Change, Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 9:00 PM Smile and Say, Duggars!

The family returns to Joplin, MO for a Mother's Day Fundraiser for the victims of the tornado in 2011. And when they return home, it's picture day for the Duggars! But will their photographer be able to get all of them smiling in the same direction?

We've seen the pictures, right? Outside the old, broken-down house?

Is this to update their website and webpages,or is it a new pic for them to pass out to strangers?

How many episodes have they filmed of the camera man taking pictures of them???

It's probably the younger ones gawking around, poking at each other and when being told they need to behave, get the solemn, intense look they have when they are doing a performance, plus with all the delay, it runs into nap time for those who need it.

Yes, Alberta, I hate how the pics interfere with the kids nap time. I'll never forget the episode where they make the kids get up at 4am to do a today show episode where they basically just stand there while their parents talk. Why can't they just interview Michelle and Jim Bob???

The kids are watching a kid-friendly movie with volume down while they are taping the today show. This keeps them at bay.

Seems like they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now. How exciting can a show be that just shows someone taking a picture of a group of people? I mean, come on, TLC. Either give them something fun to do or forget it!

They really seem to be jumping the shark, again, and again! If they want to see people who still watch it (I think they have lost a lot of viewers, if I do watch it, half the time I'm doing something else at the same time, or falling asleep), they need to have the older kids get out on there own or live together in a house or an apt together, go to college, get jobs, join the Peace Corps, volenteer at a Womwns shelter, etc. I would be interested in seeing these trapped adults actually become adults, Jim Bob and Michelle step up and actually be parents, Josh grow up, Grandma actually stand up for herself and not Esentially be there unpaid help!

I'd like to see a show where a couple of teachers and school psychologists go to the house to evaluate the children and see what grade level they are really at. No sugar coating either, they need to show the honest truth. It would be sort of the equivalent of when the etiquette expert showed up at Honey BooBoo's house and left just shaking her head at the hopelessness of it all.

The only thing with that would be it may be degrading to the kids, think about it would you want to go on national television and have someone tell you that you aren't smart enough to be where you should be. The kids don't have control over the situation, the parents however should be taking full responsibility and get some help for those kids.

Frown and say MIGRAINE!

The episode did prove that Josie can't really talk unless she's coached. They really should have edited out that TH; it would have kept the illusion that Josie is doing things beyond her actual capabilities.

Poor Anna; that photoshoot was at the height of the pregnancy speculation and now I remember why I was convinced she was pregnant. Yikes!

mom in texas said...

I agree Nancy.Having Josie mic'd and sitting for segments does nothing for Michelle's "she is perfectly fine" theory. I also now see even more clearly as to why so many of us thought Anna was pregnant. The poor girl is carrying all her weight in her abdomen.
Something that bothered me was the Mother's Day dinner in Joplin. Jim Bob (I think) made mention to the fact that people paid extra to have dinner with the Duggars.I wonder if these people knew that meant watching the Duggars eat up on a stage while looking down on them. I was sure when Jill and Michelle made mention to this fact they were going to say that they decided to step down and mingle with the crowd.Wrong. Some times they have such a sense of entitlement.I was also surprised to hear Jim Bob say the live on 20 acres.I knew they had a nice piece of land but that is much more than I thought.

Patrice said...

That was insane. Why would people pay extra to eat with the Duggars? And why were they perched up on a stage? So their royal subjects could gaze adoringly at them?
Modern day hero worship is crazy. A hillbilly family comes out of the woods just because they've procreated like rabbits and suddenly they are celebrities who grace their presence upon us? Would these same people "pay extra" to eat with the real heroes of the country- soldiers, firefighters, police officers, etc.? I just don't think Jim Boob's ego needs to be inflated any further than it already is.

Jim Bob had mentioned having the 20 acres before, saying that if the children chose to build on the land, they would have ample room.

I really hope the money people paid "extra" to eat with the Duggars was all going to Joplin-did they say anything like that?, I don't recall. So tired of Duggar time-they had to put a blurb on the screen again about that. Do you think if this group wasn't homeschooled, they would be better about time? Kids learn to be on time when they have class, and when they're older, they learn the responsibility of knowing they have to be somewhere right when that bell rings, or there are in fact consequences. I mean, not that long ago, the Duggars were loading up the bus (having already supposed to have left), and Jana was still cooking lunch on the stove. (not saying homeschoolers have a tendency toward a lack of time management)

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought Anna looked pregnant in the shoot-she honestly did. For being such a pro, I don't understand why Scott started shooting so late in the day-oh, I'm sure it was Duggar time, again, that made him work into the following day. Nice to see Jim the soundman has fans-I like Jim (he puts up with the Duggars, and isn't afraid to "joke" about it.)

Jill has been learning Spanish for two years, and was embarrassed to speak it with their friends, and then wasn't sure what was said to her? Wow...must be learning off CollegePlus.

Did anyone else notice Michelle's butterfly pendant this episode? Wasn't a butterfly used as a symbol for Jubilee at her funeral? I wonder if she wears it in remembrance.

Nancy said...

