am disappointed that his parents have encouraged this move and marriage. Ben is boyfriend material for a girl and he is marriage material when he grows up. Hes too young to get married and he will be like Josh at Jimbob at TLc mercy.

Maybe the carpet installer was one of Jim Bob's tenants in his commercial buildings and sort of "had" to comply to the landlord, Jim Bob. Otherwise, I don't know why any tradesman would do such a thing and waste the time of his crew and his own time too? Time is money for them and I'm sure they had other appointments that day. Just doesn't add up, like a lot of stuff there lately.

RE Anonymous 10/06@:43am Yes they did purchase at least one extra dress. That's what Jana said she would need in order to make over the dresses they were purchasing. (I'll bet they didn't pay for them.) Jana knew there was nothing she could do unless she had more fabric. I don't understand if that was the case why didn't they just order more than one extra dress so the fabric that was hanging down, like a slip was at the least the same color as the dress?

RE John and Joseph.

I agree with many of the comments on here, that these two somehow have an inflated sense of self importance and arrogance about them, versus being the "humble" people that JimBob and Michelle claim their children to be. I guess when you are told all your life that your family is living the holiest life possible and no one else meets that standard, then the self-righteousness can't help but bubble up.

But, good grief, their actions and behaviors, as well as their expanding waistlines, are nothing to brag about and certainly not likely attractive to potential wives. The insular nature of this family may well result in these adult male offspring becoming like the Arndt adult male children. I won't go into detail here, since this is a Duggar blog, but suffice to say that there are "boys" in their 20's and 30's still living at home, waiting for their magical fundie bride to fall from heaven. Most work for their daddy's court reporting business, though at least that gets them out of their house at times and requires them to interact with "non-alike" people.

How are JimBob and Michelle going to justify a dozen plus adult children still living at home and going on kiddie outings 5 years from now???

Since we were treated to lingering shots of the front of the dress shop with the name prominently displayed, it's safe to say the Duggars did not pay for the dresses that they "bought." They said they got an extra dress for Jana to cut up for sleeves and ruffles. The "slip" look was on Jill's pinterest and was something she planned on doing. For me what happened was Jill combined three or four pinterest looks that she pinned into one dress look and it was too much. She could have done a couple of them and it would have looked much nicer.

I happened to be watching another bridal gown program, I Found The Gown last night that I recorded recently. Where did the owners of Vows bridal shop go to purchase a whole bunch of gowns? To a beautiful, full service store in Little Rock, Arkansas! Of all places. I was quite sure that the likes of Jill would have found a large selection of up to date (pre-modified) styles of wedding dresses there. It was a beautiful place, one that I would go to myself. That wouldn't have created a need to travel all the way to DC to shop for a gown in which seemed small, cramped and not as large of a selection, IMO.
How staged can you get? The owner was NOT a "friend" of Anna's, but her husband is a local likeminded politician in DC and is acquainted with Josh. So, there you have it, he got free advertising for his wife's business...I can't stand these people any more for they are blatantly cashing in and it's not flattering, classy or Godly of them to do so.

Thank you, Dar, for mentioning what came to my mind as well — Jana as Cinderella. She played the part but I saw the weariness in her eyes when asked, the weight of the job before her and with so little time.

What killed me is she didn't appear to have ANY help at all - and some of those other girls could have pitched in. Ginger (I think?) said she knows how to sew, and a couple of the other older girls do as well, but said "Jana's the BEST at it!" Sounds like an excuse to get out of work.

When Anna found out Jana did all the alterations for herself she said she wished she could have helped or something to that effect. She sounded like she felt bad that Jana had to do all the work. And Jana said, too, that the others could have helped. Jana may be the best seamstress but there's always ironing and pinning to be done. I wonder if this others first, yourself last policy means you aren't allowed to ask for help. For as much work as those dresses needed I don't see why they didn't get a pattern and material and make them from scratch. They looked pretty simple and I don't think making a simple dress from scratch is more difficult than taking apart a ready made one to put on sleeves and a higher neckline. That looked like a lot of work.

Since this is a scripted show and bordering on a "sitcom" I find it hard to believe that Anna didn't know that Jana was doing all of the sewing/pinning/ironing and tie making for Princess Jill. They rarely speak "real words" anymore and merely memorize a script. I believe Anna's comments were scripted too. We are seeing the little kids feed each other their lines when "interviewed" in those TH segments, TLC is getting sloppy with their façade.
