Michelle's Hair or Is It Hairpiece?

Let's hope it's a hairpiece. More of the TLC-created Duggar brand.

Previous commenters have called it 'roadkill tail' - hard to imagine anyone WANTING this look.

Memo to the Duggars: the 'bad perm' look went out in the 1980's - turn the page!

P.S. - We KNOW it's not just hairspray that gets alot of usage with the Duggars. There's some SERIOUS dyeing going on in Duggarville, too. Gotta cover up those greys to try to hold onto that young, fecund appearance. Wonder if they buy the hair dye and hair pieces 'used and save the difference'?

If it's all about their joyful countenance, why even bother with ANY hair product? Seems vain and prideful by their own platitudes.

Hairpiece - and not an attractive one. No offense.

I say it's fake. It's not the same color or texture as the rest of her hair, which looks damaged from excessive perming and coloring. I guess none of them want to let the gray hair show. Even Grandma Duggar keeps her hair colored. The spiral perm went out of fashion many years ago, but fashion means nothing if "Daddy" likes long, curly hair. Yuck.

I really believe that's her real hair. I say this because a) her hair has always been wonky and b) there are times that her "front" hair looks even curlier than that. In this picture it's more relaxed than, say, when she's on the Today show. I could be wrong. I just think a hair piece would bring some stability to her hairstyle, yet it looks different and crazy every time I see it. I think we can all agree her hair is an absolute hot mess.

Hairpiece! A few seasons ago, it started looking like Michelle was getting more "hair". At first I thought she just got a curlier perm or something, but the sides of the hair were what always stuck out to me (excuse the pun!) There were times where it actually looked like she had those fake ponytail hairpieces clipped to the sides of her head. And, I agree that certain parts of her hair look very different in texture & color (not just a bad DIY dye job.)

I think it is her own. The sides and top have more crunchy product making it look shinier and darker. The back is curly but less stuck with product.

Anyone else remember MIchelle's Hillybilly Mullet on the first few seasons, with an odd pouf atop her head, then those weird short curly things hanging in front of her ears and THEN the long, straggly, 80's frizz in the back? Matched up with the Little House on the Prairie dresses on on the womenfolk. Yep, those Duggars sure are spiffy.

If it's a hairpiece,I think it looks better than the rest of her hair.At least in better shape.I think she would look better if it were cut shorter, and conditioned well..maybe some hot oil,and styled really nicely.
IDK about coloring,it's hard to say since some don't ever get much gray.jmo.

Hairpiece, I hope as well. Maybe JimBob should spend some money on his wife's hair style and restoring health back to it. I agree that there is hair dye being used in Duggarville. It does seem prideful and vain IMHO.

Given that my hair is similiar to hers, I would say it's real because mine is. When I pull it back, it looks like I've got a faux ponytal. Mine is natural both curls and the different colours.

Well, I can't put Michelle or Grandma Duggar down for dying their hair. I'm 44 yo and I am not ready to embrace the grays yet. Nothing wrong with wanting to feel and look more youthful! Michelle has good skin, and she does look youthful. I'm told all of the time I look to be mid to late 30's.
I would love to give Michelle a hair make over. Banish the crunchy 80's curls and flat iron her into a nice bouncy shoulder length hair cut :) I think she will soon find that the long 80's hair will age her. I think Grandma Duggar looks very pretty and youthful.

Nothing wrong with trying to appear younger....I plan to dye my hair too, when I get grays. However, Michelle probably wants to look extra youthful to her audience simply because youth = fertility. She's trying to fool herself and everyone else into thinking that she has the uterus of a 30 year old. And I vote it to be her real hair.

Crunchy perm. I think it's all her.

Hairpiece. Maybe the woman next to her is saying: "Get rid of the hairpiece, the dried out perm and the escaped forest animal that hangs down your back. Cut your hair like mine: short, smooth and easy to style". And that's why Michelle has a look of shock and surprise on her face. No way that woman is in God's good graces with short straight hair.

For the last few years, I have been trying to figure out why she only does the front part of her hair, and why it is cut shorter than the hair going down her back. It is a throwback to the Hillbilly Mullett. I do think there is some kind of hairpiece. THere is a chance that she is balding on top (as some women do after numerous births or when they have a thyroid issue).

I think it's her natural hair with tons of colouring done. Although it's true that some people never get grey hair (I'm still waiting for my first at 52 years old - I'm dark blonde)Dark hair shows grey faster and I'm pretty sure by now that she has a good crop LOL

I vote hairpiece.

I am 100% certain this is all her hair. Go back and look at the photos and videos of when the Duggars first started showing up on TV. Michelle had bangs from ear to ear, literally. And we're not talking wispy thin 90210-style bangs, we're talking serious 80s mall-style bangs that probably went back a good 3 or 4 inches from her face and required a curling iron and hairspray to create daily, perm or not. After they started the TLC series, Michelle started growing a lot of those bangs out. She still doesn't really cut her hair, so all that extra stuff you now see around her face is those 80s bangs that she's trying to grow out. I've noticed that section getting longer every season. I'm sure that if she didn't perm her hair and work to make it poofy like the girls sometimes do, it wouldn't look so strange.

I think it's a hairpiece on top where she's using the clippies. I believe her hair started thinning in her forties as it does for some women.

Partial hairpiece... Explains the mullet... What I dont understand is why on earth the girls have to have their hair the way "daddy likes". I dont recall my dad ever even caring what my hair looked like. In fact he was so out of touch he took me for a hair cut to do my mom a favor and ended up having my rear end length hair cut to my shoulders! Mom was not happy!! Hubby doesn't give a second thought to my girls hair either. It's odd that 20 something girls care what "daddy" wants them to do with hair?!?!?! I think Michelle is just trying to hold on to her youth. A lot of women are guilty of that. At least she isn't out having excessive plastic surgery. Someone should tell her though dye is fine, perms are out, mullet is way out. She needs to cut the back part of her hair and let it regrow. it's so damaged it looks really bad. Dye on top of perming is like hair death. Way to much chemical treatment.

It's a hairpiece.

I've often suspected that the Duggars are not as involved in the fundamentalist life style as they once were. I think she has a normal hairstyle in real life, but keeps that hairpiece ( or someone makes her) for the show.

Just waiting for the story to be told ;)

I realize I'm a month late in the game and probably no one will read my comment -

but .... that picture may be the silliest photo of any reality TV person EVER.

She looks silly beyond words and that photo should be used in one of those contests where the best caption wins a prize!