Tulip, I too LOL'ed at Jill's "proficiency" in Spanish. Good ole College Minus strikes again!

Just a bit of trivia: the tee shirt the husband was wearing that said "TITANIC 2012" on the back (one of the boys in the ATV also wore one) were sold at the so-called "conference in Branson" that Jill mentioned. It was actually an event held by Doug Phillips of Vision Forum - Gothard for rich people. Doug enjoys recreating historic events with his fundie slant, complete with PAYING guests in costume. No wonder he wouldn't allow it to be filmed. The people who paid would be pissed that the rest of us saw it for free. Both he and Gothard can preach it, but are too gutless to put it out there for real criticism.

I wondered as well about the 'forget to eat' comment. Why not have a meal at a certain time before leaving,or tell the kids they can have a snack on the bus? It isn't that hard to arrange a schedule beforehand and stick to it.JMO.

This was like... The "jill" episode. Everytime I looked up; Jill was on the screen.

"This was like... The "jill" episode. Everytime I looked up; Jill was on the screen."
That is because Jill has drunk the most Gothard-laced Kool-Aid and has the standard lines down-pat. Most likely no more Jinger, since she dared to say that she would like to move to the city. Jessa also apparently had some sort of transgression and will not be seen much. Can't have any of the chillins speaking their own mind here! If they do it is straight to the prayer closet and off TV. Jill is the most faithful to her parents' wacky beliefs and spouts off about them every chance she gets.

Whats the the Israeli flag iphone holder?

Nancy said...

The family became enamored with Israel once they found out TLC was going to finance a trip.Jinger sported the Cross of David on shows taped 6 months before the trip.

Their politics dictate a pro-Israel stance, but there is also an Old Testament segment of extremist fundies. The Duggars, following Leviticus as interpreted by Gothard, would fit into this mold. Turkey bacon, anyone?

I wonder if they ever found out that when they ate bangers and mash in England that the bangers are pork sausage. If they found out, how did they react when God didn't strike them dead....oh wait, in their minds there was Jubilee, the altar sacrifice for the sin of Pork. NOT!

For them, it's all about guilt. The backdrop of Israel is the perfect foil for their guilt trips and faux martyrdom.

I think Jill is seen so much because she truly likes the camera time and LOVES to talk. The same held true for Joshie and for awhile Josiah (but Josiah seems to have taken a backseat). I do appreciate the fact that Jim Bob & Michelle respect their kids somewhat by not forcing too much camera time (like John David, Joseph, and Jana who prefer to stay out of the limelight).
*On a side note, I still think it's mean that the kids have to get up before the crack of dawn to just sit there for Today Show interviews! I don't care if they are "watching a movie on silent."*

tulip said...

Yes, I've definitely been seeing it everywhere as well. I think it was a Star of David flag hanging on the wall in their prep kitchen? Also, the Star necklaces, and in this episode Grandma Duggar takes a pic with an iphone (hers?) that has a Star of David cover. Remember the Menorah on Josh & Anna's bookcase? Anna was also wearing the pendant, seen on several different occasions. Nod to Old Testament, Israel, etc.?-either way, I agree that they really seem to be promoting it in a big way (although we never hear them make any comments about it on camera-hmmm...)

What school does the Hartono siblings go to? Two extra pair of hands for Michelle with the kids looks to me. Why do they get to go to school and the Duggar kids don't seem interested? If they were as close friends and Michelle said. If I had a best Christian friend in college I would look into joining them.

James played 5 proper notes on a scale and stopped. And Michelle, the mute that goes in the end to muffle, isn't to make it quiet, its a technique used for Jazz. You don't allow your kids to play jazz so you don't need the mute. Enjoy listening to James play with the trumpet. It would help if he had proper lessons or even attended middle school and took a band class. Why doesn't he go outside? I would Never let that racket in my home. Sometimes Michelle its ok to tell your kids no.

If TLC is going to keep giving us episodes of picture taking and cars being driven from one lot to another, then it won't be long before it's ratings are choked out by honey boo boo, or another sister wives type show. The only thing that may keep the Duggars relevant now will be a courting or a pregnancy.

If we get lucky, Jinger will run off to the city and maybe we'll get a Jinger in the city show. Even the Amish have rumspringa!

I do not understand the Duggars brand of Christianity that they subscribe to. Why would they not humble themselves to have their tables moved down off the stage and placed among everyone else? I honestly thought that scene was really strange.

I know the Hartono sister goes to Bob Jones U. Not sure about the brother, but some remarks made it sound like he wasn't quite as far away and had easier access to visit the Duggars more often. Maybe Oral Roberts?

His facebook lists an Indonesian university, so he obviously transferred, likely after meeting the Duggars and getting a connections in the states. Jennifer is younger, so I think she was able to start at BJU; IIRC, she was 17-ish when they went on the SE Asian "mission" trip, then came to the states to meet the whole Duggar family. She might have been interviewing for BJU as well; not sure if they still do that for undergrads.

They said that some people paid extra to 'dine with the Duggars',so I guess that was their way of separating them from the rest of the crowd. It didn't sound like they knew they were going to be sitting up high,though.jmo.
